Brainstorming topics for SpeechFest

Today, students learned about how to write a powerful response. They read through criteria and think abouts that will help them create a quality one. Students understand the only way to create a quality piece of work is to follow the criteria in order to ensure they are including all the necessary items.

In addition to writing, students also watched several videos of former students giving their speeches for Speech Fest. They followed along with their speech criteria sheets and were able to identify what these participants needed to do to meet the criteria of a quality speech. Click here to view them again.

1.) LA: Think about your topic for Speech Fest based on the brainstorming from class today.

2.) MATH 6: Any assigned work. Check your teacher's website.
MATH 7:

Watch this video to prepare for class tomorrow.
Bring two items from home. These items can be anything, however, they must be in the same units. For example, if you bring two packs of candy, make sure their weight is labeled in grams. In addition to this, you must have the exact price of your items before taxes are added. If you choose to bring drinks, make sure they are in the same units (mL or L).
We will be doing a shopping/math activity in class tomorrow so it is important you bring at least two items with their prices.

3.) POST A RESPONSE:

In your own words, explain what goes into the following when writing a standard 5 paragraph essay.

1.) Introductory paragraph
2.) Body paragraph 1
3.) Body paragraph 2
4.) Body paragraph 3
5.) Concluding paragraph

Comment on 2 other student responses and give them feedback if they missed anything that is normally required in a standard 5 paragraph essay.

In the introductory paragraph you mainly introduce your paragraph with a hook, thesis, and maybe some interesting facts or opinions.
In the body paragraphs you supply a transition sentence, hook, facts, statistics, and opinions on the facts/stats, make sure the body paragraphs are in the order of the thesis statement.

Finally in the concluding paragraph you restate your thesis, you state one last thing(optional) and write a closing statement.

That is how a 5 paragraph essay is done.

1.) Introductory paragraph
In the intro it needs to include a hook, and a thesis. it aslo needs to explain what your topic is and what your bodys are in order.

2.) Body paragraphs 1-3
in the body paragraphs you need a stat and a quote to back up your info and opinions.

3.) Concluding paragraph
This is the end it needs to include all of the things ou went over in the body in order and it needs to wrap it up

@Mr. Potato, when you said stat, what do you mean by that? Others probably wouldn't know what stat means. You also forgot to mention that on the Introductory we need to start off with a transition, just like most of the other Body Paragraphs and conclusion. But the good thing is that you mentioned some parts.

In your first paragraph of your essay you have the "intro paragraph". In your intro paragraph it tells the reader the hook, the thesis, what its going to be about. The whole point of the intro is to get the reader/listener hooked into your essay (interested) instead of going of topic.

Than since its a "5" paragraph essay 3 of them are your "body" paragraphs in them you talk about your subject and give 3 supporting details of your topic. Think about your body paragraphs as your main paragraph like where you actually right your facts.

In your 5th and final paragraph called the concluding paragraph holds all the stuff to wrap up your essay in the concluding paragraph you summarize your whole essay in different words and not as big just a few sentences like overall, etc. Like restating your thesis then after you go and end it with some type of way to get the viewer wondering like what do you think?, Whats your opinion on this mater, etc.

I hope you enjoyed do not forget to add transition words.

1. Intro: When writing the intro make sure you have hook so people will want to here the rest of your esay also state your 3 body paragraphs in a fun way.

2. 1-3 body paragraphs: When writing your body paragraphs you should have 3 supporting sentences they should include examples, facts, and quotes but make it EXCITING.

3. Conclusion: When writing the conclusion state your 3 body's in a different way but with a hook and at the end add a sentence that will leave the reader curious.

Intro paragraphs include what you will be talking about, a hook and basicly, and introduction to your essay.

Body paragraphs 1-3 include your facts or your subjects.

The conluding paragraph includes a concluding sentence.

1) Introductory Paragraph - In your introduction paragraph you would basically just be intoducing what your essay will be about and your 3 points.

2) Body 1 - this is where you will put 1 of your 3 points for your main idea. you will add example statistics and quotes.

3) Body 2 -this is where you will put 1 of your 3 points for your main idea. you will add example statistics and quotes.

4) Body 3 - this is where you will put 1 of your 3 points for your main idea. you will add example statistics and quotes.

5) Conclusion - this is were you wrap everything up. You state your main idea again and end with a hook or a question.

1.) Intro Paragraph
First in the intro paragraph you put a hook so that you can grab the reader's attention. Then you state your three points that you will be writing about (Thesis Statement).

2-4.) For your body paragraphs you want to list your facts (statstics, quotes, facts, etc...) You also want a transition sentence so that your paragraphs flow together.

