Digital Dossier

Today, students learned about the 9 Elements of Digital Citizenship and digital footprints. They were shocked to learn how other people can access their information if they don't properly lock down their security settings and if they don't 'THINK BEFORE THEY CLICK'. Whatever they put online is there forever so they must always think about their actions. Parents, click here to see the collaborative work of 56 Grade 7 students.

1.) LA: Read for 30 minutes

2.) FIELD TRIP:

Return Symphony field trip forms and money. The field trip is on the 16th.

3.) SCIENCE:

Bring your Ecosystems field trip photos to school tomorrow or upload them all to Google Drive or 365 so you can access them.

Write a paragraph and include a good intro, at least 3 supporting sentence and examples, followed by a conclusion.
Check one other student's paragraph to see if they included what was asked above and give them a suggestion on what they didn't include.

I learned one too many things about my digital footprint today. First, I learned that whenever I post/say anything online, it is there forever, even if I "delete" it. For example, if I wanted to take a picture off my Instagram feed, I can't really, because people can take screenshots of it, and some hackers can even go back into the history of Instagram, and retrieve the picture (or something like that). Second, I found out that your past really makes a huge impact on your future. For example, it you were to post really unnecessary things about your everyday life on social media, your next job, or university could refuse to hire/accept you, because of the foolish mistakes you've made in your past. Lastly, I realized that every search engine, websites, apps, etc. can track your every move, and so can most people. For example, if your friends, or even anyone follows you on social media, they can see everything you do, every picture you like, and even everything you comment. So overall, we can, and should go online for research, and sometimes for chatting with people, and socializing, but we have to know what we can and cannot do first, to ensure we don't make any horrible decisions online. We shouldn't just stay away from it, because the internet in general will be very useful in our everyday lives, we just need to know how to handle this responsibility, and not to be harsh or mean to anyone, because that stays there FOREVER.

Today in class I learned about many scary/creepy things about the internet. First of all what is a digital foot print? Well a digital footprint is like a trail or track you leave behind on the internet. So for example you go on twitter and you tweet something, but then you decide to delete it. Even if you delete it some people might have already seen it and sometimes they can even access it even if it is deleted. First thing I learned is that what ever you do on the internet it is like saved on your IP address so what ever WiFi company thing you have has access to all your things you searched and websites you visited. Second thing I learned is that your digital foot print starts before you are even born! Your parents might send like the ultra sound to friends or relatives over the internet and once they do that your digital footprint starts. Third thing I learned is that if you post a picture on social media or anywhere people can actually track where you were by looking at the surrounding area of the place you were at. People can even get the exact coordinates of where you were by looking at like some numbers or something. ( I forgot what it is was) We just need to know our rights and responsibilities while we are on the internet to stay safe and stay away from sites that are fake or unreliable.

First I learned that we should not post our own information to others such as Instagram Facebook. For example, you put something that included your information and you sent it out to somebody and people will know your own information and badly someone will going to use your own information to hurt you . Second, we should not text
someone that we don't know , for example , if there is a man text you suddenly, and you saw his picture he was a little young boy, and you start texting him but actually he's a bad guy he just wants to take your own information . Last, you shouldn't post your privacy picture to Facebook or Instagram , and if you just want to delete it it is too late because the post will stay into your phone forever ,people might know some other thing about you , so we should be always be careful if you want to post something else

You need to have an introduction sentence. You should also put a conclusion sentence at the end. Plus the last sentence is a really long run-on sentence. Maybe you could consider cutting it in half. There's also a period missing at the end.

When you walk you leave footprints like we leave in the sand. We also leave footprints online. Every click, post or submission is one more step. The first thing I learned was that my digital dossier started when I wasn't even born. Some examples are that my mom had an ultrasound when I was in her stomach or maybe my parents posted pictures on facebook or sent an email to a relative. The second thing is that if you are sending a text message to someone it goes to your device company first and then it gets sent to someone you are trying to send it to because they need to record what you are sending. For example, if I am trying to send a text message to my friend it would first go to my device company and then to my friend.

The third and final thing is posting something on social media. If you post something it will never get erased. If you try to delete it, it will get deleted but not in you dossier. It will always stay in there no matter what. For example if you post something on instagram you probably can delete it but a lot of people probably have already seen it and it stays in your dossier FOREVER!!
People say "self reflect before you self reveal" so "think before you click!!!"

