Think of a different extreme environment that you have yet to post about. Think of technology that has revolutionized the way we EXPLORE and LEARN about this extreme environment.
Do not list things like a computer. Get creative and do some research. Find something unique and interesting that you don't think any other student will think of. For example, there may be an invention that allows divers to explore the ocean depths.
Be sure to list what your invention is, who invented it, what it does, and good supporting points and of how this invention helps us LEARN.
Be sure to provide at least one reliable source. This is a requirement.
Ask 2 students questions about the items they mentioned.
Respond to any questions you receive.
Edit/revise if you receive any feedback.

MID CHAPTER QUIZ TOMORROW!
Review questions: Pg 166-167 #1-7 A and B only for each question. Also, complete #7-10. Make sure you mark your questions as you go. If you can do these questions, you will do great on the mid-chapter quiz tomorrow.

2.) POST A RESPONSE:

If you were to go on an exploration into any extreme environment, which one would you explore?
Why would you explore this extreme environment?
Explain as many different items in each category that you would take with you:

a.) Protection: (clothes, cold, sun, heat, protection from the weather, etc)
b.) Energy: (foods, fluids, equipment for cooking, etc)
c.) Transportation: (how you will transport yourself and your equipment)
d.) Communication: (how will you communicate with your family and scientists)

Do not simply list items. Be sure to explain how it will help you.
Ask one other student an interesting questions about one of their items.
Respond to any comments/questions.

TUESDAY: Extreme Environments - Technology

Today, students learned about different types of technologies that have helped the Inuit people survive in sub zero temperatures. They learned how they have kept warm in igloos, travel on dog sleds, use primitive sunglasses that protect their eyes, and where appropriate clothing that is breathable and contains their body heat to keep them warm. Today's post a response will be on different types of technology that allow people to survive in different extreme environments.

1.) MATH 6: Any assigned work. Check your teacher's website.
MATH 7: Page 165 Complete the rest of the questions.

2.) SCIENCE:

Complete the questions assigned in class today at the end of today's reading (booklet 2)

3.) POST A RESPONSE:

Do some research and find at least 1 important piece of technology that helps humans live and perhaps survive in any extreme environment.
List at list 2 detailed points about how this technology helps. (DETAILED) Do not simply state a point without an explanation.
Do your best to mention ones that have not been mentioned on today's post a response. Also, do not mention anything that was learned in class. I want to see if you can research on your own!
Provide a link to your reliable resource.
Ask at least 2 students questions about their technology.
Respond to any comments/suggestions you receive.

MONDAY: Exploring Extreme Environments

Today, we learned about the different things we can learn from exploring extreme environments. We learned that explorers from the past explored for different reasons. Why do you think many people risk their lives to explore different extreme environments like the polar regions? Your post a response will be related to the daily blurb and today's Science lesson.

1.) MATH 6: Any assigned work. Check your teacher's website.
MATH 7: Complete pg 165 #1-4

2.) SCIENCE:

Complete questions #1-4 on Page 175 if you haven't already done so. (Second booklet).
Mark your work at home.

3.) POST A RESPONSE:

What do you think we can learn from exploring different extreme environments?
List three extreme environments and what you can learn from exploring each of them. (PROVIDE DETAILS AND EXPLAIN)
Try to think outside of the box and mention something not discussed in class or something that hasn't been mentioned on the blog.

FRIDAY: Business Education and Studying Polar Regions

Business Education

Today, Mrs. Nyles completed the final two lessons on business education and entrepreneurship. The students were able to see the production differences between one person creating a single product and also how efficient an assembly line is in doing the same task. Many students from Division 4 have been working on creating and running their own businesses this term and what they have learned from the Junior Achievement organization will be instrumental in how they run their businesses.

1.) MATH 6: Any assigned work. Check your teacher's website.
MATH 7: Any incomplete work.

2.) SCIENCE:

Review booklet 1
Read the first few pages of the second booklet and complete the first set of questions (Try this or Check your Understanding)

3.) POST A RESPONSE:

Watch this video and review what we learned in lass on Friday about studying the Arctic regions.
How and what can we learn from drilling into the arctic regions?
Be sure to provide supporting sentences (evidence) from the video that clearly shows you understand how scientists learn from studying ice.
Provide feedback to at least 2 other students.
Respond to any questions/feedback you receive.
Edit/revise your work.

WEDNESDAY: Extreme Environments

Business Journal

Today, students started learning about extreme environments. We had a lively discussion about how life could exist in places that are extremely hot, cold, and places that do not have any oxygen. Many students were able to add to the discussion with their excellent questions. These questions will be answered over the next few weeks as the students inquire about extreme environments.

Also, the students were given a presentation by the Junior Achievement organization. They learned business basics about starting and owning a business, creating resumes, and about the interview process. Mrs. Nyles will be back on Friday to continue her presentation. Parents, please take a moment to ask your child about what they learned today.

1.) SCIENCE:

Read the pg 164-66 of the booklet.
Complete questions #1 and 2 on pg 165 and Questions #1-3 on pg 166.
Bring your booklet back to school tomorrow (tallies will be given if you do not have this with you tomorrow. Take ownership of your learning.

2.) MATH 6: Any assigned work. Check your teacher's website.
MATH 7: Pg. 162 # 1-4

3.) POST A RESPONSE:

Today, you learned more about extreme environments. Post the name of the extreme environment that you are really curious about.
Post 3 quality questions you have about this extreme environment. (QUALITY QUESTIONS: Something that you don't know the answer to and that requires deep thought.)
Do some research online using your reliable research skills and try to find answers to these questions. Post your answers in YOUR OWN WORDS.
Also post 2 interesting facts about your extreme environment.
List at least 2 reliable sources.
Ask two students one QUALITY QUESTION about their extreme environment.
Reply to all questions you receive.

Research 1 different sports team and do the conversions.
Be sure to show the calculations/questions you are using. You are permitted to use a calculator.
If you don't write down your questions/equations, you will not receive any partial marks just for writing the answers.
Quiz tomorrow on converting decimals, percents, fractions, and ratios.

Research/statistics assignments on converting fractions/percents/decimals/ratios.
Research any sports team of your choosing. Find out how many games they won, lost and if the information is available, the number of ties. You can search these stats out on www.nba.com, www.nhl.com, www.nfl.com, etc. You are also permitted to use your own sports team's statistics if you play a sport.
Set your Google Spreadsheet up like the example from class. Click here to view it.

Today, students started writing their first novel approach reading assessment. They started in the morning by writing down their visible thinking for 'THE GIVING TREE' and in the afternoon they transferred their information over to the graphic organizer according to the criteria for a powerful response. Tomorrow, students will start writing their actual responses.
