Everyone has been working hard on their reading activities for the Novel Approach. Mr. Fisher and I are happy to see that you are using your reading strategies to help you better understand your stories. In addition to this, you have all been collaborating really well with one another during your book clubs. Keep up the good work! Tuesday will be your next book club session!

1.) MATH: Complete pg 293-295 of textbook if you haven't completed it yet.

2.) NOVEL APPROACH:

Complete readings, gift of words, and thinking and learning questions so you are prepared for your next book club discussion.
Do not leave this until Monday night. If you do, you will not be prepared for your book club discussion on Tuesday.
Manage your time wisely. Divide your work up so you do a little today, a little tomorrow, and the rest on Monday.

3.) POST A RESPONSE:

The end of the year is fast approaching. Many of you are looking forward to going to high school.
In paragraph form, write about 2 things you are looking forward to and 2 things you will miss next year.

Time files, it's already been four years since I came to Canada. I went from a grade four student to a grade seven student ready to graduate. As a grade seven student, I am super excited and ready(?)to go to high school. I get to have my own locker, I can walk around and go to different classrooms for different classes, I'll make new friends, and I'm going to be doing a lot of art. Plus I am too tall to stay in elementary for another year. All these stiff might just be small changes, but that's what make high school different, isn't it? Even through high school seems attracting, there're stuff I'll miss in elementary school. First, homework. You might ask why in the world would you ever miss your homework? But you should know that high school comes with a bunch of homework, a lot more than elementary school. In that case, I'll probably chose to still be in elementary school. Second, I'll miss my friends! Since I'm not going to Churchills, I'll probably be all alone in a different high school. Anyways, I think high school's going to be a lot of fun, and I'm really looking forward to it.

Wait, it’s almost the end of the year!? Wow, high school is just around the corner too. I’m going to miss this... teachers and staff, the things that created the worst and best memories for me and I guess the careless mistakes. Okay, maybe not the careless mistakes, I need to leave that one behind. I guess you could say I’m excited. It means I’m one step closer to becoming an adult, but it also means that I have to suffer more. I’m looking forward to a lot of things, actually being able to experience the “older” life. Don’t judge, I actually need to know what goes on there so I know what to write. I need to the perspective of a high schooler so that my short stories don’t get all weird. Heh, that’s pretty much it.

Wait, it’s almost the end of the year!? High school is only a few months away!? I guess I’m going to miss a few things... (and people). I guess I’m going to miss whatever and whoever made me happy. Getting A’s, teachers and staff, some random careless mistakes. Actually I take that back, those careless mistakes broke me. What I’m actually looking forward to is being able to finally experience what it’s like in high school. Don’t judge me but I need to know this stuff to write random stories, I can’t just get all my ideas from other books or people! Technically I can just list that because that works for a lot of things. Speaking of stories, I have so many things to catch up on! There’s this book about..... blah blah blah blah.

Yes, that was my conclusion sentence.

The end of the year is fast approaching. I will miss the playground and less homework because I don't like homework and the playground is fun to play on. I'm looking forward to more freedom and my birthday because its on September which is in high school so technically it counts. I'd rather go to high school though, because everyone says it's so much better.

My P.A.R.
Right now we are at the top of the hill but once we go to high school we'll be back to the bottom. High school is just steps away. I can't wait until I'm in grade eight. I get my own locker, I meet new people and every subject has a different teacher. I don't want to leave Laurier though. I'll miss all the teachers and staff especially Mr. Hong, Mr. Fisher and Ms. Golby. Thank you to all teachers and staff for this wonderful time at Laurier. I'll always come back and visit.

High School is WAY better than elementary school. There are many reasons:
1.) You don't have a teacher watching your every move
2.) You can ACTUALLY HAVE FUN
3.) You are not completely controlled by a teacher
4.) You are not treated like an idiot
5.) You are allowed to make and join clubs
6.) You can choose your classes
7.) You don't "have to" do anything
8.) You have the right to say no,unlike elementary school
9.) You go on more field trips
10) I will ace french
The two things I am looking forward to most is the field trips and the food.

But there are things I will miss too.One thing I will really miss is the easy homework,because the homework in elementary school is crazy easy. It takes me like 20 seconds to whip through a worksheet. In high school it will probably take 20 minutes per QUESTION. Sooooo yeah. The second thing I will miss is the PAR. I know it sounds cheesy but I like it more than some laggy boring homework.So yeah.

