Jump Rope for Heart

Today, the students explored and learned about different topics they might want to use to write their persuasive essays.

In addition to this, they learned the importance of not simply stating their point/opinion, but also supporting it with solid evidence. The evidence can take the form of an example, research, statistics, quotes, etc. A good supporting sentence can help persuade someone to support your point.

Should Kids Have Less Homework?
Yes, to illustrate, I think this because kids need a chance to kick back and relax at some point in the day. Plus with a lot of homework then that could make for less sleep, and with less sleep that can lead to bring cranky and nobody wants to be around cranky people. According to http://www.debate.org/opinions/should-children-have-homework having to much homework can lead to stress, which a lot of times can lead to depression, and in some cases suicide. So to conclude, kids should have less homework so they can relax, they will get more sleep, and won't be stressed over homework. So if you could make a choice, more or less homework for kids, what would you choose?

Wearing uniforms in school is a great idea!

I really do not agree with this because kids should get to express them self and not have to keep them selfs in a uniform that they don't even like! I also think that if you got two girls in the same uniform to stand side by side, say one was a girly-girl and loved make up a clothes and also did ballet. Say the other one was a girl that loved rock music and played field hockey she also hated make-up. If you asked a stranger to try and tell what they like he/she wouldn't know who they were and what they were like. But if you got those same girls and put them side by side in there own clothes that you could get an idea of who they are. What I am trying to say is that each person is different and should try and have a freedom of expression.

Smoking does not cause cancer.
I completely disagree with that sentence. This is because I know from my own knowledge that smoking can cause lung cancer. I also read it can cause mouth cancer, throat cancer, bladder cancer, chronic bronchitis, emphysema, and even heart disease. In fact, 40 thousand people die a year from smoking a cigarette. You are risking your whole life when smoking and others as well. Research shows that if you smoke, the people who around wile your smoking are more affected, which kills hundreds of people a year. Surprisingly, cigarettes contain tar, methanol which is rocket fuel, paint, butane which is lighter fluid, cadmium which is for batteries or is a battery, and about 500 more dangerously toxic ingredients. Just to gross you out, it also contains whale vomit. Hope you don't ever smoke. All those risks just to look cool when you really don't.

I am 100% against animals being held in zoo's or aquariums, To back up with some support. How would you like to be kept in medium size box for your life and people come look at you. HOW BORING AND UNFAIR WOULD THAT BE!. Especially when other people are out enjoying the world hanging out with friends and exploring. Not just stuck in a box getting the same food all the time. But the worst part about this is they get taking away from there families, picture living alone with no family. WHAT DO YOU THINK!

Should kids have less Homework?
I think that every kid around would want less homework and if they say yes, They are out of there mind. I think that kids should have less homework because they are not having the good quality time they usually do with there friends or family. Another thing that will support my statement is that if people always get homework they can never have time to do there own thing in there own time because all they have to do is just finish there homework. Sometimes people may take a long time with there parents helping because there parents want them to understand it. So, the last support I will have is that there can be homework just not more than 2-3 hours worth of math or just any homework in total that would take up all day just going to school and doing homework if you spent 3 hours of homework after school, you would probably go till around dinner time and by after dinner you can't do much because it will be getting a little dark or late to do any outdoor things with your friends.

I agree that kids should have uniforms in school. I feel that with what some kids were like booty shorts or shirts that revile to much at a very young age. I know that some kids were stuff like that and I totally dissagry with those kind of clothes. When all kids are weeing the same thing no one can make fun of what someones is wearing When we are dressed a like the economic and social barriers between students are reduced. So this is why i feel that we should have uniforms

I agree and dis agree I think that the clothing rule should be a lot more strict because I think that when girls are wearing shorts that are the same size as their underwear their is something wrong because you are exposing your self and we are to young and if girls are doing it now I'm not saying it will but it could lead to bad life choices and same with crop tops they expose to much and should not be aloud to at this age.

I disagree with this sentence. Uniforms allow kids to express themselves with clothing of their choice. According to http://www.sd71.bc.ca, Children should get the right to individuality in school. As another point, clothing defines a person. For example, if a person wore a shirt with 'I <3 JB' on it, it would probably say that this person is very bold and outgoing, versus a person who wears black and grey clothing, who is probably more shy and calm. If we had school uniforms, we wouldn't know anything about a person's personality. In conclusion, I think there should never be school uniforms.