5.) For your concluding sentence you want to list all the points that you just talked about but in a different way then you did in your intro paragraph. And then ask a question or write something that will leave the readers with a question.

Intro: Make sure you have a good hook so that your readers will be more interested in it, also make sure you have your thesis statement as well. 1st body paragraph: First make it so your first topic in your thesis statement is the thing you put into the 1st body paragraph. Also, don't make it so that it doesn't go wondering of into a different topic. 2nd body paragraph: First make it so your second topic in your thesis statement is the thing you put into the 2nd body paragraph. Structuring a paragraph is as easy as baby steps, once understanding it fully, you should know every point of it. Here are the required things to structure your paragraph:
- Introduction Paragraph
- Body Paragraph / Supporting Sentences #1
- Body Paragraph / Supporting Sentences #2
- Body Paragraph / Supporting Sentences #3
- Concluding Paragraph
Those are the three main things you will need to structure a paragraph or an essay format. What goes into each of these components? Well let me tell you.

- Introduction Paragraph, in this paragraph you will need to start off your topic by telling your audience what your topic is. You will also need a transition to start it off with and some words that can connect to your Body Paragraph. Not only that, you will need to try and catch the center of attention.

- Body Paragraph / Supporting Sentences #1, In 1 of the 3 components of the Supporting Sentences, you will need the readers attention or the audiences attention just like how your supposed to in the Topic or Introductory Paragraph. Not only that, you will also need to have examples to help the audience understand what your trying to say to everyone, you will need statistics if your going to need to show your research on your topic. For example (Transition Word),You are going to show your statistics of your research based on Germs, and you'd say "Statistics show that 99% of the world is made of germs" or "According to *Website title* or *That*". To make things sound quite well, try to add a quote said by someone most people would know. Like King Tut, or Michael Jackson. And lastly, never forget to end it with a concluding that continues on to your next body paragraph.

- Body Paragraph / Supporting Sentences #2, make sure your structure is the exact same as your first Supporting Sentence, but instead different knowledge and facts about the topic.

- Body Paragraph / Supporting Sentences #3, same thing as before. But this time end it with a conclusion that leads to the Concluding Paragraph. Make sure you still have the audiences attention till the end!

- Concluding Paragraph, this is where you restate your Thesis statement, which is your topic of what this whole essay thingy was all about. There is no need to have statistics, examples, or a quote because your concluding, or closing down, or adding the finishing touches and saying the last bit. Along with that, your topic sentence should start with "To conclude" or "In conclusion". Those would help. Do not end your last sentence with a concluding sentence that still leads on another thing, it should end. This is the final conclusion after all.

Overall, this should keep the reader hanging wondering all about your topic, making them very, very interested to learn or know more about it. You should also keep your Audience's attention at ALL COSTS until you have finished your essay or topic paragraphs. I hoped this helped out a lot, please give me feedback if I missed anything.

For your intro, you should easily be able to hook the reader. Then you get into more detail about your topic in a creative manner. After that you say what your topic is and then start talking about it in body paragraph 1.
Body Paragraph 1: Talk about a good thing in your topic like for example: Today I will be talking about... Or Hello and welcome. You go into farther detail as you go about your topic and then conclude it by saying at the end for example: And this is related to my next paragraph!
Body 2: First you talk about an interesting fact to make sure your reader is still hooked and then you need to start talking about the next paragraph. Make sure you talk about it in really good detail and some interesting ways your topic works out. Make sure you don't go off topic as you go though or else everything will just get out of hand.
Body 3: For your last topic it should be the most interesting of all and should be very very good. You need to make your thesis statement. Stay on topic and make sure you still have your reader hooked in with your writing.
Conclusion: Make sure you go over everything you talked about once more in short terms and then rap everything up in a creative and detailed manner. Also remember you repeat your thesis statement but in a different way. Use transition words to help you.

Something is being wierd with the website like now when you post it looks different the banner and F.Y.I I think (to my knowledge) , etc. Are html the basic coponents of web (websites in general) in html. In most websites they use html, css, and JavaScript comes in on online games, videos, etc. Currently this problem is confusing me so I tested the website with 3 different browsers there all the same.

@ Cookielover, I am not in grade 7 but I have heard @ Fish Sticks say that you have to do the 5.6 worksheet and textbook questions along with the 5.7 worksheet and textbook questions. I may not be correct, its just what one of our fellow grade 7 peers said. Hope this helped. :-)

For the intro you should be able to hook the reader with a fact or a joke. Then you get more in your topic or topics and you start a body paragraph then you use a statistic then go even then use some transition words here and there and the finally a concluding sentience to end the paragraph off. In paragraph 2 you just kinda repeat a lot of it but in a different way and have a quote and some transition words in it . For number 3 do the steps again but on the concluding sentence leave them hanging.

