Are you ready to give your speech on Friday?

Students are hard at work preparing for the Gr. 7 Speech Fest this Friday. Continue to work through learning the content of your speeches, eliminating supporting points to stay within the 3-5 minute time limit, and making it more engaging. Parents, if you have time, please have your child practice their speech in front of you and provide them with some feedback based on the criteria/rubric. They also have a speech guidebook they were given that has tips on how to make an engaging speech.

IMPORTANT:
1.) MATH: Integers unit test on Friday
2.) SPEECH FEST: Speeches will be given on Friday.

LEARNING/PLANNER:
1.) READING: Read for 30 minutes.

2.) MATH:

Complete the remainder of the questions from pg. 264-266
Show work with integer chips for any questions that require it.
Show integer chips for #7 a, b

3.) SPEECHES:

Practice speeches in front of a family member and give them the rubric to give you feedback with.

4.) POST A RESPONSE:

LEARNING INTENTION: I can write a short paragraph about 2 things I need to work on for my speech and how I can improve in these areas.
SUCCESS CRITERIA:
1.) PARAGRAPH FORMAT: intro/body/conclusion
2.) BODY: Include 2 points from the criteria that you need to work on
3.) GIVENS: Spelling, sentence structure, grammar, capitals, and punctuation.
4.) PEER-ASSESSMENT: Give one student feedback based on the above criteria.
5.) REVISION: Edit/revise based on peer feedback or a self-assessment

Most people when they think of speeches they think I’m in front 1000 people reading something. It might be scary at first but once you start talking you start getting the feel.
Firstly I need to make more hand movements and walk around also memorize more parts of my speech.
Concluding to that I need to make face expressions and make my words more interesting and engaging. I will try to make my speech more engaging and work harder to memorize it and read it to my parents and friends and practise in front of a mirror. I will try my best to be successful.

The first of the two big things I need to work on in my speech is being more expressive with my hands and facial expressions. I can improve in this by practicing said movements and expressions while practicing my speech in front of a mirror. The second thing I need to work on is using more statistics to support my points. I can do this by looking at what I will say and deciding whether or not it needs a fact, example, or statistic to back it up. If it does, I can do some quick research.

Speaking and writing are two different things. Sure, they have their similarities, but if you ask me, speaking can be much more expressive and attractive to the audience. A speech contains a more exaggerated, distinguishable tone for its readers, not to mention hand gestures and facial expressions. Written words leave more for the reader to fill in the gaps, as there is slightly less context without their being a person to physically express it. Speaking of expression, hand gestures and facial expressions is one of the two big things that I need to work on in my own speech. I can improve in this by practicing said movements and expressions with my speech in front of a mirror. The second of those two things that I must work on is using more statistics to support my points. I can do this by looking over my speech and evaluating each point to see if it needs something to back it up. If it does, I can simply do some quick research. Naturally, there are most likely many things that I can improve on in my speech, but I feel that these two big things are the priorities.

Engaging and passionate, verbal and facial expressions, proper structure. What do all of these things/qualities have in common? Well, they're all things that make up a stellar speech that will be embedded in their audience's minds. Over the last few weeks, our class has been practicing our speeches individually and with peers/adults. Through self and peer assessments, I have listed a couple of areas I could improve on come Friday. Firstly, something I usually struggle with when I present is remembering to be expressive, both verbally and physically (with my hands). This time, I want to improve on my "stretch" by practicing more often in the mirror. Therefore, I'll be able to figure out where I can include more expression during my speech. Additionally, the unnecessary length of my speech could also affect my performance. Speaking from my own experiences, it's generally boring when people ramble on about their topic, so I want to avoid that. To improve, I can simply trim points from my body paragraphs so I won't be presenting for an extensive period of time. In conclusion, presenting speeches is an important skill for everyone to have in life. Therefore, continue to improve your abilities using feedback and remember to practice a lot because practice makes perfect. Or as Mr. Fisher told us, "Good practice makes perfect".

