Remembrance Day

Yesterday was Remembrance Day. A day to recognize and remember those who fought for our country so that we could live in peace, harmony, and not in fear of being persecuted against for the colour of our skin, religion, gender, etc. I feel so lucky to have been born and raised in this wonderful country! We owe this to those who fought for these rights! I hope you were able to take a moment of silence yesterday to pay homage and respect to soldiers who fought for us!
IMPORTANT:

Do you know what Remembrance Day is? Do you know what the poppy represents? If you don't, I'll explain to you. Remembrance is a national holiday honoring the soldiers that died in WW1 and the veterans that are still alive today. We honor them because without them we wouldn't be able to do the things that we do daily, like go to school, do sports or hanging out with friends. Now that you know about Remembrance Day, now let's talk about the poppy. The poppy is the main symbol of Remembrance Day. It became the symbol because of a poem by John McCray, called "In Flanders Fields". He wrote this when his friend died, and John noticed that poppies were the fastest to grow around the graves of veterans. Now, the Legion has adopted the poppy to be the national symbol of remembrance. But, when do we honor the veterans? On the 11th month, 11th day, and the 11th hour, everyone stands for a moment of silence to think and acknowledge the people that died to make Canada the way it is now. That is my understanding on Remembrance Day and the poppy.

Unfortunately, they died doing so, so then on Remembrance Day, we honour the soldiers who went down fighting for us. In conclusion, poppies are more than what you see everyday.

How was it started?

Remembrance Day honours the soldiers who died fighting, for peace. This day is on November 11, because that's when World War I ended. Well, how are poppies involved with this?

Well, at the end of World War I, a medic from the military looked upon these beautiful flowers that survived the war. They were quite the sight, then it got involved in the poem "In Flanders Fields".

The poppy is a Symbol of remembrance in Canada. The poppy was inspired by the poem in Flander’s fields it was written by Canadian lieutenant colonel Jon Macrae during the first world war. He wrote it when one of his closest friend died and was buried in a makeshift grave with a simple wooden cross poppies were already growing around them. That is what inspired Macrae to write the poem. A lady by the name madame Ana Guerin sells poppies to raise money to help places recover from the war. She presents the idea to the allies of France. One of whom will eventually become the Royal Canadian legion. A few months later the organization that would become the legion official adopts the poppy as their Symbol. it is important to wear a poppy to show that we remember how people sacrificed themselves so that we could live in peace. If you think it is hard to wear a poppy for one day, then you should look at the east coast they wear the poppy for a whole month. The meaning of the poppy is to remember and help veterans. I hope you learned something about the poppy.

On Monday, November 11, 1918, at 11 a.m, World War I ended. Such bloody and brutal war has never been seen before, where over 40 million fell, that it was called "The war to end all wars". So, to honor those that have fallen during the grisly WWII, on the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month, we hold 2 minute silence. Many people in canada also wear a poppy, originally red. Coming from Jon McRae's poem "In Flander's Fields" which he wrote after his close friend passed away due to the war and was buried in a make-do grave. When Jon went to visit, red poppies were blooming next to the grave. The poem immediately became popular. Sometime later a lady by the name Ana Guerin was inspired by the poem and made red poppies to give out on remembrance day. She presented the idea to the allies of France, and they liked the idea. The Legion then (Royal Canadian Legion) adopted the poppy as its official symbol. We wear the poppy every remembrance day to honor those who sacrificed their life to make our world a better place. It is only because of their bravery and sacrifices that most of us live in peace currently. To thank them, wearing a poppy and holding 2 minute silence is the least we can do.

Every year, there is a special holiday held on November 11th called Remembrance Day. As you may know, there is something that we wear on our chests called the poppy.

The poppy is used to remember the soldiers who've fought in the war and sadly the soldiers that were injured or killed. This didn't just magically appear though, there is a background and history behind the poppy. On 11/11/1912, the first World War ended. John McCrae wrote a poem called "In Flanders Field". This poem included poppies, which were a symbol of the blood in the War. His friend had recently passed away from fighting, and he was in grief. This poem quickly spread and became a well known war poem. Soon, Anna Guerin started to sell poppies to raise funds for soldiers and their families. Now, the poppy is free, but accepts donations to help veterans and their families. The poppy is important because it helps us remember the fallen soldiers and their families. It helps us acknowledge that we have this land and this freedom because of the soldiers who fought in the war. We would not be able to express our opinions, start protests, voice our own opinions, and much more without the veterans.

Every year on November 11th, at 11am, we have a minute of silence for all the soldiers who fought in the war. There was also a special holiday created called Remembrance Day. Please do not think of this day as a "a free day off of school." This holiday is important, and if somebody you know fought in the war, you would take this day to remember them.

