Grouse Grind #2

The students completed Grouse Grind #2 today! We were lucky enough to receive excellent weather from mother nature today! It is currently 26 degrees celsius and there isn't a cloud in sight! I hope you all enjoyed the field trip today! It was a field trip about goal setting, physical endurance, stamina, and working together to reach any goal you set for yourself! Some of you wanted to enjoy the nature and beauty of the hike and some of you wanted to improve on your times from before! Either way, it was a job well done and I hope you all enjoyed the day! Also, be sure to bring your mobile device to school tomorrow to participate in the Hillcrest Amazing Race!

PARENTS: Thank you so much to all the parents who helped out with the field trip today!

1.) LA/NOVEL APPROACH:

Be sure to complete your powerful response. Remember, it is an assessment and I will assess your abilities based on the learning intentions of a powerful response.

2.) SCIENCE:

I took a look at all the Prezis that were shared with me directly from Prezi yesterday. However, there is still much work to do on them. Some of you have yet to even upload your images. If you are one of these groups, be sure to talk to your partner tonight to get as much done as possible.
You will have class time tomorrow to work on them.

3.) POST A RESPONSE:

Write a descriptive paragraph about your experience on Grouse Mountain today.
If you enjoyed it, tell your classmates about it. If you hated it, tell your classmates about it.
What did you reach a goal that you set for yourself?
How did you feel when you came out of the trees and finished the Grouse Grind?
Ask two students questions about their experience.
Respond to any questions you receive.

It was pretty good but they made it harder by adding more rocks. I wasn't able to beat my score last time I was 13 secs after it. I was planning to run with Aidan but he couldn't keep up with me and Jono and got left behind.about 1/2 way I ran out of water :(. At the top it was so nice to just sit down and eat some pizza. The best part for me was the lumber jack show it was great. As soon as I saw the end I screamed yes as loud as I could :).

I enjoyed myself on the grouse gring but it was really challenging but I am happy because I beat my old record so that is good. At the top it was really fun I had a burger nad really good smoothie. After me, Caleb. Liam, Col, Justin, DJ, Aidan, and Jono went around looking at the scenery and that type of stuff so it was cool. I did not reach my goal however I beat my old record by 10 minutes which is pretty decent so I can't complain. I felt really happy that I finished and I just wanted to go sit down enjoy food and talk with Caleb and Liam. I was happy that I beat my record maybe next time I will beat my record by 10 minutes than the last time I will beat it again by 1o minutes ;-)

It was tiring but fun it was hard because my foot went in between a rock and it twisted. I beat my time my old time was 1:50 And my new time was 1:26 I walked with Devin and then I left him because he was taking too many brakes and he was slowing me down the I walked with Calem to the to top. When I got to the top I had a Bacon cheeseburger then I went to the lumberjack show. I was so tired after that.

Today I quite enjoyed doing the Grouse Grind. I was happy with myself because I beat my old record by 10 minutes and I also beat my goal. My old record was 55 minutes and my new record is 45 minutes. The time that I wanted to beat was 50 minutes and I did end up beating it. When I could see the end, I got a burst of speed and ran to the top. It felt really good when I finished the Grouse Grind.

I loved the Grouse Grind and I hated it too, it was the a good and bad expeirence. In the first half of the mountain it was really easy and I went up pretty fast but the last half was really tiring and when I got to the top I was exhausted. In the end I was pretty happy because I beat my time by 40 minutes. My favourite part of the trip was all of it, climbing the mountain, finishing the grouse grind, beating my time, hanging out with my friends at the top, and the car ride home was all really fun.

Half of the quarter mark me and my dad ran out of water I was fun in tell the third quarter I was dieing I stop every 3-5 minutes and I had to carry my heavy backpack 3 qauters of the way. I hated the grouse grind I felt like it was never going end. I did not reach my goal or beat my last time because I waited for my dad and was carrying a heavy backpack. When came out of the trees I felt like dieing.

@ Everyone - I really enjoyed taking my daughter up the Grind today. I forgot how much she had grown since I took her last. She weighs a lot more than I thought she weighed! She hiked about half of the Grouse Grind and I carried her up the rest of the way! She was a champ!

I really enjoyed talking to the students at the top of the mountain and hearing how they had a great time! It is quite the accomplishment to be able to hike the entire Grouse Grind!

