READING SURVEY

10/18/2017

Today, we continued making qualitative and quantitative observations for our ecosystems projects. We discussed the importance of having enough quantitative observations in order to be able to graph the data in our lab write ups. We will have some time tomorrow for some more observations in the afternoon. In addition to this, we learned about abiotic and biotic interactions in an ecosystem and how introducing or removing something from an ecosystem can cause a chain reaction. Watch the video again with your parents and explain to them the different types of interactions you see.

Today, you watched 'How Wolves Change Rivers' in class and we had a discussion about how adding or removing things from an ecosystem can have a chain reaction that changes an entire ecosystem.
Watch the video again and describe at least 4 different interactions. 2 interactions should describe a biotic-biotic interaction and 2 of your descriptions should be abiotic-biotic interactions
Be sure to pay attention to the givens (Spelling, grammar, sentence structure, and punctuation).
Give one student suggestions/feedback on the givens listed above.
Edit/revise your original post.

1) (Biotic and biotic) A major event was when the wolves decreased the population of deers. Thus, the vegetation started to heal/regenerate as there weren't as many dear to eat plants.
2) (Same as above) Another major event was when the wolves decreased the population of coyotes. As a result, bunnies and mice were introduced to Yellowstone. Addionatly, a major increase of eagles was caused because of the increase of mice and rabbits. This is a interaction between wolves and coyotes.
3) (Abiotic and biotic) The wolves in the vidoe interacted to the water by making it more stable. However, this happened because the decrease of the deers population. The regenerated trees were able to stabilize the rivers. This is an interaction between wolves and water.
4) (Same as above) When trees were re-introduced into Yellowstone, they made more oxegon. This is an interaction between trees and oxygen.

The first interaction is the wolf and the deer. The wolfs ate deers so the population of the deer are controlled. The second one is the wolf and the hyenas. The wolf ate the hyenas and let the population of rabbit and others grow.The third one is the wolf and the river.The wolf made the trees grow on the riverbank and changed the river.The last one is beaver and logs. The beaver use logs to create niche and that niche became habitat of other animals.

First interaction is the plants and deer's. Deers ate the plants and reduced the vegetation there.
Second interaction is the wolves and deer's. Wolves ate the deer so it could reduce the population of the deer so that other species could eat the plants.
Third interaction are the beavers and logs. Beavers built dams and they created niches and gave other species habitats.
The last interaction is the river and the wolves. There was less erosion, channels narrowed, more pool formed, and more riffle sections. The wolves did it by regenerating the forests, stabilized the banks, and more reasons.

Biotic to biotic
1) The wolves made the population of the deer decrease which made the plants/trees heal.
2) The wolves also made the population of the coyotes decrease which made the bunnies and mice come to Yellowstone.
Abiotic and biotic
3) When the trees came back to Yellowstone, they provided oxygen.
4) The wolves made to water more stable partly because of the decrease of deer.

• Wolves and the river: Due to the changes the wolves made, the forest responded. With that, the river also responded and became stabilized.

Biotic to Biotic: The Wolves killed most of the coyotes which resulted in an increase of mice and rabbits which led more hawks
The beavers came because the park had more trees they could cut

Abiotic to biotic: The grass grew more for the ecosystem because the deers were being eaten
The dams beavers built had all sorts of life living in them like frogs.

For Biotic and Biotic:
~When wolves cam they killed deer and scared them away from certain parts of the park.
~With the growth of more trees the beavers came, and the beaver dams made homes for ducks, and fish
As for Abiotic and Biotic:
~Thanks to the wolves the growth of more trees around the river stabilized the banks and caused less erosion, so the rivers had a more fixed course.
~Since more trees and plants grew because of the lack of deer in a certain area because of the wolves there was the addition of more oxygen (because oxygen is abiotic right?)

The wolves drove the deer away out of lots of places and the trees grew taller where there were no deer. So more birds and beavers moved in. The beavers made dams in the rivers, which provided a habitat for otters and other stuff that are living. The wolves also killed some coyotes, which meant more rabbits, which meant more hawks and other stuff that are living including bears but that's partly because there were more berries and shrubs without the deer.

2. The wolves killed some of the coyotes in the area which caused the mice and rabbit population to go up and that meant that the population of hawks and eagles went up too. (biotic and biotic)
