Friday: Creativity and Innovation

I continue to be impressed by the creativity and innovative work that the Division 4 students bring to class every day. Today, Abby presented on Classification and the 5 Kingdoms. She decided to write a story and used her own artwork that she created specifically for the project, to display her learning. She used her YouTube channel as her main platform and embedded links to her story in her videos. She created a 'CHOOSE YOUR OWN' adventure style that engaged the entire class and involved student participation. This presentation was incredibly creative and I have never seen anything like it before. I will post a link to her actual presentation this coming week.

1.) MATH 6 - Complete all double digit by single digit multiplication on the worksheets you received.
You must show all your work! If you just write down your answers, you will be asked to redo your
work. Most of you have already finished this.
MATH 7 - Any assigned work.

2.) SOCIALS 6/7 - Go back to Thursday's post. If you are one of the few students who did not complete the post, make sure you get this done. In addition to this, you must read another student's post, read the article they posted, and reply to that student's post. If you have any questions, post them here.

3.) WRITE A RESPONSE: Being a reflective learner is an important part of the learning process. It is important to look back at what you've learned to see what worked and what didn't work. In addition to this, it is a good idea to think about what you will do in the future to do better next time. On Friday, you all worked on your reflections for your Science presentations in class.
a.) Your homework this weekend is to post your reflection to the science section of your websites.
b.) Then, I want you to also copy and paste your reflection here.
c.) Also, include a link to your science reflection here for easy access for all visitors.

Remember to read all of the instructions posted here carefully to ensure you have completed the assignment. Following instructions and criteria are an important aspect of learning! I'm looking forward to seeing what you learned!

Doing the project and the presentation was very good for me. What I learned was that it is best not to look at my Q cards all the time.

I also learned that old science does not mean that it is boring.

Firstly, I learned that its better to draw your pictures for your project instead of getting them off of the internet because when you take photos off of the internet you have to source the picture, so when you take the photos off of the internet it basically saying its your work when you don’t source it. Secondly,When I read my feedback I learned that I could of been louder and had more eye contact, also I could of engaged the audience by walking around and pointing to the pictures that I drew of the 5 kingdoms and asking the class some questions. Thirdly, what I would do differently is I would speak louder and have more eye contact and next time I would of gone above and beyond by making a poster and a power point. I also would of cut out my boarders more straight. I also would of engaged the Audience by asking them some questions like Are monera’s multicelluar or unicelluar? so then they would of been more engaged instead of bored. I also would of made my title more straight by accident I put the title a little crooked. Another thing I would of added is my bibliography I have my bibliography but I didn’t glue it on my poster because there wasn’t enough room on my poster I could of glued it on the back but I thought that it would look better if I just hung it on the front of the poster with clips, also I wouldn’t put tape on my project for the next project because when I put tape on my project it didn’t give it that look I thought it would look. I would improve on my spacing because it doesn’t look like I spaced it out enough. One more thing I would improve on is the examples of each kingdom because I didn’t include the examples of each kingdom in my paragraph. I think that I could of made the title bigger. Those are the things I think I could improve on!

I learned that without the 5 kingdoms we would be in a different world right now because we would not know what the different type of species are and what is poisonous and what is not also, we would not know all the different type of species and how they live in are world or there’s.i needed to be louder when I was presenting and have more eye contact more gestures and I should have been not mumbling. I will try not to be nervous and practice more and know my stuff more and make my pictures better looking.

1) The Importance of the five Kingdoms

The importance of the five kingdoms and taxonamy is so that you
know what could be good to eat or not to eat, or what speices is this?
These are just two examples of why we need the classification.
This is why we would need the classification system to keep organized
info or more knowlage of your suroundings.

2) What did I learn from the feedback?

What I think I maybe should have made a bit more hand gestures,
and to maybe not to sound bored...

3) Next time I do my presentation I will...

1) Have a bit more hand gestuers.
2) To actullay sound more interested in my subject.
3) Dont slouch and lean against the board.

What is the Grade 7 math homework?

I learned that the 5 kingdoms and taxonomy are very important to us. It's important because we wouldn't know which is which. Because all of it is just a classification system. For example, if you were to get a pet frog. You wouldn't know if it had poison in it or now without taxonomy. With the 5 kingdoms, we wouldn't know the difference between fungi and plants.

I learned from my feedback to try not to talk as fast. Since I was under time pressure I sort of rushed my presentation. But next time I will have slower voice.

