This week was a short week due to student conferences It was great to meet with all the parents and the students at the same time. I was absolutely amazed at how the students were able to articulate how they learn in class. When students discussed 'THE BIG 6 LEARNING PRINCIPLES', I was impressed with how you were all able to explain how you use them to 'LEARN'. I am very proud to help all of you learn this year and I can't wait to see the incredible things you will ALL do this year!

A poppy, is not just a common poppy. Each poppy has it own story. Everything happened in the World War l, it is a enormous and terrible war. When I hear war, I imagine blood. It is a terrible thing in the world. We lost more than millions soldiers and even civilian.

We need money to treat the injured soldiers and civilian. So, volunteers made poppy in each country collected donations. If you wear a poppy, that means you may treat someone or even saved someone's life!

Remembrance day is about when the soldiers fought in the first and second war. We respect the soldiers that fought in the war, that fought to the end, to keep things right.

We respect them because of many things, like they fought for us. They were selfless and fought for goodness. Without them, wwe won't be here, thwt's why we respect them. Every november 11, at 11 am, we wear our poppies and stamd for a moment of silence.

Remembrance day is an important part of our country, but why do we keep this tradition, of remembering the war, which was a bad part of our past?

Well, this is all about the first world war, which started in 1914. It was probably just a common dispute, but suddenly, it grew...into a war. From the video, I've learned that it was the British Empire, Russia, Italy, France, and America versus Ottoman Empire, Austria-Hungary, and Germany. There are so many different nations/countries that everybody knew that many lives were going to be lost. Millions of people went and trained to fight in the war, but more than half of them died bravely, defending their country.

One of the more amazing parts of the war was when a young Canadian soldier in Belgium did something special. John McCrae saw a field of poppies in the town of Flander(s) and made a poem about the war and the poppies.The now popular poem is called "In Flanders' Fields" and it helped to make the poppy a symbol of remembering the people who died in the war. An interesting fact about the poppy is that they come in different shapes and designs. For example, Wales and Northern Ireland have two petal poppies and a leaf, but we have four petals and a no leaf.

After the war was over, the people in Edinburgh, Scotland made paper poppies at a factory called The Lady Haig's Poppy Factor they sold paper poppies to help fundraise money for the veterans coming back from the war. The factory was founded in 1926 by Lady Haig, who's husband was the commander of the British Army in France during the first world war. At the beginning, only two ex-servicemen were working there and used red paper and a pair of scissors to make poppies. Now, there are over 40 people with disabilities working there, making over 5,000,000 poppies an year for the Scottish Poppy Appeal. They also make over 10,000 wreaths and tens of thousands of wooden remembrance day symbols like the Christian Cross and the Star of David.

These things are sold in places like superstores and schools where there are a lot of people. The volunteers who sell the poppies make a lot of money for the cause. They also do bake sales and events to make more. This is a way we are helping the veterans and their families. We also have a special day for them: Remembrance day (Armistice day) where on the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month, we stay silent for 1 (or 2) minutes for a moment of silence to remember the soldiers who gave their lives to us. After all, this war lasted over four years.

I think that we should pay our respects on this day because it helps us remember what other people did for us (Lost lives!) so we can be grateful and have what we have.

What's so important about November eleventh? Well, it's Remembrance Day, or in some places, Armistice Day.

On this day, people all over the world wear bright red poppies to acknowledge the brave soldiers who fought in all the wars for freedom and peace. We remember those who battled and survived in war (called veterans), too! But why the poppy, you may ask?

During the battle of Ypres, Canadian soldier John McCrae noticed how the vibrant red poppies flourished amidst the barren and war-torn landscape. This inspired him to write the well-known poem "In Flanders Fields." This poem became very popular, and the poppy was adopted as a symbol to commemorate those who fought in the war.

From the video, I learned that all the poppies in Scotland are manufactured by Lady Haig's Poppy Factory which was founded in 1926 in Edinburgh. At first, there were only two employees, war veterans. They produced poppies by cutting them out of red paper. Now, there are over 40 ex-servicemen with disabilities who work there; they make 5 million poppies annually for the Scottish Poppy Appeal.

In conclusion, the poppy isn't just an ordinary flower, it represents all the soldiers and veterans who battled in all the wars. We remember them by wearing poppies on November 11th, Remembrance/Armistice Day.

Before I watch this video I think that the purpose of remembrance day is just for us to remember the soldier who fight for our freedom, and we need to buy puppy to remember them. But after I watch this video I Learn a lot about remembrance day like I never know that all puppy from Scotland is made from the lady Haig's puppy factor.