In my opinion, wearing uniforms in school shouldn't be necessary because it can sometimes tell you about the person. For example, if you wear shirt's that are blue for most of the time, people will realize that your favorite color might be blue. If people already have some expensive clothing that they like to wear, what is the point of making them buy more clothes using more money? When I lived in USA, my school made the students wear red, dark blue, or white shirts and I forgot what pants you had to wear but it couldn't be shorts so I actually had experience. It is a very unfair opinion if a person didn't have any experience on a topic and they disagree with it. To illustrate, say that Jack is taking a vote on if we should be able to chose our own classes in Elementary school. Half of Jack's class disagrees without even knowing how it'll be like, they could really like it. In conclusion, I do not think school uniforms are needed or wanted (excluding some people)

To begin with, I now think that uniforms would be a great change to our school. Firstly, I think that uniforms will make every student feel equal. Many students feels like they're left out because they have the shirt that isn't as cool as the other person's. If everyone wears the same colour shirts and pants everyone will feel equal disregarding their skin colour, if they're rich or poor, etc. Secondly, you can know who is part of your school and who is a dangerous stranger, just like Clayton's hat rule. If you spot someone not wearing the same shirt as you, that probably means that person is a threat to the school and it would alert most people. It also makes it easier for people to find you on field trips. Lastly, it lifts up the peer pressure on yourself to my new, shiny designer clothes that have very good brands. All in all, I think that our school should have school uniforms.

Good evening ladies and gents, this is Cookielover from school BC news and why I don't think we should have uniforms. I don't think we should not because there could be people out there like Simon in the safety online video who knew what school she went to because he saw her in her uniform so that could a big problem. Also, kids should be able to wear what kids want to wear. If you want to debate about this post here.

Hello today I will talk about a serious topic of captive animals. I'm nog talking about dogs or cats I mean like whales or bears or some sort of wild animal. To add to that, I don't mean like rehabilitating an animal I mean like keeping them in cages and such. To start this topic, I think I should start with the aquarium. I know, I know they "rehabilitat" the animals but, if they do why are they there so long and don't get reased? Because they keep them to long and they can't let them go and not only that, they teach them tricks which will make them spforget how hunt. Secondly I would like to talk about zoo's. Zoo's are much worse the keep animals from the wild and put them in cages not big ones small ones and they don't even have a good reasone to keep them. Also, the saddest thing is you can see on their faces that they don't like it and they are extream lay uncomfortable and also, they don't live nearly as long as they do in the wild. I think that the only good animal viewing things are safaris were they roam free and do what ever and you just look at them and animal refugees were they safe endangered animals and keep them in huge landscapes. I honestly could not think of any reason why you would di such a thing how about we put you in a cage and only feed you half your normal food and laugh at you it would not be good now would so all I'm saying is stop doing this to animals please.

Supporting: I could not find a single good reason for zoo's and it would kill me to explain why zoos are good.

I disagree because Smoking is by far the most important preventable cause of cancer in the world. In the UK, smoking kills five times more people than road accidents, overdoses, murder, suicide and HIV all put together. Smoking often happened at young age to some people who start getting addicted at age 20. And people who keep at it will get really sick and, if they do it even more they will get lung cancer. It is most likely to be a non small cell lung cancer that spreads slowly and small cell lung cancer that spreads quicker than the more common one.

Statement: Kids should have less homework.

I completely think kids should have less homework. I think this because if kids have a lot of homework they can start to get stressed out. I know because one night I had a lot of homework, a soccer practice, and a school sport practice of some kind. I started to get really stressed out and tired because I had to go straight from my school sport to my soccer practice which left me with a bunch of homework that I had to do at 7:00. It made me really tired, and I wasn't wanting to do my work at school. This is why I think students should have less homework.

Kids should have less homework.

Have you ever gone home from a busy day, and had the dreadful thought of having to finish all your homework? I know I have. 29% of kids and teens become stressed out, not able to sleep, stop eating and can't focus when they are stressed with loads of homework. It's especially hard and stressing when you have lots of activities during the day. Such as, Dance, sports, music, clubs, or other activities. Most days I'm busy with dance and other activities to have time with my family/friends. And after that I would have hours of homework, so there would be no time for my family. I really think we should have less homework, since it would also be better for us so we would be able to focus better the next day.

I disagree with that statement,
the reason I do because then children and teens (especially teens) won't be able to express themselves they way they want to.
Also when they get older they may regret not wearing the things they wanted to wear,and regret can turn into sadness or maybe even anger at ones self and that's not a good thing

I agree with this statement. Children have lives in and out of school therefore homework is another thing that stops a child from going outside or family time. Normaslly when i come home from school I have dance, soccer or both, Then by the time i get home its 8;00 so I eat dinner have a shower and its almost 9;00 then I sit down and do my homework (math socials etc...) then I do my PAR and by the time im done its almost 11:00. SO i have no time to see my family or to relax because I have to go to bed. Therefore this is why I think there should be less homework Because CHildren wont have any time to spend socializing with friends, family time, Or just some time to relax.

