Daily routines are quite important for students. Waking up at a regular time, eating breakfast, washing your face, brushing your teeth, etc. It helps us get our day started and also helps us wind down at the end of the day. If you don't have any routines, you should think about how you can use daily routines to keep you focused and on track with school and life!

SHAPE OF THE DAY
1.) DAILY LEARNING: Read the weekly newsletter for today's instructions. This document is updated daily so if you printed it out yesterday, chances are it has been updated since then! It is extremely important you read EVERYTHING! If you don't, you will miss something!

2.) POST A RESPONSE:

Based on your PAR from yesterday, do the following:
LEARNING INTENTION: I can create and share my Google doc file, write an introductory paragraph with an engaging hook, and give 2 friends feedback to improve.
SUCCESS CRITERIA:
1.) Copy and paste your PAR from yesterday to a Google Doc.
2.) Title this 'YOUR NAME HIGH SCHOOL ESSAY'
3.) Share this document with me to my gmail and to at least 2 other students.
4.) Post this link on FreshGrade.
5.) Choose 3 of your best ideas you have been brainstorming about for you thesis statement.
6.) Write your introductory paragraph (engaging hook and thesis statement).
7.) Use all the resources on types of hooks and introductions you have learned this year.

Great intro Ethel. I love your quote as a hook. When writing a formal essay - try to avoid using contractions. Example, instead of You'll, use, You will, etc. It makes it more formal and professional sounding.

Hi Ethel! I really like your quote in the first sentence. In my opinion for your second sentence, you would like to say "High school *is* unpredictable instead of can be. Also, you can also combined the 2nd and 3rd sentence together by erasing the period and and replacing it with *,and *. This is just my own opinion however :)

Remember that time where you are about to go to high school? All the excitement and nervousness? I am about to go through the same trauma or excitement as you. Or you might be going through the same process as me, so let's help each other. I have some advice for you and you might have some for me. I am quite decent at time management, but I also school isn’t all about worry, I have some things to look forward to and some things I rather ignore.

What was your highschool experience like? Since I have yet to start high school I'm not exactly sure what to expect, although i have a few ideas. I have quit a lot of friends in high school that have told me what to expect, changes, how to “survive” the first year and some habits I should establish. When entering high school, there are certain habits and attitudes that need to be established in order to make the transition experience easier. With that, going into high school you also need to understand that there are going to be parts of it you love, others that you don't like and challenges along the way.To illustrate, you may need to make new friends, this could be because you don't have any classes together,they are in different school/program, have different interests or you may just drift apart. When that happens you need to have an open mind to new people and new friends. Even though I am not in high school yet, I do have a few tips I have picked up from my high school friends that will help with the start of highschool.
need to know how to manage everything that comes along with it. although I think that before and during high school you need to learn how to manage your time wisely, not over work yourself and ask questions. I also think you should prepare yourself for things you are looking forward to, things you are not looking forward to and how to deal with it. I used these tips to create a mini guide on how to “survive” the start of high school, changes and adapting to them and habits and attitudes you should establish

Hi Sophia, I enjoyed reading your intro. You have a hook, question and I notice that you are using quite a few nice and interesting sentence starters like: To illustrate and With that. This makes your writing sound more sophisticated. Nicely done. My main suggestion is that you cut this paragraph back - As an intro, it does not need to be too long and I think you go into some of the info that can wait for the body of your essay. Like the part about making new friends. Focus on keeping just your hook, maybe the next few sentences and then end with your topic sentence which should simply state that you are going to be talking about what you are excited about, worried about and how you are going to prepare for high school. Great start, I like your writing style :)

@Adrian - I think you talking about what you think of high school and how it works, really gives us an understanding of what you might talk about, which is good. The thesis was pretty clear, although Brieana is right the ending was a bit off the books. So maybe try and make it a more connectable sentence. Maybe you could also add some personal connections, for example add some info of how your parents felt when they went to high school and compare your thoughts with theirs, or even your siblings. Don't hang back, add more to it.