In Intro Paragraph, you put in the hook so you can hook the reader to read your book or article, and then you state what you are going to be talking about in the intro. In body paragraph 1 you state your idea 1 so give supporting details and examples. In body paragraph 2 you give more detail and explanations about 4 details and 2 examples. In body paragraph 3 you put some details and 1example. In the conclusion you restate what you said in the intro but in different words.

To start off your intro paragraph, you must have a good hook to get the audiences attention. Then you must state your three topics for each paragraph in the order that you will speak them in your body paragraphs. In your first body paragraph, you must include the first topic you mentioned in your intro paragraph, and different types of supporting sentences. That is what the second and third body paragraphs include except the only thing that changes is which topic you are talking about. Something that you must say in your concluding paragraph is that you must restate your three topics. Then you must give a sentence at the end which will leave your audience thinking.

If you have an intro you have to get your audience to enjoy what your saying have impressions gestures to keep your audience actually feel it. Also you would need a topic of something you know in your life. Maybe some thing you do or experience. Body #1 Start talking about your topic and explain what it is and make it interesting don't just stand there and start talking you really want to talk about it in a strong voice. Body #2 Then you can maybe talk about something related from your topic and move on to another paragraph. Also to have quotes and transition words to make it sound more creative. Body #3 The last topic you have to put a thesis statement and make sure not to talk about something else. Lets say your talking about dancing and then you move to playing video games. That means you have to stay on topic and don't change it. Conclusion sentence: Make sure to read it to see some errors because when your reading in front of people and you see errors it's gonna be tricky.

1.) Firstly, to start off with, in your introduction paragraph you must have a interesting hook that pulls the reader in. For example, for your hook you can put in a thrilling fact, a question, or onamanotopia like "BOOM!". After, putting in a interesting hook you must include your 3 thesis points.

2.) Secondly, your three body paragraphs must have a topic sentence, supporting sentences, and your concluding sentence. For, your topic sentence you could put in a interseting hook, and for your supporting sentences you could put in statistics, facts, qoutes, and in your concluding sentence you could put in a clincher, like a question.

3.) Thirdly, in your concluding paragraph you must restate your 3 thesis points, and you could put in a question that will leave your audience thinking.

Introduction paragraph- For your introduction paragraph you always start off with a hook. Whether its an investing quote or a humorous joke. After you have you hook you introduce body paragraph A, B, and C. All you do is ay what they are and don't give any information because thats all for you body paragraphs!

Body Paragraphs- For your body paragraphs what you do is have a hook that has something to do with the topic and then have your supporting sentences. Your supporting sentences are... statistics, quotes, examples, and information. Then you have a concluding sentence that leads onto your next topic.

Concluding Paragraph- In your concluding paragraph what you do is say something that indicating that you are ending you essay. After that, you retell your body paragraphs but in a different way you body. (A, B, and C.) Then to finish off your essay you say something that would leave your readers thinking. For example, a quote, or asking a question.

That is what goes into creating a 5 paragraph essay! I hope you learned something new.

Firstly you need a hook to get your readers attention, you can use action words almost, onomatopoeia or even facts.
Then you have you intro paragraph which states your thesis. ( 3 of you topics )
Then is your paragraph number 1 where you talk about your first topic and state 3 supporting sentences which can be a statistic, quote or a fact.
Then is you 2nd paragraph and you repeat the steps as above.
Same for 3rd paragraph.
Then is your concluding paragraph which you summerise the whole essay and re state your topics.

First parragraph is your intro paragraph, you need a hook to invite people to make who evers reading want to read more. It also needs to introduce the big idea of what your topic is about.

The next three body paragraphs have to include your topic sentence, exammples, using transition words.

Concluding paragraphs/sentences how I see it is you have to make your readers wonder and think what's gonna happen next, or making them want to read more.

2) For body paragraph 1,2, and 3, you need to add a topic sentence to lead the reader into your topic for your paragraph. Next you have to add some supporting sentences for your topic and make them reasonable. Then you must add your concluding sentence for that topic and paragraph.
3) Then you have to add your concluding sentence which restates your three topics and then add a clincher at the end to leave the reader wondering or thinking about your essay.

The first paragraph is the intro, A good hook to get the reads attention to make whoever is listening more entertained in what you have to say so they want to read. In your introduction paragraph you need a hook, you need to explain what you are going to talk about list them. In body paragraph 1 you talk about the first thing that you listed.
