Thursday: Back to Basics - Multiplication

Unfortunately, I was at a district workshop today and I was unable to enjoy learning with all of you today! But no worries, tomorrow is a new day! A day full of excitement and enthusiasm for learning! :)

1.) FORMS
- Please bring any overdue forms. Look at yesterday's post if you can't remember which forms to bring.

2.) POST A RESPONSE: We can communicate with people in different ways. Social media has become a routine form of communication. In response to yesterday's first 'CLASS TWEET', we have received 55 retweets locally and internationally! We will send out replies in class tomorrow thanking everyone for their support! I'm estimating that at least 50,000 teachers/classes have seen our tweet. We will continue to monitor the tweet for one week to see how many people we can reach. If we are able to connect with students/teachers from many different countries, how do you think this could help us learn about people from different cultures?

@ Slender Man - I agree with your response. Having the ability to communicate with people from different areas of the world can teach us a lot. We can learn more about different languages and cultures.

For example, if we were to study Japan this year, it would be amazing to learn something about the Japanese language and also to learn about the different aspects of the Japanese culture from students in Japan. This would give us a better understanding of a culture that is different from our own.

Technology allows us to do this. Technology connects people from different areas of the world. Nowadays, it is so easy to communicate with people from half way across the Earth. Don't you love that this is possible? It truly is a 'Global Village' and the world seems to be getting smaller and smaller. :)

I honestly think that it is such a great opportunity to be able to have a teacher or class from the other side of the world to be able to communicate with us. We can learn about their language, and how teachers from another country teach their students. This can let us have the experience of our learning technique to improve. Think about it, if teachers came together and mashed up all their methods of teaching our learning ways would most probably improve. We can also learn different cultures in different country's, which would be so cool. We can still learn them without the communication, (With the power of the internet) but when you can communicate you can learn much, much more.

@ Pooh - Interesting point! This piggy backs on what we discussed in class about collaboration! Imagine if teachers from different countries could discuss their theories and ideas with one another. Guess what! It's happening right now! Social media connects people to share ideas! Teachers all around the world are communicating their knowledge with one another so their students can benefit from the collaboration!

In my opinion, being able to connect with other people around the world is an amazing thing! Firstly, you will be able to learn different things you didn't know before, because nobody knows everything. Secondly, it's cool to communicate with other people in different places. Lastly, we can see how other people do their work.

I think that we would learn about different cultures in many ways. By the teachers re-tweeting to our original post, they could tell us a little about their own cultures. The other teachers could also tell us about how they learn, and teach their students and if its more modern or the more basic way of teaching. I think it would be really nice seeing the tweets and collaborating with different schools around the world. It is also easier to communicate and learn from the other teachers via Twitter because they can easily show us things from where they live and, we could also show them and teach them a little bit of how we learn etc. Anyways, I'm really looking forward to this year with all the new things because we never got to do this in grade six (using a class Twitter account! ). :)

If a student had a negative attitude towards a specific cultural group, do you think learning more about this culture would help this person realize that he or she shouldn't hold these negative attitudes? I'd love to hear what you all think about this.
