WEDNESDAY: Artifact Excavation

Today, the students learned about archaeology and the different skills that go into retrieving artifacts from long ago. The students brainstormed and created a concept map with the class with their ideas. It was really interesting for the students to see that the skills required for being a good archaeologist, translates into skills necessary for life in general. A little hard work, dedication, and patience, can get you far in life!

1.) REVISION OF WORK: Today you received the assessments for your math, art, LA, and French projects. If you would like to revise and resubmit your work, you can do so before Monday June 24th. After you have made the revisions, you need to let Ms. Fei know about the changes you made through this Google Form.
These are ideas for improving your projects:

Photography: Many of you did not describe the required concepts in your ThingLink images. You can improve by adding these descriptions.
Math: If you had consistent mistakes or an incorrect explanation, you could do corrections (and extra calculations) or improve your explanation. But in order for your grade to change, you would need to show SIGNIFICANTLY better understanding of the concepts.
French: You could correct the mistakes on your scripts and write extra sentences to show that you understand the corrections. You could also redo your video.

2.) PARENT SIGNATURE: Please get your parent to sign the cover sheet attached to your assessments, and bring back the signed cover sheet.

3.) FIELD TRIP FORMS: Be sure to hand in your Sunnyside field trip form tomorrow morning if you haven't already done so.

4.) WRITE A RESPONSE:

What did you learn about the skills required to be an archaeologist?
I learned that patience is key when you are working. In the beginning I though it would be really easy, but when I started I realized it was quite difficult. During the process I got quite frustrated because of how time consuming it was.

What did you learn about the skills required for life?
I learned that passion is a very important skill to have in life. I know that it may not seem so, but if you aren't passionate about what you do, you will not enjoy it. While I was doing this project, I realized this wouldn't be something I would do as my career because it isn't something that I enjoy doing.

* For the last to questions I'm kind of unsure about them, I don't understand it. For the question that asks about what you learned, it seems like the first two questions already answer that. Reply to this comment if you could clarify this for me. Thanks! :D

I learned that you need a lot of patience and "respect" for the artifacts you find. You have to be very careful.

Today, while finding for artifacts in our cool "rocks", I learned that you have to have a lot of patience and "respect" for the artifacts you find. You have to be very careful so you won't break anything of what you find. I also learned that every skill you need for anything else is for life. Like what Poop said, I do not get the last 2 either.

What did you learn about the skills required to be an archaeologist?

To be and archaeologist, you need a lot of patience and control. By this I mean, when you are digging the fossil or whatever, you need to be very patient and stay under control. For example, you could either get really frustrate and start yelling and screaming, or you can stay calm and finish what you started. If your an archaeologist you should choose to do the second example. From today, I realized how important it is to be patient. I started off and though it would finish really quickly and easily, but it didn't. Instead it twice as long as I though it would take.

What did you learn about the skills required for life?

You need to have collaboration skills, concentration skills, and patience. Those three things are very important because that are used in many jobs. For example, you need to be patient when being an archaeologist, or doctor, you need to be collaborative when you are a teacher, or a dancer (with more than one person), you need concentration in many different jobs. Such as, doctor, scientist, office worker, teacher, hair stylist, make-up artist. They need to stay concentrated because their work is very important and if they talk to neighbours, etc. they will get carried away and do everything wrong.

What did you learn today?

Today I learned about how much patience you need to be an archaeologist, and that it's a lot of hard work. You need to keep digging and digging till you find something.

I learned that you need to have plenty of patience, and you have to know many techniques. Today, I really liked doing the activity to be archaeologists, but I rushed towards the end. I might not have this career in the future because I had very little patience since I couldn’t find the dinosaur, (But I did in the end). You need to have proper techniques because you have to make sure not to damage any fossil, pottery, or basically anything. You have to be very careful in that process because when I was chipping away, I realized that I could damage something. Therefore, I became a little more careful, but more so when I saw some of the toy.

I learned that in life, almost all the skills that we learned about, are required for many jobs even though you cannot see it. Also, all of the different skills connect to the world around us. For example, not only do we learn skills of being patient by looking at a loading page for 1 minute, but also for being an archaeologist.

Today I learned that I cannot be an archaeologist. Even though I had lots of fun, I wasn’t very patient in the end. I also don’t think it would be a career that I truly have a passion for.

What did you learn about the skills required for life? You have to have critical thinking for knowing where to dig and you also need to have a lot of patients like I said on the first one because you need to take time to dig your item up.

What did you learn today? I learned that you have patients Like I said twice... I learned this because when we had to get ours out of the egg we had to wait a long time just to get.

What did you learn about the skills required to be an archaeologist?

Firstly, I learned a lot about the type of skills you need to become an archaeologist. One of these skills are you need to have patience because you have to uncover the artifact slowly or else it will break and you will not be happy. Secondly, you need to be careful because some thousand year old artifacts are not going to be as strong as some of today's artifacts. Lastly, you need to know what you are doing so you need to pay a lot of attention because if you don't you might do something wrong and mess up the dig.

What did you learn about the skills required for life?

You would need passion, collaboration, communication, critical thinking skills, and you have to be creative. All these skills will help you big time in life because you would need passion so you can keep your job and your would need to be able to work with others and you should be able to easily talk to other people, and you need to always think, lastly creativity is really helpful to be unique.

Are there any similarities? Differences?

There are some similarities and differences because when you are an archaeologist you have to be able to talk to other people and get on well with other people because you want to be nice and helpful it just make your life a whole lot easier. Lastly, you would need to always think about hings carefully because one wrong move can mean the difference.

What did you learn today?