Would smoking cause no cancer at all? I disagree with this statement because I consider that smoking will cause cancer to your lungs, which will make you get surgery. It's like. Chain reaction on how it starts when one starts to smoke, they get addicted. Once addicted they start spreading it on to others, then they would usually have cancer for their lungs if they smoke too much.

Should we wear uniforms? We'll depending on your religion, if your religious to Christianity then you might go to Christian school, as a matter of fact I used to go to a Christian school because my mom was religious to Christianity and believes in god, it's not tat bad to wear a uniform too.

Do you believe in uniforms? If you look at a hockey team or the army they wouldn't look right without their uniform. The uniform is a sense of pride and being part of a team. In my opinion, uniforms would be good. I understand what most people are saying about not wanting them because they are hard to keep clean and together. But it's really not that hard. As well as a sense of pride it provides good life skills you will need, you have to care for your uniform so it teaches you things you will need to know in life. Such as how to iron and wash clothes. I know since I've joined cadets and got my uniform I have learned to iron, sew, polish boots, etc. Schools such as hillcrest have a no hat rule. But a uniform would be even better. If a robber or criminal were to walk in to school they would really stick out. So according to everydaylife.globalpost.com they provide safety to the school. So I believe schools should have uniforms,

Should animals be kept in captivity? No because they are sometimes abused, they live in small cages and the have no a lone time. I will example each one in more detail. Starting with animal abuse.
Zoos can abuse and have abused many animals. One exmaple is the hippo in the greater Vancrouver Zoo. This hippo was living in a dark cold shed for years it couldn't even stand up! How would you feel living in your shed sleeping on concrete for a couple years? That is only one of the animal cruelty Vancrouver Zoo has reduced!
Now to my next point, these animals live in small spaces compared to there natural habitat. They usaly have miles to run free in the wild but in zoos they cage is not even half that space. How would you feel living in your bedroom for the rest of your life. Having people stare at you. Which brings me to my last point.
In zoos the animals have no a lone places or many places to hide. Why you may ask? We'll because the zoo wants to make money by people seeing them so if there hiding people can't see them and than people won't come. This is wrong because they animals is forts to be veiwed, even in the sheds they have windows and people coming and going makes it hard for the animals to sleep.
In conclusion, I think animals should not be in zoos because it he zoos sometime abused the animals, the animals are in a small space, and the have no a lone time. How would you like it living in a zoo?

Do you think animals being kept in cages to make money and not live to their freedom? Because I certenatly do not think that they should be kept captive and not out in the wild.
Imagine being in a cage until you die and you are kept there just to make money. I really think that animals should not be kept in captivity because they have te right to be free and not put into these limits of their life that they are given at the zoo why should they be kept at the zoo? And in what way can it help the environment? Because of you think of it in a way as saying that some animals are required to be in the wild because they keep the food chain running and going to not lead to extinction. It is like being taken from your home and your parents and being put in a cage to make money. If you think about it is just a big bad horrible thing to do.

I agree with this because student can be equal. If one person is rich then he will wear expensive cloth, and one person who is poor will wear cheap cloth. Then it would be unfair. But if children wear same cloth, it would be fair. Poor children can be loose there confident. Also uniform can allow more study time. If we wear uniform we don't have to spend time on shopping. Also we don't have to think about what we are wearing. So school should have uniforms.

I claim to disagree. Now, apart from the many complaints you will hear from many different people about uniforms, how their itchy or to tight or something petty like that, there are more underlining problems. In most schools there are uniforms for the girls, mainly a blouse and a skirt, and a dress shirt and trousers for the boys. Not only does it limit the studants from expressing themselves or wearing the uniform they're comfortable in, like how maybe the girls want to wear pants, or even shorts oncein awhile, or the boys want to wear skirts. Now, don't you go telling me the boys don't want to wear skirts, depending on their gender identity boys may want to wear both gendered uniforms. Also, it restricts the trans, non-binary, gender fluid and genderqueer studants from wearing what they feel comfortable in, just because they don't identify as the gender they were assigned at birth, and the school will make them wear something that forces them to identify as something they are not.

I disagree that kids should wear uniforms because other wise we can not express our opinions through our clothes and we will all look alike so we will not be able to know witch person is our friend or just a wierd person.
