Tuesday: Do Gases Have a Fixed Volume? Shape?

Today, the students got into a very interesting debate about the shape and volume of gases! I was impressed with their inquiring minds! They were so curious about how the particles could be compressed and expanded depending on the shape and size of the containers. This led to further research and inquiry by the different groups. They were able to find out that gases will always fill the containers they are put into and they will take the shape of the those containers.

3.) WRITE A RESPONSE:

Explain in your own words, in terms of the properties (particles and space) of a gas, why they do not have a fixed shape or volume.
If you do any research, be sure to provide your RELIABLE source(s) of information.

Well.. Because you could put it into any thing and because gas has the most movement and space it will just keep the shape and form like for example a pump you could put that same amount of air into a way bigger container and it would still be full.

Gas does not have a fixed volume. I think that because the particles of gas moves a lot. They can also be compressed. So if you have 2 liters of gas and put it into a 5 liter bottle, they gas will still take up all of the space. The reason is because the particles of gas will just move even more. If you have 2 liters of gas and put it into a 1.5 liter bottle, the gas will only take up that much. The reason is because the particles in gas can compress and be smaller so it takes up whatever room it is in. Gas does not also have a fixed shape because whatever container gas is in, there will be that much gas in the shape of the container.

First off, I think that gas does not have a fixed volume because gas particles will fill the area you put it in. For example, if you have gas in a 2 liter bottle and pour the gas into a 7 liter tank. The gas will fill the whole area because the gas has room to move. Also, you can compress the gas so you can put the gas into different size containers easily. Lastly, gas has a lot of room to move around that is why you can compress it.

Gas does not have a fixed volume nor a shape, because what Greg Heffley said, the particles of the gas move a lot and can be compressed. Like the example that Mr Hong, told us before the test started. Gas also does not have a fixed shape. This is true because if a "gas" moves to a different container from before, and the container's shape is different, it will obviously change, like water. This happens because there is a lot of space.

First off gas does not have a fixed volume because it has a lot of space to move around in, as an example if there was about 5 litres of gas in a bottle it somtimes would just move around to the sides of the bottle because the bottle has so much space to move around in and condensate in. and it does nothave a fixed shape because it can be compressed and gas can change its shape whenever it wants because it has absolutly no volume and it can transform into one shape to another. lets just say oxigen as a example if you where ti inhale the iar it would take the shape inside your body than come back out and do the same thing over and over and over agian.

Gas doesn't have a fixed shape or volume because for fixed shape if you put gas in a rectangular bottle the gas will be rectangular if its in a circle it will be circular. It doesn't have a fixed volume because if you put 2 litres of gas into a 10 litre tank the particles will spread apart making it fill up the ten litre tank

I think it does not have a fixed shape or volume because if you put it in a jar it will bounce around and go where it wants it will go through the top and just spread. I think it does not have fixed volume because it does not have a limited rea to bounce and gas will just go everywhere also liquid for example it will not move as much.

Gass does not have a fixed shape or volume because gass is everywhere and air is a type of gass. Gass does not have a fixed volume because you can put ghass into any container and it will fill it. For example, if you fill a 2L bottle with gass, its going to fill the whole thing.

Gas does not have a fixed volume because it doesn't matter what container you put gas in it will fill up the container because if the container is big the particles will space out even more to fill the container. It does not have a fixed shape shape either because if it's in a container shaped like a monkey it will fill the container and get shaped like a monkey but if it's in a regular container the shape will change into the shape of the container.

Gasses do not have a fixed shape or volume because it is fill a container because if you have a soda can and a 2 liter bottle the particles will take up and be squished together in the can, where the 2 liter bottle will be very roomy by a lot of room because it is big to have the tiny little particles in so when they are in it they are like free roaming around.

To start, Gas does not have a fixed volume because if you put in a jar it will change into the shape of the container. Also, it does not have a fixed volume so you could put it in anything any it would take that shape. :) The little particles will be very spaced though.

To start off with, gas does not have a fixed shape or volume because gas moves freely all around in the space that is given to them. The particles in gas move the fastest and in all directions. Gs does not have a fixed shape because it fills the container or bin or whatever it put into.

If you take a ten litre bottle and put 2 liters of gas in it,
the gas will fill up the container to the full 10 liters.
It does this because it has no fixed volume or mass.
the gas diffuses until it has equal volume in all parts of the container.

Gases are weird to me, they expand, they change values and they change environment whether they act good or bad. Gases do not have fixed shapes and values because the particles that make up the gas change, expand and move in different paces. The reason why I believe that gases don't have fixed values is because gases are very flexible, they can be compress but they always fill up spaces, even if they have to mix with other gases.

Firstly gas does not have a fixed volume because gas moves around in all of the space that is available, the particles in gas have more space to move around in. Also it does not have a fixed shape because say the gas was getting filled into a shape of a apple the gas will fill that shape.

First of all, gases do not have a fixed shape or volume. The reason for this is that gas is made up of many particles. Between these tiny particles are very big spaces so these particles move around. They are very far apart and move around randomly. However, gases take shape of whatever they are put into. For example, someone takes a 500 ml water bottle and fills is it with gas. They can put just 250 ml of gas if they want but these molecules always move around so 250 ml of gas would fill up the entire bottle. Same goes if you put 500 ml of gas into a 10 litre water bottle, it would fill up the entire thing. The only difference that happens is the amount of space between each particle. (Particles get compressed to form the shape) The bigger the bottle, the more molecules are spaced out. Therefore, gas does not have a fixed volume or shape.

Gas has no volume or shape because it is always moving around and it has no fixed shape because you can put it into anything and it will be in that shape.

Many websites that I have looked at, states that gas cannot have a fixed volume because it can be compressed. But they say IT CAN, not it will. I myself also agree that when gas is put into a container that it can be compressed, which causes the gas to not have a fixed volume. But, the gas isn't always compressed. For example, if you put gas into a three litre container, the gas will fill up the container and have a the same volume. Lastly, I have to agree about gas not having a fixed shape. If you think about it, it's quite obvious. For example, if you fill gas into two different containers, and one container is larger than the other one. They will both have different shapes.

In my opinion I think that gas doesn't have a fixed volume because when you put gas into any container it takes up all the space so no matter what size the container is then the gas takes up the space. Also, I agree that gas has a fixed volume because when you put gas in to a 2 litre container then it will fill up the container but probably won't have the same volume as before.

Gases don't have a fixed volume because if you put gas into a container, it will fill up the container no matter what size. Even if the container is smaller than the size of the gas, the particles will move closer together and the gas will compress to fit the size of the smaller container.

gases do not have a fixed volume and shape because they can get compressed by going from a big container to a small container. For example if i fill up a 1 liter bottle and then put the same amount of gas in a 2 liter bottle it will still fill up the whole container because the particles will just move further apart. They can also move closer to each other.

Why I think gases do not have a fixed shape or volume. Because for fixed volume if I have a container and have gas in it but then I put the gas in a bigger container the gas will just bounce around further to fill up the container it is in. Fixed shape it is not a solid so it forms into what you pour it into for example if you pour it in to a bowl thats what it will form to so it is not a fixed shape it forms to what it is in.

I think it's because gas can spread throughout the container in which it is placed. If the container is large, it can spread widely and if the container is small, it cannot. So gases do not have fixed shape or volume in that way.

Because gas is a not a object for shape and gas can fit into anything so no fixed volume.

Gases does not have fixed boundaries because the particles of gas moves a lot.that can also be compressed
