Today, Mr. Bains demonstrated real-world connections to order of operations. The students were fully engaged because Mr. Bains made his expectations crystal clear with our C-Chart for 'During Lessons'. Action criteria not only makes expectations clear for students, but also for teachers. In the afternoon, students continued learning about the inquiry process in the library with Mrs. Altman. They will do a practice mini-inquiry before delving into an inquiry project on early humans. Don't forget tomorrow is ORANGE SHIRT DAY!

Being completely honest, i have no idea what orange shirt day is about but i do have a few guesses and let me share them with you. Like i said im just guessing so here we go! The first guess is: the same as pink shirt day, someone bullied someone else about wearing a orange shirt and how its ugly. Second: this orange shirt day could be a historical event that happened like the first time orange juice was invented or the orange chocolate thing was created and people absolutely loved them.Third and last guess: The president made us do this so we are doing this 😂

Tomorrow is Orange Shirt Day! You might be wondering, why do we have to wear an orange shirt tomorrow? Well, orange shirt day is the legacy of the residential school, St. Joseph Mission (1891 - 1981). Chief Fred Robbins former student, created this holiday to bring together the Secwepemc, Tsilhqot’in, Southern Dakelh and St’at’imc Nations along with the Cariboo Regional District, the Mayors and municipalities, School Districts and civic organizations in the Cariboo Region. This event was created to honour and recognize the healing journey of the residential school survivors. The date of this day was chose because it was the day all children were taken from their homes and put into these schools. Former student, Phyllis Webstad, had been taken away from her home and had an orange t-shirt taken away from her. She then always associated the colour orange with feelings of worthlessness and children not being valued. What happened to her changed the way she thought and things like this should never happen again.

It started with a little girl who was stripped away from her casual rights, on the first day of school at St. Joseph Mission (SJM) Residential School.The story behind an orange shirt that led to a protest about staging a place about the wrongs of racism and bullying. A little girl woke up one morning and head out to her first day of school, she was excited! She wore a shiny orange shirt that her grandma had bought for her at the mall. When she arrived, she was instantly stripped and put straight into uniform, she was never returned her shirt. The pain raveled on and the stress held within the little girl grew horrible. The 6 year old girl went through stages of pain, she felt as though she didn't matter, her one year (1973 - 1974) of school at SJM gave her the sense of being miserable and worthless, along with the other children that went to this school, they all cried and were hurt, leaving a nightmare no one could forget. So in her place, former and still in school students gathered together and started a protest. Yelling for freedom, for children rights, to prove that there is better. They wore orange shirts, pins or orange to symbol the day that a little girl was hurt and that we can do better. Thus claiming the name "Orange shirt day" in which symbols that "Every child matters".

Orange Shirt Day is tomorrow! Every September 30, Schools around Canada would recognize those kids who survived from residential schools. You might wonder why is there a Orange Shirt Day. Well right now I am going to tell you a story of how orange Shirt Day all started. One day, a indigenous girl was with her grandma shopping for new cloths to wear at the residential school. She picked a bright orange T-shirt that she wanted to wear at the school. But when she walked into the residential school, the nuns forced her to take off her new orange shirt and replaced it with there school uniform. People started standing up for those children's who went to residential schools and where treated poorly. That's why on every September 30 we honor all the children's who survived the residential schools.

What was Orange shirt day's origin? It all started with a six year-old girl. This girl was from the Stswecem'c Xgat'tem First Nation. Her name is Phyllis Webstad. She was sent to St. Joseph Mission Residential School. On her first day she was wearing an orange shiny orange shirt. But when she arrived at the school she was stripped and given a uniform. Her orange shirt was taken. She never saw it again (probably burned). Since that day she has associated the colour orange with the feeling of being worthless. After many years she started Orange Shirt Day. On September 30th we honour the survivors of residential schools and the (about) six thousand children who lost their lives in those schools. So please try to wear an orange shirt tomorrow. And remember, EVERY CHILD MATTERS

This project was the vision of Esketemc Chief Fred Robbins, who is a former student himself and the events were designed to recall the residential school experience, to witness and honor the survivors and their families. Most of all, the orange shirt day was inspired about a former student, whose name was Phyllis Webstad, wore a shiny new orange shirt bought by her grandmother was taken away from her when it was her first day of residential school at the age of 6. So, remember how important this day is, and this phrase "Every Child Matters."

Imagine being punished for being yourself and being taken away from your family. Tomorrow is orange shirt, the day where we wear orange to respect the kids that went through very traumatizing things at residential schools. This day started because of a six year old girl went to school with an orange shirt her grandmother got her. Then when she was at school she got her orange shirt taken away from her and never got it back. She then felt worthless. years later she decided she wanted to do something so she made this day to help kids like her not feel worthless like she once did too. Did you know? That Orange Shirt Day happens because a girl was stripped her magnificent orange shirt and given a uniform when she arrived at school. I will tell you about her an about Orange Shirt Day in this paragraph. Phyllis (Jack) Webstad was born in Dog Creek reserve, B.C. She was 6 that time and she got a brand-new magnificent orange shirt from her grandmother. When she went to her new school, St. Joseph Mission Residential School, she was stripped her magnificent orange shirt and given a uniform. That is why Orange Shirt Day is happening right now. Orange Shirt Day is happening every year on September 30. This program started on 2013 but this program happens all over Canada now. We should keep doing these programs and make a better Canada.

