Today, you continued putting the final touches on your research for your belief systems project. Tomorrow, many of you will start creating your presentations. Although some of you may not start on your presentations tomorrow, I have faith you will all complete the bulk of your research. You have had plenty of time. You are aware of the criteria and have a rubric that you have been following closely. Remember, this is the only way to achieve success.

Use your time wisely. Finish up your research.
You will start working on your presentations tomorrow.
Some of you may learn that you do not have enough details in your research as you work on your presentations.
Of course, adding more details to your research as you work on your presentations is totally acceptable.
Feel free to post any questions here or you can email me directly.

2.) POST A RESPONSE:

Watch this video on an 'Introduction to Buddhism'.
Based on this video, write a paragraph about Buddhism. (hook, supporting sentences, and conclusion)
Make sure you explain using evidence/support from the video.
Your paragraph should be able to clearly explain what Buddhism is to someone who knows nothing about it.
REQUIRED BY EVERYONE: Ask at least one student about their post.

Buddhism as grown to be a major world religion since it's founding by Siddarth Gautama, also known as the Bhudda, in the 5th and 6th centuries. It now has over 300 million followers. Buddhism is a transnational religion which means there are buddhists all around the world. Buddhism starts with the story of Prince Siddhartha. He was born Nepal two thousand five hundred years ago. Right after his birth a great sage told his father that he would be a great Emperor or a great spiritual teacher. His father, the king, was sure that he was going to be a great Emperor. To protect him from suffering and world misery, the king vowed to shield is son. He was kept in his palace at all times where he lived luxuriously. The Prince was so sneaky that at the age of thirty he snuck out of the palace. For the very first time he saw human suffering so he vowed not to return to the palace. He would only return when he had solved the problem. He spent the next six years in India. He went through forests and then when he came to a tree he vowed to meditate under that tree until he became enlightened. He became enlightened forty-nine days later. He was then known as the Buddha which meant 'The one who as awakened' in Sanskrit. The Buddha taught that we create our own suffering and the path out of suffering and we suffer because we crave. The way not to suffer is to recognize that everything is impermanent and to recognize the transitory nature of all things. That is what Buddha had said. All in all, this means that Buddhism is a self empowering religion because they don't need to worship any deity in particular.

Buddhism is a religion about stopping suffering and achieving happiness. It's different because it doesn't focus on a god but it focuses on how you can stop your suffering. It started when Prince Siddhartha was born and a great sage told his father, the king, that Siddhartha would either be a great emperor or a great spiritual teacher. The king wanted him to be a great emperor so he shielded him from the suffering of the world and made him stay in the palace walls. He lived a life of luxury and happiness. But when he was 30, he sneaked out the palace walls and saw human suffering. He pledged to not go back to the palace until he had solved the problem. So he walked around and found a tree. He sat under the tree and meditated for 49 days until he became spiritually aware (Ummm, that doesn't make sense to me but okay, sure) and when he became spiritually aware, he awoke and was called the Buddha. Which means the one who has awakened in Sanskrit. He taught everyone that we desire because we think things are permanent when they're not. He says the way to not suffer is to realize that everything isn't permanent.

@ Andrew - Thank you for your thoughtful post! I think what they meant by 'spiritually aware' is that he became very aware what was important to him and life in general. He likely didn't place an importance on material things and placed a greater importance on family, nature, living life to the fullest, being kind to others, etc.

Buddhism is the 4th largest religion and its a transnational religion that means people are Buddhism all around the world. Most Buddhism people would think of themselves of belonging 1 of 3 schools of Buddhism and they are Theravada Buddhism, Mahayana Buddhism, and Vajrayana Buddhism. This religion started with Prince Siddhartha who's father wanted him to be a great Emperor but after Siddhartha so people suffering he wondered threw forests trying to find truth and meditated until he was lightened and when he was people called him the Buddha. Also he said that everyone is lightened but we need to recognize it.

