Critical thinking

Welcome back everyone! It was wonderful to see everyone's faces today! Today, we reviewed our reading strategies and wrote paragraphs on which strategies we use and how we use them to improve our understanding of text. I was impressed because every single student followed the learning intention and the success criteria. When you do this, you will always achieve success! Later, we continued learning about decimals and different representations of decimal numbers. In Art, we started our Roy Lichtenstein onomatopoeia pop art projects. We started brainstorming and working on our first drafts. This is a learning assignment as much as it is an art assignment.

Goals can decide whether a person succeeds in life or not. The goals we set for ourselves guide our decisions and give us something to work towards. They can give you a sense of self-worth and excitement. I have personal goals of my own. My short-term goal is to be an active contributor and to make my classroom a better learning environment. I will do this by setting a good example; I will help my classmates with work they do not understand, and keep a positive and kind attitude. My medium-term goal is to get into the IB program at “Sir Winston Churchill.” Doing the IB program is an excellent way to prepare me for my education in the future. I will prepare for the IB program by being accepted (hopefully) into the Synergy program, getting good grades and by doing extracurricular activities. My long-term goal is to attend medical school. I will do this by achieving good grades, working hard and displaying my academic accomplishments. Goals can act as a bridge to success, but they can also burn you out.

Happy new year! With a new year, we should make some new year goals. Since this goal should be related about school, my goal is trying to self regulate more often, since I notice I talk a lot. But you can't just make a goal and not take steps to achieve it! So I'm going to state some ways I can achieve it. For example, I can self regulate my environment, if I know I'm going to talk to the people around me, then I can move. Another thing I can do is see if everyone's quiet, and I can follow their example. Lastly, I can review the C-charts and do a self assessment of my behaviour and try to fix it. Hopefully, I am able to achieve my goals. Thanks for reading.

Do you have a goal for your education? Any plans to go to a specific university or conquer a formula or problem? I do and its a pretty hard on to say the least. The goal I have set in mind is learning all the formulas of physics. If you can remember those formulas, you can calculate the speed, mass or force of the object! I can achieve this goal by doing these 3 steps. The first one is studying advanced physics. This will help me learn and embrace the formulas. The second one is to learn a lot of math. Since calculations are done with math, I will have to learn how to do calculations quick and effectively. Lastly, I can do this by testing my hypothesis using my calculations to conduct experiments. That is how I can achieve my goal of learning physics. I hope that you can be fascinated by the subject too.

It is 2021 everyone! New year, new things and, most of all, new goals. Goals are especially important, without goals, there would not be any purpose for what you are doing, and if you do not have purposes, then you do not have anything. I personally have lots of goals, I want to get the Windmill (Bboy move) down, I am trying to improve my report card every year and am trying to get friendlier. One of my school related goals is to improve my report card and specifically, get better at science. To improve and reach my goal, I need to climb a hard mountain. Things I need to do are obviously actually study for tests, stop being so proud, and to ask people for help when I need help because oh-boy, that is something that is far beyond my capability (joking by the way). Anyways all these 3 things will most likely improve my understanding of science … a lot. So that is my goal, what’s your goal?

Tyson you should try to be more concise with your writing. You don't need words such as "personally", "obviously" and "specifically" because it doesn't contribute much to your points and makes your writing seem unclear and filled of fluff.

It's the new year and its the time to set new goals. My goal is to do well on the tests that I get. I will try to achieve this goal by remembering the important things, study better, and quiz myself before the actual test. For example, if the test is about math, the important things that I have to remember is to remember how to do the problems, keep on practicing the questions that are going to be in it, and just quiz myself. In conclusion, goals are made each year and they help you do many things.