I learned I am more of a tech kind of guy so I think I should have done a Prezi and now I know what I will do for ext time. Some things I will do is more eye contact because I was told that I was looking at my poster a lot secondly is I need to know my knowledge and study the Kingdoms so I can say and present with ease. Next time I will also follow the criteria.

For next time I am going to work on my eye contact because I look at my cards too much and not a noffe at the students. I am going to work on my hand gestures I didn’t have those in my presentation. I am going to work on moving around the room I just stood there like a rock. What I learned that if we didn’t have it we couldn’t survive and we could get sick more by touching a posenise snakes and plants and other things. I am going to work on a lot is memorising my info and being a little louder. And last but not least is work on engagene the students. Some of the presentations were so fun I would do it again.

From doing this project I learned all about the five kingdoms. I learned how to make powerpoints and how people organize things in the world I learned about latin names of certain animals plants etc. I learned a little bit about prezi, I learned about pixlr and all of that sort of stuff. I learned from the feedback that I am pretty good at speaking or presenting but could do more movement and use more expressions and gestures. I also learned that I am not the best at remembering my stuff and end up reading word for word. Some things I would improve on are..... only having the important information in my project, make gestures and move around more, not read my info word for word, and making sure I am 100% ready for my project going into it.

FIVE KINGDOMS PROJECT REFLECTIONS
Firstly i learned that the five kingdoms are everywhere and that every living organism is put into a group. And every organism has either 1 or more cells. I learned that i need to speak louder when i do my presentation also i have to make more eye contact with the class. I will speak a lot louder and make more eye contact also for my poster i will cut one in half and make it so if has a cover so i can put more pictures and information on. And i will put more designs on my poster and make more hand gestures and examples when i am talking in my presentation. Also i will try to be more relaxed when i am talking so i do not stumble as much and talk a little bit more clearly.

What I learned about The Five Kingdoms
I learned...
1. All about the characteristics, similairities and diffferences about all five kingdoms.
2. what the five kingdoms are, their names and the importance of them.
3. Every living thing goes in one of the five kingdoms.
4. autotrophs and heterotrophs.
5. unicellular and multicellular.
6. a bit more about the different types of technology that I used: Photoshop, InDesign, Camara, Vectors.

1. To look at them more.
2. to move around more.

1. Move around more.

1) I firstly learned all about the 5 Kingdoms, Monera, Protist, Fungi, Plant, and Animal. Secondly, I found there was a 6th Kingdom, Archaebacteria. Thirdly, I learned about Taxonomy and what it is with that guy in the YouTube video. I learned how to do the Bibliography and how you do the format.
2) I learned from the Feedback to use more hand gestures and speak more louder. I also need eye contact. Some people also said that it wasn’t in our own words and we had too much information.
3) I will speak louder, use more expressions and use hand gestures. I will also prepare and try not to be too nervous. I will also use more eye contact, not looking at my cards or presentation, but the audience. I will also work with a partner I can greatly cooperate with, and change the words or summarize it. I felt like my partner, Colby didn’t do much of the actual PowerPoint, but when we presented it, I think that he earned us some marks. So, I will try to do better next time.

I learned how to use the updated prezi.

From the feedback i noticed that I have to do more eye contact, put a little more information in my project, more hand gestures, and not to mumble so much.

next time i will look up more often instead of staring down at my cue cards because i noticed i was doing that a bit too much because i was very nervous. Also my peers said I didn’t put enough info in my project so next time I will get as many people as i can to give me suggestions such as, family members, friends, teacher, and so on. Another thing my peers noticed is that i wasn’t doing much hand gestures such as pointing at the thing i was talking about, moving my hands in a motion that explains what i’m talking about. Lastly I noticed that I was stumbling on a few words such as, Protista, unicellular, and multicellular.

I learned that if we do not have a classification system, we will not know what is safe or dangerous. The 5 kingdoms are to classify living things into categories. For example if someone said “Get me a bacteria from the Monera Kingdom”, you would not know what to do.
From the feedback that others gave to me, I learned that I had to move around more and be more engaging with the audience. So, next time I will make sure I move around during my presentation and ask the audience which kingdom I should talk about.

Reflections:

Q1. What did you learn about the importance of classification and the Five Kingdoms?

Q3. What will you do differently next time?