When you see a problem in the world, would you just ignore it or would you try to make a difference to change the world? For the prince Siddarth Gautama, it was his actions to better improve the world and to get rid of all pain and suffering that made a new religion, called Buddhism, around 2500 years ago. The prince was destined to either be a great emperor or spiritual teacher. His father was determined that he would be an emperor, so he kept his son locked away inside the palace where he lived a life of luxury. But when Siddarth snuck out and saw the suffering outside of the palace walls, he vowed to never come back until he made a change to the world. On his spiritual path, he found enlightenment and wanted to share it with the rest of the world. He created a moral code for all his followers so they too could reach the enlighten might that he himself had discovered. The moral code consists of something called "The Four Noble Truths" which are:
1. Life is suffering
2. Suffering is due to attachment to things
3. Attachment can be overcome
4. There is a path to accomplishing all of this
The path that is referred to here is the "Eight Fold Path" which shows someone the 'right' way of life. Buddhism is not based around the idea of God but instead man. It is about reaching happiness in life through your actions and also reaching enlightenment. When someone reaches enlightenment, they go to Nirvana, which is a kind of Heaven. But until then they will be reincarnated and have the chance to live another life. Now with as many as 500 million followers, Buddhism is the 4th largest religion in the world. A lot of word spread about Siddharth's teachings and the religion did not only spread through India but internationally. This religion has been the most fascinating for me to learn about because it is very different from the ones I would normally learn about and I find it to be very interesting.

They all think of themselves as one of these schools. Theravada, Mahayana and Vajrayana. The princes were all protected in their palace until one snuck out and saw a human suffering. He said that he wasn't going to return to the palace until he solved the problem. Over the next few years he was wandering in the forest wandering for truth until he finally came across to a tree in Northern India. He vowed to sit under the tree to meditate. 49 days later, he became enlightened and became what was known as the buddha. The buddha tought that us that we create our own suffering and the path out of suffering out of us.

Buddhism is an interesting approach on religion,because it is not based around a god,but it is based on a way of life. It is about a dude who wanted to end human suffering. Budhists' goal is to realize that we reached a "state of mind",called enlightened. That is all I have to say on buddhism.

I also think that maybe there are some things that you haven't covered, and you should check everything over just for a few grammar errors (eg.- always space after a comma, and instead of "Budhists' goal", write "Buddhists try to" (you spelled "buddhist" wrong))

I've noticed that some religions seem to be common in only some parts of the world. It's rare, and almost unusual for a religion to have expanded throughout the whole world. This is something that I found to be pretty interesting about Buddhism. This religion has spread through the world. Like many other religions, this religion has taken much time to develop fully, and has an interesting history and past. It started around 2,500 years ago, when Prince Siddhartha was born. A great Sage told his father, the Emperor, that Prince Siddhartha would either be an amazing emperor, or an astounding spiritual teacher. The Emperor wanted his son to become the next emperor, so he shielded his son from all the ugly parts of humanity. At the age of 30, Prince Siddhartha snuck out of the palace and finally saw, for the first time, the horrible conditions people had to live in. He vowed to never return to the palace until he could find a solution to end everyone's suffering. He then wandered around India looking for solutions, until he found a tree and decided to sit under it until he could think of something. After 49 days, he finally thought of something. When he awoke he was known as "The Buddha", which means "the one who has awaken". This religion is really unique, because it doesn't revolve around any supernatural being, but instead around man itself. From then on, Buddha taught many lessons about our suffering and how we think. He said that the only way to end our suffering is to realize that nothing's permanent, and that anything can be changed. Because this religion isn't about a god of any sort, Buddhists can empower themselves and see themselves from a humanly perspective. These are some powerful words, that just show how different every religion is.

Do you know of any religion that is based on human? Buddhism is the religion about knowing yourself. Buddhism is the fourth largest religion in the world and there are Buddhists all over the world. Have you ever heard of Buddhism? You probably have since it's the fourth largest religion in the world. Just like religions like Islam, it's a transnational religion which means that there are Buddhists all around the world. Around the world, there are different types of Buddhism. These are Theravada, which is the most ancient form of Buddhism, Mahayana, and Vajrayana. Theravada Buddhism can be found in South/Southeast Asia, Mahayana Buddhism can be found in East Asia, and finally, Vajrayana Buddhism can be found in Tibet and Mongolia. While Buddhism is a lot like some religions, it is different in the sense that it's not just based on one god. Instead, it's based on ourselves. It revolves around the belief that we create and can end our own suffering. We can stop suffering by changing our perception of ourselves in our world. Buddha taught that we suffer because we crave, are focused on ego, and because we make assumptions that things are permanent when in reality, they aren't. Once we change our perceptions of ourselves in our world, we can achieve Nirvana (no, not the band). Buddha teaches that we already have this inside of ourselves and we just need to find it. Now that we know some of the basics of Buddhism, where did Buddhism come from? Well, it all started with the story of Prince Siddhartha who was born 2,500 years ago in present-day Nepal. When Prince Siddhartha was young, a Sage came down from the mountain and told his father that Prince Siddhartha would be a great Emperor or spiritual teacher. His father believed this and was determined for it to happen so he kept his son inside the palace shielding him from all of the human sufferings. While in the palace, Prince Siddhartha lived a life of luxury. One day, when he was 30 years old, he snuck out of the palace. For the first time, he saw the suffering that people faced and vowed to never come back to the palace until he solved the problem of human suffering. For the next six years of his life, he spent time wandering the forests until he found a tree. He vowed to sit under that single tree and meditate until he became enlightened. 49 days passed and he became enlightened. After that, he was known as "The Buddha" which means "The one who has awakened". So yeah, that's pretty much Buddhism summed up very shortly.

