RELIGOUS SYMBOLS

Today, students continued working on repeating and terminating decimals in math. The last few concepts have been a little more challenging. Students are permitted to use calculators for some of their questions they are working on right now. In the afternoon, students continued reading from the Social Studies textbook and learning about belief systems, more specifically, their belief systems and symbols that represent their beliefs.

IMPORTANT:
1.) MATH: Unit test is planned for next Wednesday.
2.) WRITING: Essays are due next Wednesday.

Continue editing your essay based on your criteria handouts.
Ask siblings, friends, and your parents for feedback. You will have received more feedback from the teacher today. Improve your essay based on the feedback.
Email me if you want me to take another look at your essay to give you some feedback.
Essays will also be due next Wednesday.

3.) MATH:

Complete 3.9 in the textbook.
Complete any unfinished questions. Mark and correct at home.
You may use a calculator but you must show all your work!

Continue working on question #3 from pg. 109 (draw, colour, and label).
Complete what you can. This will likely take a few days to complete this question.
Complete any other assigned work from the teacher.

4.) POST A RESPONSE:

LEARNING INTENTION: I can create an individual C-Chart for my behaviour during lessons.
SUCCESS CRITERIA:
1.) PARAGRAPH FORMAT: intro/body/conclusion
2.) BODY: Must include at least 5 criteria points that help you stay focused during lessons.
3.) GIVENS: Spelling, capitals, punctuation, grammar, and sentence structure.
4.) SELF-ASSESSMENT: Complete a self-assessment based on the above criteria and post a sentence after your paragraph stating what you need to improve.
5.) PEER-ASSESSMENT: Read one other student's paragraph and add one point that you feel they may want to include in their personal C-Chart for 'DURING LESSONS'. BE RESPECTFUL AND KIND.
6.) REVISION: Post your revised paragraph based on your self/peer assessments.

Did you know that sometimes we obviously need to follow rules of c-charts? If you don’t what a c-chart is I would tell you right now. A c-chart is a board that can enable students to self regulate when you are walking down the halls, playing in the gym, and other things we commonly do in school. If a teacher is explaining something the c-chart would possibly say: I can listen without getting distracted and I can fully understand what to do. C-charts are important as it is definitely a self regulation practice sheet. I really know how to use c-charts as 5 moments happened before and these were included in the c-charts. I listened carefully when Mr. Hong taught me about order of operations, I know that I should stop dribbling when Mr. Fisher blows whistle, I never chat with somebody while lining up/walking in the hallways, I need to keep quiet during silent reading, and I mostly follow instructions that Mr. Hong has given me.

In conclusion c-charts are certainly a helpful way of staying self regulated as time goes on you will eventually become a person that does not get distracted or make any loud noises.

Behaviour during lessons is crucially important because that's when students learn the most. Therefore, this C-Chart for "during lessons" is essential to learn and follow. First of all, always actively listen when the teacher is teaching you something. This means students should be listening to the speaker, with their eyes and entire body looking/facing towards them as well. Furthermore, it's also important to avoid distractions around you, which is also part of active listening. What is a C-Chart? Essentially, a C-Chart, or Criteria Chart, is a list of rules or expectations to follow. Typically, these rules or expectations are meant to remind someone how to behave. If I were to make my own C-Chart for in-class behaviour, it would probably look something like this:

At this point, you may be wondering why I put these things on my C-Chart. To start, I put “Be open to others’ opinions/methods” because sometimes, when we have a substitute, and they do not do things as instructed by the original teacher, or make things up, I get frustrated. I can improve on this by putting myself in their shoes and trying to make sense of why they would do something in that way; perhaps the instructions were not clear to them, or they weren’t exactly sure what to do and were embarrassed to ask. Moving on, I wrote “Pay attention to the speaker whenever necessary” as my second point because sometimes, I zone out, or I do not pay attention when someone is speaking. This is disrespectful to the speaker, and irresponsible because afterwards, I may not know what to do. Thirdly, I wrote “Be patient and explain things carefully” because I can get frustrated when people do not understand when I explain something to them several times. This could be hard or stressful for the other person because it could make them feel that they should not ask anyone because it has already been explained to them. Next, in my fourth point, I wrote “Speak up/share your opinion with the class when appropriate.” I wrote this because I do not often share my opinion with the class, even when it could push others’ thinking. It could also push my own thinking if someone comments on what I said. Therefore, speaking up and sharing my opinion with others could push their thinking and my own. My last point, “Ask questions when needed,” is written because I sometimes feel that if I ask questions, others will think that I was not listening. However, if the instructions are not clear to me and I do not ask questions, I may complete the assignment incorrectly. If I ask questions, then I can clearly understand the assignment and complete it well. We all have things that we can improve, both in and out of school. If we put our minds to it, and try to make those improvements, we can.