When achieving something you often feel a sense of pride along with the proud feeling of accomplishment. This feeling can be similar to setting a goal. How you may wonder how earning a prize or setting a challenge may be of the same sort? To explain, you could be thinking that "Sure, they could be the same. Afterall, when you achieve your goal, you've accomplished and won something.", but this is not what I mean. To explain, often when you work to earn a prize or attain something, that 'thing' or 'prize' motivates you and gives you an aim. This scenario is similar to goals because goals are what helps you thrive. They challenge you and give you a target to aim for. Furthermore, some of my new goals in this year of 2021 include improving my academic grades, becoming more social by connecting with my family and extending my participation in curricular activities. Firstly, I will study more, work harder and trying to procrastinate less. I will also ask for peer reviews and help from those around me. Secondly, I will connect with my family by volunteering for chores, participating in family conversations and doing family activities such as board games, walking, etc. Lastly, to participate in curricular activities, I will search for activities which I enjoy and try them, then, I will slowly widen my rage and participate in more activities and discover new hobbies which I could enjoy. By setting these goals, I now have a challenge to push me throughout the year of 2021 which will help guide me and decide a path that's better for me. What are your goals for 2021?

New year goals can help you find ways to improve and be successful! One of my school related goal is to check over my work before handing it in to the teacher. Checking over your work to see if you have any mistakes can make a huge difference. I find checking over my work before handing it in is really important because sometimes you can make a huge mistake and not even notice before looking back and checking over your work. Some ways that I can make me always remember to check over my work is maybe adding sticky notes on where I had trouble on. I think that this goal can really make a difference for my report card!

Have you ever felt aimless, like you're not really working toward anything? That's the feeling of not having any good goals. Goals are important because you can measure your progress on them, and see how you are doing. They also give you something to work toward. A school-related goal I have is to get better at science. Three things I will do to work toward this goal are study more, try harder on tests, and do some exploration outside what I have to do for school. At the end of the year, I will see if I have improved my knowledge of various subjects related to science. Goals are always important, and the start of the new year s a great time to set some!

I find that people are always talking about what happens next, but we should focus in the present and make the most of what we have right now. A way I can accomplish this goal is to spend the most time with my friends as I can. Another way is not to worry about assignments to much because really in a few years not getting full marks on a test isn’t going to matter, I just want to learn. Finally, at school we aren’t doing music so instead of just waiting or not doing it I am now going to do it in my free time with apps and YouTube videos. I hope that by the end of the year I can feel that I accomplished and have done something for the school.

Goals can help to achieve growth. Since it's a new year, I have decided to create some for myself to help me in the new school term. My first goal is to work with a good schedule in order to do my work efficiently and effectively. My second goal may take a longer time to achieve but it is to work while focused in class while in a normal class environment. My third goal for this paragraph is to not procrastinate when doing work, this can help me hand in all my work with ease if I understand how do it. What do you think when it's the end of the year and beginning of the new year? New year goals, goals are things that you set and try to achieve without a deadline, while new year goals are goals you set at the beginning of the year and try to achieve by the end of the year. What I want to achieve and set as a goal is finishing my work and handing it on time, how I'll achieve this goal is by, 1. Finishing my work and not forgetting to do any homework I have, 2. I'll try to remind myself focus and not get distracted by anything or anyone so I can focus more on getting my work done, 3. I'll try to hand my work in on time and check it over for mistakes that might occur in my work so I don't worry about it later on. I really hope that this goal I set at the beginning of the year is reached at the end of the year. I didn't know how new year goals could actually help anyone succeed in a timely matter.

What are some goals that you have made for yourself? If so, are they a benefit and are they helpful to you? Making a list of goals can be very useful and contribute to your daily life. There are short-term goals, medium-term goals, and long-term goals, and it’s important to have at least one goal in each category. Now you may be asking, how do you come up with a goal? Although some goals will take longer to achieve than others, try to think of some problems or issues that you might be dealing with at this moment. Think about the things that you need/want to change that can or is affecting your life. For me, a New Years educational goal is to work harder and push myself whenever I don’t have the motivation to keep going. It sounds tough, but that’s why it’s such an important goal for me because it’s not easy and needs the effort put in. I lose motivation very easily because most of the time, I just want to stay in my bed and not move an inch of my body. This is a big problem because I have work to do and I need to pull myself together. One way to help me work towards this goal is to be more productive during the day so I won’t have to worry about it later and this will give me more time to sleep and rest. So instead of going on my phone and scrolling through social media, I could take out my planner and make sure that I have completed all my work. Speaking of social media, another way to help me achieve this goal is to stay focussed instead of letting distractions get in my way. I could limit my screen time on my devices and finish my homework before or after I take a snack. Having a schedule for the day will also be very helpful and let me know what I should and shouldn’t be doing! This will keep me organized and put me in the right path. The feeling of accomplishment after achieving your goal is immaculate and can lift a burden off your shoulders, so try it out for yourself!

