French Culture

Today, we the Gr. 6/7 students returned to their Science units after a brief holiday from it. The Grade 7's started on their final challenge to create an electromagnet and the Grade 6's reviewed some information, instructions, and the criteria/rubric for their final projects. In addition to this, Mr. Collins taught you a little bit about French music and culture.

IMPORTANT: Don't forget your compass card and/or bus fare for the field trip tomorrow, and be sure to dress for the weather! We will leave at around 8:45am. ARRIVE EARLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ah... This was... Interesting.

Ideally I thought that French music would sound... French like. As in those cliche French background music in movie scenes that take place in Paris. Instead, the music sounds like our music, but I couldn’t understand a single word they said. So I’m short, no. The music we heard today did NOT sound like what I had in mind.

What surprised me was that it sounded exactly like the pop/I don’t know music that we have here. But I couldn’t understand a single word they said. I WANT TO KNOW SOME CONTEXT!

I would say that my favourite song out of the three is definitely... THE INTEGERS SONG! Just kidding, if I had to chose a favourite song it would be Dernière Danse. It sounded and looked very deep.

In conclusion I believe that French music is, as stated earlier, very interesting. I am in between liking and disliking french music. But I guess it sounds okay.

"Wow, why are there hearts all over the classroom?". Apparently they were for standing in front of it we liked or disliked some type of French music. I thought that the music might be a bit boring to listen to and experience, but actually, it was fun and interesting to listen to and watch various music videos. If I had to choose a favorite to listen to and enjoy, I would choose Si Jamais J'oublie.

It really surprised me, because all of the other songs had a very random topic or some pressuring voices. However, this song was light, carefree and generally very hopeful. The video showed how much real life can be happy if we just hold on to memories. I plugged the title of this song into google translate and apparently it means "If Someday I Forget". This shows how we all need to look on the bright side of things and keep going with life even when things get tough. It doesn't matter if anything depressing drags you down, you should live life to the fullest instead.

In conclusion, as we learn more about the French culture, it keeps getting more and more interesting to find out different facts. It just makes me more curious to what is coming up next in this unit.

This morning mr Collins showed us four French music videos. They didn’t sound like what I thought it would sound but there are still a few of them that I liked the most. I thought French music would sound like traditional classic music but they did not sound like traditional classic music. What surprised me was that the first one we listened to wasn’t even French at all. It was another random language that I dont know. If you want Me to chose a favorite song I would choose c’est la vie because it sounds good and it sounds exciting. French music is not what I expected at all.

The music is actually quite interesting, I meant, I could feel how special is the music culture of French. The music songs and dances remind me of the earliest 21st Century Music. The period of the 21st Century Music is exactly the same as the dances and the music of those French songs. I am pretty much enjoyed that, and I appreciate that.

My name favourite song will also be Papaoutai by Stromae. Because it is not a really sad or joyful song. It is quite like songs that contain deep meaning, or feelings. But the best thing I want to say is the dancing movements are pretty much amazing! That did surprise me. I think, this song also made me feel how amazing the dancing movements are in the French music culture. I really enjoyed this song and others, and feel impressed by the French culture of music!

What kind of 21st century music do you mean? Can you give us an example?

@Mr. Collins. 21st Century is the earliest popular music culture. It is right after Romantic Period. 21st Century Music could be waltz music, popular Jazz music, Latin... Something like that, etc.

Khaled - C'est la vie was my favorite song when I was a child, I used to dance in front of my dad when he played the song and my mom would usually laugh. When Mr. Collins played that song it brought back memories, also I did not expect the other French songs to be different. Like the song Indila - Derniere, I did not realize how the song sounded like but it wasn't better than C'est la vie. I also read that the person who composed this was Moroccan-Swedish, so there were some Moroccan/Arabic lyrics there. So, my favorite song is C'est la vie and I thought the other songs would sound like my favorite song but it did not sounded like I expected.

@ Zarif - Great job! I like how detailed you were on your points. Though, there can be some improvements made. One of which is avoiding run-on sentences and using correct punctuation (the first two lines). Also, “favorite” is spelled “favourite in Canada. Other than that, I liked your writing a lot!

Today, we had Mr. Collins teach us about French Culture. One of the key parts of their culture include their music. Mr. Collins showed us some French songs, and we had to show our preference by standing under what we think. All of them were ok, one of them which I especially like. That song is “Si Jamais J’oublie” by ZAZ (Isabelle Geffroy).

Though we didn’t have time to listen to it in class, I still recognized the song because it is one of my French teacher’s favourite songs. The first time I heard her play this song, I expected something more strong and fast-paced. Instead, this song is more calming, joyful, and slow. I like how catchy the melody is and how it is very relaxing. For the other songs, I have heard Papaoutai (also from French class) but not the others. I wasn’t surprised because I expected pop music to be like that. I didn’t necessarily hate any of them, but I didn’t like any either. It was very interesting to see others’ opinions and preferences on these French songs.