High school Hurrah or Noooooo? That's a question I once asked Ethan and KM. So I`m suprised that the par today was EXACTLY what I asked myself 2 weeks ago.

Before I can make my decision,I will have to first explain high school. There are 8 courses that you will have to take.

1.) APPLIED SKILLS 8
Where you will learn business and cooking and do some cool computer project that will further build on what Mr.Hong will teach us this year

2.) ENGLISH 8
In English 8 we focus on developing the fundamentals of oral and written composition, and we begin a
formal study of literature. We read short stories, plays, poetry, and novels. We practice various
informal and formal styles of writing, such as journals, paragraphs, and essays. Each student in
English 8 will take part in an annual school-wide public speaking competition.

3.) MATHEMATICS 8
Ah,who could forget classic math.
There will be 11 topics covered

1. Integers and Rational Numbers 7. Exponents and the Pythagorean Theorem
2. Decimals and Real Numbers 8. Geometry
3. Ratio and Rate 9. Equations
4. Percent 10.Statistics and Probability
5. Perimeter, Area and Volume 11. Patterns and Relations
6. Problem Solving

4PHYSICAL EDUCATION 8
Physical Education is a required course for all Grade 8 students. The curriculum emphasis is on
personal health goals, fitness concepts and skill acquisition through individual, dual, and team sports.
Activities will include a selection of the following:
swimming badminton basketball gymnastics tennis
dance skating wrestling volleyball lacrosse
softball golf archery active health soccer/rugby
touch football minor games field hockey team handball self defence
weight training orienteering bowling billiards track and field
fitness/conditioning cross country run

5.SCIENCE 8
Science 8 is an inquiry based course using a hands-on learning approach. Emphasis is placed on the
nature of science, placed-based knowledge (including aboriginal perspectives), conceptual and
procedural knowledge, habits of mind and scientific literacy. The program consists of core
competencies, curricular competencies, and big ideas. Big ideas are themes that encompass
more specific content and optional elaborations.
Core competencies are: sets of intellectual, personal, and social and emotional proficiencies that all
students need to develop in order to engage in deep learning and life-long learning.
Curricular competencies are: questioning and predicting, planning and conducting, processing and
analyzing data and information, evaluating, applying and innovating, communicating.
Big ideas are:
1. Cells are the basic unit of life.
2. Energy can be transferred as both a particle and a wave.
3. The kinetic molecular theory and the theory of the atom explain the behaviour of matter.
4. The theory of plate tectonics is the unifying theory that explains Earth’s geological processes.

6.SOCIAL STUDIES 8
Although much of Social Studies 8 stresses history, geographic skills and current events are integrated
throughout the curriculum. The areas of study include:
1. Basic World Geography: cartography, urbanization, environmental impact,
2. World History (7th – 1600 CE): trade of goods and ideas, gender relations, religion, literature,
disease and health, art and contact conflict
a. Rise and Fall of Ancient Empires
b. Feudal Societies and Crusades
c. Renaissance and Enlightenment
d. Reformation and Counter Reformation
3. Exploration: navigation and cartography
4. Current Events
7.FRENCH 8
Emphasis will be on listening, speaking and writing through the use of books, CDs, films and websites.
You will be involved in several projects and oral presentations aimed at reinforcing and increasing
vocabulary and sentence structure. This course provides the foundation for further study of the
language, development of some oral skill, and an awareness of the culture and customs of Frenchspeaking
peoples in the world.
HEALTH AND CAREER EDUCATION
In grades 8 and 9 Health and Career Education topics are covered in most of your ‘regular’ courses
and they would include: healthy living, healthy relationships, safety and injury prevention, and
substance misuse prevention.

Bye bye Elementary.... Fresh year, and a fresh start. High School is two months away and obviously I'm not ready yet. There's just so many things that you'll miss and look forward to. One thing that I'll miss is the school and teachers. I've moved from Laurier annex to Laurier Main and I've missed what it was like there. I already got used to this school and it's sad to say I'm not going here anymore. Another thing I'll miss is homework here. High School has a lot of homework and I'm not able to escape that for the next 5 years. But what I AM looking forward to is getting the experience of High School. I've never been in the halls of such a big place and yet I will be soon. Last thing is that I'm looking forward to making new friends. There are so many new people that are enrolling in each year and I'll be able to meet more new people in my life. Other than me missing everything, I honestly am looking forward to experience what it's like in my life for the next 5 years.

