Welcome to division 6! I will be updating our class website on a regular basis to give you a peek into the learning we do inside our classroom! You will be learning math, career education, PHE, and French with me! If you are in division 5 or 7, you will only be learning Math with me! I am looking forward to helping all ofyou learn this year!

Today, students started the day off with music with Ms. Chung. Afterwards, we had ADST and a lesson on digital citizenship lesson. We continued learning about order of operations in Math and worked on concluding paragraphs for writing in the afternoon.

IMPORTANT:
1.) PRO-D DAY: Monday, January 23rd, 2023.

2.) ICE SKATING TO SUNSET RINK: Tuesday, January 24th, 2023. If your parent is driving as a volunteer, make sure they bring their driver forms directly to the office to have their driver's license verified by Ms. Horne or Ms. Samiei.

ORDER OF OPERATIONS!

Today, students had the UBC Commerce students visit our class for their third visit on entrepreneurship. Today, they learned about artificial intelligence. They will be planning and creating drawings of a robot this month. In math, students learned how to use order of operations and listened to a wonderful song about it. In Writing, we continued learning about different types of essay hooks.

IMPORTANT:
1.) ICE SKATING: Return forms asap. PARENT VOLUNTEERS, please be sure to have your informatino verified by bringing in your volunteer drive form and license to Ms. Horne.

2.) CHURHILL FORMS: Return when you have all the information and application completed.

LEARNING PLANNER:
1.) READING: 30 minutes

2.) MATH: Complete first 2 pages (ORDER OF OPERATIONS) and mark using the answer key.

Today, we finished off the rest of the inquiry presentations. We have 2 more left to go. These students have been away and have been given some extra time. Tomorrow we will work on compiling all your inquiry notebooks and related materials. We will then work on the learning reflection together in class (long sheet). Students continued working on their math work from yesterday since they were not given much time yesterday. In the afternoon, the had music with Ms. Chung.

IMPORTANT:
:1.) REPORT CARDS: They will be handed out at the end of the month. If you have not uploaded any assignments or completed learning reflections, be sure to do this on TEAMS ASSIGNMENTS.

2.) ICE SKATING: Return forms ASAP.

3.) CHURCHILL FORMS: Return forms when completed. The sooner the better to secure your spot at Churchill next year! If you are applying to mini schools, you must still apply to Churchill!

THE INQUIRY PROCESS

Today, students started their days off with music and then worked hard on their inquiry projects. In the afternoon, students completed a self-assessment of their term 1 performance in all subject areas and answered a few questions. Reports will be sent home at the end of the month. Tomorrow, students will present their recent inquiry projects.

IMPORTANT:
1.) SKATING FIELD TRIP:

Return field trip forms ASAP.
January 24th: 12:45pm - 1:45pm skate time
February 1st: 1:30pm - 2:30pm skate time

2.) Gr. 7 CHURCHILL FORMS: Return when completed. Please return at your earliest of convenience.

MATH IS EXCITING!

Today, students continued working on their 5-Paragraph essays. In PE, they learned how to do lay-ups and scrimmaged with their classmates (3-on-3). IN Math, the excitement was amazing! Students were actively engaged in their work and loved every minute of it! The learning during math was amazing! In the afternoon, students continued working on their inquiry projects.

IMPORTANT:
1.) ICE SKATING FORMS: Student return forms asap. Drive volunteer forms must be returned to Ms. Horne by the parent who is volunteering. They must show her their license to confirm the information.

2.) CHURCHILL FORMS: Complete with your parents and return when completed. (Gr. 7).

Today, you made much progress on your inquiry projects. You will have time every day this week to finish it up. We will be presenting on Friday. In Writing, we reviewed essay structure and continued working on our intro paragraph and our body paragraphs. In math, we were able to learn how to convert fractions to decimals and decimals to fractions. We will continue practicing this tomorrow.

IMPORTANT:
1.) ICE SKATING FIELD TRIP: Return volunteer driver forms and permission forms ASAP. Tomorrow if possible. Please do not leave it until the last minute. Physically give it to your parents and ask them to sign it. Then, put it in your planner to give to me tomorrow! :)

How to write a 5 Paragraph Essay

Today, students dove deeper into writing. They looked at an example of an intro paragraph and body paragraph that they will use to model theirs after. Tomorrow, students will continue writing their intro paragraphs and body paragraphs. In math, students learned how to divide decimals. In inquiry, students continued working on their presentations and receiving feedback on their phase 3 and 4 handouts.

IMPORTANT:
1.) VOLUNTEER DRIVERS: Please ask your parents to see if they can volunteer! We need more drivers for both days (January 24th and Feb 1st).

LEARNING PLANNER:
1.) READING: 30 minutes

BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT

GOALS

Today, students learned more about 5-paragraph essay structure today. We reviewed structure and students started developing their thesis statements using the brainstorming from yesterday. We will continue working on this for the next month. In math, they continued learning about decimals and later in the afternoon we visited Churchill to watch a few basketball games. Students were excited to be part of this exciting sports event!
IMPORTANT:
1.) GRADE 6: Students please give your parents the MDI handout that went home today. Have them review it and return it ONLY IF THEY DO NOT WANT YOU TO PARTICIPATE.

LEARNING PLANNER:

HOLIDAY WREATH

Today, students learned 'How to determine what is important'? in Language Arts as an instrumental reading strategy. In PE, students self-assessed their volleyball skills and then had some free time in the gym playing dodge ball. After recess, students worked on self-assessments and writing reflections for their evaluated assignments on TEAMS. Some students finished off their holiday wreath assignments. We ended the day off with our inquiry class and learned more about checking websites for reliability.

IMPORTANT:
1.) WORD WORK TERM 1 TEST: Friday! Definitions and spelling!
2.) FRENCH PROJECTS: Due tomorrow! Upload to the FRENCH PROJECT assignment on Teams.

Today, students worked hard on brainstorming, planning, and implementing a plan to make their holiday wreaths. Most students are well on their way to decorating a festive holiday wreath. We will hopefully finish these off by Wednesday. In the afternoon, we continued delving into our new inquiries on ancient civilizations and global issues.

IMPORTANT:
1.) WORD WORK TERM TEST: Friday

LEARNING PLANNER:
1.) READING: 30 minutes

2.) WORD WORK: Term test on Friday - all words from this term!

3.) ART: Bring any other decorations you want for your wreath.

4.) POST A RESPONSE: (<-Post in the writing channel on TEAMS)

LEARNING INTENTION: I can explain what how to make a holiday wreath while using transition words that indicate order.
SUCCESS CRITERIA:
1.) PARAGRAPH FORMAT: intro/body/ conclusion.
2.) GIVENS: Pay close attention to your spelling, capitals, punctuation, grammar, sentence structure, etc.
3.) INTRO: Make it as exciting and engaging as possible.
4.) BODY/SUPPORTING SENTENCES: You must use transition words that show sequence. For example (Firstly, secondly, finally, etc)
5.) CONCLUSION: Tie up your paragraph smoothly.
6.) PEER FEEDBACK/SELF-ASSESSMENT: Give 1 student 2 things to improve on based on the above criteria.
7.) REVISED VERSION: Based on the feedback you receive or the self-assessment you complete, post a revised version as a reply to your original post.