To sum up, this is what I think about the songs we’ve listened to today. It is pretty similar to the music we have. In my opinion, I’d prefer “Si Jamais J’oublie” over the others. I hope to continue learn about more interest things and the other parts of French Culture with Mr. Collins!

Bow howdy I sure could go for a Baguette right about now...

Today we had our first french lesson in a very long time. For this small lesson, we discussed four phrases, I like, I really like, I do not like, and I do not like at all. We used these phrases in a small activity, the activity was about us listening to french songs, and choosing whether or not we like each one. The four songs we listened to were, Papaoutai made by Stromae, Derniere made by Indila, Si jamais j'oublie by Zaz, and C'est Lavie by Khaled. They each had their own small story, and each had at least something that made me think.

The songs that we listened to were french. Music changes depending where you go, different styles are more popular in a certain region, while others may be more globally liked. Thinking about music from different countries, it isn't best to think about stereotypes, as songs can be very different from the assumed culture. The songs the we were shown today were a great example of that, to me they sounded like songs I would have heard in 2012. As a joke I could only think about dumb joke songs that are related to french culture, but when I heard the songs that were shown to us, I wasn't very surprised.

The one thing that made me tilt my head a bit were the videos of the songs. Each of those videos told a story, but in a somewhat anomalous way. The first video by Khaled had the main singer look somewhat in A B S O L U T E A G O N Y, which made me giggle a small but, in all due respect it is a very good song that had much effort put into it, this goes for all the songs as well. The second song seemed to tell a small story, but the exaggerated video seemed to have misplaced my mind. The third video I did not watch because I had decided to take a small power nap while listening to the music. The last video only made me ask questions, but Mr. Collins had stated what the video meant after. Each of these videos tell a small story, and I can only wonder what each song means because I don't do french.

My favourite song would have to be C'est Lavie for both tasteful and comical reasons. The first reason is that the man's face is too unforgettable to me, I know it is just him being happy while singing, but one side of me cannot release the thought of that face. The second reason is that it has the most familiar music out of all of them. One more reason could be that the film looked like the actors had quite a lot of fun making this video. This song seemed to have passion seeping out of the screen.

All of these songs are unique in their own way, but none of them are too obnoxious. They all reminded me of songs I had heard when I was younger, and it did not surprise me very much that french music could sound like this. J'ai vraiment aimé la leçon d'aujourd'hui!

Your par is well-structured and well written but there are still places where you can improve. First of all, we listened to five songs and not four. Which do you think you missed? The third sentence in the second paragraph seems a little bit run-on. Maybe you could cut it shorter somewhere. Another mistake you made is that people don't "make" songs, they compose and write them. You are still partly correct, but when you say it in the way you said it, it suggests a physical kind of "create". Since French is a language, it should be capitalized. In the fourth paragraph, you mistakenly said that the song made you "giggle a small". You can read that over and fix that later. Overall, you did a pretty good job!

Today Mr. Collins taught us about French culture and we were shown some of the places where there were communities of French speakers. I think today may have been the first time I’ve ever heard someone sing in French, or maybe I have before and just didn’t know. I’ve never thought of how French music would sound like, but it was fine. Nothing really surprised me but I think I like the some of the songs more than I expected I would. I think if I had to choose one of the songs I would choose Si Jamais J’oublie, at first I didn’t know what the song meant but it was very enjoyable to listen to.

I'm not exactly sure what I feel about French pop. personally, my favourite French song of all time would be la vie en rose. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nyaLIgXm5l0 . when I think of French music, I think of the stereotypical cheesy, slow, simple songs. Listening to the songs mr.collins showed us really changed my view on French music. I learned that it is more diverse than I thought.
If I had to choose one song that we listened to today, it would be Dernière Danse. Out of all the other songs, I thought this one sounded the best. At first, I wasn't very keen on this song, but after listening to it over and over again, it started sounding better.
In conclusion, I learned lots about French culture today. I do prefer the stereotypical French musicI was talking about, but it was interesting to see different types of music.

Today, mr.Collins tought us a French lessons. Mr.Collins played some French songs fpor us, and let us write down if we like this song or not, we also stand under what we think. Even though I don't really understand what it's singing, but I still have one favourite song in it, the song called" stromae Papaoutai".

Although I am not really good at French, and I really not good at music, but I like the rythem it has, and I like the MV, it's creepy so I like it! The MV is talking about a singner whose father had some ill, which is really bad, and his father already died, so he write this song, I think he was in the blue zone when he write the song, but the song still sound happy, so I think it's very difficult to write a song that have happy rythem when you are sad. My friends all like this song, they have the same opinion as I do, they also think this some is really good.

In conclusion, I think "stromae Papaoutai" is my favourite song(well, the MV). Overall, I think today French lesson is really interesting and fun.