Buddhism is very different to all of the other religion. This religion has a different concept. There are 3 major types: Theravada, Mahayana and Vijayanagar. Theravada Buddhism exists in Southeast asia, Mahayana can be found in East Asia and Vijayanagar can be found in Tibet and Mongolia. Buddhism started from Prince Siddhartha. When he was born, a great sage told his father that he was going to be a great emperor or a great spiritual teacher. The king vowed he would be a great emperor so he kept the prince inside the palace walls and away from all the misery. The prince lived a life of luxury but when he was 30, he snuck outside of the palace walls and he finally found human suffer. Then he vowed that he would not go back inside the palace walls until he solved the problem. I am a Buddhist so I know a little more about this. On his journey of finding his answer, he tried giving people money, food and more but when he thought about it, he knew it was only that one time it was going to help them. Have you ever heard of the saying "Give a man a fish and feed him for a day, teach someone to fish and feed him for a lifetime" This is basically what Buddhism is. Without just helping someone from their problems, you teach them how they can help themselves out of the problem. Then he found a tree in India and sat there for 49 days and became enlightened or became the Buddha. Everything we do is created by us which means we can all get out or stop the suffering.

Before when I thought of religions, I would always think of people worshipping some sort of divine being. I didn’t know that self-empowering religions like Buddhism exist, so I find Buddhism quite interesting. Buddhism is the fourth largest religion in the world. There are 3 main groups in Buddhism, Theravada Buddhism, Mahayana Buddhism, and Vajrayana Buddhism. The group of Buddhism depends on the location in the world, as Buddhism is a transnational religion. Buddhism has an interesting backstory, that starts 2500 years ago, when Prince Siddhartha was born. Supposedly a great sage came to visit the Prince’s father, and told him that his son would either be a great emperor, or great spiritual teacher. The King decided that he did not want his son to be a spiritual teacher, he wanted his son to be an emperor. So, The king kept his son locked in the palace so he would not be exposed to all the suffering in the world. When he was thirty, the prince managed to sneak out, and he finally saw the way that all the humans were suffering. The prince would not allow himself to return to the palace until he had managed to help everyone. He spent six years searching for the truth, and eventually he found a tree which he sat under for 49 days until he became enlightened. After that he was known as the Buddha and he taught people that we were the ones causing our own suffering with our egos and our craving. Thus, the morals of Buddhism were created. In my opinion this is the most interesting religion I’ve learned about so far. I hoped you all managed to learn something interesting too.

Religions all seem similar, they have a god, they pray and etc. But, Buddhism stands out quite a bit. Buddhism is a religion that revolves around humans. Which is quite interesting because you don't see a lot of religions that revolve around humans. It;s usually a god of some sort. Buddhism started when a prince was born in Nepal 2500 years ago. His name was Siddhartha. When when he was born a Sage came down and said to his father that he would either be a great emperor or spiritual teacher. Of course his father wanted him to be a great emperor so he basically locked his son in the palace where he lived a luxurious life. But, one day the Prince decided he would sneak out of the palace and see the world behind these walls. When he came out he saw people suffering and he wanted to change that. He made a decision not to return to the palace until it was fixed. For the next 6 years of his life he was finding a tree. To me that sounds like a complete waste of time but who am I to judge he's trying to end human suffering. Basically he meditated underneath the tree for 49 days until he was enlightened. After what he did he was called "The Buddha" which means "the one who is awakened". Pretty fitting name for a man who meditated underneath a tree for 49 days. Now Buddhist believe that we create our suffering and end it. They say we can stop suffering by changing our way of seeing ourselves. They teach people that people suffer because we focus on our egos and think things are permanent when they aren't. Once we pass all this they say we can reach Nirvana which is when there is neither suffering, desires, nor sense of self and the person is then released from the death cycle and karma. It's basically paradise . I think Buddhism had a huge impact on the world and it's certainly one of the more interesting religions to research about. Hope you learned something new today.