Remembrance Day is about remembering everyone who fought to make the world a peaceful place. Remembrance Day is meant to be spent being thankful to soldiers who provided us with an enjoyable and peaceful life. Poppies symbolizes the sacrifice of all of the soldiers who were lost in the war. John McCrae even wrote a poem about these poppies which inspired people around the world to start wearing poppies as a way to say thanks. The poem is called, “In Flander’s Field.” So the big idea is that we wear poppies to show our thankfulness towards these soldiers. That’s what I know and some things I learned about Remembrance Day.

When I was little, I was very confused of why we were so formal and quiet during Rememberance Day assemblies. We weren’t allowed to clap, cheer, laugh, and not even talk. Now, I know why we do this. It is to respect those who were lost in the war and those who sacrificed themselves to create peace for our country. We stay quiet to resemblance our respect and gratitude.

Rememberance Day, also known as Armistice Day and Poppy Day, commemorated worldwide in many countries. It is important that we take the two minutes of our lives (compared to the veterans who spent their whole life) on 11th of November and the 11th hour of the day. We use the two minutes to thank those who lost their lives in the war.

On the other hand though, this day also marks the official end of World War I’s anniversary. This war had a great impact globally and affected many people. The poppies we wear on this day symbolizes remembrance and respect to soldiers. They came from the poem In Flander’s Fields that describes the poppies which grew in the places where soldiers were buried.

In the end, this is what I know about Rememberance Day and why it is so important. Two minutes a year is really nothing compared to how much the soldiers have done. So, I hope we all respect and use this time on November the 11th to show that we remember those we served in the war.

In my background knowledge, on Remembrance Day, we wore these red poppies to remember all the soldiers who fought in the First World War for freedom and peace. For the poppies, I know that people started to sold poppies because there are red poppies grew wild all around the war-torn landscape. After I watched the video, I learned that the reason why Remembrance Day is on every year's November 11th is because The First World War ended at 11:00 o'clock in the morning of November 1918. This was the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month. A young Canadian soldiers named John McCrae had written a poem called "In Flanders Field." Inspired by the red poppies grew wild around the war-torn landscape. His poem became very popular and the bright red poppy soon be adopted as a symbol to remember all the soldiers who fought for us in the First World War. The poppies sold in Scotland and other countries are first made by Lady Haig's Poppy Factor in Edinburgh. In 1926, this factory was founded by Lady Haig, who's the wife of Field-Marshal Douglas Haig. Field-Marshal Douglas is the first commander of the British Army in France during the First World War. Back to the time when the factor was first opened, all the poppies were handmade by only 2 ex-servicemen with some red papers and a pair of scissors.
Today, there are over 40 ex-servicemen who work with disabilities. These men make 5 million poppies every year for the Scottish Poppy Appeal. Lastly, I find it interesting that poppies aren't same everywhere. There are different design in England, Wales and Northern Ireland.

In conclusion, I think I've learned a lot of Remembrance Day and the red poppy. I think we should always be thankful to the soldiers who fought for freedom and peace!

In my background knowledge, on Remembrance Day, we wore these red poppies to remember all the soldiers who fought in the First World War for freedom and peace. For the poppies, I know that people started to sold poppies because there are red poppies grew wild all around the war-torn landscape. So these vibrant red poppies are also known as a special symbol of all the soldiers who fought for us!

After I watched the video, I
learned that The reason why Remembrance Day is on every year's November 11th is because The First World War ended at 11:00 o'clock in the morning of November 1918. This was the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month. A young Canadian soldier named John McCrae had written a poem called "In Flanders Field." Inspired by the red poppies grew wild around the war-torn landscape. His poem became very popular and the bright red poppy soon be adopted as a symbol to remember all the soldiers who fought for us in the First World War. The poppies sold in Scotland and other countries are first made by Lady Haig's Poppy Factor in Edinburgh. In 1926, this factory was founded by Lady Haig, who's the wife of Field-Marshal Douglas Haig. Field-Marshal Douglas is the first commander of the British Army in France during the First World War. Back to the time when the factor was first opened, all the poppies were handmade by only 2 ex-servicemen with some red papers and a pair of scissors.
Today, there are over 40 ex-servicemen who work with disabilities. These men make 5 million poppies every year for the Scottish Poppy Appeal. Lastly, I find it interesting that poppies aren't same everywhere. There are different design in England, Wales, and Northern Ireland.

In conclusion, I think I've learned a lot of Remembrance Day and the red poppy. I think we should always be thankful to the soldiers who fought for freedom and peace!

Remembrance Day is a day to remember the soliders who fought for Canada and lost their lives by being injured or getting killed fighting in the war.The First World War started in 1914.The war ended on the 11th month, the 11th day, and the 11th hour.The war lasted 4 years.The poppies are the symbols of remembering the soliders.The poppy factory was handmade by. Lady Haig in 1926.On Remembrance Day, people take a moment of silence to remember the the people who fought in the war.