For the past week, our class has been working on speeches. After revising and polishing my essay, my speech has been coming along quite well. One thing I can work on for my speech is to improve my tone while speaking. I can do this by practicing in front of a mirror or in front of my parents while making sure to use appropriate expressions. The second thing I can improve on is making my speech more concise. To do this, I will take out a few points in all my paragraphs to ensure it's not too long. In conclusion, in order to improve on my speech, I will practice with appropriate tones and expressions and remove a few points in my paragraphs.

This is a quote from Maya Angelou, emphasizing on how emotions and expressions can make the audience remember your speech. Over the past week or so, I have received several points of feedback from my peers, and there are a few that I can improve on. Relating to what I said above, one thing I can work on for my speech is to improve my tone while speaking. I can do this by practicing in front of a mirror or in front of my parents while making sure to use appropriate expressions. This way, it will help the audience connect with what I'm talking about. The second thing I can improve on is making my speech more concise. To do this, I will take out a few points in all my paragraphs to ensure it's not too long, as that can potentially affect the audiences' interest to the presentation. Thus, in order to improve my speech, I will practice with appropriate tones and expressions and remove a few points in my paragraphs to ensure a smooth presentation.

What are two things I can improve on for speeches? There are many things I can improve on 。 But the two major things are speaking clearly and adding hand gestures 。First, is speaking clearly 。To speak clearly I will practice at home and keep practicing until I can do it 。 The the second one is adding hand gestures 。First, I am going to see what hand gesture goes well with witch part of my essay 。Then I am going to add a symbol beside it for me to know which part to do hand gesture 。Those are some things I can improve on for my speech.

“So much is said with the electricity of the eyes, the intensity of a whisper.” Over the past week, Division 1 has been practicing their speeches derived from the essay they wrote a few months ago. After rehearsing my speech a few times with my classmates and mom, there are two key points that I want to improve in. Most importantly, I want to put more expression into my speech. I found that my tone can sometimes be bland ad monotone, making people zone out when I speak. By varying my pitch and emphasizing on certain words, I think my audience will be more captivated into my speech. In addition, I should use more hand gestures and props when I speak. To make my speech more engaging, I can put together a quick infographic or presentation and gesture to it while I give my presentation. To conclude, I think I should put more expression into my speech and incorporate more hand gestures and props into my presentation.

Over the past week, Division 1 has been practicing their speeches derived from the essay they wrote a few months ago. After rehearsing my speech a few times with my classmates and mom, there are two key points that I want to improve in. Most importantly, I want to put more expression into my speech. When presenting my speech to the class today, I found that my tone was sometimes bland and monotone; this made my classmates zone out when I spoke. What are some of the 2 things I need to improve on at my speech?
As I read my speech to Matthew he gave me 2 things I need to work on which is making impressions by looking at the audience and it the speech needs to be easy for people to hear what I am saying. I want to make these improvements so I could be able to share carefully to the audience. We are required to practice 15 minutes or more per day so we could be prepared for our speeches on Friday. Ways to improve these 2 things is to be emotional with finger gestures. I could also look at my script by putting it down looking at it with my eye turned but my head is facing the audience. For me, something I can work on is not stumbling on my words and speaking more clearly while I read. If I am speaking too fast I will sometimes mess up my words, and then I would have to go back and say it again. I think knowing my essay more well and speaking more slowly will help with this. Another thing I should work on is making more eye contact with the audience, and not looking down at my paper as much, because I find that I look down at my paper too much when I practice. Again, it will help to know my speech better, so I won't even have to look down in the first place. Overall, there are still many things I can work on with my speech, but the best thing I can do is practice.

What I can do in my speech. Today in class we had a partner to present our speeches to. After we evaluated our work with each other, I came up with 2 things I should improve on. First, I should try to remake a little bit of the speech since it's still looking like an essay and if I'm trying to get extended, I am going to have to revise it a little bit. Second of all is to correct a few things like, for example, I didn't really say correctly how a vaccine works. These are 2 things I should work on.

Editing and taking feedback can help improve many things in your work. My speech may need more then 2 things to improve on but if I were to make it simple, the 2 most important things for me to work on for my speech would be memorizing and trying to have more expression and eye contact.