@Mr. Hong, great job on hiking the mountain as well, as your daughter! However, I wonder how your duaghter climbed huge stairs that are almost the size of her? She did a great job! And so did you! And thank you for organizing this feild trip, it was really fun!

At first I was hiking with my friends and then after a while with them, I got ahead of myself and kind of ditched them because they were taking so long. I liked it a bit but hated it even more because afterwards your body aches a lot and it is tough to keep going without stopping. I was bummed out because I forgot to ask for my time so I guess I will do that tomorrow. When me, Omar, Sean, and Tristan finished the grind off, no one really cheered for us so I just felt relief to be finished with it. My legs were in pain and stiff for about 15 minutes before I got to go do anything! All in all I guess it wasn't that bad. The only thing is, is that I had to do the grouse grind, walk home, play soccer at soccer practice and then go to bed only to get up again bright and early in the morning for school tomorrow. WHAT. A. DAY! 8[ :] :()

"Yes! The first girl, and the 6th person to make it to the top!". This is what Ive said when I made it to the top. Firstly, I had a great time at Grouse Grind because, it was really fun climbing and listening to music that makes me have more energy to run. I also liked, Grouse Grind because, we had a great time watching the lumberjack show and seeing the grizzly bears. However, the bears were sleeping which I didnt get to see them as close. With this in mind, the lumberjack show was great because, it was funny and it was entertaining to watch. And guess what! It took me 49 minutes to get to the top! However, I was hoping to make it to 30 minutes to the top. But, im sure that if I go again with my dad, Im sure that I can make it! Lastly, I felt great coming to the top because, I was the first girl and the 6th person to make it to the top! I also felt, like great because, the first term trip I did I got 1 hour and 8 minutes but, now I made it to 49 minutes! Did you have a good time at Grouse Grind?

I enjoyed and hated the grouse grind both at the same time. It was fun because I we got to see the lumberjack show and watch bears. But I also hated it because it was very tiring to get to the top of the mountain. I finished with a time of 1 hour and 29 minutes and when I got to the top I was so happy that I was finally finished and was really hungry. I didn't reach my goal that I set for myself but I beat my old time by about 25 minutes next time I'll try to beat this time too.

Well, since I didn't go today (Which is sad) I'm just going to share my personal experience from last year or at the beginning of the first school term. I was really excited to go up and I couldn't wait to go for a second time. I was really hoping to go for a second time last year in Grade 6 but due to the teacher strike the Grouse Grind was cancelled. Anyways, going up the Grouse Mountain is an amazing experience for people that are 11 or 12. I really enjoyed the hike therefore I love going up mountains now and from now on when I say. "I feel like hiking a mountain", I literally mean it. I will hike one if I can. Also, I accomplished my first goal but not my second goal which was to beat 50 minutes or higher just like my goal right now. When you first past the last part of the trees, you get that amazing feeling that makes you want to shout out, "I DID IT!" and just relax for 4 hours at the top and this amazing experience would stay with you for almost forever.

I started out first with Hailey and then she wanted to wait for jessica and jenna so i waited with her :)
After that they were going really fast and i was a little lazy and didnt want to run up the mountain so i stayed with chae eun and kavishka, we hiked up to the 1/2 - 3/4 mark then i lost them. I then went up with a girl named minji and she was litterly dying. I pushed her to go up longer and all went very well.
I didnt beat my time today but i did pace my self and made a nice easy hike up the mountain.

" Im going to vomit." Yes, these are the words that came our of my mouth. It was not because I was super tired or anything and I love the Grouse Grind but this time... was not as fun. The reason I said this is because I was actually going to puke. In my backpack a container of cucumbers were in there because Im guessing they fell out of my lunch kit. But, they did not fall our recently. Im guessing a month- two months that they wherein there. Yuck. So anyhow the container lid came off and the cumbers were mush and the liquid that smelt so awful I just CANT describe it went everywhere in my backpack getting on my food, water, jacket, etc. So, I did not have any water or food. But, to make things worse the liquid that leaked in my backpack got all over me so I smelt of it. After I had enough when I was past the 1/2 way mark I asked a friend if they could take it up for me. And being the nicest person they were, they did. But, when I did not have the backpack on my the horrid smell and liquid was on me so I still wanted to vomit. Then, it came to a point when I had to so I... swallowed it. Ewwwwww.
As I am typing all I can smell/taste is that liquid/smell and I took a shower for an hour scrubbing it off me. So, I will never eat cucumbers again. Unfortunately, because I was feeling so sick, I did not reach my goal :-( . But, when I came through the trees it was like hallelujah because I could run to the bathroom and then get food and water. So, now you know my experience on the Grouse Grind #2 wasn't so great. But enough about me, how did you like it?

