Today, a district resource teacher, Benee, gave a very informative presentation on diversity. Parents, if you have a moment, please watch this video. The students were engaged in the topics discussed and I know they will all benefit from it. It was such a great presentation! In Math, students continued learning various methods on how to calculate GCF. In Inquiry, students continued to dive into reliable research. In PE, students completed their first beep test as a pre-assessment of their cardiovascular abilities.

IMPORTANT:
1.) POST A RESPONSE: Some students have not been completing the daily PARS. This is your chance to catch up! Go back and completed your missed PARS!

LEARNING PLANNER:
1.) READING: 20 - 30 minutes

2.) MATH: Complete all GCF questions. Questions # 1, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, and 8.

3.) POST A RESPONSE:

LEARNING INTENTION: I can explain something I learned in the diversity presentation today.
SUCCESS CRITERIA:
1.) PARAGRAPH FORMAT: intro/body/ conclusion.
2.) GIVENS: Pay close attention to your spelling, capitals, punctuation, grammar, sentence structure, etc.
3.) INTRO: Make it as exciting and engaging as possible with good adjectives!
4.) BODY: Include at least 2-3 examples/supporting points.
5.) CONCLUSION: Tie up your paragraph smoothly.
6.) PEER FEEDBACK/SELF-ASSESSMENT: Give 1 student 2 things to improve on based on the above criteria.

See if you can remember this: 2SLGBTQ+ in five seconds. 2SLGBTQ+ stands for two spirited, lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer questioning, and the plus means so on. Something I learned is that there are some people that are neither a boy or a girl, just in between. Those are people who are non-binary. Also if you see someone getting picked on because of that, be brave and do something about it.

A teacher came in today to talk about diversity. In that hour I learned a lot of things. One of the things that I learned about is the meanings to all the other genders. For example, lesbian, gay, transgender... Another thing that I learned about is the gender unicorn. The gender unicorn is a chart/drawing to illustrate gender. It explains your gender identity, expression, your gender assigned at birth, and who you are emotionally and physically attracted to. I learned a lot of things today, and now have a better understanding of diversity.

Today we learned more about it when a resource teacher came in and taught us about diversity and the 2sLGBTQ+ (2 spirited, lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans and queer) community. Personally I learned more about the LGBTQ+ community. I used to think there was just LGBTQ+, but it turns out there is more than that! The presenter taught us that there is also a 2S in LGBTQ+. She really explained it really well, I understood it in less than a minute. She also talked how hard it is to get used to using other pronouns. That's why we need practice it. Some new pronouns that I learnt today was Zie/Zir and Hir/Hirs. I really had no idea these pronouns existed! I also learned that if you call somebody the wrong pronoun it will hurt them!

Have you ever wondered what 2SLGBTQ+? I haven't, but a presenter came in and taught me some stuff that I'm forced to reflect on. Anyways ,here's some things about it! 2SLGBTQ+ means two spirited, lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans or transgender, and queer, which is apparently a bit of controversial topic. Oh yeah and the plus means the 72 other ones, which I actually searched up. I also learned about things like gender expression and how doctors sometimes gets the babies gender wrong, which is something I did not know. There's also physical expression and emotional expression, which to me seem like the same thing, but I guess its not. One specific thing I could not wrap my head around is pronouns, neo pronouns, and xeno pronouns. With all due respect, I do not think xeno pronouns should exist, they look like they were made by a five year old was trying to figure out their gender by making random sounds and writing them on the internet. But hey, thats my opinion, it's a diverse world with lots of diversity, which is what this presentation was all about, right?

Anyways this presentation opened my eyes to things I usually don't open my eyes to and I think theres a special reason for that.

Today we learnt about sexual orientation and diversity.

The presenter taught us about some of the main genders and sexualities which I found very interesting and entertaining as I am in the lgbtqia+ community!

They also taught us about 2 spirit and it was a very interesting topic and I’ve never heard it before so it was a new thing to me and I was really interested in that topic!

I believe the main purpose of this presentation was to not only educate students about diversity and sexual orientation but to tell others that it’s ok to be you and that gender assigned at birth and the clothes you wear doesn’t mean that you are a certain gender identity.