So Mr.Colins had another lesson. It was about french cultures and there music and stuff. We listened to some of them. I was pretty fun but only one thing, the music was not so good (in my opinion). So I didn't really think about thought how it would sound so I did not surprise me. I didn't really think what it would sound like but it kind of went where I imagined. As I said I didn't like any of the songs so I don't think I have a favorite one.

Is that French music? Not at all. It's pop music (7 Rings by Ariana Grande). So what does French music sound like?

When I first listened to some French music, it sounded nothing like any music I've ever heard. It definitely didn't sound like the classical and jazz music you hear at concerts and not like American pop. It obviously isn't Kpop (BTS), or Rap (Gucci Gang). Instead, it sounds really awkward and out of the ordinary.

I learned about four phrases: I like, I really like, I do not like, and I do not like at all. We used these phrases to express our opinions and thoughts on four songs. To be honest, if I had to choose to listen between any of those our songs or 'the ultimate cringe of 2017' (It's Everyday Bro), I would rather listen to Jake Paul's music.

The first song by Khaled, "C'est La Vie," had the main vocalist look like he was constipated and in serious need of laxatives. This made me double up in laughter because I am a weird person. The lyrics were very cheesy and were as cringy as Fortnite dances were in 2018. I only liked the video because of the singer's constipated face.

The second song, Derniere, by Indila, was about as pleasing to the ear as listening to Baby Shark on infinite loop. The lyrics sounded like a meaningless jumble of words and phrases. The video was even worse, all that was showcased was a dark screen and a random woman who is very depressed. Big Deal.

Papoutai, the third song, was probably the lesser earrape song of the four. At least it showed some humour, with a creepily life-like mannequin of the dude's dad. I learned that this song was about Stromae's father, who died doing something is Rwanda. Also, it had an actual storyline, but the video was poor quality and was about on par with cringiness as the dab.

The fourth song I couldn't care less for, I would rather listen to Mr. Hong's chants, and everyone knows how cringy THOSE are.

In conclusion, if I were forced to choose a French song that I liked, it would be Papoutai. When it comes to listening to music, I would rather choose to listen to "thank u, next" by Ariana Grande or any song that shares the same level of disgustingness, than some French music. No offence to French music lovers.

Today, Mr. Collins taught us about French music culture and played a few French songs. He told us to listen and determine if we liked each song and to write it on paper. I have no idea of what they were saying, but the video gave me hints. My favourite song out of all of them was probably C'est la vie.

As I said, today Mr. Collins played French songs for us, and I knew they would sound different, but as I listened to the songs, the difference between French and English songs blew me away. I cannot really describe it, but the images and rhythm seemed so foreign to what I am used to.

In conclusion, French songs are REALLY different, though I would definitely prefer to listening to English music (THE FLAMINGO SONG).

This morning, Mr. Collins taught us about the French culture. He showed the countries that speak French. I didn’t like french songs. I would say that the songs we listen were pretty good. Something supuise me the songs have deep meanings to it. If I would choose a song, it would be Derniere Danse.

In conclusion, I perfer English songs better than French songs.

What is a language people can all know? Music!
Today Mr.Collin has a French lesson with us today, usually I am not happy with having French class since I already have trouble with English. But today is different instead of writing worksheet we listen to music. Anyway, the music Mr.Collin was amazing I never thought of song sounding that way. And it surprise me that human can make that sound. Out of all the song Mr. Collin plays I think my favorite would be Stromae's Papaoutia, why? Don't know, I think I just like the beat.

Today, we had finally continued our lesson in French. Unlike usual, we’re focusing on French cultural this time. To gain some background knowledge, we first start off by listening to French music mv. We’re asked to choose how much we like or dislike the song based on the of personal opinions about the song. I got to say that I have zero background knowledge of French songs. Well, If I had to say one, it’ll be the “Bonjour, Bonjour, Comment Ca Va” song we did for reviewing last time. Unsurprisingly, I was shocked after watching that mv. The songs are pretty special in their own ways. I enjoyed listening to it. One of my favorite songs was called Dernière Danse by Indila. I like how it has those strong and witty senses of rhythm. Her pretty voice makes the song sounds like sovereigns. Dernière Danse would definitely be my favorite out of all. In conclusion, I think music is a great way to study other ones cultural. I would like to dig deeper on French songs in the future!

Today, Mr. Collin’s taught Div.2 about French, and what countries had large populations of people who spoke French, and we also learned about all the things that may symbolize the French community, and that was language, sports, style, clothes, architect and most of all music.

My favourite song out of all of them was probably C'est la vie.

As the class went on Mr. Collin’s played a number of French songs for the class and all of them sounded great, but C’est la vie was my favourite out of all.
And now I am listening to more French music because it is so entertaining, and the music video is so good, hope we can do more French in the future.

And finally, in a long time, we started French again! Mr. Collins taught us about French culture and their songs. I wasn't really surprised with the music because it was basically the same as English music but in a different language. Probably my favorite one of the songs was, uh... I guess papoutie as it had the best video and has some okay lyrics.
