Map of Africa

Today students worked hard to complete their practice maps of Africa. The will use the skills they have learned and practiced on this map to make a scale map of North America where they will track the main route of the underground railroad that Harriet Tubman took on her journey to freedom! Students in Div. 2 will have their Math evaluation on percent this Tuesday. The evaluations will be uploaded to FG next week.

IMPORTANT: Abdul and Kaelyn - bring a red cabbage to school on Monday!

When water gets evaporated by steam, this is still a physical change because the evaporation is still water.

Baking is a chemical change because you can’t undo baking.

I watched three videos about physical and chemical changes and I learnt a few things. The first video taught me that physical changes can usually be undone and that chemical changes usually are impossible to revert.the second video taught me the different ways that chemical and physical property’s can be Utilized. 1st Video:
-Cutting a piece of cloth is an example of physical change, because you are changing the physical properties of the cloth like the size,shape and for
-Water is also an example of physical change, because water turns into ice and steam which I guess changes somehow.

2nd Video:
-Physical properties are properties that describe the physical characteristics of a substance and not how the substance behaves chemically.
-Malleable means that when metal has the ability to be hammered into thin sheets basically it's going to change physical form so malleable is a physical property of matter.

3rd Video:
-Property means a distinct quality of an object made out of matter, like it's colour, shape,size,weight or temperature. For example when a friend/family member want to give you 1 or 2 candies from their bag. But you cannot look/see where it is, so basically you use property to find the candy you want, like gumball you have to find a small round kinda hard candy.

Most changes in chemistry are divided into two groups one being physical changes and the other chemical changes
One way you can tell something Is a physical change is if the change can be undone.

Video 2:
I learned that physical properties describe the physical aspects of a substance and not how the substance reacts chemically
I also learned that chemical properties of a substance are how that chemical composition will change given a specific set of conditions.

Video 3:
An element is a substance that cant be broken down into other substances through physical changes or chemical reactions.
Lastly I learned that gases have no definite size or shape.

(vid. #1) Did you know everything changes all around you? Everything is in Physical and Chemical changes.

If I were to say "physical changes" in front of you right now, what would you think about? I would think about something I could change physically like a plastic bottle. Well a physical change is something that changes the physical properties of a substance. For example, I cut a piece of paper in half. That's a physical change because it only changed its shape. Another example is water and salt. As you probably know the salt will dissolve but that still makes it a physical change because you could still separate it by dissolving it. Ok, how about "Chemical Changes"? I think about turning something into something different. For example, I have a glass of water. If I were to pour lemons that would make it lemon water. Or milk by adding cocoa powder to make chocolate milk. Chemical changes a reaction that rearranges the particles of 2 or more substances to create at least 1 new substance. Most Chemical changes are mostly commonly done in baking. For this reason is because when you put your batter in the oven, you can not separate the ingredients. but if the batter was not heated up in the oven, it would still be a physical change because you could still separate the ingredients.

(vid. #2) Now you know what physical and chemical changes are. But what are physical and chemical properties? Well physical properties are properties that describe the physical characteristics of a substance and not how the substance behaves chemically. For example, let's say the boiling point of water is 100 degree celsius. It is a physical property because the substance does not change. Chemical properties are different. It is a property of a substance that describes how that substance’s chemical composition will change given a specific set of conditions. For example, tnt is explosive so that changes the substance's chemical composition.

(vid. #3) Using physical and chemical changes, physical and chemical properties, we can use it to hack into getting the things we want. For example, me and my friend made a bet. The first one to find a sour key in a bag of sour peaches, wins all the tasty candy. To help me with my BK, sour keys are mainly key shaped and they are squishy. I use this to my advantage so within 30 seconds, I find the sour key first.

Video One: This video taught me about physical and chemical change. Most changes in chemistry is classified as a physical or chemical change. A physical change is when the change doesn't from a new substance, for example water can change to ice. This is a a physical change because ice not a new substance, it's just water. A chemical change is were it makes a new substance, and it cannot usually be undone.

Video Two: Did you know that physical property's are properties that describe the physical characteristics of a substance? For instance the boiling point is an example of this. Next is chemical property. A chemical property is a property that describes how the chemical composition are changed in a set of conditions. An example of this is flammability.

Video three: A property can help us tell things apart. Firstly what is a property? It is colour, shape, temperature, and more! Like I said earlier, you can use this to tell things apart. For example if you had to find your favorite candy, inside a bag without looking. You could probably find it because of its shape.