The grouse grind was nice yet tiring, I enjoyed things and did not enjoy others. I enjoyed finishing at the top and exploring things like the lumberjack show and the bear habitat. I also liked how it improved my level of fitness and how after 6 months I grew fitter and physically and my time improved by 10 mins. I did not like how once you are on the grind after about 150 meters you can't go back no matter what because there is no downhill walking therefore no matter what happens you cannot go back without an emergency. Overall the grind was O.K. but I prefer the gym despite it being less effective.

I prefer the gym because you have a choice to exercise certian muscles and on the grind once you start there is no stopping since you can't turn back. The grind is also less efficient because it is mostly exercising your legs and not much else, although it makes you start sweating 5 minutes in.

To start off, I was super pumped to go up but I also really wanted to beat my record of 54 minutes and something seconds. Also I could say the view was really nice going up but that would lying to myself and everyone else because you could not see a thing except the trail, the people in front and behind and the trees you couldn't see a thing through them. I was wasn't even at the quarter mark when I started saying to myself "Only a little farther ". Then I noticed the half way point and just stared a little then made a big sigh and continued. When I got to the top I was so tired because I didn't want to stop to have water but, I guess I should have because when I got to the top I almost fainted but I was fine after I ate and finished my water bottle in no time flat. Lets just say next I'll just stay at home or at the gym with Billy Bob!

At first, I went up with Jenna, Hailey, and Laura but as we started to get to the 1/4 mark Jenna was going too fast so she left us. Then after the three of us were walking but then Hailey was going too slow so we kind of left her since I wanted to beat my goal. Then when we got up to the 1/2 mark we decided that we should take pictures and explore a bit so we did. My time was 1 hour and 51 minutes and I beat my goal whcih was to get it under 2 hours. I think that we would've gotten a better time if we didn't stop so much to take pictures and explore. I actually don't mind the grouse grind, it feels great when you find out how high you hiked up the mountain but after you get home and rest, your muscles become really sore and the way up is tiring and sweaty. When I got to the top I literally kissed the rocks and threw my bag down then sat down. I also figured out that the grouse grind wasn't over..because WE STILL HAD STAIRS TO GET UP TO THE FOOD. It was a great experience though.

I enjoyed the grouse grind a lot. At first I stopped a lot but as I went further I stopped less. I did not reach my goal. I felt accomplished when I finished the grouse grind.

It was okay. I wouldn't do it again but it wasn't as bad as I have remembered. The worst part for me is going down the gondola because as you may now I'm terrified of heights! I hate it!

This time was my favorite grouse grind. It was hard but it was fun to climb the mountain with my friends. I was happy because I beat my old record by 30 minutes. My old record was 2 hours and half and new record was 2 hours. When I was in the end I could heard people screaming so I ran to the top. I was proud of myself when I finished.

I had a lot of fun on my first Gouce Grind it was amassing. I was sweating and dieing when I started. Ethan,Omar,Tristan and me started at first it was realy hard i keeper drinking water and drink and had a cramp form a minute. But at 1/4 me and Eathan went after form Omar and Tristan because they took way to long so me an Ethan went up 1/2 way the we met cole and some one else so we went on for the whole trip. It took us about 1 hour and 40 minutes. Me and Ethan got some frice they were sooooo tasty then I went to the gift show and bot a ring I was so happy I also help out Scot who need a dollar for a stuffed animal I was proud I was so happy going on the Gouce Grind.

It seemed harder because they added more rocks for a challenge. When I started I took a lot of breaks then later on I took less breaks. I didn't beat my old record which was 1 hour and 30 minutes my time was for this one 1 hour and 56 minutes. When I got to the top I hung out with Ethan And Vish at the bears and the lumber jack show.
