Do not memorize word for word but be able to explain the important facts about each of your sections. Remember, you are the expert and you will be the teacher on Thursday/Friday. 4.) POST A MESSAGE: Take a look at this website: http://www.socialstudiesforkids.com/subjects/ancientcivgeneral.htm - This is just one resource that you can use, feel free to do some additional research. - In your own words, explain what you think 'CIVILIZATION' means? - In your opinion, what do you think are 3 important things that a civilization must have? - PowerPoint presentations must be completed by Monday. - Your sources for your information must be included at the bottom of each of your slides. Most of you will have one or two for your online sources, your science textbook, and one for your multimedia (picture and/or video) - Make sure you have organized your information and multimedia in a neat manner that does not detract from the purpose of your presentations. - Also, don't forget that you must not use animations/transitions that detract from the content of your slideshow. - Once you complete your slideshow, share or email it to Mr. Hong and your partner so that we can give you feedback. We will do peer assessments in class on Monday so please make sure you share/email it by then. 2.) MATH 6 - Complete the rest of the questions for Chapter 9 Lesson 3 MATH 7 - Ask your friend what the HW is. I don't know what Mrs. Van assigned. 3.) POST A MESSAGE: How are thesis statements different from topic sentences? 1.) Science - Make sure you have fully edited your summaries so it is in your own words/voice. Many of you have simply paraphrased your research. Do not simply copy/past and then change a few words. You should learn everything about each of your sections and then write your summaries. It is not a good idea to have your research right next to you when you're writing your summaries because students often feel compelled to read it and follow the exact same structure.
We will be working on your presentations all morning. YOU MUST BE READY TO WORK ON IT! I will check to see that you have made the edits/revisions from the feedback that I have given you. 2.) POST A MESSAGE: This message has to do with Art. Who is 'BANKSY' and what type of art does he create? Post a little bit of information about him and post it here. 1.) Math 6 Pg 302 (#1-6)

(attach the file as an attachment). If you don't know how to do this, post a message. 3.) LA - Thesis statement worksheet corrections, Thesis statement quiz tomorrow, and Writing Rocket worksheet. (The majority of you have completed the worksheets already) 4.) POST A MESSAGE - We discussed the 'Stop Online Piracy Act' (S.O.P.A.) in class today and how the U.S. government is trying to censor certain websites that have to do with the online streaming of tv shows, movies, etc. China is a communist nation and their government blocks/censors many websites so their people are unable to learn about certain topics that the government deems inappropriate. - Define censorship in your own words. - In your opinion, do you believe that censorship is good or bad? Give at least one good reason why you chose your answer. 1.) MATH 6 - Chapter 9 Lesson 3 worksheet (all questions)
MATH 7 - Pg. 119 ALL QUESTIONS. Mark at home using the back of your textbook. 2.) POST A MESSAGE: List at least one form of communication that you can use to communicate with your Science partner and explain how you could use it to improve your communication with your Science partner. Think out of the box on this one (idiom) and see if you can list one that has not been mentioned yet. 3.) SCIENCE Share 2 files with your partner and Mr. Hong on Google Docs. Only allow comments, and not edits. I.) Your file with all of your research/sources II.) Your summaries HOMEWORK ASSIGNMENT: Compare your partner's summaries with his/her research. For each section, you must make give them feedback on their 'SUMMARY' file in the comment stream of Google Docs. Remember to be specific with your feedback. Read below for more information. (Alternatively, you may email your comments to your partner but if you do this, you must include me on that email.) Peer Feedback example: 1.) Did your partner summarize the information or paraphrase it? Example comment: You paraphrased your research and you did not summarize it. When you summarize information, you need to include only the important facts. Also, if you summarize 4 pages of research, you would probably end up with a 1 page summary. If you paraphrase 10 pages of research, you end up with at least 10 pages in your paraphrase. 2.) Does the information flow smoothly? Example comment: Your information did not flow smoothly and I would suggest organizing your information so that it is chronological. 3.) Did your partner use transition words? Example comment: Good use of transition words. However, I would recommend that you add a few more in between your final 2 sentences to show that you are concluding your information on that topic. You can use, "In summary" or "In conclusion". 4.) Is your partner's work complete? Example comment: You completed all of your summaries except for your section on Faults. Make sure you review your research and notes that you took from your textbook, and properly summarize your information in a clear, logical paragraph. 5.) Important facts Example comment: You included a few points in your section on 'FAULTS" that were unnecessary. Take out your third and seventh sentences because they are off topic. Also, you did not include any information about ........ We will have a practice tomorrow morning (Tuesday) from 8:00am - 8:35am. All team members must show up to practice.
1.) Math 6 - Complete marking pg 297-298 using the back of your math textbook.

Once you have completed your summaries (tonight) please make sure you share it with me in Google Docs. I will review your work and give you feedback with the comment stream so be sure to read my comments. Tomorrow, we will be working with your summaries so have a hard copy of your work as well. Remember, you should always save your work in google so that you can work on it at anytime from any location. 3.) LA - If you haven't handed in your 'CABIN WINDOWS' for Hatchet, along with your QWILS, then it is late. You are losing marks for every day that it is not handed in. Email me if you have any questions. 4.) Idioms quiz tomorrow (since we didn't have time to do it today). 1.) LA - Hatchet Quiz and Idioms quiz on Monday.
2.) Science - Summarize all of your research. Remember, the best way to summarize your information is to learn the content of your research, and then write/type out everything you know about each of your subtopics in a logical manner. It is not a good idea to write your summaries while you read your research because often times, students 'PARAPHRASE' and forget to 'SUMMARIZE'. Don't forget to write logically and pay attention to the givens (spelling, grammar, punctuation, transitions, capitals, etc). Note, you need to 'SUMMARIZE' your research and the material from the textbook. 3.) MATH 6 - Watch this video on 'ESTIMATING DECIMALS' MATH 7 - Watch this video on 'MULTIPLYING WITH DECIMALS' 4.) Email a picture of your soapstone carvings to Mr. Hong. 5.) Bring your inside shoes to school on Monday. 6.) POST A MESSAGE: Explain the difference between 'SUMMARIZING' and 'PARAPHRASING' in a short paragraph (3-5 sentences). 1.) Read for 30 minutes
2.) LA - Idioms Quiz. (worksheet and yesterday's planner comments) 3.) SCIENCE - Read through your research and highlight important facts. Don't memorize it word for word. You will be the 'TEACHER' when you do your presentation next week and should be able to talk about your topic in your own words! If you are comfortable with all your material, feel free to start summarizing your information using your research and the Science textbook. 4.) Math 6 - Quiz tomorrow (round up, round down, number line, estimating, calculating, drawing diagrams using coins and adding, drawing diagrams using base ten blocks and adding.) Math 7 - Quiz tomorrow on addition/subtraction of decimal numbers. 5.) POST A MESSAGE: Please complete the following task and explain to your classmates how to do this (chronologically using transition words) in a short paragraph. ***Take a photo of your soapstone carving, upload it to your Google Documents, and share it with Mr. Hong. Let's see how many of you can figure out how to complete this task. In addition to this, feel free to share it with the rest of your classmates via Google Docs.*** |