Residential schools is definitely not something Canada should be proud of. For many years, residential schools was a place to educate indigenous people, and not in a good way. At an early age, indigenous kids would get taken away from family, and relatives. They would go to a residential school. The people working there would brutally abuse kids, forbid them from speaking their language, wearing traditional clothing, and much more. It definitely wasn't fair for them, nor did they feel appreciated. By the time they go back home for a break or if they finished education most children would have already forgotten their language, tradition, and culture. Residential schools have now, thankfully, ended and now we have something called Orange Shirt Day. It's a day where we all where an orange shirt to apologize to the indigenous people of what happened in the past. I'm glad there is Orange Shirt Day because the world is much more at peace now than in the past. I can't imagine what people have gone through when Residential School was still happening. They have ended now, not much of a long time ago. So tomorrow let's wear something orange, red or maybe pink to apologize to the people who have been brutally abused and tortured during their time in residential schools.

Do you like orange shirt day? It's a day particularly in BC where we remember the past of our mistakes. When aboriginal people were forced to be more 'civilised'. Orange shirt day originated from when a young girl went to residential school wearing an orange shirt. It was promptly taken away from her. She was quickly handed a uniform instead of the shirt and was never given back the shirt. The fact that residential schools existed makes me sad. Imagine yourself being forced to go to school that you dont want to and become disciplined. I just hope history doesn't repeat itself again.

People celebrate Orange Shirt Day on September 30th because it used to be the day when first nation children were taken from home and forced to go to the residential schools. Orange shirt day started at St. Joseph Mission Residential School when a girl named Phyllis Webstad went to the school wearing an orange t-shirt. Phyllis got the t-shirt from her grandmother, but it was taken away by the teachers when she arrived at the school. The teachers at the school gave Phyllis a uniform instead. This day became a day to honor the children who went to residential schools. Orange shirt day is an important day, and hopefully schools like this would not come back.

One day, Phyllis Webb’s grandmother was taking her shopping for school, Phyllis chose an orange shirt as her out fit, in a British residential school Columbia and her t-shirt was taken away from her and was given a uniform instead, she was treated like she didn't matter, as a survivor, she reflected on her experience, that’s how orange shirt day was made know, its now calibrated to honor the residential school survivors in a way to say sorry, this leading to educating children the wrongs of residential schools. the celebration started back in 2013 and its celebrated-on September 30th, to show respect people wear orange shirts in meaning of honor. Imagine being snatched from your family, Forced to cut your hair and then being stolen of your culture. That was what residential schools were. Even though that was our past we can still show respect to the aboriginals by wearing an Orange shirt. Why and Orange shirt. Well a girl went to a residential school in an orange shirt but the teachers and the people there didn't want her to wear this shirt and forced her to change into an average school uniform. There that historical fact was past down until we finally have a day to show respect against discrimination of the The First Nation group. Remember not all people have the same rights as you and me and that we should remember to respect the aboriginals of the land by wearing an Orange shirt.

Tomorrow (September 30th) is an event to honour the victims of what was the horrible ways of the Canadian government back in the 19th - 20th century — Orange Shirt Day. This special event originated when a six year old indigenous girl had her newly purchased orange shirt confiscated and given a uniform. She never saw that shirt again, and started to associate the colour orange with the terrible residential school. Eventually this grew to be what is known as Orange Shirt Day. We take part in this event by remembering and honouring what happened back then in many different ways, such as having an assembly and wearing an orange shirt. The things that happened to these people who had to go to residential schools were terrible, but nothing like that could happen again. Not in this day and age.

What is Orange Shirt Day? Orange Shirt day is an event created in 2013. It is a day where we honor indigenous children that were forced from their families to go to residentials school. All schools on September 30 honor these kids by wearing orange shirts. We normally begin the off with a prayer and activates like singing and making things with this color! So, what is Orange Shirt Day? Orange Shirt Day is by Phyllis Webstad because of her own experience at residential school. Being taken away from your family isn’t very pleasant, and “Orange Shirt Day” is celebrated to honor and respect all the Indigenous children that were stripped of their identity and childhood. You may ask how these children were stripped of their identity and childhood, and the answer is residential schools. These schools take Indigenous children from their homes and forces them to forget about their own culture and learn French or English. The backstory of “Orange Shirt Day” is when a little girl named Phyllis Webstad wore her new orange shirt to St. Joseph’s Mission residential school. The so-called staff there took her clothes including her brand-new orange shirt.
