WORD WORK TEST TOMORROW

Today, the students started the day by warming up and running around the school grounds for Terry Fox. If you haven't seen the posted video yet, please watch it. He symbolizes so much for Canadians and people affected by cancer all over the world. After recess, students had some time to work on their collages and in the afternoon, we continued learning about the inquiry process. Students narrowed down their questions and came up with some sub questions.

1.) READING: 20 minutes / log / parent signature

2.) WORD WORK: Test tomorrow on spelling and definitions.
WORDS AND SOME DEFINITIONS:
factor, multiple, prime number, composite number, dividend, product, quotient, divisor, self-regulate, principles, learning intention (the learning destination), success criteria (what to do to achieve success), peer assessment (looking at friends work to see what they need to improve), self-assessment (looking at own work to see what you need to improve) descriptive feedback, ownership (being able to explain your learning using the big 6), and Eratosthenes.

3.) ART: Bring supplies for collage

4.) INQUIRY/SOCIAL STUDIES: Come up with at least 3 sub questions for Monday.

5.) POST A RESPONSE:

FIRE DRILL

Today, we had our first fire drill. Prior to the drill, we reviewed expectations and procedures. The students did a great job, but we have some room for improvement! Next time, we will create a C-Chart for fire drills so we can ensure we can model for the rest of the school! The Gr. 6 students had an info session on vaccinations today and they will be given their shots next Tuesday. Students started working on their collages by cutting out letters and pictures from magazines. Please be sure to bring pictures, photos, materials from home. Between recess and lunch, we had our first lesson on digital citizenship. Students learned about balancing their digital media consumption with off-line activities. Parents, click here to review the lesson. They ended the day with music class with Ms. Chung.

LEARNING PLANNER:
1.) READING: 20 minutes, log, and have parents initial your sheets. You will submit your sheets at the end of the month.

2.) ART: Bring materials for your collage tomorrow (photos, pics, materials, 3D items, magazines, etc)

3.) INQUIRY/SOCIAL STUDIES: Create at least 5 inquiry questions that you may want to research on your handout.

4.) PLANNERS: Have your parent initial it so I can verify they have looked at it and checked to see you have completed your daily work.

5.) POST A RESPONSE:

LEARNING INTENTION: I can write a paragraph explaining a plan on how I can balance my digital media usage. (Be specific)
SUCCESS CRITERIA:
1.) PARAGRAPH FORMAT: intro/body/ conclusion.
2.) GIVENS: Pay close attention to your spelling, capitals, punctuation, grammar, sentence structure, etc.
3.) INTRO: Make it exciting and engaging.
4.) BODY: Include at least 2-3 supporting points and examples.
5.) CONCLUSION: Tie up your paragraph smoothly.
6.) PEER FEEDBACK/SELF-ASSESSMENT: Give 1 student 2 things to improve on based on the above criteria.
7.) REVISED VERSION: Based on the feedback you receive or the self-assessment you complete, post a revised version as a reply to your original post.

READING PRE-ASSESSMENT

Today, students started the day off by beginning their physical and health education self-assessment. They completed their 2 lap run around the school grounds, sit-ups, and push-ups. The purpose of this is to compare their results when we do it again in the second and final term. The hope is that their results continue to improve all year! Later, students also completed a self-assessment for reading. They read a poem and wrote about reading strategies that they were aware of and how they used them to find the big idea of what they read. This will give me a great idea of what the students know and what they have to learn! It is exciting for me as a teacher to do this at the beginning of the year. In the afternoon, we started had our first inquiry lesson in the library. Learning how to 'inquire' will be extremely important this year in Social Studies and Science.

IMPORTANT:
1.) Grade 6 students Vaccinations: Tomorrow at 9:30am in the library.

LEARNING PLANNER:
1.) READING:

Read for 20 minutes and make sure you log it on your log sheet.
Don't forget to have your parents initial it.

2.) ART:

Collect and bring things for your collage (photos, pictures, drawings, magazines, etc)

3.) INQUIRY/SOCIAL STUDIES:

Complete at least 5 questions you are curious about researching (handout).
DUE WEDNESDAY.

4.) POST A RESPONSE:

We have been creating action criteria charts (C-CHARTS) for various actions/behaviours since school started. Creating expectations and rules for our class is very important.
LEARNING INTENTIONS: I can explain the importance of C-Charts.
SUCCESS CRITERIA:
1.) Paragraph format (intro/body/conclusion)
2.) INTRO - Make your first sentence exciting and engaging for your audience.
3.) BODY - include at least 2 reasons why C-Charts / Action Criteria charts are important for us to create and follow.
4.) GIVENS: Check your work for spelling, capitals, sentence structure, grammar, and spelling.
5.) PEER FEEDBACK: Read and give at least one person 2 things they can do to improve their paragraphs. For example, let them know if they need to correct their spelling, or if they didn't include an engaging hook, etc.
6.) REVISION: Reply to the feedback you receive and edit/revise your paragraph. if nobody gives you feedback, do a self-assessment with the criteria above and post your 'revised' paragraph.

MEET THE TEACHER

6-7 pm

Today, students had their final hiphop dance class and ended the day with a very enthusiastic performance in front of the entire school! It was amazing to see the students start the week with the basics and end with a very well rehearsed routine! Well done, everyone! Students were introduced to their next art assignment. They will be doing an 'ALL ABOUT ME' collage. They are asked to find pictures, images, items, etc to put on their collages for Monday. please bring some materials to school to work on it next week. In math, they continued reviewing basic math facts. Next week, we will dive into the new material.

IMPORTANT:
1.) MEET THE TEACHER: 6-7 pm tonight.

LEARNING PLANNER:
1.) MATH: Complete all booklets, mark, and do all corrections.

2.) LA: Grammar worksheets from earlier this week.

3.) ART: Start collecting photos, pictures, drawings, items that you want to use for your 'ALL ABOUT ME' collage. Please bring materials to school on Monday.

4.) POST A RESPONSE:

HAPPY TUESDAY!

Share kindness!

Today was a very productive day for the students! They started the day with their first hiphop dance class. They learned about the 'b-boy stance' and learned how to do various other dance moves. We are excited to see what they put together for us on Thursday! They continued reviewing math facts today. We will continue for this week and start the new curriculum next week. Students who want to challenge themselves with the Gr. 8 math course can write an assessment on Thursday. During lunch, students listed to the read aloud on the book, "Ground Zero." Students did some school grounds clean up today and then ended the day with music class.

IMPORTANT:
1.) Check the website on a daily basis and follow all instructions.

PLANNER:
1.) MATH: Complete booklet. We will mark it in class tomorrow.

2.) READING: Read for at least 20 minutes.

Today, students started the day with music class and it was followed by PE. Students are now becoming accustomed to our classroom expectations and our action criteria charts to help them with their mindfulness and self-regulation. They continued to do some math review, completed an LA-WRITING pre-assessment, and are on the final stretch of their name cards. They are learning how to follow learning intentions and success criteria for their first art assignment.

Welcome to Division 2!

Welcome to division 2! I am happy to be your teacher this year! I'm looking forward to helping you learn this year! I have planned a fun and exciting year of learning for you. I am certain you will the most amazing year ever! We have fun art activities, field trips, outdoor activities, etc planned throughout the year! #TheLearningNeverStops "LET'S GO!"

IMPORTANT:
1.) SCHOOL SUPPLIES: Bring a 2 inch binder to school or several smaller binders. We will mainly using binders this year.
