SCIENCE - SCALE OF LARGE PROJECTS DUE TOMORROW

SCALE OF THE UNIVERSE

Today, students worked hard on their 'SCALE OF LARGE' projects for Science. It was clear who had spent a great deal of time on their assignments and who had not managed their time efficiently. You have no other homework today, other than completing your science projects. Of course, your French for Ms. Campbell is still due.

1.) FRENCH ASSIGNMENTS ARE DUE TOMORROW!

2.) SCIENCE:

Scale of large projects are due tomorrow!
Complete your science projects according to the criteria sheet and scale comparison chart.
Be sure to include the scale chart on your project that shows the distances compared to Earth (1cm). You may use the measurements on the size comparison scale.

Review the two videos below to help you understand the idea of 'SCALE OF LARGE'.

@ David R - You can do approximate calculations. For example, a diameter of 11.19 can be divided in half to be approximately 5.6. 5.6 times 2 is 11.20. Does that make sense? When you divide the diamter by 2 you get the radius. The diameter is the distance across the centre of a circle. The radius is the distance from the centre to the edge of the circle (half of the diameter).

I am having a hard time doing the scale project and I am confused because do we have to use them? because in my project I am using foam balls not the cut outs but I am struggling and I'm getting stressed out and I am not close to being done on my real project not the scale project and the worst part is that I still need my material to get it done but I need time!! ;(.

@ Jaci - If you look at the criteria sheet, it says that you only have to compare 7 objects. You will use yourself, Earth, the Sun, and 4 other objects of your choice. They do not have to be planets. I will also give you more time to complete this since you have been away so much lately. No problem. I will go over everything with you tomorrow. Do what you can tonight.

To be honest I don't think i will be able to finish the project today because the french country project took too much time and I had to go to London Drugs to fill up my compass card and the worst thing was rush hour. I'll stay in at HW club at recess and lunch or even afterschool if thats fine with you.

@Mr. Hong I have learned how to use diameter and radius to make perfect circles using a pencil, a ruler, and paper. I will manage to complete this by using my time wisely by doing what is asked immediatly.

@ Chance - I would also order your objects from nearest to furthest from the sun if you haven't already done so. Also, you must give your sources for where you got your information and your images. I'm unsure if your sources are for one or the other. We can discuss this tomorrow.
