The Power of Words

Today, we learned about the power of words in bringing out emotions. We talked about what happened to Willow Chance's parents and how it must have been very difficult for her to have experienced such a loss. Students in the class connected with how she was feeling and like last week, members of our class were overwhelmed with emotions. As a teacher, I am proud of all of you for being brave enough to share your true feelings with your classmates. This tells me you trust your peers. Mr. Redikan and I are proud to be your teacher.

1.) POST A RESPONSE:

When we read, we often make connections to things that remind us of powerful experiences. Significant memories of our past often bring out deep emotions. In today's reading, we learned about Willow Chance's experience with her parents and discussed how she must have been feeling.
In your own words, write a short paragraph (intro, 3-5 supporting sentences, and a conclusion) about what we read about in 'COUNTING BY 7's' today and something in your life that you can connect to using you background knowledge.
Double check your spelling and sentence structure to make sure it make sense.
Comment on the paragraph structure of your peers to see if they included an interesting introduction, 3-5 sentences, and a concluding sentence.
Edit/revise your post based on your peer feedback or your self-assessment.

Today we were reading Counting By 7's. It was really sad and interesting at the same time. The main character's name was Willow Chance. She was adopted because her real parents died. And at the story, her step-parents died too. My connection to the story is... Last year, my dad fell down from a building (He was a roofer). It was 15 feet. He hurt his back and had to go to the hospital. His hearing was damaged too. But he can still hear. He also had a surgery. It's because his spine was hurt from the fall. He's doing well now though.

In class we read counting by sevens. We talked about Willow's parents dying. I made a connection that my opa has dementia and I got emotional. This part of the story was very sad for most people and I hope that this does not happen to any of my parents or my classmates parents.

In Counting By 7 to day we talked about the main idea and about Willow Chance's parents death. It reminded me of my uncle's funeral. At that time I was in grade 2. I got very sad.

@ Jesse - Please re-read the post a response instructions. You are required to include an interesting introduction, 3-5 supporting sentences, and a concluding sentence. Currently, your introduction could use some work. Also, you do not have 3-5 supporting sentences. Also, see if you can include some transition words like 'for example' and 'In conclusion'.

I think this chapter was very powerful. When ever I think about this chapter I think of my uncle. I don't think I will ever forget about this chapter.

Short Paragraph Chapter book review-ish

In the book "Counting by 7's." Chapter 17-18, We learned how Willow felt about her parents passing away. Her friend Mai or May* (Sorry I don't know how to spell her name...) convinced the counselor to let her be. That was the conclusion.
I couldn't make a connection with backround knowledge because I don't have a relative who I know of that died because of a disease or age.
FOTD: Tomatoes are actually fruits.

Today, Mr. Hong read 2 chapters from Counting by 7s. The 2nd chapter was depressing and sad. (T-T) Willow Chance shared her feelings about her parents passing on. Some of the students shared connections.

Willow chances parent died before (maybe) and was adopted by another family they also died. So Willow is sad and still thinks her parents are still alive.

my great grandma died before (I don't remember when) but I think she had cancer and before she went to the hospital we tried waking her up because we thought she was sleeping but there was no reaction to anything so we sent her to the hospital and was told she had cancer or I don't know something else.

Willows parents are dead,
Today we were reading counting by 7 then willows parents died even the one that adopted her.it was really emotional grandmother died when I was here and when we were in Afghanistan we lived in the same house we were really close then one day we get a call saying that she died it the morning while sleeping there was nothing wrong with her but she was crying a lot because we left that might be the reason she probably passed away.

We learned about willow Chance being really smart.She also know lots about doctor stuffs. She also gardens to. That's her happy spot I guess. We also learned that she went through her parents dieing. I had a connection about this in class I said... I remember a time when my grandma was Suffering Through brain cancer and me and my mom would just cry.

We learned how Willow Chance is really smart and she likes medical stuff. When ever she is sad she goes to the garden to relax her. Her parents died in a car accident. My connection is that how she figured out that her parents died after school. well the same thing kind of happened to me except my mom told me my aunt died from cancer. I could not meet my aunt because everyone thought she was going to survive so I could not see her in the hospital. And she was in the hospital fr 2 years.

Today we read Counting By 7's the main character is willow chance.
She is really smart but in the first chapter her parents died.
She was a adopted by her parents she had a rare condition that made her really smart every day she has to meet with the Council.

My grandfather was only like 37 when he died and i never got to meet him because he died when my mom was still in school. He died of smoking too much and when Mr.Hong read that chapter it reminded me... My grama told me she marred the wrong person. She could be often cold and heartless

Anyways in class yesterday we read a story about a girl name willow chance who'se parents were killed in a car crash not to long ago and its hard.

Yesterday , in class MR.Hong was reading Counting by 7's . At one point in the story He red an emotional part about willow chance , Of tell her feeling about how her parents died . Just before we carried on with the story , MR.Hong said " Can anyone relate to willow Chance" Only a few students shared they're personal thoughts , it was very emotional for all of us.

-My connection to willow chance -
Last year my 3 week baby died ........ I was very very very very emotional for me . All i felt was a deep ,dark, sad whole in my chest . It feels soooooo bad and sad , i can't even explain how it feels . trust me you don't want to feel this ( i'm crying) . Just imagine one of your most important family member just left you .. How would you feel ... At his funeral seeing a baby laying down , like he is just talking a nap but, deep down you know that it's not true . Today i'm still re- covering from this .... If willow Chance was a real person i would say she's not the only one .

I cried a lot during the making of this.

YES it was a Thursday after school I was at my friends house when my dad picked me up to get a haircut there was a week and one day left of school.But on the way to get a haircut my dad too me we were going to Vancouver island because my uncle past away and the odd thing was we were sopped to go anyway because the uncle that past away we were going to see his brother that died 3 years before we were going to visit his grave.Then the dead brother's brother died and I couldn't believe it in the dar I almost started to cry I couldn't believe it he was so nice and awesome.No one in his family deserved it. R.I.P

Ring!!!! Willow chance is a girl that moved to a new school and so did I.When summer ended I had moved to Surrey because the homes in Vancouver costed too much,I had to leave all my friends behind and start a new school,a new life.I was really shy when I first came here but over the weeks and months I started get friends and I was happy.