I will also miss my other friends who might be moving to another school, or maybe even leaving the country. I am really looking forward to the Churchill track and field program because I really like running. I also really want to be in a good math class.

High school scares me a lot. "Ahhhh." When I start high school will there be anyone I know? Will I have friends? Well well. I will be telling you about 2 things I will miss and 2 things I look forward to.

First I will miss all my teachers and friends as well especially Mr.Hong because he is the best teacher ever.

Second,I will miss my friends that might move to another high school because I won't see them as much as I do normally, like everyday.

I will be looking forward to my classes especially math because I love math and it is so awesome. Also I will be looking forward to the Churchill Track and Field team because I also love running since it is active instead of being lazy.

Yay! It’s almost the end of the year! Next year, I’ll be going to high school. There are a lot of things I’m looking forward to. Such as, we’ll all get our own lockers and school starts at 8:35am. We will also go to different classrooms and we will have different teachers for different subjects. Wearing a gym strip in PE is mandatory not optional. I’m also looking forward to the Synergy camp in September and the science fairs. We get to be in a science fair competition! In the Synergy program, we will do more presentations, group work, and debate. It will be challenging, but I am really excited. Of course there still are things that I will miss from elementary school. For example, all of the teachers, staff, and the memories and experiences that I had with them. I miss my friends who have played, helped, and worked together with me for a few years. Additionally, I will miss the PAR because it has been such a great opportunity to bond with all of my classmates and to get to know them. Checking the PAR a couple times daily has become my routine. Mr. Hong, don’t be surprised if I post something there in the future as a former student because I’m so used to it. I will always treasure my memories and look forward to new opportunities.

High school sounds so scary to me. Although I really don't know what to expect because I've partially established the fact that it's nothing like how it's portrayed in the movies I've watched. I'm really, really looking forward to going to high school. New friends, more freedom, there are so many plus sides of high school, but it also means more homework, and you having to run around from class to class, completely lost. Two things I'm looking forward to in high school are being able to make new friends, and being able to join clubs that the high school can offer. Of course, there are a few things I'm not looking forward to as much. I don't know how I'm going to survive the first day of school, between finding my classes in such a huge school, to not knowing any teachers. I'm really freaked out about how much larger high schools are compared to elementary schools. They have up to 4 floors, filled with classes. How am I going to know where things are?

There’s only a few more months ‘till high school, and half of me wants to celebrate, and half of me wants to curl up in a ball, and stay there for eternity. I’m torn between missing laurier, being terrified of highschool, and looking forward to Churchill. Two thing’s I’ll miss for sure are, the low amounts of stress, that come with being in elementary school, and only having one teacher/one classroom to be in. However, on the other hand two of the many things I’ll look forward to are, making new friends/meeting new people, and having more freedom. I get a locker, and I can choose what clubs to join and ahhh!~ Sorry Mr. Hong, and every other teacher I’ve had, but I can't help but be happy to leave this place.

I'm going to be starting a new chapter of my life next year, and I'm not sure if I should be excited or nervous. In my opinion, going from elementary school to high school is a pretty big transition. I will definitely miss some things about elementary school. For example, elementary school starts at 9:00 am and high school starts at 8:45 am. I'm obviously going to miss school starting at 9:00 am since I'm not a morning person. Although, I do wake up early. Another thing I'm going to miss about elementary school is having one teacher. In high school, I will have to travel from class to class and not be late for each one. In each of those classes, I'll have a different teacher and not just one. Besides everything that I'm going to miss about elementary school, I'm looking forward to high school. One thing that I'm looking forward to is meeting new people. When I move to Churchill I'll have the opportunity to meet people from lots of different schools; whereas when I moved to Laurier I only had the opportunity to meet Laurier students. Who knows, maybe I'll even see a person from Dickens (my old school). Another thing I'm looking forward to is all of the clubs. There are so many opportunities to join all kinds of different clubs. I think you can all guess what club I would want to join. Overall, high school is going to be a pretty interesting experience for me. So yeah, those are my thoughts on going to high school next year.