A1. Firstly, I learned that Taxonomy is important to know in any situation you are in. For example, you could be on a camping field trip, and you see a strange looking leaf. Then, it turns out to be poison Ivy. So you could see how that would be a problem. Secondly, I learned that the importance of knowing what the Five Kingdoms is a great skill to use in the future. To support this sentence, my older sister had said she had done a Five Kingdoms project in high school that went deeper into each kingdom. So, I feel that it was great to learn about it now, because it will be easier if we learn about it sometime in the future. Lastly, I learned that is important to know how to classify living organisms because you may want a certain job like a Biologist that will require you to know how to classify different organisms. But not necessarily to classify them into the different kingdoms, or the future kingdoms that may come.

A2. Firstly, I have learned that I should have moved around a little bit more. Although I wanted to, I couldn’t really so much because I would have either gone off the camera’s view, I would have gotten in the way of my poster, or I would have gotten in the way of my SlideRocket presentation. But, I will try to move around more next time. Secondly, I learned that I had used a lot of hand gestures, and expression in my voice! Lastly, I learned that I was creative in my presentation!
(I never really got feedback other than moving around a little more, so I’m happy!)

A3. Firstly, I think if I had to change anything about my presentation, I would have tried to include even more information in the presentation. Although, since we were on a time crunch, I tried to summarize it as much as I could. On that note, I got pretty nervous when everyone started coming into the class, like Mrs.Jensen, although it helped me try even better because I knew that our principal was watching! Secondly, I would try to include Latin names for examples like “Mushrooms.” Actually, I had written down the latin names somewhere, but then I thought we didn’t need to include it after I read the criteria. Although, you were allowed to, that just meant you went above and beyond, so it was a silly mistake. Lastly, I would have tried to include most of the class in my presentation. Originally, I was going to do this “Q and A” session with the class, but in the end I didn’t. Almost halfway through my presentation there was this question I had asked, but I guess they didn’t know I was asking them so I quickly answered it. In the end, I did have a little “Q and A” section on my poster, so if they wanted to participate, they could have!

Overall, I would do a similar presentation again, and I really hope to get the opportunity to use SlideRocket again! (Fun project!)

@ Sandy - You have become a very reflective learner and are taking ownership of your learning. I am pleased to see you trying new things with your learning. The creativity that you showed on your project was unbelievable and it makes me very proud to be your teacher! In addition to this, I have to comment on your writing. It continues to improve. One thing that you may want to try in the future is mixing up your transition words. Instead of using firstly, secondly, etc, try to use ones you have never used or don't use very often. Keep up the good work!

Firstly I learned that sometimes its ok to look at the cards or prezontation but that memorization is best because then, it shows that you really know your info and also, I think that I could use more hand jestures and let the plant question be awnsered, lastly I should have more excitement in my prezontation because than it dosen makeyou look like your justdoing it for the sake of doing it. The importance of the 5 kingdoms that I learned. Well I learned a lot of stuff but I will just tell you the sum of the info and stuff I learned.

Well I learned that the 5 kingdoms in all are good for organizam so for being on track of your topic. And be way more organized.

I learned that the 5 kingdoms are important in every things like medicine and pets and and just living because someone had figure out that wood was a good building matirial and that all those fruits and vegetables and meat were safe to eat. Next time I would speak louder and use more hand gestures and maybe walk around more, as suggested by the feedback given.

Question 1: I learned that there was an actual system to classify every living organism. I did further research on why we have the five living kingdoms because I didn’t really understand that. Anyway it seems that it is very important because, it not only helps scientists with things but us too.

Question 2: I learned that I have to talk more slower. I personally didn’t know I talked that fast, so I’m very grateful to have peer feedback because next time I know that I need to slow down a little. Another thing that I learned was that, I should engage with the audience more and point at pictures so the audience has a better understanding. Lastly, I myself think next time I should be confident in myself, and not worry so much if I mess up.

Question 3: Like I said in question two, next time I will be more confident and talk slower.

From doing the five kingdoms I learned how that it is vital to classify organisms not only to keep us organized but also to keep us aware of our surrounding and what lives there, like there is a new species that was discovered it’s called tartigrades and without classification we wouldn’t know if it’s a harmful organism or not. From the feedback that I got from my presentation I learned that I should work on my gestures and voice level. Next time I will try to look at the audience more of the time, I will speak louder and try to use gestures, and engage the audience more.

I learned that presentations can be presented in many ways. For example, you might make a graph which is interactive or a flow chart, maybe even a power point. I did a poster, many things I learned making my poster was how to link things together like chains. Linking is very difficult but very impressive that someone my age can do it at all. Drawing pictures were easy from me the fact that I normally do regular sketches but drawing links in a compressed spaces is so difficult.
