Today, you built on the core competency of collaboration with your ecosystem's groups. You brainstormed and answered the questions at the end of lab write-ups. It was great to see students sharing and building on their learning of the ecosystems unit. Tomorrow, you will be presenting your learning through the photo essay assignment. We will start in the morning and finish them off in the afternoon. Be sure to check the criteria handout to ensure you are meeting expectations!

Today I learned that in a group, we are able to complete the assignment more easier and quicker.
Unfortunately, in a group, we got distracted very easily by the video that was played in the library- Raven Tales. We also distracted each other.
I feel like Ray & Andrew (div. 1) got the most work, while me and Cassandra didn't really do anything. I din't feel like the amount of work was splitted very evenly.
Again, I feel like Ray and Andrew (div. 1) got the most work. Although Cassandra DID give ideas while I didn't really participated. I want to help in the project more next time.

@ Emily Z - That was a very honest post. Did you feel that they dominated the discussion and didn't give you and Cassandra an opportunity to speak? Or were you both a little hesitant to participate?

We learned that collaborating works, but sometimes it may have its ups and downs. We also learned that everyone gets to share their different opinions and ideas so everyone else can see what we're thinking.
What doesn't work in group work are giving back harsh comments as if our ideas are not the best. Then our group won't talk to each other as much.
It depends whether those people want to join in or if someone doesn't want that person to included. In our case today everyone did, but one person didn't feel as included, in my thinking.
I think there was someone who did dominate the conversation, she/he had a lot of opinions or thinking that we didn't know as well.

Q1- Sharing each others opinions.
Q2- Something that does not work is having everyone participating.
Q3- Not really because 2 of our group members would just talking about some other stuff off topic.
Q4- Well I don't think it is really dominating but, only me and another group member really talked much. Well the other group members talked a little bit.

They were not talking about the question. They were talking about stuff like youtube and other things not related to the topic. Well I don't think it really affected our group work but, it might affect their science lab write-up because I don't think they understand.

1. You can share ideas and make contentions.
2. Sometimes people can get off topic and fool around.
3. Veer and I where trying to get work done, but the other two people in our group was doing stuff that was off topic
4. I feel like Veer and I was doing most of the work.

What did you learn about what works during group work?
Well.... I know that some people won't participate, in hopes that others will "do it for them" I learned that some people won't want to use other ideas that their own, and we might not all agree with one another.

What did you learn about what doesn't work during group work?
Again, Welllll..... I learned that everyone has a different opinion, and we just have to modify ours so it fits the needs of someone else. I know that we can't really make everyone happy, and rarely, one idea is agreed with, through the whole group.

Did everyone participate? Why or why not?
I'm not going to name any names, but there were 1-2 people who didn't participate, because they "couldn't think of anything" and they just sat there, laughing and talking, (occasionally complaining that they couldn't think). I can't really do anything about these types of people, because as much as I want to, I can't get someone to think.
Did one person dominate the conversation? Why or why not?
In my opinion, two people kinda dominated the conversation, and the other two were listening, but they were kind of just agreeing with everything the other two were saying.

Today, we learned how to collaborate to form work more efficiently using the thoughts of different members in our group. I learned how people have opinions of different peoples answer. Everyone did precipitate in my group; it was equal; no one dominated the group.

What did you learn about what works in a group project?
I learned that in group work, people will have their own opinions. Of course I knew that already, but I always thought that there would be a way to work eventually. That is true, but sometimes, people like their own idea better or doesn't feel comfortable sharing those ideas. (Like me)

What did you learn about what doesn't work during group work?
Again, not everyone gets to be 100% happy about the project. The thing about a group project is that all of the members in the group have to cope with not having all their ideas apart of the project.

Did everyone participate?
I didn't really. I always found that when I share my opinions, people might judge or not take it into consideration. I always keep my ideas and opinions to myself. That's why I usually work alone if I get the chance.

I was also translating to a member in my group about what we were doing... Sometimes, we would fool around because by the time I was done, our group had already photocopied it XD You can think this was an excuse, but I honestly think it would be better if everyone in our group understood first.

Did one person dominate the conversation?
Nahh... It was more like the other people in my group were on fire, understanding everything XD I shared my opinions once in a while, and my group did give us chances to input our own ideas.

I'm done :3 gotta stay up to work on my photo essay now...

Today, we learned about collaborating. People have different opinions, we can't really agree on one or two, but all of them are great ideas. Some people didn't participate and give ideas while we were discussing, so i hope that they will participate next time instead of talking about irrelevant topics. The rest of our group gave many awesome ideas and answers about the questions. No one dominated the whole group, so we all got to share our thinking.

