Potential and Kinetic Energy

Today, the students learned more about potential and kinetic energy. They learned that potential energy is stored energy and kinetic energy is energy in motion. They came up with a variety of examples in class to show they understood the difference. The most unique example I saw of potential energy include a medieval catapult. When a roller coaster reaches the top of the tracks, it has potential energy. When it travels downward, it has kinetic energy because it is in motion.

1.) MATH 6: Pg 263 #1-13
MATH 7: Pg 212 - 213 Remainder of questions, Mid Chapter Review to prepare for test, MID CHAPTER QUIZ ON MONDAY (Area and perimeter of squares, rectangles, triangles, parallelograms, etc)

2.) SOCIAL STUDIES:

Your statistics/data, sources, and reasons why they are reliable are all due tomorrow. You must have this ready to hand in at the beginning of the day.
If you have any questions, refer to your criteria sheet and/or ask questions here.

3.) NOTICES:

Castle Fun Park forms are due.

4.) REPORT CARTS:

You will receive them on Monday.

5.) POST A RESPONSE:

Based on this video and what you learned in class today, explain potential energy and kinetic energy in your own words.
Give one example of each that was not discussed in class or in the video.
Comment/Ask questions/Give descriptive feedback to at least 2 students.
Respond to any feedback you receive.

Potential energy is energy that is stored, for example, a lighter has potential energy because it does nothing except the gasoline uses the energy when you rub the flint and fire comes.

Kinetic energy is energy of movement, for example, if I throw a ball while the ball is in the air it is using potential energy, the ball has no energy but it does when a force makes it move.

Kinetic Energy: Kinetic Energy is the Energy of motion E.G. a windmill has Kinetic Energy.

Potential Energy: Potential Energy is stored Energy E.G. a bow and arrow has stored energy before it shoots.

Potential: Energy that is stored in an object until needed like batteries, catapults, ect. Kinetic: Energy that comes from things that move like dogs, humans, ect.
1. A plane has potential energy, it's engines hold fuel or gas but it will not move until the plane is turned on by the captain. Then it will move or even start to fly and you can get to your detestation safe and sound hopefully.

2. A animal has kinetic energy, animals need to move to stay alive if they don't they will most likely die or be badly injured since the blood won't flow in there body.

Potential energy means something that is isn't doing anything and kinetic energy means something that is doing something. what we didn't talk about in class was that we could se a machine for example to dig a tree out we could use a escalator to help and with a friend we could ask him to help us move on of those benches that are in the gym also with a animal it could help us carry a horse trailer. And with an electric motor like a electric car I could use it to get places that are far.

both Potential, and Kinetic energy are very common states of energy.

Potential energy is when something is at rest with no movement but is able to have kinetic energy. For example; say there is a dog that is sleeping so it is not moving, this is potential energy.

Kinetic energy is when energy comes from movement for example; The dog from before would now be running which is a type of movement, thus becoming kinetic energy.

Potential Energy is energy that is stored up and waiting for it to be used. Example car has potential energy when it is stooped or turned off.

Kinetic Energy is energy that is has movement. Example car driving down the road.

POTENTIAL ENERGY: Potential energy is when some is not moving for example when you sleep you aren't moving unless something moves you. Kinectic energy is like when you wake up you start to move around and get out your bed.

KINECTIC ENERGY:
Kinectic energy is where something starts to move with energy. Like a rocket. It starts to charge ( Potential energy ) and it blasts into the air that is kinetic energy. There is kinectic energy everywhere for example you typing the your post. Your thumbs starts to move thats kinectic energy.

Potential energy and kinetic energy has only one difference. Potential energy is something that doesn't move. Kinectic energy is something that does move.

Potential energy is when an object is still and is not producing energy, but it still has the ability to produce energy once it moves. Kinetic energy is when the object starts moving and it is producing energy. For example, a balloon has potential energy because when it is not blown up it is still, but, when you blow it up and let go of it it is kinetic energy because it is moving.

Potential energy is when some has energy but it needs to be acted on by an outside force. For example a person has potential energy because when your sleeping you have potential energy and when you get up its kinetic energy.