High school? Is a nervous feeling coming to you? Maybe it’s excitement? You were once in the oldest grade, however grade 8 comes and you're actually in the youngest grade! You might think of it as a fresh start, but that’s what you say to yourself every year, so you might as well give up. Fear not, high school is like elementary school’s older sibling, more mature and more freedom. As you enter high school, you wouldn’t really know what to do, thoughts would flood in your mind such as, “What do I do”? “What will people think of me”? “How do I start”? Questions like these are something we should think about before we enter the new school, perhaps ask your siblings or parents for some tips, for example my mom said to be yourself, and stay confident at all time. Even so, there is nothing to be afraid of, maybe you'll enjoy a new school for once, but I am also attending a high school next year, and we'll be in this together. New expectations, so it could be tough, anyways high school might be a new, exhilarating start and maybe we'll enjoy it!

When I think about high school I picture what I have seen in movies, boys whipping each other with towels in the locker room and nerds getting shoved into lockers. High school is a big step up from elementary school and so it is important to get prepared. I think that the top 3 ways to prepare is to ensure you have school supplies, know how to get to the school, and to have a plan of how you are going to make friends. From what I have been told although some parts can be scary there are also a lot of opportunities for fun in high school.

Highschool is a huge mega ultra super step up from elementary school and so it is important to think brightly and get prepared. Did you know a shocking 80% of students have felt stress or pushed to their limits, and another 30% have symptoms of depression and anxiety in the United States of America. This is what I am worried about when I enter the high school zone, I feel stressed even thinking about it. But I have good thoughts as well, I have always thought to myself, how can I make the most of the time I have in high school and what I overall look forward to. But the other side of me also wonders how I can do it all, I am no child prodigy with a library of knowledge to behold, I am a regular kid attending high school because it is for my own good, not because I want to but rather I need to. Other than things I look forward to, I also have a list of things I want to do and what I hope to gain and achieve from my time at school. In other words High School has a lot to offer in the form of education to friendship and relationships, I find it interesting because it actually is just harder in general, but the harder it gets the more opportunities you have. And here's what I have to say about high school and my take on how I want things to go.

I don’t like school. This is a common opinion among most people. However, one who receives non-biased useful information is much more likely to be successful and a large amount of these people in the population can make a nation more successful as well as less vulnerable to tyranny. Despite this, I am not excited about high school. Lots of homework, a lot of teachers, confusing layout and whatnot. However, I am looking forward to not going to a school which is a safety hazard and isn’t falling apart with actual water fountains like my personal favourite, the Elkay EZH2O LZS8WSLP Next Generation Water Bottle Refilling Station, Wall Mount, Gray compared to the model at Laurier which is so old that I can’t identify it. It’s a mixed bag.

High school and elementary school are two different worlds to be in. You could get lost anywhere in high school because it is like a maze. But in elementary school it is not as huge as high school, so you won’t get lost. There will be more rooms, more floors and more students than elementary schools, so when I go to high school I hope I won’t get lost in the halls or won’t know which floor the classroom is. So in this essay I am going to talk about what I’m looking forward to, what I’m not excited about and how I’ll prepare.

People say high school is scary. I agree because so many new doors are being opened for the first time and you may not know how to handle it. Everyone heading into high school has something they're looking forward to, somethings they aren't excited for, and to help with those, they can come up with somethings to help them prepare. I'm going to talk about each of these topics in this essay.

Maybe instead of "People say high school is scary" you could say "Some people say high school is scary".

What was your highschool experience like? As you may have already known, I have yet to start high school. although I'm not exactly sure what to expect, i have a few ideas. I have quit a lot of friends in high school that have told me what to expect, changes, how to “survive” the first year and some habits I should establish. When entering high school, there are certain habits and attitudes that need to be established in order to make the transition experience easier. With that, going into high school you also need to understand that there are going to be parts of it you love, others that you don't like and challenges along the way.. Even though I am not in high school yet, I do have a few tips I have picked up from my high school friends that will help with the start of high school.

How can I survive through high school without having to completely fail and how can I constantly maintain good grades? Should I be glad? Should I be worried? I’m not all that sure yet myself. I’m sure you have all been stressed, nervous, and at the same time excited about the idea of highschool. Even if I’m not sure what to expect, it will still be of great use if I prepare myself for the worst, to have a better outcome. It will greatly affect our lives and help mold us into a better, and more educated person. I still have lots to overcome and even more to achieve, but how should I prepare, and how should I help myself? Let’s find out together.
