Tuesday: Pencil Sketches get Digitized

The division 4 students are working on anime/manga style sketches of themselves. They created pencil sketches and are now incorporating the digital medium. The Learning Gallery will be updated with their pencil sketches in the near future. The students have been using various free websites (www.pixlr.com, www.fotoflexer.com, www.picmonkey.com, www.sumo.fm, etc) to experiment with the different tools and functions. A very important tool is the magic wand. It allows you to select certain areas of an image so you can colour them without changing the colour of the other areas. We are looking forward to seeing the creativity of the students unfold. The 'WARHOLISH' image to the left was created by Kevin!

1.) POST A RESPONSE: Masks look cool, but are they more than just art? How do different cultures use masks? What do different types of masks represent?

Find one reliable website that describes masks and culture. (paste the URL in your response)
Write a paragraph describing 1) how masks are used and 2) what they represent in one particular culture.
Find an image of a mask that you like, and paste the URL in your response. (You can use the design of this mask as inspiration for your own mask tomorrow. Think about what you want the design of the mask to represent.)

2.) SCIENCE: Complete the C.-R.A.A.P. reliability test for the website you found. Most of you have already completed this. In addition to this, you must collaborate with your partner(s) and complete the group notes using the reliable website you found. Write down all 'KEY' points for each section. If you have any questions, please post them here.

3.) MATH 6: Any assigned work

4.) IMPORTANT MESSAGE - Don't forget to wear your costumes to school tomorrow! You can wear them to the Surrey Arts Centre too!

Mask can hide someones face. Mask were not originaly created to be art. They can express the value of a cultre. Africans created a mask for a simble of there purpose. Some mask were worn for the spirits to bring good hunting. And some mask were ment to frighten things. I HAVE A QUESTION if you know the awnser please comment. why do the africans put a lot of animals on there head?

Masks were originally made to hide people's faces. Now they are used as beauty and art. The native masks often represented spirit creatures, animals and myths. The native masks often represented spirit creatures, animals and myths. Dancers put them on to represent their culture. They also hide their feelings and emotions.

The really good ones like on the URL I found are over 1000$. In BC, most people just wear masks just for beauty. There are Darth Vadar masks, for Halloween, and They can be made out of many different things, wood, animal hides, and other stuff. Some have cool designs, some are just plain strips, some have pictures, some have words. Masks can be designed however you want, you could show your culture, your language, maybe your passions? Some people wear masks to hide their face weather they think it's ugly, or thet're just too shy to show it.

Masks are typically worn for protection and can be used in ceremonial and practical purposes. Another reason to why we waer masks are so that we can be something else or someone else or it can hide the wearers emotions and it is a kind of language that expresses that emotion. African masks represent spirits of ancestors or to control the good and evil forces in the community and are seen as a part of a ceremonial costume.

Masks, are normally worn on the face. Mostly for protection, and performance. Inuit women use finger masks during storytelling or dancing. The oldest mask known to man right now is 7000 B.C. . Some masks are for sports, hunting, and wars.

Hi Mr.Hong! Me and Pooh had a quick question for you. On Google Chrome, Pooh is trying to access her Gmail account but it keeps on saying "Your browser's cookie functionality is turned off. Please turn it on". But when she turns it on, it still won't let her access her Gmail account. Although, she says that it works fine on Internet Explorer but she wants Chrome. Hope you can help Mr.Hong! :D

I think the best way is uninstalling Chrome and re-installing it. (You should use Safari! It has better performance). Go to options click on the "Privacy" tab and then click on the "Sites" button and change the settings. Make sure the google.com isn't on the "always block" list. Just search it on the web!
