Review the 4 'WHAT IN THE WORLD ARTICLES' You will have a quiz tomorrow. There will be approximately 25 questions.

You are expected to write your response, respond to at least one other student, and reply to any feedback or comments directed at you. Check this site at least 2-3 times tonight.
The goal here is to learn from your peers and to deepen your understanding by interacting with others.

In Social Studies class today, you learned about many different innovations/inventions from the Mesopotamians.
List 2 inventions/innovations that came from the Mesopotamians.
Explain how they have helped modern day civilizations (us) in our daily lives.
Try to write about ones that have not been written about yet. I do understand that some of you will write about ones that have already been written about. Do your best.
Don't forget about the givens. (Spelling, capitals, grammar, sentence structure, punctuation, etc)

I hope you have all been enjoying your holidays! I enjoyed mine with my family. We visited Disneyland and even bumped into Liam and his family there! You have no 'POST A RESPONSE' for the break. Simply complete the work that you was discussed on the last day of school before Spring Break!

THURSDAY: Young Entrepreneur Show

Happy Learners watching, "Hey, Bully Bully!"

Today, you had a unique opportunity to see what some young entrepreneurs had created! They spent a great deal of time coming up with a marketing plan and strategy in addition to a product that their consumers would purchase. People like Bill Gates and Steve Jobs all started with an idea and a lot of hard work. Things were not simply handed to them, they had to work extremely hard to be successful. They had to learn their craft and study hard!

3.6 Worksheet and textbook work.

Answers will be posted in the next day or so. Be sure to mark and correct everything at home. Not completing your daily assignment affects your overall standing in Math.
Work will be due after the break.

In 100 words or less, write a paragraph to entice customers to buy your product. Be sure to explain why someone should buy your it.

Complete the mid chapter review.
Click here (1) (2) for the answers and mark and correct your work at home.
Do not do any of the worksheet questions. We need to go over a few points in class before you work on it.

Continue working on your Genius Hour projects from home.
You will be required to show Mr. Hong your plan and what you have been working on over the last 3 Genius Hour classes.
You will show Mr. Hong what you have been working on this Friday.

TUESDAY: HEY BULLY, BULLY!

Working on spatial awareness!

The students were lucky to watch a presentation by the Story Theatre Company out of Victoria today. The title of the play was, "Hey Bully, Bully!" Click here to read a brochure on the different presentations they offer schools. They have traveled across North America and presented to many different schools.

Students - You have two 'POST A RESPONSE' items tonight. You can choose one or the other.

1.) MATH 6: Pg. 306-307 and have tests signed by your parents.
MATH 7: Rounding worksheet (1 side).

2.) FRENCH 6/7: Writing component due tomorrow.

3.) WRITE A RESPONSE #1:

What did you learn from today's presentation on bullying?

MONDAY: ESTIMATING AND CALCULATING

3/10/2014

The grade 7 students continued learning how to multiply decimals today. They learned the importance of estimating before calculating their work. It was nice to see the students having their 'AHA' moments when they figured out why they needed to estimate before calculating. They now know that estimating helps them correctly place the decimal in their final answer.

In addition to this, the students learned about music composition today using Garage Band on the iPads. The students are learning about different instruments, how to record, and how to pace themselves using a metronome. The students were working on repeating sounds using the high tom, low tom, ride cymbal, bass drum, and crash cymbal. The students will continue composing their music to express themselves and will incorporate this into their year end Passion Projects.

Complete all remaining questions for 3.4 (textbook). Mark and correct at home. We will go over the challenging questions in class tomorrow.

FRIDAY: GENIUS HOUR

The students started the day by reinforcing their comprehension skills by getting some practice using many of the reading strategies they have been working on since the beginning of the year.

After recess, SAFE SCHOOLS gave a special presentation on digital citizenship and social responsibility. To many students, this was an eye opener and gave them some perspective on privacy and using social media.

Later in the afternoon, the students continued working on their Genius Hour projects. Before the end of the day, the students received their report cards and had an opportunity to speak to Mr. Hong about their learning achievements and successes.

THURSDAY: What in the World?!?!?!?

Today, we learned about different things like monarch butterflies and the Sochi Olympics. We wrote our visible thinking on the pages and answered questions to help our understanding. Later in the day, we worked on our reflections for the projects we have recently completed. For example, our culture projects, 'A Day in the Life of Me' projects and a few other assignments.

Everybody completed a satisfaction survey in class today to rate themselves as learners and their ability to follow and pay attention to the learning process. It gave me good insight into how the students learn, which type of learner they are, and what types of lessons, assignments, and projects they prefer. The survey results also told me that the majority of the students really enjoy school and learning. I'm proud to be your teacher guys!

A Day in the Life of Me Projects are due tomorrow.
Be sure to follow your criteria sheet.
You must include a title for each image.
Explain which skills you used. This can be done on the presentation or on pg 2 of your criteria sheets.

3.) FIELD TRIP:

Bring your swimming gear tomorrow. We will leave school at 11:30am. If your parent haven't filled out a volunteer driver form, ask them to arrive a little earlier and to fill it out at the office..

MONDAY: A Day in the Life of Me Projects

What goes up, must come down!

Today we had a special guest in the class. Ms. Zaporteza is volunteering in our class to gain experience to apply to the SFU teaching program. She will come in every Monday on a weekly basis. After a brief intro presentation from Ms. Zaporteza, we completed some reading comprehension activities which reinforced our reading strategies. In math, the grade 7's practiced adding and subtracting decimals, and learned how to multiply decimals using hundredth grids. It was an inside day for lunch, and we all built the tower shown in the picture. After lunch we had library and took more photos for our 'A Day in the Life of Me' Projects.