Religions eh? ever heard of the one Buddhism? I'll tell you about it. did you know that Buddhism is the 4th largest religion in the world. want to learn more? The founder of Buddhism was Buddha Shakyamuni who lived and taught in India some two and a half thousand years ago. Since then millions of people around the world have followed the pure spiritual path he revealed. The Buddhist way of life of peace, loving kindness and wisdom is just as relevant today as it was in ancient India. Buddha explained that all our problems and suffering arise from confused and negative states of mind, and that all our happiness and good fortune arise from peaceful and positive states of mind. He taught methods for gradually overcoming our negative minds such as anger, jealousy and ignorance, and developing our positive minds such as love, compassion and wisdom. Through this we will come to experience lasting peace and happiness. These methods work for anyone, in any country, in any age. Once we have gained experience of them for ourselves we can pass them on to others so they too can enjoy the same benefits. now do you get what Buddhism is?

Buddhism is a religion that you can find around the world because it's a transnational religion. It's also the fourth largest religion in the world. In Buddhism they separate themselves into three groups, Theravada in South and South East Asia , Mahayana in East Asia ,Vajrayana in Tibet Mongolia. But the whole entire Buddhism thing starts from a story about prince Siddhartha. He lived in Nepal during the 6th to 4th century. His father was the kung of the tribe his other died seven days after she gave birth to him which is very unfortunate. But then a holy man came and told Siddhartha that he would have great things like being a great military leader or a spiritual leader. But the father really wanted him to be one of those so hewas protecting him from miseries and suffering he decided to build a castle for him. Just for him.One night, Siddhartha sat under the Bodhi tree, vowing to not get up until the truths came to him, and he meditated until the sun came up the next day. He sat there for several days, purifying his mind, seeing his entire life, and previous lives, in his thoughts. During this time, he had to overcome the threats of Mara, an evil demon, who challenged his right to become the Buddha. When Mara attempted to claim the state as his own, Siddhartha touched his hand to the ground and asked the Earth to bear witness, which it did and made Mara dissapear. And soon a picture began to form in his mind of all that occurred in the universe, and Siddhartha finally saw the answer to the questions of suffering that he had been seeking for so many years. In that moment of pure enlightenment, Siddhartha Gautama became the Buddha ("he who is awake").

Most religions in the world are focused on some type of deity. There aren’t many religions that focus on yourself. This is what makes Buddhism unique. Who was Prince Siddhartha Gautama? What did he do? Prince Siddhartha Gautama (also known as Buddha), was the founder of Buddhism. His journey began in Nepel around 2500 years ago. Siddhartha’s dad (the king) was told by a sage that his son will either be a great emperor or a great spiritual teacher. The king wanted to make sure that his son will be a great emperor, so he pledged that he’ll protect his son. He did that by keeping Siddhartha inside the palace walls from the pain and misery outside from his kingdom. Siddhartha lived a great luxurious life but he was ignorant of the suffering people faced. Assuming that it was out of curiosity, when Siddhartha was 30, he snuck outside the kingdom walls and saw the suffering people faced. Siddhartha pledged that he’ll not return until people don’t have to suffer anymore. Just like he said, Siddhartha did not return to his palace. He spent 6 years wandering around forests until he’ll find the truth. Siddhartha found a tree where he meditated for 49 days to be enlightened. When he woke up from his meditation, he was given the name ‘Buddha’, meaning ‘The One Who Has Awakened’. Buddha ended up being a great spiritual teacher by telling people that we suffer because of the things we do. It is the decisions we make that changes our future. But nothing is permanent. If we realize that (according to Buddha), we can go to nirvana (paradise/heaven). Overall, I think that Buddha was a great man. He did great things for his people and was a great spiritual teacher.

Buddhism is the fourth largest religion in the world. It is a transnational religion, meaning that we can find Buddhists in many countries in the world. Buddhism is different from other religions because it is not orientated around god but around a man. Buddhists, because their focus isn’t on god, we can change ourselves to become enlightened. What Buddha taught us was that we create our own suffering and the path out of suffering lyes with us. For Buddha, the way not to suffer is to recognize that everything is impermanent not permanent, even ourselves. Overall, I think that Buddhism is an interesting religion to know about. I also think that Buddha was a thoughtful and kind man.

