Today, you continued working on your passing/bumping and serving in PE for volleyball. To review, click on this link and watch the video to see the proper technique used by many.

Also, if you haven't already done so, please be sure to download the app and log into FreshGrade using your passwords. Be sure to login with your parents under their accounts as well. Help them download the app to their mobile devices so they can stay in the loop with your learning and education. Special announcements and your assessments will all be posted here on a regular basis. Your first one will be uploaded on Wednesday in class.

IMPORTANT: FIELD TRIP TOMORROW! Dress appropriately, bring your lunch, bus fare or compass card, a jacket, something to take pictures with, a backpack, etc. If you have any questions, post them here.

Watch this video.
In your own words, describe the difference between mixed numbers and improper fractions using something from your life. For example, a pizza (s). I ate an entire pizza plus an additional half. This equals 1 1/2 pizzas. Each of the pizzas had 8 slices. I ate a total of 12/8 slices.

2.) POST A RESPONSE #2:

Today, you continued working on your 'Great Canadian Mail Race' letters.
Do some research online and post the name and full address of the school you wish to send your letter to. This school cannot be a one that is located in British Columbia.
Explain why you chose this location and school.
Givens: spelling, capitals, grammar, punctuation, and sentence structure.
Give one person some feedback and Edit/revise you original posts for the givens mentioned above.

My school is Raymond Elementary School, in Alberta. The address
N 200 W, Raymond, AB T0K 2S0. I chose this school, because Alberta is right beside B.C. and they have a slightly different school community from us, including a "RES (Raymond Elementary School) Little Red Sneaker award" for staff that really show support to students, and go the extra mile. This school also has their own facebook, and have "Taco Time" for divisions 1, and 2, every few days.

I chose Jasper Elementary because it's a big school , it's near BC and it seems like a school that would actually want to participate.

First response:

First of all a mixed fraction contains a whole part and a fractional part but an improper fraction contains just a fractional part.

So if I had 2 whole pizzas that had 16 slices and I ate only 10 of them the mixed fraction would be 1 & 2/8 the improper fraction would be 10/8.

Response 1: The difference between a improper fraction and mixed numbers is that mixed numbers have whole numbers in it but, improper fractions only have fractions. For example If there are 2 loafs of bread and in a loaf there are 10 pieces and If I ate 15 pieces that would be 15/10. This is an improper fraction for mixed numbers it would be like this. 1 5/10. This means I ate 1 loaf of bread and 5 pieces of the other loaf.

Response 2: The school I picked is Amherst Cove Consolidated School in Prince Edward Island. Address is 300 Carleton St, Borden-Carleton, PE C0B 1X0. The reason why I picked this school is because the name of the school is pretty cool and I learned alot about P.E.I. in grade 5.

For example :There are 2 birthday cakes last week and I ate part of them. Each of the cake have cut in 6 pieces and I ate 10 pieces,the mixed number should be 1& 4/6 ,and the improper fraction should be 10/6.

Response 1: I ate a pizza cut into 5 pieces. There was 5 of them. And i ate 7/5 of them. (I was very hungry) That means i ate 1 2/5 pizzas.
Response 2: I chose Sir Charles Tupper Elementary (1930 Cambridge Street, Halifax NS) because I was very fascinated how similar it is to our school. Their school looks very similar to ours, they have a gardening program and they are even part of ME to WE!!!!

I chose the school Red Deer Public school because the name is cool, and it's in Alberta (aka the closest).

Location: 6375 77 Street, Red Deer, AB T4P 3E9

Math: I ate 1 1/2 tubs of ice cream. Which also means I ate 3/2 halves of the tub. I have a stomach ache now XD

The school I chose is called Meadowlark Elementary School. The address is 9150 160 St NW, Edmonton, AB T5R 2J2. I chose this school because this school has a pretty high rate and so I thought they would participate in the Great Canadian Mail Race. The other reason is this school is in Alberta and is close to BC.

An improper fraction is when the numerator is bigger than the denominator. Mixed fractions have a whole number beside it tell how many wholes there are.
Example: I ordered two medium pizzas. Both pizzas had 6 slices each. I ate 7 slices in total. The improper fraction is 7/6, mixed fraction is 1 1/6.

Response 2: The school I chose is Ian Bazalgette School. The address is 3909 26 Ave SE Calgary, AB T2B 0C6. I chose this school because it's a school for grades 6-9 and I haven't been to a school with students that are older than grade 7. It's also beside B.C so I'm hoping the grade 7 class there will respond.

Is it ok if I do a school from B.C.? I was just wondering because there’s this town called Fort Nelson and it’s in B.C. Also I used to live there, so basically I’m trying to contact my friends there.
Once I sent a post card from here to there and it took 2 weeks to get there.

I chose it because it is in Alberta, which is close to Vancouver, and Edmonton because it is the capital city, and capital cities might be where all the mail is collected before sent out? (I'm not sure, but my Parents said something about this I think.) I also kind of like the name :)

There were 3 pizzas and each pizza was cut into 10 equal slices. Altogether my family ate 15 pieces. So we ate 15/10 or 1 1/2 of the pizzas

An improper fraction is when the numerator is greater than the denominator. A mixed number is a number consisting of a whole number and a proper fraction.

For example: It takes around 3 days and one third of a day to get to Alaska from Vancouver by cruise ship. The mixed number is 3 and 1/3. There are 24 hours in a day. Therefore it’il take around 80 hours to get to Alaska from Vancouver. The improper fraction is 80/24; then you can simplify it to 10/3.

I chose R. L. Angus Elementary School in Fort Nelson B. C. The reason why I chose this school is because I used to live in Fort Nelson. There are only a few schools there so I chose the school that most of my friends go to. I haven’t contacted with them for a while, so I guess this is my chance! :)