what goals do i have for this year? Well in order to tell you that we need to go back in time.
In the year of 2019 i was in grade 6 and I struggled to understand what was going on in the classroom and that made me struggle in tests. All though I strongly believe that the teacher I had was a, well... Bad teacher. Once I had figured that out I just did not want to pay attention. That teacher made a bad first impression and I was not hooked into learning with them.
This year though I have a goal. That would be to pay attention in class no matter how boring the subject is. I plan get rid of any distractions such as pencils, papers, or any craft before each lesson. In the past I had realized that if I miss something I did not ask for the teacher to repeat it. if I did not understand something I never asked the teacher but that was especially for my grade six teacher, since they would reply with THE exact same thing. This year I plan to ask the teacher if there is any misunderstandings. With all of that to conclude, If I follow those points I will be able to pay attention in class!

Have you thought of your goals before? Have you ever considered what you have to do to achieve them? Goals... it’s what drives us forward in a way, without them we would just lay around all day like flappy meat. I have some goals too, like gaining motivation for what I’m supposed to do like working on a topic you’ve promised to look on about for ages or stop dreading doing homework (I dreaded this for all this time, yes this). I think my biggest goal would probably be what I was saying earlier, motivation. Some ways/strategies I think could help me with actually picking up the courage to do homework or just in general is by forcing myself too, I know that sounds a bit harsh but it’s true, I really have no motivation at sometimes. Another strategy I could use is finding connections to the things I must do. It’s tricking my brain in a way or just to make the process more enjoyable at least. The last strategy I think can help me is by practicing, I know… pRaCTiCIng?? But practice really does make a difference! You could know everything but without practice you’re better off as someone that doesn’t know much but practices a lot. In conclusion, I think these strategies may actually help me in over coming my motivation thing and be able to learn tremendous amounts, it's not like it's hard to understand or that it takes a long time, I just generally don't do it.

@Mika, great paragraph and creative goal! A feedback that could help you is that when you said "I really have no motivation at sometimes." Do you mean "I really have no motivation at times."? Another suggestion you can add to your examples is that sometimes, when I do work something that motivates me is music! I'm not sure if that motivates you too, but it's a suggestion you could take if this affects you as well! Great paragraph I enjoyed reading it! :)

2021 will be so much brighter than 2020. We have vaccines for COVID-19.USA has a new president. This year, I would like to work towards making my PAR more descriptive. For example, I want to use words like: excellent instead of great or good. Maybe even outstanding. How could I do this? Well first, I could use google to find synonyms for some words. I could also describe objects/living things by telling what colour or maybe how big it is. Another possibility. Comparing an object/living thing to another. This would help you visualize said object/living thing. For example, (not gonna spoil his real name) Baby Yoda, is a small, green being with big green, triangular ears, HUGE eyes and covered in wrinkles. I would say he is about as tall as a (regular sized) piece of paper standing upright. He wears a small baggy, brown gown. 2021 will bring the 50th anniversary of Disney and also the Tokyo Olympics. This year will be brighter than ever.

It's a new year, but it's also the last year of elementary for me and I want to make the most of it. To do that, I should set a goal I can focus on this year! Something I have difficulties on that I want to improve on is my writing. I feel like I could try better with my writing. So, the next school year I can go to school feeling proud about my writing! However, if I want to achieve my goal I have to set up ways to achieve this! Firstly I could read more books. Reading books can help build my background knowledge in my writing. Secondly, I can improve on my grammar. Grammar does a huge part in writing and I think I should improve on my grammar. Lastly, I can ask my brothers for books I can read, and then to summarize the story. That way, I can practice my writing skills! Next year will be a new experience for me, and I want to make sure I'm fully ready for everything!

