A Novel Approach - Visible Thinking

Today, Mr. Hong was extremely excited to get started on the picture books with you for stage 2 of the Novel Approach. We reviewed expectations, the learning process, learning intentions, the structure of the book clubs, and then you started reading your books while working on your visible thinking (sticky notes). I look forward to seeing you use everything you have learned this year to create your powerful response at the end of your book club!

1.) MATH:

Possible math assessment on Area (triangles, parallelograms, rectangles, squares, and irregular shapes). Mr. Redican will update this for you.
Area games

2.) BEST BUDDIES:

Return your forms if you haven't already done so. You will be going to the high school at 10am tomorrow.

3.) POST A RESPONSE:

Today, we reviewed your reading strategies to remind you of what you needed to do for your visible thinking (sticky notes) in your picture books.
Which reading strategies do you regularly use when trying to find the big ideas? You have learned 7 in total (purpose, monitor comprehension, determine what's important, inferences, synthesizing and evaulating to get the big idea)
Do we use all of these strategies all the time? Explain in one or two sentences.
List all the strategies you use regularly.
How do you use them? Give some examples.
Comment on at least one other student's post. Give them some feedback on the givens: spelling, capitals, punctuation, grammar, and sentence structure.

You don't use all the reading strategies because sometimes you have to do the strategies before you read and sometimes you do it after.
Set a purpose, Inferences.
I make a purpose why to read it and I use inferences during reading because I think about what is going to happen next base on the information I know or have.

You do NOT use all he strategies all the time. You might use some after Redington during reading or before Reading like a prediction.

However you do use back round knowledge (B.K.)all the time to make connections and infrences... if you already read a book you would use your back round knowledge (B.K.) to know what's it's about.

We don't use all 7 at the same time. We usually use 3 or 2 and those are Visualize, check google and inference. We would really never need to use the other 4 because we don't necessarily need it to get the full extension of a feel of a book.

The strategies that I use is purpose because it helps me a lot. And reread because it helps me understand what I am reading and it helps me find the big idea.

The strategy I use the most is monitor comprehension. we don't use all the strategy the sames time, because everyone is different. You can if you want to. I always set a purpose, make connections,monitor comprehension, and visualization.I ask questions and I also ask classmates for helping.

I only use 2 to 3 reading strategies the one that I use the most is reread, because it helps me understand the Story much more clearly.
The second reading strategy is setting a big idea, setting a big idea help with some book and you get to use you background knowledge.
The third reading stategy is purpose, I like to set a purpose to some of the story's that I'm reading it helps a lot.

I usually think about connections and things similar to figure it out. If I had a connection, it could be the same issue then. I also use Purpose because if not, I would be lost and not knowing what to do. We don't use all of them because it could be a lesson that we're supposed to use one strategy. But if you want, you can use them all.
- Finding the big idea
I use this because we want to know what the story/poem/song is about.
- Back round knowledge
I use this to find connections and to see if they're similar.

~Strategy~
The strategy that I use all the time is evaluating to get the big idea. Also, you can't use all of the strategies on the same time, because it will make you confused, and it would become even more harder. The strategies I usually use is reading more than one time to understand the story. Whenever I finish reading the story once, I read it again to understand more.

The strategy I use is is to reread because it helps me a lot with stuff like...
1.) the novel approach on docs - (see you again).
2.) the visual thinking.
3.) the mach box (I think that was the title).

I use Monitor Comprehension, purpose, and Inferences. Because it helps me get a better understanding and pushes my thinking further.

But remember not to use all the strategies at once because it can confuse you and push you away from the big idea. ( or at least that's what I think). When I'm using the strategies like using Monitoring My Comprehension is Re- reading because it helps me get a better feeling and like I said gives me a better and deeper understanding.

I use in infences the nod out of the 7.
I don't use all 7 because I don't really think I need all of them.
The strategies I normally use is background knowledge. Like for example in the book it said "I have a Dad" than I would be like "OMG I HAVE A DAD HOLY MAC AND CHEESE!"

We do not use all reading strategies because one strategy is different for different purposes, we regularly on use about 2-3 of these strategies.

Explanation:If you need to think/visualize a image you wouldn't use monitoring your comprehension because that's totally different but you could use background knowledge to think about the play if you have background knowledge about it.

List of strategies:visualizing what the author of the book or person in the book to imagine what they were feeling, background knowledge to understand what his happening in the book, maybe the same thing happens to you.

You don't use your eyes to visualize.

If you'd rad a book befor you would know what's going to happen because you've read it so that means you have background knowledge.

You do not use all of the reading strategies because you some times set a purpose or re read. And you can't set a purpose and re read at the same time. I use M.C. because I do a lot of the stuff in M.C. I always set a purpose because then I know what to work to. What my goal is to finish. I use set a purpose like this. Like to get a feel to a book to know what it is about.

No we don't always use these strategies because at times for certain stories or song lyrics not all are necessary

I regularly use purpose and monit or comprehension because I find it easier and more helpful

All the time I use re read . Read aloud, ask questions , stop and think and get a feel

The strategy I use is retreading because it helps me think deeper and when I don't get something and I read over it again it usually helps me a lot

Well, it's true we shouldn't use all strategies at the same time. We can use the other strategies next time if it is necessary. If you want to.
I set a purpose from the start to know what I'm looking for in the story. When I get deeper in the story I usually re-read or read slowly in order to understand what I'm reading. Because there's still some words I don't understand. I also visualize and connect it together to the picture and it would make more sense.

We should not use all reading straghitys at the same time. We should use them different times in the book. I like to use backround knollege a lot so I can actually remember and it works effective.
I useally like to ask questions and think a lot about when I read my book

I don't think you use all of the reading strategies but I think you like maybe 1 to 3unless you want to

I use connections and monitoring my comprehension
