Friday: Report Cards

3/9/2013

Today, all students had 1-on-1 conferences with Mr. Hong to discuss their progress in term 2. Many students had successful terms. Students discussed their strengths and also how to improve in different subject areas.

1.) MATH 6: Complete scale/ratio diagrams. Be sure to pixelate them.
MATH 7: Any assigned work.

2.) WRITE A RESPONSE #1:

From the comments you received on your report card, the 1-on-1 conference you had with Mr. Hong, and the ongoing feedback you have received, what will you do (specifically) to improve next term? (IE If you want to improve in Math, how will you do that? For example, you could say, " I will practice my multiplication tables every day at a specific time - BE SPECIFIC).

I will try updating my website more often so that I can beifit from learning more. Also, I will develop better technolagy skills. Next, I will try harder and study even harder for tests like math because there is no more room for silly mistakes when we will be entering high school soon enough. Lastly, I will try to post earlier on the class website and do my homework earlier that way I'm more efficient. Additionally, I will have extra time to do my homework with great quality.
I'm really happy with my report card this term! :)

@ Sandy - What is the most important part of the learning process for you? Knowing learning intentions before starting your work? The self/peer assessment process? Receiving quality feedback?

I think the most important part of the learning process is receiving quality feedback (Mainly from assessments). I would choose really all of the above but I think that this is the most important to me. I like the fact that I can do my work the way I want, then having others give me feedback and assessment on what I could do to improve next time. This helps me because while I read the feedback, I reflect on my learning at the same time. The constructive criticism that I receive makes me a better learner because I remember all the tips I should use/watch out for while in the making of the project the next time.

@ Juliette - Do you feel responding to other people's comments on the website and other blogs will deepen your understanding of the topics being discussed? Do you feel engaging your classmates more with quality questions will help them and you gain a better understanding of the topics? Please explain. :)

I am going to be more active on the website and instead of twice a day I will try to go on three times a day and always try to respond. Also, I will work on my website saying i have not updated it in a while. And lastly, I am going to improve my grades by overall putting more effort into my work and improving not just staying the same grade.

The 3 things I will do next time are..

1) Communicate on the website more.

2) I will need to work harder to get good grades on Math tests.

3) I will also make sure i bring my PE strip all the time to get marks.

Next term I will try even harder in math. I am going to do this by studying harder for tests, making sure that I get the homework and what we are doing, and lastly I will practice multiplication, division, and any thing we are doing. The second thing I will do to improve is be more interactive and what I mean by this is I am too quiet and I should speak more in class discussions and online. I will make sure that I post some feedback to my class mates on the website and I will speak what I think in class discussions. Lastly, I will post more often on my website. To make sure I have done that I will post something every week or so.

1.) To get better grades on my math test. By not just studying at the last minute and study threw out the week.
2.) To be more active on the website. By giving feedback and asking questions on people's comments.

I got 5 A's and 3 B's and the B's were in:

1. Math: I will improve in math by reading the questions carefully in tests and remembering to add things that make the questions right.
2. P.E.: I will improve in P.E. by remembering my gym strip.
3. French: I will improve in my french by putting my hand up to answer more questions and by trying to memorize some french at home.

Firstly, looking at my report card I would like to work on my math tests. I know that math is one of my difficulties in school, specifically the tests. I think the main reason why I don't do as well on math tests is because I don't have confidence in myself and I get really nervous. So to be confident this term, I will fully understand each chapter before moving on. The second thing that I need to work on is updating my website more often. I don't exactly enjoy doing this but if I make this a habit, I'm sure it won't be a problem.

@ Gaia - I also suggest that you read instructions very carefully before completing all of your assignments. Knowing the criteria for your assignments is very important.

Firstly, I will do better in Math because I will study harder after dinner for 15 minutes everyday, also I will do my homework right when I get home so I will not forget about my work sheet/text book. Lastly I will try to blog more on the website, if I see someone do a mistake on the website I will inform them about it/start posting more often, also I will put more effort into my responses, for example I will be specific about my responses like if I were to talk about being specific I would say what I should be more specific about.

Some of my grades went down so I think I can work on studying more for that.

I got all A's and 1 B, so since I got a B in language arts, here are some examples of what I will do to improve:

1. I will try to fit in time to post regularly on my website and try to change it up every once in a while. In order to do that, I will decide to post something new on my website every Tuesday after school, Thursday after dance, and friday(unless I have any other plans).

2. I will try to give other people feed back on this website. In order to do that, I will post my response then come back to the website after I come home from dance.

3. Last but not least, I will try to use more transition words in my writing. Instead of just using "first, Secound, third" etc... In order to do that I will have the transition word website up in another tab while I am posting my response or writing!

I didn't get my report card because I was in Seattle for a dance competition. So I will say what I will improve on my first term marks.

I got all A's except one __ in art.
Next time, to improve my marks, I will spend more time with my art. I will do this because if I slow down and pay attention to detail I will do better. Also, I will think before I do something. I will do this because if I think it through the art will come out better. Lastly, I will try harder. I will do this because if I try my best it will come out the best I can.

what i want to improve my grades on are my grades in French. I will try to speak more often in french and try to engage in class discussions. I will engage in class discussions by raising my hand up, asking questions and leaving comments. I will practice french by reading through my work and practice pronouncing the words properly.

I'll do my work more, because obviously if you don't do every single thing the system asks then they hold you back from doing things and then go ahead and let all the other kids have fun, and they hold you back because they care about your happiness they just care about how good their report cards look.