Yesterday PAR, we talked about Christianity, now we should know a lot about it. Today, we will be talking about Buddhism, let me tell you more about it, and you will be more interested in it. Buddhism is the fourth largest religion in the world and it also has 488 million followers. Buddhism was actually founded in India about 2,500 years ago, and it is also a really important religion to Indian. I found out that the Indian culture and the way of life were affect by Buddhism. Now, let's talked about what they believe in. They don't really have a god but they do believe that nothing is fixed or permanent and that change is always possible. The Buddha also taught Five Precepts for everyday life like do not harm any living creature,Do not steal, and be generous in giving; Do not take more than you need; Do not lie; Do not act thoughtlessly. The practices that they do, the first thing is veneration of the Buddha. They do it because that show respect for the Buddha. They also give some gift to Buddha,o and I found out that it is because it means practicing the teachings of the Buddha, they will do it until they can get some skill. They also did give some fruits and candles, it is also a part of the practice that they do. Buddhism plays a very important role in China because a lot of people believe in it. Buddhism is a transnational religion and China is one of the religions that were mainly Buddhism. Most Buddhist will think of them as one of the three schools Theravada buddhism, Mahayana buddhism or Vajrayana buddhism. The origin of Buddhism is said to be originated from prince Siddhartha. One day a saint said that his son will either be a great emperor or he would be a great spirit teacher. His dad determined that he will be a great emperor gave him all the comfort and luxury that he wanted, but one day he sneaked out of the palace and saw the real world. He decided he won't go back until the problem is solved. He walked around and meditated under a tree for 49 days and enlightened. After that day he is called the "Buddha" which means "The one who has awakened" The Goal for all buddhist is to "awake" Which is different than most other religions. Well... The fourth largest religion worldwide, mainly located in China. Buddhism is a religion with 376 million believers. I'm half buddhism too. I'll just share some connections when I actually went to these places and experienced what buddhist do everyday for their religion.
Buddhist pray for many gods, there's no one specific god that they pray for. When you go into a temple, there are always one to five gods in the front, and many others around the temple, so when you walk around you can see every god. There's a story behind every statue, my mom always talk about these stories but I can barely remember any now.

Being the fourth largest religion in the world, Buddhism has 376 million followers. It's a multi-cultured religion where many other people believe in it. The weird thing is, Buddhism isn't revolving around one god, but particularly, men. Buddhists believe that they control their way of living. They believe that they create their own paths. Their paths of suffering and also their paths out of suffering, as the video stated. The Buddha taught us that not everything is permanent, and could be changed when we see things a different way. The path you choose is not permanent, and even you aren't permanent. That's the nature of all things. Once you realize that everything is changeable, you will find your path to Nirvana. Buddhists think that they're already enlightened themselves, and that they just have to realize that by them self over time and patience. Buddhism is a religion where you empower yourself over trust. They don't really believe a god as they only have to believe themselves. Being half Buddhist, I feel like this religion is an amazing one. You don't have to worship someone else to gain something. All you have to do is believe in yourself and that anything could change with a different perspective.

Buddhism is a transnational religion, China has a large population of Buddhists. Buddhists don't practice anything, other than meditating, contemplation and introspection. (I think) They believe that they can control the ways of their life, control their paths of suffering and making their way out of there. They are oriented by men and not by any Gods. Not everything is permanent in life so you'll be able to change that. Buddhists pray for different God's, but not one specifically or particularly. Buddha means "the one who has awakened", when Prince Siddhartha meditated for 49 days wanting to solve the suffering for his people. He was known as Buddha after the wait. Buddha seemed like a really genuine prince who cared about his people.

Majority of the religions are similar. They worship a deity or deities. If you’re curious, deity means a god or goddess. Buddhism is different because Buddhists revolve around humans. When Prince Siddhartha was born a great Sage came down from the mountain to tell Prince Siddhartha’s father, the King, that he would either be a great ruler, or a great spiritual teacher. The King wanted his son to be a great ruler so much he vowed to shield his son from human suffering and misery of the world. He proceeded to keep his son within the palace walls and let him live in luxury keeping him away from human suffering and misery. When the Prince was 30 years old he snuck outside of the palace walls and saw for the first time ever, human suffering and what the real world looks like. Then he vowed to himself never to return to the palace until this great problem was solved. In India the Prince spent the next 6 years wandering through forests trying to find truth. Then he finally came across a tree in Northern India and he vowed to sit under that tree in meditation until he became enlightened. Then, 49 days later he became enlightened. He then earned the title of the Buddha. In Sanskrit it means “The one who has awakened”. Buddhism is different than most religions, the religion is not based around a god it is based around man itself. What Buddha taught is that we create our own suffering, yet, we have the path out of it. Buddha taught we suffer because of craving, our ego’s, and assuming everything is permanent when in reality it isn’t. The way to stop the suffering is to realize that everything including ourselves is not permanent. Some people pick Buddhism because they don’t have to focus on any god or worship them.