Today we learned about digital footprint.
What is digital footprint? Digital footprint is like a trail you leave behind online. Whatever you post online like a text message, picture, a story on Instagram or Snapchat, is permanent. Even if you do manage delete it, people probably saw it already. For example, if you accidentally added a story to your Instagram story, someone may be really quick and see it and screenshot it.
Another thing I learned is that you should be really careful of what you post. For example, let's say you posted a selfie of yourself in a park. People could see the picture and probably recognize that park and know your location which is really creepy...
The last thing I learned was that your digital footprint starts before you are even born. When you are born, your parents most likely took multiple pictures of you saying that you are born. Your parent probably sent those pictures to their relatives or friends.

Majority people with any type of social media leave digital footsteps online. Posting anything is definitely a footstep.
First thing I learned is that whatever we search is being tracked down and lots of people may know what we search up. Like if we go on the class website any "hacker" or someone can see what the URL for the class website is. And any type of service you use on your device can see websites or pages you go on or search up.
Second thing I learned is that my digital dossier started when I was born, or even yet when I wasn't born. My family, relatives and my families friends could've took a picture of me when I was a firstborn and could've posted it on social media, especially Facebook. I did find some pictures of me when I was a newborn and my family might've shown those pictures to their friends.
Third thing I learned is about text messages. I had no clue that the text messages go through to your mobile company before sending it to your friend or whoever. In my case, I use Fido so if I texted or replied to someone it would go to the Fido company first before my text is sent.

Having social media is one thing, but you have to be careful on what you're doing because not everything and anyone are reliable on social media.

Today we all learned about our nightmare, Digital Footprint. First of all, Digital Footprint is basically anything you do online stats there forever. Like leaving a footprint that never comes off.
Additionally, we learned about Digital Dossier. Dossier basically means our folders and information about us. It happens even before we are born. Now that is scary.
Last but not least, I learned about texting/talking to people online. I literally never knew that everything that you type or text to people, it goes through the company first. Wew!
In conclusion I learned about 3 scary things. Digital Footprint, Digital Dossier, and texting.

Today I learned scary things that the internet can do. I actually freaked out and got quite scared. The first thing that I learned today was that Digital Dossier thing starts even before you are born. Another thing I learned today was that Digital Dossier keeps going even after your death. This actually really creeps me out. I also learned that when you post something it will still be there even after you ‘delete’. So if you post something then it will technically be there forever. Those are the three things that I’ve learned today about Digital Dossier.

Time to start over,SIGH....... Ok the first thing is that I learned is that every time you search something on the internet,it gets tracked. Every time mr.hong posts something embarrassing online about you such as a picture of you freaked out from his "fun visualization activities" it is permanently there and everyone can see it. Every time you log on to something you get tracked. What is something?Something is your G-Mail,Facebook,Twitter. Instagram,One Drive,and.....well you get the idea. ALL your personal info is BLASTED ONLINE FOR ALL TO SEE!:) I also learned that downloading songs and game that are SUPPOSED to cost money but you found a link online that lets you download it for free is ILLEGAL! For example,if there is a new video game you really want called DRAGONHUNTER IV, and it costs $25 to buy,but then there is a website that just copied and pasted the game, so you can download it for free and then you used the website and got the game for free. Then you are having fun playing DH IV for free thinking you just cheated the DH IV company but you don't realize what you are doing is totally illegal. That`s what I done.... ADMITTING time!
( I downloaded this app that lets me play DS(but sadly not3DS) games for free. HEH HEH HEH! Overall this is a really scary thing to learn. @mr.hong IS THIS A WAY TO SCARE US AGAIN MR.HONG??I'LL GET U! FINALLY,DONE PHEW:-D

When we were learning about digital citizenship today, I got really creeped out by all of the ways we could get stalked. Such as by photos and messages that contain locations. I never actually knew that people hiring you go through your social media accounts. I wonder how they even find them? About the part where your footsteps follow you before you were born and after you die... That REALLY creeped me out XD I never thought about these things before! My conclusion is, social media could be a safe (but not so safe) or dangerous place depending on the track you take. I like my privacy, so I never posted anything with my face online, always press decline when a app asks me for location, and skip addresses when I create a account on something. It's probably the best way to keep yourself safer than to make yourself sound more interesting and outgoing.