I learned a lot about archaeology like how to become an archaeologist, what skills you need, and how they can help you in life.

There are many different skills needed to be an archeologist such as need to be patient, gentle, cautious, geolically smart and able to work in various types of weather conditions.
You will need lots of skills for life such as intelligence, a passion, collaboration, communication, creativity, critical thinking.
There are lots of similarities and differences because you might need some skills for different types of jobs and different types of skills for certain jobs.
I learned how and what an archeologist is like and what he needs to become an archeologist.

First I learned that it takes a lot of skills to become an archaeologist. You would need skills like patience because it take a while to dig out the object and persistence because you will not always discover something when you dig, so you need the persistence to keep you going.

I learned that the skills you need for life are simple things like patience collaboration because you can't do everything alone so you need this skill so that you can communicate with other for help. I learned that these skills will help you with things like getting good jobs and making friends.

There are many similarities but not that many differences like all the skills for life also apply for being an archaeologist. For example you need collaboration for both because you need to know how to talk to other so that they can help you when you are an archaeologist and you also need to be able to collaborate with other so that you can make friends in life.

Today I learned that that there are certain skills needed to become an archaeologist not only things like knowledge but also things like patience and persistence.

I learned that the skills you need for life is collaboration and safety. You need these skills so you are not friendless and dying due to injuries because you are not safe.

There are some simularities because if you do not collaborate you can not tell someone you have found something very important. In life you need this skill because if you don't have it you will not have any friends and you won't get a job easily.

What did you learn today?
Today I learned that if you are an archeologist you need to have patience, and you can't get frustrated if you can't get to what you are looking for right away.

What did you learn about the skills required to be an archaeologist?
1.) Firstly to become an a archaeologist you will need to be very patient because, you may not always find stuff, and you cant just slam your pick axe in the ground carelessly you need to be patient and slowly cut away little by little and find the object. Also you need to love what you are doing you cant just be an archaeologist because you want to you need to be motivated, and love what you are doing.

What did you learn about the skills required for life?
2.) Some main skills required for life are, patience, 5 cs, and motivation. Those are some skills you will need because you cant always just think you can do it on your own without any help and not wanting to, while you are not patient and trying to rush through it.

Are there any similarities? Differences?
3.) There are some similarities, and differences because you will need to be very nice to people so they can help you out with your work, and not totally ignore you because they despise you. Also you cannot rush to do stuff because then you can mess something up and one mess up could be really bad.

What did you learn today?
4.) Personally I learned you cannot always rush through things because that could lead to something very bad. Also when doing something its always best do do it with a friend because they can help you out a lot!

Archaeology Skills

The skills for Archaeology range far and wide, they usually require things like patience, persistence and other things similar to that matter, but digging ancient pieces of time also require other things such as collaboration, critical thinking, caution, strength and many other skills.

Life Skills

Life skill are very similar in terms- you always would need patience, especially if your mastering your own specific type of craft. Life skills are things you need in life or jobs, the skills can divide into many sections and Archaeology is just one of them.

The similarities between the two skills of Archaeology and Life skills in general are that they are merely the same, but in different variations.

The things I learned today are quite familiar to me, I'm not sure If I can say I learned things because I was interested in Archaeology before and looked up on it, but I guess it would always profit when I practice.

1.) Patience and safety
2.) communication because you need to communicate with others and also speak their language.
3.) there are some like being nice 'cause someone could dislike you and not listen to you. Knowledge is good to have so if you tink you are just breaking a rock but it could be the chipped corner from the rosetta stone.
4.) I learned that it is really fun but also really hard work to be an archeologist and I could never be one. I just smashed the rock and half then I chipped away the rest.

3: Its almost all the same. Becuase you are using almost all the diferant skills you can think of.

4: I had learned about how archeologists skills they need in there profesion and where most of the artifacts they find go.

Skills for life: reading, writing, logic, kindness, colaberation.
The simularities: well you will need to live you will need to get along with the people and you have to be social.
What I learnd: how carefull you have to be and how much pacients your need.

I learned that you always need to take your time while doing archeology patients is always a good thing to have. While I was digging up my treasure it took me a long time I got a little frustrated because I thought that I would never get the the Dinosaur out of its rock. It was a tuff job but if you take your time then you will find that patience is always a great thing to have.

I learned that all of these skills you will need to have in everyday life. In different jobs you may have to have patience or take your time.

Today I learned that you should always take your time while doing a activity like that because it will show up in the end. :)

I learned a lot of skills required to be an archaeologist. I will name a few. You have to be patient. Because you are not going to find artifacts inside ground in 5 minutes. It takes time to go find the right place to dig. Also, you have to be passionate. The reason is that being an archaeologist takes time. So if it is not your passion then you wont enjoy being outside for a long time and you are sweating like crazy, just to go find something from a long time ago. To add on, you need to have communication skills. For example, you are going to Russia to find an artifact. Since you don't speak Russian, you would need to have good communication skills in order to go and dig.

I learned that the skills required for life is just like the four C's. Communication, Collaboration, Critical Thinking, and Critical Innovating. Because, if you can communicate easily to people, than people will understand you easily and it will be a lot easier. Also, if you collaborate with other people instead of just making one person do the work, then doing things will be faster, and easier. You need to have critical thinking because if there is a tough decision to choose from, you would need to have critical thinking. To end it up, you will need to be a critical innovator, because you can't just copy everyone else.

Today, I learned that being an archaeologist is not a walk in the park. It takes time, you need to be gentle so that you do not break the artifact, and if you put your mind to something, then you can do it! I really wanted to find the alien thing inside the " rock " so I kept on chiseling until I found it.