C-Charts. What does it stand for? Well criteria charts of course! Criteria charts are charts that list rules and steps to follow to have very respectful and self regulating behaviour. They can be used anywhere, in school, at home, or even at a store! You may be wondering, "How do I make a C-Chart?". Well I'm glad you asked. You list things you expect from someones behaviour then you put an intention. For example, a C-Chart my class uses for during Lessons is:
1) Active listening
2)Respect others learning, environment and safety.
3)Stay on Task
4)Don't distract others
5) Ask questions
This criteria chart helps me a lot during lessons and always reminds me to focus on my learning and to always keep my eyes and ears open to what the teacher is explaining. C-Charts are a very good strategy for teachers to use to get their students to focus.

Moreover, C-Chart is like a guiding manual that have a set of regulation and expectations. A C-Chart I set for myself includes five main expectations. This is one for during lessons:

C-charts branch off into more specific categories such as "during class" or "during independent work time". Students co-create criteria charts so that students understand what they are doing and follow them. I'll be creating a c-chart for during lessons. Active criteria charts during lessons are critical because it's when the teacher gives out instructions and when the students learn. Therefore, following C-charts during lessons is essential to learning. The most important thing during lessons is active listening, this means not only students should listen, but they also are looking at the speaker and facing the speaker. Secondly, stay focused and don't get distracted, for example, don't fiddle with anything in your hand and ignore others when they are distracting you. Furthermore, don't call out during lessons and only speak when called, one can easily disturb the lesson if calling out. For example, when the teacher asked a question, instead of calling out randomly, raise your hand if you know the answer to the question. Being open to others' ideas and opinions is part of showing respect and SOARing. Let others share their ideas during class discussions and be open to them. Lastly, it's also important to ask questions when you don't understand something. It's essential to ask questions so you understand and are clear with the instructions. This is the C-chart I'm trying to follow during lessons. What other things should I put in this C-chart?

A C chart stands for criteria chart, it is a chart that has what you need to do to behave better. I have created a c chart of how I can improve better in class. First of all, I get distracted a lot so what I'm going to put on my first point is to "focus on my work". Next, I some times asks how to do something even though Mr. Hong already explained it a minute ago, so I am going to put "listen to others when they are talking". For my third point I put "respect other's opinions", because some times when someone else say something I don't agree with I get frustrated. After that, my forth point is to "not distract others". When I get distracted playing with a paper clip or something, I would show it to my table group and just start a conversation while the teacher is talking, so I will try to fix that. Last but not least, "procrastination". I will try my best to not procrastinate during class work time. I normally procrastinate during math like 40% of the time so I can do it at home with a calculator. But I know it is bad so I will try not to do that anymore. This is my c chart to behave in class, hopefully I can follow these during class.

C- Charts is one of the most essential to follow during lessons and even outside.
What is C-Chart? C-Chart is a list how to self-regulate during lessons and a lot of reasons. I know sometimes it’s hard to self-regulate especially your near to the person you know will make you laugh or can make you distracted easily.
What are the C-Charts that you need to follow during lessons?
First, you should self-regulate yourself during not regulating yourself is resulting a bad result that the teacher probably don’t want so we have to control ourselves, manage our voice levels. Second, During lessons you should pay attention to the person to the teacher, not the student who’s making noises and chatting around you, pay attention to the teacher who’s discussing during lessons and make sure that you don’t get distracted by your friends during lesson make sure to pay attention to the speaker/active listening. Third,raise your hand before speaking. You should raise your hand before speaking if you don’t raise your hand and you just called it out the speaker will feel disrespect or they feel disrespectful because you just called it out it’s not showing respect. Raising hand can make the speaker respected they will feel respected if you raise your hand and it can make less noise.
Fourth, don’t take out something or do something that can make you distracted. It doesn’t help you to be successful because once the teacher will start to teach you will feel also disrespected because you weren’t listening and wasn’t paying attention and also some teachers don’t repeat themselves if they know you’re not listening. Imagine if you got distracted you will missed a lof of essential info from the teachers. Fifth, you should ask a question if you don’t get something or if you don’t understand the speaker (Teacher, classmates). Asking a question can help you to be successful because you learn a lot of things. Why C-Charts are important here are some reasons why you should follow the C-Chart and why is it important. Having a C-Chart can reconstruct one self it can help you to be a good listener. Following a C-Chart is basically is like following your dreams because C-Chart can make yourself even better because you knew how to self-regulate during lessons.