A question for you guys: I don't know about you guys but when I go to google, a tab always pops up saying "you have gone incognito. Nothing you searched will be recorded." Or something like that. I never really cared about it but after the lesson we did today, I am quite curious if it actually works or if it's just a lie. Someone please answer :3

First off, who knew your very first digital footprint was taken before you were even born? Well now you know! What exactly is a digital footprint? A digital footprint is basically any information you put online. It’s like how we leave footprints in the snow or sand. I first learned that even if we “cleared” our history, all the things that we searched up are still somewhere just waiting to pop up again! The next thing I learned is that all of our text messages go through whatever device company (I don’t remember what it’s called) we’re using, and then gets sent to the person you were originally sending it to. Sort of creepy and cool, mostly creepy. Though I have learned quite a lot, this is going to be the last thing I lost down. The “last” thing I learned is that once you take a picture of something and post it online, someone could find out where that picture was taken. It’s honestly very scary, yet at the same it’s very interesting. As you can tell, we all have learned many scary things about it digital footprint. I guess now you can “Think before you click!”.

Today we were learning about digital footprints/dossiers. Digital footprints are the tracks and trails you leave behind when anything related to you is posted-even things from before you were born. The first thing I learned about today was that everything you post, text, or email cannot be deleted. Even if you were to hit the delete button, someone could have reposted it or maybe someone took a screenshot. Plus some company has probably recorded it in archives or a database. The second thing I learned is that someone could track me down just by looking at a photo I may have posted. They can figure out where that picture was taken by looking at my surroundings. They can even find the exact coordinates of where that picture was taken. Finally, the last thing I learned today was that search engines and browsers such as Google store every single thing I have ever searched on them. They store all that information and if anyone were to hack into the company’s archives or databases, they could gain access to everything I have ever searched. In my opinion this is terrifying. Overall I have learned that I should always think before I send something out because not everything online is safe.

So, today we watched a couple educational videos on digital dossiers. I already knew pictures and messages still existed even when you deleted them, but I was seriously shocked to hear some of the other things included in everyone's digital footprint. I think the craziest thing I learned today, is that Google knows my IP address better than I do. Another thing I was surprised to hear, is that our digital dossiers start before we're even born and continue once we are. I mean, what happened to consent, people? (Nah, I know they just want to keep a list of our previous medical conditions/problems so they can diagnose us asap later on, but still!) Then again un-born and born babies can't give consent, and I'm sure parents always say yes for the greater good. Or the hospital just assumes so. Something pretty concerning I learned today was 1 out of 3 people get don't get the job they apply for because the company tracks their digital dossier. So in my group of friends, how many of us are going to get rejected? I think I'll hold off on getting lots of social media, until I've already gotten my job, thank you very much. I learned more than I thought I would today, a lot more. It's a bit frightening, all the things that can be revealed by hackers and what not, and how big everyone's digital dossier is, whether they realize it or not. Honestly I'm feeling a little grateful that I haven't been allowed to post on Facebook or Twitter and etc. Thanks parents for keeping my digital footprint somewhat under control.

I learned that things you say will always stay there so you shouldnt say anythibg you mught regret. Next i also learned that you digital dootprint starts before ur born. Last i learned that telus or shaw knows what you chatting and stuff. In conclusion, i was very suprised.

Today I learned about scary digital footprints which are prints you leave after doing anything in the digital world. I also learned that even though you delete a post or a text, it's still there because everyone has seen it already. the scariest thing that I learned was if you take a photo and post it, people can actually know where you are.

In class, we learned about the way online internet works, and about digital footprints. A digital footprint is a trail of data you create while using the Internet. It includes emails you send, posts on Instagram, Facebook, Twitter... Even the websites you visited. When you posted something on the internet, it will be on the internet forever, even if you thought that you deleted it already. Another thing that I learned is that do not post anything private like your school, your home address, your name... Some people can even find out where you are through the reflection of your sunglasses. I was shocked when I heard that. Digital footprints are with you when you are not even born! Your parents, the hospital, they have a really big possibility of posting pictures of you the time you were born. I always thought that I only started to use the internet and the digital footprint when i got a phone. Now I know that even I'm not using the internet, my mom still post pictures of me, too. That's the digital footprint. The internet is really a interesting and both dangerous place, always remember that:when you post something, it will be there forever.

We learned that everyone is stalking you because of the security cameras and people can hack into your computer and social media stuff. You know what I mean. Also, people can just look at everything you visited online and everything you like and dislike and your family, your birth date, and almost everything about you just from a file. Also if you die, people can still see people talking about you and stuff. People can also see where you posted a picture, so if your stole a diamond don't go teasing the police about it and stuff.

We learned about our digital footprint and what I found out is interesting and creepy. Learning about your digital footprint is important so you can safely use the internet. You should always be kind an respect others online, you can never take back inappropriate language online. Your tech supporters watch your every click and your digital folder starts before you are born. Overall it is intriguing and educational to learn about this topic! Stay protected online!