In the first video I learned how chemical and physical changes differ.
The first way you can identify the difference is a physical change is if the change can be undone.

In the second video, I learned how the physical change is more focused on the physical aspect, rather than the chemical reaction.

In the final video, I learned how an element can not be separated chemically, because a element is the original if you will.

I learned new things from each video so I’m gonna tell you
Video 1:
To start off with I learned that a way to tell if something is a physical change is that it can go back in to its original form
And I learned that signs of a chemical property is that the substance will release an odour and may change colour

Next this is what I learned from the second video
if there’s going to be a chemical change then it has to do something with something else
I also learned that viscosity is a chemical change.

Lastly this is what I learned from the third video
Each substances get their own physical property’s and that each property is is different in their own way

Today I had to watch these three science videos! I learned two things each in three videos (Also because I have to stare two things for each videos ><)

Video one: physical and chemical change. An example of this that I learned in the video is that water is one of the many examples known as physical change because it can turn into ice and into steam. The reason why it’s called a physical change is because the ice and steam is still made of water. A chemical change is a substance that usually can’t be undone. Example! Putting some cocoa powder, or chocolate syrup into a glass filled with milk, is an example of a chemical change, because the syrup (or powder) is mixed into the milk, you can’t undo it because it was mixed together to make chocolate milk.

Video two:
Next I learned about physical and chemical properties.
Physical properties are properties that describe the physical characteristics of a substance and not how the substance behaves chemically. While chemical properties is a property that describes the chemical composition will change given a specific set of conditions.

Video three:
Lastly, I learned that properties can help you tell things apart. I also learned that an element is a substance that can’t be broken down through physical changes or chemical reactions which I never knew. :0

In conclusion, I learned a few things in these videos and now it’s in my background knowledge!

- chemical changes occur when the substance that is changed is changed into a new substance, sometimes absorbs/produces heat, change colour, produce odor, create sound, or produce light
- e.g., when a muffin is baking, it is a chemical change, because the substance is different
-physical changes occur when the original substance is not changed, the state of matter & size can be changed, & it can be reversed
- e.g., a fabric being cut does not change it chemically

- physical property describes characteristics of substance rather than chemical
- e.g., a boiling point
- chemical property describes how a chemical property would react to a set of conditions
- e.g., corrosive

- property can be used to tell things apart from one another

To prepare for the upcoming science lessons, we have been tasked with watching some videos in order to expand our background knowledge. Here's what I learned!

In the first video, I learned about the difference between chemical changes and physical changes. Some signs of chemical changes are that they form a new substance that might absorb or release heat. It may also change in colour, produce an odour, create sound, release gas, and produce light. A common sign is that it usually can't be undone. Physical changes however, do not form new substances, though it may change shape or size. It could also change state of matter but can often be undone. An example of a chemical change is a baked cake, since it can't be undone. In addition to this, an example of physical change is sugar and water, since it can be taken apart.

In the second video, it talked about physical properties and chemical properties. Physical properties describe the physical attributes of a substance. Note that it does not describe how the substance behaves chemically. For example, freezing point is considered a physical property. As for chemical properties, they are properties of a substance that describe how that substance's chemical composition will change given a specific set of conditions. An example of chemical properties is something combustible.

Finally, in the third video, it talks about property. They asked what can you tell about an unknown substance by its properties? To illustrate this, the person did a challenge to see if they could tell which substance was made out of metal. Judging by the hardness, malleability (ability to change shape), and it's magnetism, she guessed the correct one. I never thought about the magnetism, so that's pretty interesting.

In conclusion, I feel like I learned a handful of information today, so I'm prepared with enough background knowledge for next class!

What i learned from the first video I learned that physical changes are like changing the items size and things that can be easily taken apart compared to chemical change like baking something it combines them making it hard to separate.

In the second video I learned that a physical change is like a description of it physical properties. A chemical property is like something that is flammable or corrosive

In the third video it really just talks about properties like how properties can help define certain materials.

Video 1:
Physical changes means changing the external of something. (Shape, Size, or/and form)
Example: A glass breaking into pieces, technically it is still glass, just in a shattered form.

Chemical changes means 2 substances mix in to 1.
Example: Water + Sugar = Sweeten water. (Sugar dissolves into water)

Video 2:
Physical property: Describes the physical characteristics of the substance

Chemical Property: Describe how the substance’s chemical composition changes.

Video 3:
The more clues you have, the higher chance the substance you are guessing is correct.