No matter where you are from in the world when you see someone wearing a red poppy on their shirt you know what it means. The poppy has become a universal symbol of remembrance and peace.

We were poppy’s on Remembrance Day because we want to thank and remember all the soldiers that fought in war and got injured or killed. Remembrance Day started because a guy who was called John McCrae wrote a poem called “in Flanders field”. He wrote this poem because his friend died in the war.the poem included poppies because there were poppy’s growing while the war was happening. A lot of people read the poem and it started to become famous. Then a lady called Ana Guerin started a fundraiser to help replace the places that got destroyed in the war. And then people started wearing poppies to represent remembrance day.

What is a poppy, and why is it a symbol of remembrance? Here's a brief history of the poppy, it's significance, and why YOU should wear it.

So what is a poppy, and how did it come to be? In 1914, a big war started. This war was known as WW1 or The Great War, and it was very deadly, with 40 million casualties. While John Mccray, a Canadian soldier was serving there, he noticed the first thing that grew upon his friend's graves were poppy's, a type of flower with red pedals and a black center. After he finished serving he wrote a poem about poppy's and got it published. The poem was called "In Flander's Field", it got really popular because of how heartfelt it was. In 1921, a lady started selling poppy's for charity to veterans due to their contributions to the country. Later on that year, the Royal Canadian Legion (RCL) adopted the poppy as a symbol of remembrance to those who passed fighting for our freedom.

Okay, so now you know all about the poppy, but when can we wear it? On the 11th day of the 11th month of the year, we have Remembrance day. Remembrance day is a day to remember all those who fought so we could watch Netflix all day, or just live comfortably. On the entire week of Remembrance day is when I suggest you wear a poppy, as that is the time of the year when you commemorate to the lost lives. Although poppy's are free, it is best you also donate to help the veterans. Just imagine being in a brutal war for a decade, then you come back to see people complaining about the inconveniences of walking to school or something like that. On the 11th hour of remembrance day, we have a moment of silence for all who lost their lives fighting for our safe country.

At the end of the day, wearing a poppy is very important to wear on the week of remembrance day and especially important to wear on Remembrance day.

Remembrance day is an important holiday on Nov 11. This is when you remember people that had served in the army. An example of this is the Navy, the Military, and the Air Force. A way to respect this day is to wear a poppy on the left side of your chest. A poppy is a flower that symbolizes peace and hope, the reason it got its meaning is because of world war I. The only thing that would grow in the harsh condition was bright red poppies. These poppies managed to grow despite the booming, fighting and blasting. Another way to remember and help is to donate to veteran and their families, as well as going to the remembrance day parades. Remembrance day is an important day to make sure that the past will not repeat itself again. We could also morn the fallen soldiers that had sacrificed themselves so we could live in a free land happily.

But how does the symbol of the poppy fit in?

The poppy was first introduced to the world as a symbol of Remembrance Day when a poet and military officer named John McCrae wrote a now-famous poem called In Flanders Fields. The poem told us about how many poppies grew from the fallen soldiers' graves. We wear poppies so that every time we see them, we will be reminded of everything the soldiers have done for our country and are continuing to do.

Are you aware of the reason why we wear poppies on remembrance day? If you don't, I'll briefly explain the history behind the poppy and why we wear it on remembrance day.

I believe many of you have heard stories about wars and how it hurt and killed many people. Remembrance Day is where we honor those who survived the war and those who didn't. Without these soldiers who fought for us we wouldn't have peace in our country. But how is this all linked to why we wear a poppy?

WW1 ended on November 11th 1918. Peace had returned to the country. Many of those were lost and buried. Next the graves of the soldiers who have died during the war poppies grew. And John McCrae who saw the poppies decided to write a poem about it. The poem was later published and is now one of the famous poems in Canada called "Flanders Fields". Later on in 1921 a Lady started selling poppies most likely inspired by the poem. The RCL adopted the poppy not long after the lady started to sell the poppies on the same year as a symbol or remembrance and honoring veterans and those who've died in the war.

There's alot more to this topic but this is about it for my brief explanation of why we wear Poppies on remembrance day. I hope your learnt something from my paragraph.

Have you heard of world war 1, it ended on November 11th 1918… It got pretty brutal. Many Canadian soldiers lost their life to fight in the war and to help make this country a peaceful place. Now you may be thinking, “yeah that’s pretty sad but what does it have to do with the poppy?”
Well my friend, let me explain.

During the war, military office John mcrae found himself in a field filled with poppies and dead corpses. Eventually, he wrote a poem about them called “flander’s fields” which soon became popular.

So in conclusion, we wear poppies on November 11th to recognize and remember all the fallen soldiers who fought and lost their lives to help make our country a peaceful place.