Remember that it’s okay to be trans or any other sexuality that’s not heterosexual/straight. All that matters what you identify as as a person and what’s in between someone legs is really none of your business.

Do you know what 2SLGBTQ+ is? The most common answer isn't what it actually is. That's why today an amazing presenter came to our class to tell us a little bit about diversity, both in sexual orientation, gender identity, and gender expression.

I learned many things during today's presentation. For example, I used to be confused about the difference between bisexual and pansexual. Now I know that bisexual refers to (usually) a man who is attracted to both men and women, or a woman or is attracted to both women and men. It can also be used to refer to anyone who is attracted to both their same gender and another gender. And pansexual means that the person is attracted to people regardless of their gender. I also learned that the term "queer" does not just refer to "genderqueer," but also someone who is unsure about their sexual orientation.

I really enjoyed the presentation today and I learned a lot of new things! I hope we can have more presentations like this in the future.

A presenter came into our class and taught us about sexual orientation and gender identity, also known as SOGI. Their name is Benee (sorry if i spelt it wrong) and they identify as they/them.

I learned that what gender doctors assign people at birth are not always correct. Sometimes it is, sometimes it's not. Somebody who's assigned male at birth and grows up and stays male is cisgender, a person who stays the same gender they are assigned to at birth. But some people get assigned male at birth and grow up to be female, nonbinary, polygender, etc.

Now for the sexual orientation part, just know that gender identity and sexual orientation are totally different things. Sexual orientation is who/what you're physically attracted to. If you're attracted to all genders, that's pansexual. If you're attracted to girls and boys, that's bisexual or also known as bi. If you're a man attracted to men you are gay. If you're a woman attracted to women that means you're lesbian. Ace/asexual means you have little to no romantic attraction to anyone at all.

There are a lot more, but these are the ones that come to mind for me. What are some gender identities/sexual orientations you know?

so, what is diversity? Diversity simply means differences. If there is a diverse group of pets, for example, there might be a dog, a cat, a bird, and a lizard. People can be different in many ways too, and we should respect the 2SLGBTQ community. 2SLGBTQ stands for two-spirited, lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer. Many people don't liked the fact that people can be different from what they are expected to do. They say harmful things to people just because of their differences either intentionally or not. I hope that those people will open their eyes one day and accept this fact.

When I heard about a diversity presentation happening, I assumed it was going to cover varying topics and discuss how to be respectful in general. So, I was surprised when I heard that the presentation was about the 2SLGBTQ+ community! My thing!! However, because I already know a ton about the community, I didn't learn anything about it this time around. Though I can still explain my thoughts about the slideshow, can't I?

First of all, let me explain what 2SLGBTQ+ stands for before I dive into my thoughts. "2S" means Two-spirit, which is a term used by queer Indigenous people, from what I've researched. (I'm not Indigenous, so I can't really tell much about this topic; I'll get facts wrong.) The "L" stands for lesbian; "G" for gay; "B" for bisexual or biromantic; "T" for transgender; and "Q" for both queer and questioning. The plus also represents something, which is all the other identities not included otherwise!

Now, it's time for my impression of the presentation. It was pretty nice and included a lot of information without being extremely overwhelming, and I was pleasantly astounded by the fact that they included neopronouns! Typically, I don't see many school-approved 2SLGBTQ+ presentations talk about neopronouns, since it's such an undercover thing. On the other hand though, I was shocked when I saw how many insensitive or plain rude comments there were. For context, the presenter and Mr. Hong made an anonymous Q&A forum so that students could ask questions without people having to know who they were. It was a good idea, minus the fact that my classmates could anonymously post hate comments and heartless remarks. It was horrible to see how judgemental and excluding my classmates could be, even if it was only one or two people. Homophobia and transphobia aren't cool, don't make you seem cool, and is disrespectful and harmful to the people around you. Like Mr. Hong says, think before you click. These people clearly weren't thinking when they responded with these messages.

Overall, the experience was so-so, but the presentation was well thought-out and talked about topics that I wouldn't typically see people talk about. I just hope that whoever said those horrible things can realize their mistakes, and get better, instead of continuing their hate speech. Remember, it's okay to be 2SLGBTQ+, and people shaming you or others for it are wrong!! Please stand up for our community!