Guess the substance by its hardness, malleability, or magnetism.

Video 1: In the first video I learned about physical and chemical changes and how to tell the differences between them. First off a physical change is something that changes the physical property of something, some things would be if you change the size, shape or form. Now a chemical change a reaction that rearranges the particle of two or more substances to create at least one new substance.

Video 2: In this video I learned about different examples of what is considered physical or chemical property. Some examples would be is whether or not freezing point is a chemical or a physical property, and the answer is physical. That is because you would be able to revert water back to water after freezing and that something that would make it consider it a physical property.

Video 3: In the third video I learned about how to tell the difference between 2 unknown substances, in the video she had a gummy frog in one hand a a nail in the other hand. She first started to feel it but she wouldn't have know which is which because the gummy frog was had I think. So she had the idea to use a magnet to see which will connect with it and that was how she knew which was a nail or a gummy worm.

There are 2 types of changes physical and chemical. They differ heavily as physical changes are changes which affect thing physically ie a ballon being blown up or a brick being shot with a anti tank round from a l55 120mm cannon. Chemical changes as the name suggests are changes which affect the object physically. For example a salt water solution. They are changed as the salt and water mix to create a solution which is hard to is separate and is heavily different from salt or water.

Vid 2 physical properties describe just the physical appearance of a material. For example a brick being a certain color is a physical property. On the other hand a chemical property is how the chemical composition changes under certain circumstances like flammability
Video 3 properties can help people guess what it the material is. For example say i threw you a mysterious metal. You are blindfolded by the way. You are understandably concerned as this is a wendy's parking lot at 11pm and you never agreed to this. Using the physical properties you can get clues which will help find what it is. You proceed to touch it. The metal is hard but dents a very small amount. It is cold and your magnetic magnet sticks to it judging by sound. It is square ish and is playing the soviet anthem. You realize that you have been tricked and this is a speaker not a metal. That would be a example of using physical properties to find out what a object is.

Something I learned in the first video was that physical changes can be undone and chemical changes cannot be undone. an example of a physical change is cutting a piece of cloth. This is because cutting the piece of cloth only changes its shape and not its physical property. Cutting a piece of cloth is reversible. An example of a chemical change is when you bake cookies. This is because at first, the cookie starts out as dough. The dough itself is a physical change since the ingredients were only mixed together. When you bake the cookie, it changes from the dough, into a cookie. This process is irreversible so it is considered a chemical change.
video 2:
After learning about physical and chemical changes, what are physical and chemical properties? an example of a physical property is colour. an example of a chemical property is flammability. Physical properties describe the physical traits of a substance rather than how it changes chemically. A chemical change describes how a substance with react or change when given a certain set of conditions.
video 3:
Lastly, all substances have different properties that we can use to identify unknown substances. For example, if I had a piece of chocolate and a gummy bear and I put it in a bag. Easily, with my eyes closed, I would be able to tell each one apart. This is because the chocolate has a hard texture and the gummy bear has a soft and squishy texture. By testing the hardness, I can tell what the substance is.

For the PAR over the weekend, Mr. Hong sent us three videos to watch about science. Two things I learned in the first video is that most chemical reactions cannot be undone, and most physical reactions can be undone. In the second video, I learned that water-reactive is a chemical property and condensation point is a physical property. Lastly, the two things that I learned in the last video are you must never taste in an experiment and the more data the better in an experiment.

The difference between physical and chemical changes, physical changes are changes that are made through physical change , like ripping a piece of paper. Chemical changes are changes in the chemical components of the product being changed. Like wood burning, fire burning the wood through chemical reactions.

Video Two
Physical and chemical properties, what's the difference? Physical properties are like colour or the level of flammability of something, chemical properties are like the changes in mixtures or the changes to these substances.

Video Three
The properties of something can help tell what somethings is without the use of our vision like telling apart a frog gummy from other assortments of candy

Video #1:
I learned the difference between chemical changes and physical changes. A chemical change basically means that the thing is being changed and you would not be able to change it back, for example mixing orange juice and apple juice. A physical change is like ripping paper.

Video #2:
I learned about some examples of a physical and chemical change. For chemical changes, an example would be colours, and for a physical change an example would be flammability.

Video #3:
The last video I watched is about how we can tell the difference between a chemical and physical change. If you put a plastic square and triangle in a bag, you could easily tell which one is which without even looking because of the shape is basically how I would be able to tell what substance it is.
