Build a simple motor Today was a busy day of learning as usual! Student hit the ground running by generating some criteria for their speeches. Afterward, we looked at some example topics for their persuasive topics. Tomorrow, we will brainstorm more topics and choose ones that the students want to present on. They will work through the writing process and then have time to practice their presentation of their ideas. This process will take about a month. They participated in their first book club session for Novel approach where they learned from one another and they learned some strategies for multiplying decimals using estimation and by counting the number of digits after the decimal. In the afternoon, we continued reading 'FREEDOM TRAIN' to learn about Harriett Tubman's struggles and accomplishments. In Science, many students were successful in their scientific inquiries into creating a simple motor. Watch this video to see an example of what the students made without researching how to do it!

SUCCESS CRITERIA:
1.) Paragraph format (intro, body, and conclusion)
2.) Must include the following vocabulary in your paragraph: electricity, electromagnet, closed circuit, conductor, battery, repel/push, attract/pull, magnet, opposite poles, like poles, and any other scientific language you can think of from this unit.
3.) Must explain the science behind this activity.
4.) Check to make sure you have included all the above scientific words.
5.) Complete a self-assessment of the above criteria and edit/revise as needed.