Wow highschool is already coming up! Yup I'm not ready! Yeah I'm excited but.... I'm really gonna miss school... But I'm super pumped for high school! The great things that are about to happen! Own lockers, clubs and loads of people! Well it's gonna be annoying to move class to class every hour and to be in a class with my friends. I'm kind of nervous but super excited at the same time!

Highschool? Already??? Time flies so fast that you don't even notice. I will miss so much things like the playground my friends, teachers, and much more.

Two things I'm looking forward to is the clubs and the cafeteria. I'm looking forward to these things because I have never been to and never done it. I really want to know what people usually do in the cafeteria and what the different types of clubs there are.

Two things I'm going to miss is....... it might not even be two because it's everything. I'm going to miss the teachers, the easy work, the library, the gym, the performances, my friends, and many many more. I might not even be ready for it.

I honestly don't know why people are so excited going to high school. I don’t see how that’s exciting. Once I go to high school, I’ll miss so many things from elementary school. I can’t become Doctor Who and go back in time so unfortunately I’ll have to deal with these things. Some of my friends aren’t even going to Churchill. The only way I can keep in touch is by social media. It wouldn’t be the same though. I’m also going to miss the amount of homework. In high school I’ll probably get a whole stack of homework. I might even stay up till 3. My head already hurts with only 7 hours of sleep. How can I survive with 4 or 5 hours of sleep? I would even have to get up earlier because my mom told me to she’s not going to drive me to school next year. Thankfully there are some things I can look forward next year to make up for the things I’ll miss. There’s going to many people there so hopefully I can make some friends. Then school wouldn’t be boring anymore. Another thing I’m looking forward to is the clubs. There are various types of clubs at Churchill. I can hopefully find what I’m passionate about and have lots of fun at the clubs. I’m honestly dredging for this school year to end and going to high school. I have many more reasons to miss elementary school than to go the high school. Hopefully I can survive next year.

Woah, is it just me or is grade 7 just passing by like a fly. Like most grade 7 students, I will be attending high school. So in this paragraph, I will be sharing my opinion on what I am looking forward to and not looking forward to.
First off, I'm looking forward to the classes themselves. Since high school is very different then elementary school. So I am very excited to learn how high school works.
Secondly, I'm looking forward to going home by myself. The reason I say this is because every day my dad comes to pick me up at a specific time and place, but when I'm in high school I get to go on the bus and bus home. Plus I can go home with my other friends that live in Richmond
Now for the things that I'm not looking forward to.
Waking up early. In elementary school, school starts at 9am but in high school it starts at like 8:30 am. Which means I have to wake up at like 7am and leave at 7:40 am to get to school on time and early. If I still lived in Vancouver this wouldn't be a problem, but since I live in Richmond, it is tougher.
Homework: In high school, you cannot deny that there is more homework to do than elementary school. Plus there will be stress on the amount of homework at high school.
Despite the pros and cons of high school, I think my years in high school will be fun. Until (or course) the finals.

I'm so excited for high school! Can't wait for the Grade 8 basketball team. I hope I can make it cause basketball is one of the only sports I play. So without basketball I probably wouldn't be doing anything active. Another I'm excited for is all the new friends I might meet. I don't even know if I will make new friends cause I'm kinda socially awkward. But for sure I'm gonna give it a shot. Lastly, I'm excited to meet all the new teachers and things I'm gonna learn from them. Hope my teachers like me or else I'm going have a rough year in high school. But there are certainly things I will miss about elementary school. Friends and teachers. Friends are the best. They make you laugh and help you get through times of trouble. I honestly like being at school more than home. At home there's no one to talk to, but at school I have the time of my life. It's like time flies when I'm school. It's like what people say, "when you're having fun, time flies". I would like to thank all the teachers for such a great year. You guys help plan events for us so we have a fun time at school. You teach us everything we need in our everyday lives. Math, English, Science and the list goes on. But most importantly you taught us how to self regulate. Without self regulation I probably wouldn't be able to return to a ready to learn state. I really appreciate all that you guys have done for us. Thank you.