When you think about religion, what's the first thing that you thought? Let me guess, it's god. Well, the fourth largest religion, Buddhism, doesn't have a god. It revolves around humans. Here's the origin of Buddhism.

Buddhism is a religion that is founded by Siddhartha Gautama. Buddhism's message teaches people how to end their suffering by eliminating their greed, hatred, and ignorance. In other words, it tells us bad actions come with consequences; karma. In addition to that, Buddhism states that good actions would come back with good things.

Siddhartha Gautama is a man who was born in Nepal, South Asia. Siddhartha Gautama lived from 563 BC to 483 BC; Siddhartha Gautama lived to be 80. Siddhartha Gautama had a father named Suddodana Tharu and a mother named Maya Devi. A seer (A person who can predict the future.) told Suddodana Tharu that keeping his son in his palace for his entire life would result in him being a great king. The seer also added that if he let his son out of his palace, he would become a great religious leader. Suddodana Tharu didn’t want Siddhartha to be a religious leader, so he kept Siddhartha inside his palace.

When Siddhartha was 16, his father brought a woman named “Yashodhara” for Siddhartha to marry. Siddhartha married the woman and together they had a son named “Rahul.” However, although Siddhartha had everything he’d ever wanted, he wasn’t happy; He wanted to learn the meaning of his existence and life.

Siddhartha got out of his father's palace, breaking his father's rules, and saw the "Four Passing Sights" The four sights were: An old man, a very ill and helpless man, a dead man, and a homeless holy man. These sights made him attempt to find the cause of old age, illness, and death. During his search, he would leave behind everything; from love to his palace. He left his palace in a stormy night.

Siddhartha decided to act like a holy man to seek answers. At that time, holy men put their body through pain as to help their spiritual being. They also refused to do things they enjoyed to eliminate their desires. Siddharth was good at these things, even better than his own teachers. However, he failed to receive an answer. In response, he went even further by enforcing his body with even more pain. He used a series of punishments such as only eating six grams of rice every day, or holding his breath. In result, he looked like a skeleton with skin; nearly dying. However, there was still no response.

Siddhartha began to think and he thought there was a better way than hurting himself. He decided he meditate under a tree, and that’s what he did. He found a fig tree (Modernly known as the “Bodhi tree”) and began to meditate. He promised himself he wouldn’t stop meditating until he found “enlightenment” (The meaning of life.) It took him 49 days of meditating before he became enlightenment. When the Buddha became enlightened, he immediately knew the answer to suffering, and he knew how to defeat it. He called the answer the “Four Noble Truths” He decided to spread his teachings with the world. He first traveled to a small town called “Sarnath” and later continued to different towns to spread the word of his teachings.

Buddhism ( In my opinion) has a very interstinginteresting background. Around 2500 years ago, the prince was destined to either be a great emperor or spiritual teacher. His father was determined that he would be an emperor, so he kept his son locked away inside the palace where he lived a life of luxury. But when Siddarth snuck out and saw the suffering outside of the palace walls, he vowed to never come back until he made a change to the world. On his spiritual path, he found enlightenment and wanted to share it with the rest of the world. He created a moral code for all his followers so they too could reach the enlighten might that he himself had discovered. The moral code consists of something called "The Four Noble Truths" which are: Life is suffering, suffering is due to attachment to things, attachment can be overcome
And there is a path to accomplishing all of this
The path that is referred to here is the "Eight Fold Path" which shows someone the 'right' way of life. So in the end he created the belief system called Buddhism. Buddhism is not based around the idea of God but instead man. It is about reaching happiness in life through your actions and also reaching enlightenment. When someone reaches enlightenment, they go to Nirvana, which is a kind of Heaven. But until then they will be reincarnated and have the chance to live another life. Now with as many as 500 million followers, Buddhism is the 4th largest religion in the world. Buddhism is a religion with one of the most amazing back stories. If I wasn't christian, I would have been Buddhist.
