Wednesday: Anti-Bullying Day

Empathy is defined by wikipedia as the capacity to recognize emotions that are being experienced by others. The empathy that was shown in class today after the students read through one another's responses was absolutely amazing! The students were able to make personal connections to one another's experiences and were able to empathize through the descriptive writing they produced from watching the 'TO THIS DAY PROJECT' video.

1.) MATH 6: Print off your image/diagram and draw a grid on top of your image. Each square must be 1cm by 1cm. Make sure that your lines are straight! Crooked lines will not work.

MATH 7: Any assigned work. Check your teacher's website.

2.) SHOWCASED BLOG:
Visit Pooh Bear's Learning Journey and ask her some good questions about 3 of her posts. Remember, don't just give 'VIRTUAL VERBAL DOGGY BISCUITS'!

3.) WRITE A RESPONSE #1:

Continue with your child labour research on your Google Drive. You have been wading in the water on this topic. Now it is time to dive into the pool! Dive deeper into the research you have already found and provide more information about what you are researching.
Include at least 2 reliable links (informational)
Include at least 2 reliable images (separate from the informational links)
Reply to your original post by clicking here (Monday's post)
Edit and revise your work on your Google Doc prior to posting it.

4.) WRITE A RESPONSE #2:

Return to yesterday's WRITE A RESPONSE on the 'TO THIS DAY VIDEO" and ask an insightful comment to the posts you have yet to reply to. Continue from where we left off this morning.

5.) WRITE A RESPONSE #3:

Watch this video on how boiling water freezes.
Post some questions or something interesting you find out about the science of how this happens.
Don't forget to reference the particle model of matter.
Include any reliable links/videos you find in your research.

I think that when the water is in the pot the particles are all together and they conserve their heat together. As soon as they leave the pot and split up, they lose some of their heat and they freeze faster and change from a liquid to a solid by freezing instantly.

I think that the water in kettle was getting colder the second it went in the cup and that is how I think that the water freezing super fast

Item: Soccer Balls - India:
A lot of slavery companies take place in India. One of the products India has to make with slavery are soccer balls. This is bad because children have to work more than 14/hrs a day, barely getting payed enough to get a candy bar. They have to make hand-sew pieces of leather into soccer balls. Even the little kids who are 6-7 years old use knives to sew them The sharp knives they use to cut the leather, often cut their fingers, due to the lack of proper sanitation, the cuts make them easily become infected. The people in India who make the soccer balls are usually poor and trying to spare their lives.

I think the reason it freezes faster is because the water is heated so the particles are starting to space out. When you throw the water it splits into small chunks and together with the space caused by the heat the water freezes instantly.

I find it very interesting that boiling water can turn into snow that quickly. I think that it can turn into snow that quickly because the particles get farther apart and therefore, it has more space to move and when it spreads out it gets colder because it is so thin and it takes up the space.

I think that it freezes because when she throws the hot water in the air the particles move farther apart so it turns in to snow Instantly.

I think that when she threw the water out of the measuring cup the water breaks apart into smaller pieces which makes it easier to freeze.
when the particles start to cool they slow down and start to form a solid .The cold weather and the particles moving further away from eachother makes it easier to freeze

I think the water turned into snow because the boiling water all of a sudden hits a freezing point when you through it in the water. The particles move apart and are easier to freeze.
What do you think would happen if it was boiled at a way higher temperature? What would happen if it was cold water instead, and it was sunny out? What do you think Would happen if you threw the water downwards? Why did she use water? Would it be cold enough for this to happen in Canada?

The reason it freezes is because the partials are moving and they will freeze in a second .

well, to me I think this has happened because the cold water has particles moving but slower than the room temperature caused because heat makes the particles move faster and cold is the opposite to hot so my reasonable explanation is that the hot water already has faster moving particles than the cold due to heat and when thrown in the air there is more space between the particles and they will evaporate.

What i think happens is that the water, when it was thrown into the air it otamaticly departed into molocules and evaporated from being in such small bits off boiling water.

I think the water froze and turn into snow in mid-air is because the flow and movement along with the extra space and lack of heat caused the particles within the boiling water to move much slower at a faster rate and kind of pull in towards each other in a quick motion.

In my opinion, I think because it is so cold, the particles quickly freeze and move slower while having more space between them. Similar to what someone had said in the class, I think that because when she throws the boiling water in the air, there is so much space between these particles making fast enough to freeze. What happens if you put a big bucket of boiling water and throw it into the air? Will it have the same reaction or not because of how much extra water there is.

Cool thing - mercury a metal in the periodic table is a liquid at room temprature (see Terminator 2 for some special effects where the robot gets melted and forms puddles to reassemble).
The particles in the boiling water
Moves very fast when it is thrown into the freezing air they loose rather a lot of their energy and freezes into little ice crystals that you can see in the cloud forming in the video.

What I think happend was the water got spredead apart so all the particals were induvidual so they could freeze quicker.
I know it is really really cold there but it does not make scence of how quickly it turns into snow.

@bobby orr i have a suggestion for you try thinking about waters freezing point zero degrees way below that should freeze it instantaneously.
