Powerful Responses

Today, we reviewed the criteria/rubrics for the gift of words, thinking and learning questions, and the powerful response. An updated version can be accessed below or on our criteria/handouts page. Follow the criteria closely and it will lead you to success! It is crunch time and you will be spending a great deal of time this week writing, giving feedback to your peers, receiving feedback from your peers and teacher, and responding to the suggestions by making improvements to your work. This is an instrumental part of the learning process! Over the next few days, make sure you act on the feedback you are provided with.

IMPORTANT: Return your Gr. 7 Celebration forms and your money if you haven't already done so.

@ Lainey - You will have to discuss that with Mr. Fisher. Part of completing your homework is taking care of your work and making sure you bring it to school. However, there are times when we all lose something or forget it. I'm sure Mr. Fisher will be understanding to your situation.

@ Kevin - You know exactly what to do. The template was linked up to today's post. You could have just used like many of the students did for the picture book powerful response and for the novel powerful response. Please come see me for clarification tomorrow.

Wolves relate to Cole because wolves are completely opposite to Cole. Wolves depends on each other and trust each other and Cole absolutely does not. Cole doesn't have a pack because packs trust each other and Cole still doesn't trust anyone. As he dances, it reminds him of how lonely he is and why he's lonely.

If you think about it, Cole is a lot like a wolf. A wolf has a great amount of strength when in a pack but if he’s alone, he’s still like a wolf just weaker. Some people may say that he is in a pack and some may say he’s not, to be real, he’s both in and not in a pack. Here let me explain... Cole is considered the omega of the pack. If you’re confused, an omega is considered the lowest rank of the wolf pack, alpha being the highest. I think that this wolf pack insists of Garvey, Edwin and Cole of course. But a pack is supposed to be able to trust one another, they’re supposed to be able to rely on each other for help... that is why Cole is also not part of the pack. As you can tell by reading the book, Cole doesn’t want to seem like a guy that always needs help, he wants to try and become a person who is strong and independent. Which leads me to my next point... to become strong and independent, you need to learn or be able to survive alone. Now what about the wolf dance, what did he learn through that? I personally think that he learned that he didn’t need to be alone to be strong and independent. You can’t just be independent, you need to learn how to ask someone for help from time to time. What I’m trying to say is that maybe he learned that he needs learn how to depend on others...
If only I can actually understand what I said.

I think it relates because he never showed weakness and always refused help from others. So he didn't have a pack. But since the mauling, since he started to change, he has gotten one- maybe not as big as others, but more than before. In his pack are his mother, Garby, and Edwin. Now he is finally accepting help.

I think that Cole doesn't have his own pack. he always says that no one cares about him, and that no one's ever there for him. He walks alone, unlike most wolves. That's why he's always week, and strives to feel strong again. I think Cole actually needs someone to show how they care about him, and to be part of his "pack". This shows that although Cole tries, you still need help sometimes, or you really just find yourself in a deep, dark hole. I think as Cole danced the "Wolf Dance", he was really connecting with the wolf, and realizing how much he was actually similar to them.

You know, Cole isn't really a bad person. (Now.) Don't believe me? Here is a metaphor. Cole's community is like a wolf pack. (Like Garvey, Edwin, his parents, Peter ect.) You can't really live without the people around you. Cole's behavior/attitude is pushing him away from the others because he is classified as a threat. When he parts away from his 'pack' and is all alone on the island, he almost didn't survive. Until Garvey and Edwin came to save him. After Cole finishes his 'dance' I feel like he realizes that he really needs others for him to live. Like I said before, his attitude is pushing him away from his 'pack'. So he needs to change. He needs to have more control with his emotions. Cole also needs to work on trusting the others. In the end, Cole is just a normal person just like you and me, he isn't a bad person. Before he was on the path of becoming a bad person, but now he is slowly going into the right path.