Unconsciously, we are all going to high school next year,what is your feeling? Happy? Sad? I am quite excited and sad,maybe you have the same feeling as me,let me talk more about my feeling or what am I looking forward and what I will miss next year. Let me first talk about what am I looking forward in high school. I am actually really excited because it is a new place for all of us and maybe I will get lost in the school,will I? Many people said that high school will be more challenging than elementary school, that is definitely correct because when we grow bigger and bigger,we will get more challenging things. I really want to challenge myself and I want to learn something new that I haven't learn in elementary. Secondly,I really look forward to make new friends,in a new school,there must be new friends and I really wanted to make friends with them. My mum always said that to me 'Did you make any new friends at school?' She asked this question for many time, when I was grade 1,when I first came to this school and she always ask this question, so I really want to make new friends and find out what are our same hobbies and we can do it together,I think that might be fun. So what are you looking forward in high school? So let's talk about what will I miss about. The first thing I think everyone will probably miss and it is friends. Since I came to Canada for only one year and I get new friends in this school but some of them are not going to the same school so I will really miss them,I will always remember the time that we have fun in class but hopefully we can see each other too in high school. The next thing I will miss is the P.E. classes, I really enjoy having P.E. lesson in elementary school,when we are all in high school, I don't think we have much time to play games like 'stones' or other sports that I really like,so I really hope that we get more time to go outside and play in this last year in elementary.

I will be happy, but also I will be sad because I miss all of you and some of you aren't going to Churchill. I will miss you, people. Also I will get more homework and I don't like it. Maybe it won't be as much as China's schools have, But still the less the merrier. I am sad now I will miss all of you!

When you’re graduating soon, you won’t believe it. Am I really grade 8 now? The year when I get to have my own locker and rush around to get to different classes? Well yes. And there are always pros and cons to high school. Since I’m not familiar with high school, I can only point out 2 reasons for why high school is good or bad and the things I’ll enjoy and.. Despise in general. Here we go! As we all know, having a locker is amazing. You get to decorate the insides and hope that someone doesn’t change your lock. My second pro is the clubs and extra curricular things happening in school. I’m hoping there would be a Kpop club somewhere in the school~ what I really dread is that the school work would be harder and school will start earlier. It’s practically a full day of school if you think of it my way. Which is eat, sleep for 5 hours, and then work. I really hope high school life isn’t boring. Let’s all hope that we get through these years quicker and happier!

When I graduate, I'll be missing a few things.

Firstly, I'll be missing the feeling of being old. Let me explain, when I'm in grade 7 I'm the oldest in the school and kind of feel empowered. When I go to grade 8, that feeling will vanish and instead I'll feel like I'm the youngest; think of it as leveling up and then restarting the game. And of course, I'll be missing the teachers. I feel like the general attitude of teachers in high school would be worse than it is here.

I am looking forward to going to high-school mainly because I want to 'expand' into a bigger school. I like meeting new people and I'm curious about the experience of high school. And that's it, I couldn't think of the second one.

Elementary is gone soon, so where will I go next? "High school! The land of wonders, where everyone has a great time!" No, no, no. You've got it all wrong anonymous speaker. Not EVERYONE has a great time. However I'll make sure I do, and there are actually thing I'm looking forward to. First, I'm looking forward to the lockers, and to be honest I'm not 100% sure why. I just like the thought of having a "safe" place to keep my stuff. Another reason I'm looking forward to high school is: Having multiple teachers. My reason is, first of all it's nice not to be in the same class all the time. And if you get a bad teacher, you wont be stuck with them all year. My last reason is getting to choose your own language. Getting to choose what language I want to learn is a big deal to me. French is nice I guess, but I have two languages higher up on my priorities, first being Japanese, and second being Korean. Unfortunately you can't learn Korean in high school, but you can learn Japanese. So I'm gonna take Japanese. To end off my paragraph I will say this. A lot of people claim that high school was the worst years of their lives. On the other hand some people say those were the best years of their lives. And the only reason they said that high school was great, was because they made it great, and enjoyable for themselves. THE END!

"I will miss all of my friends at school. all the memories!" the two things that i will miss at elementary school is the times playing man hunt in the rain and i would also miss my friend Eknoor. i will miss her the most out of my memories because shes going to magie. the second thing that i will miss is the secret fortress -the woods between worlds-. spending time there is really fun but know we have to leave it behind. WHY! now i will mis elementary school so long to the jr school and hello to the non jr school!
