Today, the students continued work on their perspective photography in the form of a (spoilers) Mother's Day gift. They got plenty of sun as they took pictures around the school for 3D Art! After recess, the students prepared for our speaker, pastor Bethel Lee, preparing questions to be ready to ask, and building a C-Chart for Listening to Speakers. The students started their Algebra Unit by completing a Self-Assessment to see how far their learning will go. And after lunch the students continued their work on science, and started their work on their new Books for Novel Approach!

Be sure to hand in your field trip forms for the Planetarium trip on May 24th by the end of this week. If any parents are able to help out to drive, it would be greatly appreciated!

Start reading your new books, and get started on your Novel Approach Packages.

Tomorrow, you will have a representative of the Christian faith visiting our classroom to speak to you about Christianity.
We would like you to have some questions ready to ask. We do understand you will also come up with additional questions after listening to her speak.
After our preparation today, listening to everyone else's questions, and learning more about the history of Christianity please post at least 1 question that you plan to ask pastor Bethel Lee, tomorrow.
Do your best not to ask the same questions your classmates have already asked, and refer to yesterday's PAR if you want inspiration.

GEERING UP

Today, the students started their new unit on Track and Field in PE. The class continued to work with French, practicing our ingredients with different kinds of pizzas. In the afternoon, the division 2 students were lucky to have two visitors from UBC teach them about Newton's Laws! I was a proud teacher to see that the Gr. 6 students were really able to connect their learning from Science to excellent demonstrations by true scientists and engineers!

CHEMISTRY

Today, the students started off the day by working in their sports day teams to come up with their CHEERS! The class then kicked off their religion inquiries by reviewing the CRAAP test, and reminding ourselves how to spot a website that may not be the best resource. The class continued to work on and wrap up their videos explaining how to solve problems through the integer rules, and the order of operations. In science, the grade 7s started their unit on Chemistry, while the grade 6s took a trip outside to stargaze using an iPad app, and spotted the planets and some constellations. At the end of the day, the class listened to a presentation from the Kitchen with a Mission, where they learned about how they can help homelessness.

Today, the class started the day with some housekeeping. The class went through their math test from the previous week, performed a self-assessment, and uploaded it to FreshGrade. They then proceeded to their final Tennis lesson of the year. After recess, Mr. Collins introduced the beginning of a new photography unit in art, where the students inquired about 'perspective photography.' In the afternoon, the class visited Churchill, across the street, for a Matinee performance of Grease.

IMPORTANT: Student, please go online and pay for camping. We need you to pay this ASAP. Thank you for your cooperation!

1.) MATH:

We will finish off the learning videos for order of operations and multiplying/dividing integers tomorrow.
Make sure you have completed your Order of Operations workbooks

2.) SCIENCE:

Gr. 6's: All projects must be submitted tomorrow.
Gr. 7's: To be updated

3.) POETRY:

All 3 poems with pictures/images must be submitted on paper tomorrow.

4.) POST A RESPONSE:

"A picture is worth a thousand words."
Find a picture of nature that you like, and write a detailed paragraph describing it.
Your paragraph should have an engaging hook.
Provide your peers with feedback to help them improve their work (sentence structure, grammar, punctuation, etc.) and make changes to your own to improve your work.

REMINDER: Some students have not yet shared their Powerful Responses with both Mr. Hong and Mr. Collins

ORDER OF OPERATIONS

Today, the students started off with Fitness Friday, and a lap around the school. The students then buckled down to support our Buddies down in Ms. Millman's class to build models of the Statue of Liberty using only paper cups, pens, straws, pipe cleaners, and labels. The results were masterpieces, like the one pictured to the left. At the same time, Unaid and Justin, with the help of 4 other volunteers from Mr. Fisher's class lent a hand to Ms. Lee and Ms. Jivraj's class, as their students learnt all about cool new educational tech! The students then worked with Mr. Fisher's class to come up with team names and cheers for their teams during our upcoming sports day. We wrapped up the day by creating educational videos to help others learn about the Order of Operations, just like we had.

1.) MATH:

Complete order of operations math booklets and check answers at home.
Feel free to complete your learning video (multiplying/dividing integers and order of operations) and upload it to FreshGrade. However, you will be given more time on Monday to complete this.

2.) POETRY:

3 poems/pictures must be submitted on Monday. (on paper)

3.) LA/NOVEL APPROACH:

If you haven't already done so, you must upload a shared link (edit) to FreshGrade.
Mr. Collins, Mr. Wilson, and Mr. Hong will be evaluating them over the weekend. Look to receive feedback over the weekend. This will help you when we move on to the novels next week.

4.) SCIENCE:

Gr. 6 Newton's Law projects are due on Monday. If it is digital, upload it or a shared link to FreshGrade.

Today we helped our Buddies to start thinking about their own critical thinking, and we made educational videos to help us do the same.
Write a real or imaginary diary entry about a time when you used critical thinking to make a decision, build or plan something, or get you out of a jam.
Find a way to use 5 of the following words in your tale:

EARTHQUAKE

Today, the students started the day by starting to wrap up their Powerful Responses to their picture books. The students carried on hearing about Will's adventures aboard the boundless, meeting the artists of Zirkus Dante. The students reviewed order of operations during math, and after lunch the students were introduced to their upcoming Socials inquiry project! We arranged for a small earthquake today at 2:00pm so that we could practice our emergency preparedness. Our own Mr. Hong helped to 'mend' several 'injuries' to practice his skills for emergency response.

IMPORTANT: Grade 7s who have not already provided a contribution for the grade 7 celebration, the last day to do so is tomorrow!

1.) Poetry:

Please complete your 3 poems for sharing, including pictures and appropriate formatting. These will be handed in no later than Monday.

2.) Math:

Complete at least one of the three handouts from today. What you complete will be handed in for completion tomorrow.

3.) Novel Approach:

Please finish up your work on your Powerful Responses to your picture books. These are due tomorrow, and there will not be time to complete them during the day.

4.) Word Work:

Here are your words, make sure you know the spelling and definitions:

Today, as Mr. Hong was away again, we welcomed Miss Demmers into the class as our TOC. The students started their day by continuing to wrap up their poetry unit, and put together their favourite of their hand-written poems that they have been working on. The students played Tennis in the morning, trying out a 'King's Court' with everything they have learned so far. In math, we took integers a step further and started to multiply Integers together, working our way towards the Order of Operations. In science, the grade 6s finished up their work on their Newton's Laws projects, while the grade 7s wrote their unit test on Electromagnetism. At the end of the day, the students wrapped up by working on their Powerful Responses with their Book Clubs.

Important: Grade 7s who have not already provided a contribution for the grade 7 celebration, please do so by the end of the week!