Goals Let us improve. You can work effort to that goal. This is the last year in the elementary. We have to set some goal and make it before the high school. My first goal is keep practice at English and strive for write the paragraph like Keira and Seth before the High school:). My Second goal is keep learning at Math because my most of mistake in the math test is because I’m very careless. I always did some math questions at home by myself, I think the math at high school will be very hard. So I have to prepare it. These are my two goals I wish I can do that in 2021!!!

Goals are something that are achievable not some dream in your head. Goals are something that you believe you can do and something that will help you not something that you want because you are a spoiled brat. All I can say is that my past goals were way too extreme which made me into a very very big procrastinator. Which leads me to my first goal which is to not procrastinate that much. Procrastinate is a very big part of me since i always say i do something but the problem is that don't do it. So to make myself a better person. in general i believe that I shouldn't do this. A specific way is to do the actually put some action into it, for example One thing i procrastinate about is that I can wake up in the morning but I don't put the action in that. I would say that i would wake up early but sleeping at 3 in the morning wont help me reach the fact that i would wake up earlier and get to school on time. The 2nd step I can do is to write down a schedule, or example if I am procrastinating that I can finish a project in one day most likely mean that i cant finish and thats really bad in general, to help me I believe I should write a schedule and then go with the schedule. Another example is like splitting the work ion general in which that will help me. But I need to remember to follow the schedule. One example when I didn't follow the schedule is when today I told myself I will write my par right after school. Well that didn't happen and I ended up writing this Par at 9:17. I need to fix that, so that will help me in general. The last step is to constant reminders. Why is that a step well its a step for me since Writing a schedule is the first step and then I will forget the schedule. Setting reminders will put me on the right track. Again Goals are things that are realistic. To be honest I believe that in the end of 2021 ill still be procrastinating cause its just my nature But i believe its going to better than before.

There are always things we can improve on. Whether it be simple things or bigger things. Something I want to improve on academically is working on my skill to do math in my head instead of relying on a calculator for division and more difficult questions. A strategy I can use to help is by visualizing the problem in a way that makes the most sense to me. Another way to help would be by deconstructing a complicated question into smaller segments. Lastly, managing my stress levels would help a lot with focusing on my work. I can do this by not worrying about the amount of time I’m given but instead focus purely on the question. All in all, I want to get better at doing mental math at a much faster pace than I do. I hope these ideas can help me succeed.

Setting goals is an easy and effective way for us to improve our learning and skills. For 2021, I would like to try harder and spend more time in doing schoolwork and doing research about topics I find interesting rather than playing games and procrastinating. A way I can achieve this goal is by making a set schedule and removing distractions when I do my work. I could also make it easier for me to do things that I'm supposed to by making it easier to do so because human laziness happens when it's hard to do the activity that is "good" and logical. I can also ask someone or search things up when I get stuck on something right away to prevent loosing focus and interest in the topic. I believe that if I follow these points I will achieve my goal. I hope that 2021 will be a much better year than 2020. Have you made goals for 2021?

It’s a new year so that means new goals. Goals help you focus on one thing so you put a lot of effort into it. My goal is to do my work earlier so I don’t wait until the last minute. 3 ways i’ll do this is that i’ll focus on my work at school so I don't have to do as much at home, i’ll also get out all the work I need to do when I get home so I don’t forget. The last thing i’ll do is that i’ll be more specific with my planner so that I know exactly what to do. I think that if I do this i’ll be more on top of my work and i’ll have more free time. What are your goals for 2021?

@Melissa - You could create a schedule so that you remember to do your work and make a schedule that you KNOW you will stick with.

Every year on the same day, we all work towards a goal, a goal we try our very best to achieve and when we achieve it. We feel a great deal of accomplishment, accomplishment is something you feel when you do something great, something that will be a small step for humanity. Now that i have said a whole bunch of deep words and stuff, its time to set a goal for myself: Roen. To find a goal, you have to know your weakness. And I dont know my weakness so im gonna make a random one and pretend like im actually trying to be better when im really not going to. Here we go.... This year im gonna be working on my self regulating skills, what do i mean? I mean to try to stay on my task, how can i stay on my task? Concentrate on work, try not to get distracted by my friends/tablemates? And im NOT going to do anything silly!*
