Katzie Nation Culture - Slahal Today, we had a representative of the Katzie nation visit our class to teach us a little bit about the Katzie culture. He taught the students how to play Slahal. This game is a traditional practice accompanied by drumming and singing played throughout North America. The nature of the games allow participants to overcome language barriers through the use of body language (signing, gestures, etc). They learned about the history and the significance of Slahal, when the game is played and for what purpose (to acquire trade goods and a process for dispute resolution).
