TUESDAY: STUDENT PASSIONS (image to be updated)

One of our students, Ichigo, posted this video on our blog yesterday. If you haven't watched it yet, be sure to check it out! He has only been playing for about a year and is already playing a song that is at the Grade 7 Royal Conservatory level. Playing the piano is one of Ichigo's passions and he has highlighted this on his website as well. Part of your homework tonight is to create your 'PASSION PAGES'.

1.) WEBSITES/PASSION PAGES:

Create a single blog page and title it 'PASSION PAGE'.
Create two posts and use the 'IMAGE + TEXT' feature.
Title each of them according to each of your passions. Clearly, one of Ichigo's passions is playing the piano.
Write a paragraph for each of your passions explaining why you are passionate about what you chose to write about. Pay attention to your structure, spelling, capitals, grammar, etc.

2.) MATH 6/7: Any assigned work from yesterday.

3.) POST A RESPONSE:

What are two things that you are passionate about?
Paste your two paragraphs from your website assignment here so you can teach your classmates more about yourself!
Reply to two of your classmates by asking them interesting questions about their passions.
Answer any questions you receive.
Obviously you will have to check the website several times today.

MONDAY: FINDING MULTIPLES OF A NUMBER

Today, students learned about poetry. They learned that using powerful and descriptive words can evoke different feelings and emotions. Students worked on 'FALL' haikus today. Think of a Haiku like a tweet or a text. Your poem must contain a certain number of syllables (5-7-5). Similar to a text or a tweet which must include 140 characters. Both are limited.

CHALLENGE: I wonder if any of you can do some investigative research and find out why a single text message is limited to 140 characters?

1.) LA: Complete Haiku and colour your Autumn scene. Fee free to get as creative as you wish. If you want to use real leaves on your landscape, go right ahead! SURPRISE ME! These will be handed in tomorrow.

2.) SCIENCE: Complete all questions assigned by Miss B. Click here to view them.

3.) MATH 6: Any work assigned by Miss B. (Chapter 3 Lesson 2 worksheet and workbook questions)
MATH 7: Any assigned work. Check your teacher's website.

3.) POST A RESPONSE:

Since you worked on using powerful and descriptive words in your Haikus today, I would like all of you to create your own Haiku (5-7-5 syllable count) based on the same image.

FRIDAY: GROUSE GRIND

Yesterday, the students completed their first Grouse Grind of the year! Many of the students were excited to be able to hike up with all of their Grade 5/6/7 friends! They hiked up 2.9km of trail with a total elevation of 2,800 feet! This include 2,830 individual stairs! It was an incredibly vertical hike and all of the students completed it! If you ever need to be motivated, watch this video!

1.) LA: The winner of our 100 Word Challenge will be posted here on Sunday evening!

2.) POST A RESPONSE (SCIENCE):

On Monday, you will be diving deeper into different biomes and the characteristics of living and non-living things.
In your opinion, what do you think all living things need to survive? Think about this carefully.
Using the individual species you used for your 'NEST' assignment, LIST AND EXPLAIN 5 things you feel are essential for life.

3.) WEEBLY WEBSITE:

Add Mr. Hong as an Administrator editor on your website. Click here for instructions and send the invite to [email protected]
Play around with your Weebly website and get accustomed to the different functions. Make sure you have chosen a theme that you're happy with. Remember your digital citizenship and the element of privacy. Use your common sense.

WEDNESDAY: DIGITAL LAW

Today, we had a very serious discussion about online piracy. Many students were unaware of how serious it is to download music/videos/software illegally. It is just the same as walking into a store and stealing a CD from the shelf. We discussed digital law, which is a major part of being a good digital citizen. Obeying the law is part of not only being a good digital citizen, but a good citizen in general.

1.) MATH 6/7: Assignments due tomorrow (THURSDAY) before the Grouse Grind.
MATH 6: Complete pg 73 #8-11. SHOW ALL WORK. Watch this video on 'FINDING FACTORS'.
MATH 7: Complete any assigned work. Check your teacher's website.

2.) SCIENCE: Assignments are due on Friday.

3.) POST A RESPONSE:

Post your final draft of your 100 word challenge writes here.
Read and comment on at least 5 other ones. Remember, don't just say, "Good work!" Tell your classmate why you think they did a good job.

TUESDAY: NESTED CIRCLES (ECOSYSTEMS)

Today, the students continued researching and learning about their individual species for their 'NESTED CIRCLE' assignments. They are learning to ensure they keep track of their sources and to give credit to the creators of images and information. Students will continue to build their research and digital citizenship skills throughout the year.

1.) LA: All students will share their 100 Word challenge writes with the class tomorrow.

2.) MATH 6: Complete Chapter 3 Lesson 1 worksheet and Page 72 of the Math Focus textbook on Identifying Factors (Factor Rainbows).
MATH 7: Complete any assigned work. Check your teacher's class website.

DIV 4 MATH 6/7: All images/pictures for your multiplication/division projects should be completed for tomorrow. Assignments will be due on Thursday morning before we leave for Grouse Mountain.

3.) SCIENCE: All images for your 'INDIVIDUAL' and 'POPULATION' sections of your 'NESTED CIRCLE' assignments should be ready for tomorrow. These should be coloured as well. Assignment are due on Friday.

4.) POST A REPONSE:

Why should we always include information about where you obtained information or images?
Do you think downloading mp3s and movies without paying for them is wrong? Explain why you think this or why you don't think it is wrong.