Kinetic energy is when something has the ability to move with energy like a sky train would be both kinetic and potential because when its at the station it's at rest but when it's time to go the train runs on electrical cords which makes the train move.

Potential energy:

Potencial energy is stord energy. For example, a battery is an example of potemtial energy because, there is energy inside. If you connect a battery to a decive the device will start to work.

Kinetic Energy:

Kinetic energy is an oblect being able to give a force to something else, when its moving. For example, If I drop a rock on a glass, it breaks because of the energy inside the rock when it was falling.

kinetic energy is when a object is moving or is doing anything. This happens when some force is applied for example if a heavy metal object comes down a hill and hits car the heavy car will move a little bit because a force is being acted on it.

1. Potentail energy is when energy is in rest. For example think of it as 2 modes working mode and non-working mode now non-working mode's offical term will be Potential energy. Now a simple example is a bike. Right now the bike is parked.

2. Kenitic Energy: Now that brings us right to kenitic energy. Think of kenitic energy as the working mode. So sa the bike is parked thats potential energy now I hope on the bike and pedal now it is kenitic energy.

Potential Energy is a way of energy being preserved by not moving, or by not doing any sort of action, this term is also used for objects. For example, a box is preserving its energy (Potential Energy) by not moving, but when you kick the box using acceleration or movement to push it with force, the box will move which is using energy, or as we call Kinetic Energy.

Kinetic Energy is when an object or person starts to move around using it's energy, which means it is no longer using it's potential energy, and now using its Kinetic Energy. To continue from my other example, Kinetic Energy is being used after the box has been kicked and has switched from Potential Energy to Kinetic Energy.

Sorry for posting so late but I hope I get feedback!

Kenetic Energy: Is when an object or person starts trying to move around using it's energy, which means it is no longer using it's potential energy. Basically from the video it's like the rock that fell. The rock had no energy after it's collision but did you see what happened before? The bigger rock gained altitude and smashed the smaller rock in two. This is because of the bigger rocks form of shape and weight. The smaller rock had less weight and shape as the bigger rock. The bigger rock was using kenetic energy and then after it was using potential energy.

Potential Energy: Is a way of energy being preserved by not moving or by not doing any sort of action. This term is also used for objects. So basically it is if you were to gain altitude to move the rock. If you kicked it, before you made contact with the rock you were using potential energy by not moving. Then as you started to move you started using kenetic energy and moved the rock. (And probably broke your toe.) So for another example, say there was this box that read "You stink like trash and mixed up apple sauce." You would wanna kick that box flying wouldn't you? Well to do so you need potential energy, to not move and then when you start charging at the box with a baseball bat in hand, you would start using kenetic energy. Then finally you kick the box with such anger that it goes up in the air. You swing at it with the base ball bat and then the box goes into splinters. Happy? Feed back please as soon as possible dear friends! (Yes I wrote this not my really sweet Grandma!) :()

Kinetic energy is when an object can use its energy without an outside force. For example a timer can time somebody without using an outside force.

@ Teddy Bear, I totally get your definitions! Great post! In your first paragraph you should say

" Potential energy is when an object has the ability to move unless force is applied to it."

In your second you should say

"Kinetic energy is when an object move or accelerates without any force being applied to it. For example, say there is a large airplane. It has large amount of kinetic energy because it is moving fast and turned on so it is using energy but when its not turned on it is potential energy.

Potential energy is when the is something that has the capability of releasing energy. It is also when something that has energy is at rest. To illustrate, if there is a basketball on the ground it is not going to move unless an outside force is acted upon it.

Kinetic energy is when an object is releasing and using it energy. For example, if you pick up and shoot a basketball that is using its energy. If you have not moved the basketball, it is called potential energy. If you have picked it up and thrown it, then it is kinetic energy.

Potential energy:
Potential energy is when something is stored that wants to release the energy to make some sort of a movement, it is also a energy that stays. For example, if I am on top of Mount Everest on my snowboard I have potential energy because, I want to release the energy and do the same thing again.

Kinetic energy:
Kinetic energy is when you make a movement that is released from the stored potential energy. For example, if I was on top of Mount Everest snowboarding down, I am using kinetic energy because, I am moving.