Today ,we learn to make collaboration ,and mostly learn that if we are doing team work,we should share our opinions to others but the bad thing is actually not everyone were really participating ,so we can't really share ideas.In our group ,everyone are participating,but honestly for me I did participate but sometimes I can't really think some idea .i think no one really dominated the whole group and we discus the topic together

Today I learned that group work, works best when the group is on task, and doesn't work when there are distractions. I'd like to think everyone contributed in our group. We're all not extremely shy people, so we all talked about it for a while. The scriber probably did most of the work, but not all of the conversation. Although honestly the conversation wasn't always about science (we weren't shy but we didn't have super long attention spans... I think I'm starting to mostly talk about myself...), it was still a pretty equal conversation. I think it worked out, we got the work done in the end, but next time I think I personally could do better.

I learned that working in a group is more fun because you can get lots of ideas. I learned that sometimes working in a group you get into arguments and also get distracted. To be honest I think everyone worked really hard. Miles was away quite a bit though. Kaya did quite a it of work. She did he writing but me and Amaris also helped with the ideas.

Today, we learned about collaborating. During group work I find easier to complete assignments because when one person says an idea then you might get an idea and more ideas might pop up in your head. When that happens maybe that person might of already said something that covers all answer then that means that that one person answer the question. The work in our group wasn't evenly splitted. Everyone did share, but I didn't really participate and share ideas. I did share some ideas, but very few. Sometimes I couldn't think of anything because like I said one person already covered it and I couldn't really think of ideas.

What did you learn about what works in a group?
In a group I find that everyone sharing their opinions works best, but sometimes some people won't participate and that ruins the whole point of a group.

What did you learn about what doesn’t work during group work?
In a group it doesn’t work when people don’t participate, or when people don’t listen to each other’s opinions and suggestions.

Did everyone participate? Why or why not?
Some people didn’t participate because they couldn’t think of anything. Then those people just sat there chatting with each other. I couldn’t really do anything because it's not like I can change someone’s mindset.

Did one person dominate the conversation? Why or why not?
I don’t really think this is dominating, but two people wouldn’t participate so the other two people were doing most of it. I don’t think this is dominating because the other two people wouldn’t contribute to the project.

Our group got along pretty well so I don't know what "worked well" or what "didn't work well"

This was TOTALLY what happened.I of course being the most awesome guy around,done ALL the work,while Coco,Jerry,Cynthia,and the other Kevin done NOTHING!heh heh (note the SARCASM). O.K. it's time to be honest,I was the "guy in the chair"which means that I barley left the chair. Aside from doing a few observations,the main and only role I had was "babysitter". It IS what it SOUNDS like. I was literally babysitting and watching the snails and preventing them from escaping.Oh yeah,I had one more role "janitor" .Let's not get into the details.....

No one dominated the conversation.

Q1-
During group work, I learned that one person writing the notes is a bit easier than everyone writing it.
Q2-
I learned that during group work it hard to stay focus when there’s other groups around you. It doesn’t really work when the group near you is done and start bothering your own group, which starts a ruckus.
Q3-
Everyone participated. I was the one who wrote the notes down. The rest of the group told their opinions about the questions and their answers.
Q4-
The majority of our group was getting off topic (including me), so this person was trying to get us all on topic. It sometimes didn’t work but we finished the work we were assigned to do.

(This was really late but yeah)

Q1: It works that only 1 person has to write notes and the other people can discuss while they are writing is great!
Q2&Q3: What doesn"t work is that some people get away from doing anything. But in our group, everyone took turns talking and taking notes so it was perfect!
Q4: At first me and Jordan kinda dominated the conversation but i decided to take notes and that stopped.

During group work if someone comes up with a topic that isn't part of the work everyone in the goup gets distracted.

I feel like there was one person in our group who wasn't really participating because that person always got distracted and never came up with anything.

Everyone was dominating because we all were participating except one person like I said earlier.

The thing that works is when everyone participates and everyone thinks together and you put ideas on the piece of paper a lot quicker then you alone. Everyone participated because we all had so many ideas that it was hard to hold in.

Today in science we collaborated in groups and did some questions for our lab write up.
When we did this activity as a GROUP it seemed as if we were going a lot faster opposed to doing it individually.
Our group did a pretty good job of staying on task, regulated and not getting distracted by other people or groups.
I don’t feel anyone “took over” the discussion because everyone contributed equally. I think everyone in our group did their part and shared ideas. It works better in a group when you are with different people other than your friends because you aren’t too close to them. In my opinion it is easier this way so you don’t get as distracted.
It doesn’t work when you’re with your best buddies because it is so much easier to lose focus and all you want to do is fool around.