Wolves are amazing creatures. They work together in a pack to hunt for food and protect each other. When Cole is dancing the wolf dance, he thinks about how a wolf’s pack is powerful altogether. However, when a wolf leaves its pack and it is all alone. The wolf becomes weaker and loses the help and security of the other wolves. Cole is like the lone wolf. He doesn’t have a ‘pack’ because he pushes away the help of other people. However, Cole is different from the lone wolf. He is starting to change for the better and he is now accepting help. Currently, Cole does have a pack, but he just doesn’t realize it. His pack includes Edwin, Garvey, and Cole’s mother. While he is thinking all of those deep thoughts, Cole realizes that he needs help from others - just like how a wolf pack acts. All in all, I think that Cole learns a lot from these dances, soaks, and the ancestor’s rock.

Yes, Cole isn't the most decent nice guy but MAYBE just MAYBE he's changing from time to time. He has a pack, but he doesn't know it. They include Garvey, Edwin and Coles mother. He doesn’t know how much his mom cares about him. He's been pushing those members away thinking that he can do everything all on his own. Together people are stronger, being alone isn't the greatest. Coles the lonely one. He has his own "space" and doesn't want anyone in it. After doing the dance he might've realized how he was similar to a lonely wolf with no pack and learned that he actually needed help. Not doing everything on his own like he's the almighty person. Cole learns a lot of different things on the way, most of them especially from Edwin and Garvey.

I think Cole don’t have a pack,because he said he don’t trust anyone.So I think that’s why he doesn’t have a pack.Everybody need a pack.Like wolves,because if a wolf doesn’t have a pack,he can’t hunting animals.He realized that you need the help of others,like a wolf pack.

I think why he's thinking about wolves and stuff because he's alone by himself and he wanted to be a part of a pack. He wants to have the feeling of warmth with friends because his family doesn't really care about him . I don't think that he has a pack because a pack is like a group of friends but he doesn't have any friends because of his behavior. I think that when he started dancing the wolf dance he started thinking and realizing that Garvey and Edwin are in the pack because that both teached Cole how to get over his problems.

Cole is somewhat like a wolf. He likes being alone, while at the same time in a pack. When he's in that pack sometimes he can betray the other wolves. The idea of a wolf pack is that they stay together to hunt/find food. I think that the other wolves are Garbi, Edwin, his mom, his dad and... ahh I forget the boy's name (the one he hit on the sidewalk). By doing things like burning down the cabin he's betraying them. *random ending*

I think why Cole think that wolves are related to him because he knew that even wolves need others to help or care about them,but since Cole always think that he was the best,he didn't really need others for help,he just did everything in his own. I mean who doesn't need someone to help them,no one is perfect,when someone helped you on something,I felt like it just gonna make it better. I think Cole actually do had a pack, and that include Garvey, Edwin and Cole's mum. Maybe he actually think that they didn't help him but when he think deeply,he should notice that they actually helped him a lot,and actually is not no one care about about him. I think he realizes as he dances the wolf dance is that everyone need someone to help or care. For Cole,in his mind,he just think he is smart and he did everything on his own,if actually no one helped him,he can't do as well as he just do it himself.so I think he found out that it was really important and he needed someone to help.

I think he relates to the wolves because he wants a pack, a group just like the wolves. But it’s hard for him to get one because he thinks he doesn’t need any help from anyone. He thinks he’s very independent and has pride. In reality, I think he actually does have a pack, but he just doesn’t realizes it. The reason why is because he feels like he hasn’t been loved by his family, especially his dad. He learned to behave like that. To me pack means a group of people that cares about you and you can trust. Since he feels like he hasn’t been loved and cared by others, he feels like he doesn’t have a pack. In his pack Garvey, Edwin, and his mom is in it. Cole doesn’t realize anything because he has this pride where he doesn’t need help or anything, he can go through things on his own. His mom actually really cares about him and Garvey and Edwin helped him letting his anger out. They helped Cole to release his feelings.