@priya- I really liked how you could explain everything in a short paragraph but think that you should pay more attention to a few points.it is not just about World War One. We started Remembrance Day after World War One but does not mean that we only appreciate what people in World War One. Also in the video it said that the war lasted over 4 years not 4 years. Last thing is that you just had an exta period and thing that you should reread it. Over all it was well done.

On November 11th we wear a poppy to remember the ones who fought for our country. In 1914, 100 years ago the first world war started. So many people were either killed or severely injured. When the war ended bright red poppies started to grow in the fields. These poppies inspired John McRae to write a poem titled "in Flanders fields". Around the world, people loved this poem and thought it was very touching.

After watching the video I learned that John Mcrae was actually a former soldier who fought in the war. I also learned that remembrance days is also as Armistice Day. I also learned that people made paper poppies to support the veterans coming back from the war.

In conclusion, I learned lots about remembrance day and I learned that it has a fascinating history.

For so long some people just weren’t appreciating what those soldiers did for us. This weekend I got a different perspective of Remembrance Day. One that I had never experienced. But before that let me explain a little about Remembrance Day. To me Remembrance Day is a day to be thankful for the lives that have been sacrefised so we can live in a better world. Sure the world isn’t perfect but I think that it could have been worse. Also that there are so many people emotionally scared. It reminds me of a movie I watched when I was younger. Mulan. Mulan said that why does her father want to go when there are plenty of strong and young men to fight for China? That got me thinking well what if every body else said that. Imagine you were a man who was going to fight in the war but then you friend got lazy and made up an excuse saying oh you know my father pasted away years ago and my mother is sick. So then you were like oh my friend isn’t going it won’t make a difference if two men don’t fight, so you also made up a realistic enough excuse. Then imagine if everybody did that. Let’s say if 798 soldier out of 1000 quit then what do you think would happen. Lucky I don’t think soldiers did that. But the memo is that I don’t think it’s too had to appreciate what these soldiers did for us. The bloodshed they saw, there families dying it is worse than what most of us have experienced. During world war 1 and 2 people in Poland and places like this didn’t have freedom, kid were starving and dying every day. But this weekend was my family’s friend babies b-day. It made me realize that we are so lucky to have not been is the war to be able to celebrate to me able to have some of our loved ones with us. To be happy. This video was very interesting and tought me a lot about remeberance day and things that people do to support former soldiers. E.G. Did you know that disabled people in Scotland help make poppy’s and make millions to help former soilders and their families. Also did you know that poppy’s all over the world look different! Last year I asked my parent if all countries around the world celebrate Remembrance Day and surprisingly the answer was no. Countries like I ran do not celebrate Remembrance Day and usually some Peale do not care.

Well for me I don’t really know about remembrance day or anything around it day until I get to Canada 2 years ago, is it, 2 years or 3 years, I don’t know don’t care.

So to me remembrance day is the day that to remember the people die for the country in second war world, maybe yes maybe not I’m not really sure, but What that’s what I think. On that day November 11th we wher white and put on a puppy on the left side of our chest and do a performance. Well that what I think about issues

To me, Rememberence day is a very special day. It is a day when we reconize, thank and remember the soldiers that had died in war to save our country. On November, 11th, at 11am exactly, everyone stops what they’re doing and wait for a moment of silence for the soldiers who have sacrificed themselves for us. It’s a day we should be thankful for them. That’s why we have this day and it’s what it’s all about. Remembering, thanking, reconizing and mourning.

“Fought for our world.”

Remembrance Day isn’t supposed to be a happy day. We are supposed to remember all the people who fought for our country. People give out a red flower called the poppy. The poppy is famous for Remembrance Day, because of a man named John McCrae.

What I didn’t know about this already is that they make different type of poppy’s all over. It’s very interesting to see the outcome of the different poppy’s that they make.

In conclusion I think that we should all wear a poppy to show our support for all the people who have fought for us and showed there support towards us to makes us a better place.

Remembrance day is a say when we can remember those who gave us freedom. From watching this video I learned some new things, I learned that the war took 4 years and it stopped on November 11 at 11. What I already new was how the song in Flanders fields was made. The reason I know this is because in class we went over this. Somthing else I learned was that there is a real factory were poppies are made which seemed interesting for me since I never knew that.

The things I know about the Remembrance Day is that the First World War started in 1914 and the British empire,France,Russia,Italy, and America fought against Germany,Austria- Hungary, and Ottoman Empire. Many men’s went to war and most of them were either injured or killed. Also the First World War ended at 1918. A young man saw red roses/Poppies and he was inspired and started making them out of paper and to remember people that served of there country. Then lots of people started to wear them every year. The war lasted for 4 years.
