Belief Systems

Today, the class visited Ms. Altman in the library for the book fair, and perused the books that were on sale. The students continued to work on their badminton skills, practicing communication to their partners during doubles games. The students continued their work in Social Studies learning about belief systems, and starting to think about some inquiry questions related to the belief systems that the class came up with in the previous lesson.

We use our brains almost every minute of our lives. We use it for things like moving, exercising, talking, or studying. There are so many things in our everyday lives that require the use of our brain. Things that can damage our brain immensely are drugs, alcohol, having a concussion, or falling into a coma. I cannot stress enough that these aren't the only ones and there are many more harmful things to do to your brain, but they can be graphic too.

In the belief system it shows different types of beliefs systems and how to organize it to the right order. Believing in powerful people like a king or God, makes us believe that our life and/or situations are in good hands. We sometimes believe that technology has helped shape our society and has given us easier solutions/ways to do things.

What is the most valuable thing you own? Is it your electronic device? Is it your Ferrari 458 Spyder? Is it your private Boeing 757-200? No, no, and no. If you said your brain, you would be correct.

Your brain is the most important organ you own. It helps all the other workings and internal organs of your body function as they should and it helps you do a lot more than you can imagine. For example, my brain is functioning, therefore, I can control my muscles to type this. As a result, we need to take care of our brain so we don't become zombies. Even though they don't exist.

One way I will keep my brain healthy is to not waste brain cells playing dumb video games such as Fortnite, Roblox and Minecraft. These games are like drugs. The more you play, the more addicted you become, and you end up being drunk on video games. Sure, some games do improve hand-eye coordination, but T-posing in a desert in the cactus skin for five hours? What is wrong with you?

Another way I will keep my brain healthy is to try not to get walloped on the head by many things, and protect my head. If someone clobbers you on the head or your head takes a serious beating, watch out! You are on your way to Concussion City. Every time your head jounces (word work word!) around in your skull, you lose a few brain cells. This can cause brain damage and a concussion, which is a temporary unconsciousness due to a blo to the head. It is advised you wear a helmet that works to prevent such fatal injury.

The main idea couldn't be more obvious; your brain is an important part of your body, treat it well, and you will live. Treat it badly and you will die. That is why I will use these strategies to protect my brain.

The American government and Donald Trump

Is America still a Democracy? That was one of the questions I had while doing today's Social STudies activity. Now, Trump and the USA seem irrelevant to the topic of belief systems, but the government is a belief system and America has a government.

I always thought that America was a democratic government, but with the recent election of Trump, things have begun to change due to political turmoil. So, the question is, is America a republic or a democracy?

I often hear people argue that the United States is a republic, not a democracy. But that’s a false allegation. A republic is a state where supreme wealth is held by the people and their elected representatives, and also include s an elected president. A democracy, however, is government by the people, exercised either directly or through representatives that are voted in by the people.

The United States is not a direct democracy; it is actually a representative democracy, which is a form of democracy. The American form of government has been called a democracy, but in addition to being a representative democracy, the United States is also a constitutional democracy, in which courts restrain in some measure the democratic will. Therefore, the United States is also a constitutional republic. As a result, the United States might be labelled a constitutional federal representative democracy. It is not a direct democracy since all or most laws are made by direct popular vote which is impractical given the number and complexity of laws that any state or national government is expected to enact.

There is no direct evidence that the United States is somehow not a democracy, but a republic. Democracy and republic aren’t just words that a speaker can arbitrarily define to mean something. So, the type of government that America is, whether democracy or republic, remains a mystery to me.

I will ask you a question? Do you take care of your brain? Do you want to know about your brain? Why I ask that? Because brain is the most important thing in your entire body, isn’t it cool? Do you want to know more about your brain? Let’s read on.

What is a brain? Brain is the center of your nervous system, it control all the system in your body. For example, My brain is functioning, so I can move my arm and legs, but what if your brain is not working, it’s not good. Furthermore, if your brain is not working, you can do anything! So we have to take care our brain so we can keep our brain working.

The way I can keep my brain working is: Exercise more, exercise can work on your memory, so when I get old, I can still remember things. The second method is: stop playing video games, even though I am not playing video games recently. When I am playing video games, I am not using my brain, but my brain want to work, so that means you are not letting your brain work. If you are getting really good at the video games, stop and got outside, exercise.

In conclusion, I think we all have to take good care of our brain, because brain control every thing in your body, if the brain doesn’t work anymore, you can dance, or exercise, or do any other things.

Do you take care of your own brain?

First of all, what is the brain? The brain is part of the nervous system. The brain connects to nerves that travel throughout your body. Nerves from your senses ( hearing, sight, touch etc ) send signals to the brain to let the brain know what’s happening.

There are many things you can do to keep your brain healthy. Some things that I can do to keep my brain healthy is to exercise my body and brain and to drink water. Exercising your body and your brain helps the brain grow new brain cells and protects the connection among your cells. Since water is 80% of your brain drinking it improves your concentration and understanding.

In conclusion, your brain is a very important part of your body that you should take care of.

Yesterday, we had a presentation on our brains. Surprisingly I learned many new facts that I would have never considered. I learned that our brains are quite vulnerable at this state and we must protect them. Some ways to do that include: taking lots of omega 3, staying away from too much screen time, staying away from drugs and alcohol, de-stressing, and exercising. Something that I plan to do to protect my brain is getting more sleep and decreasing my screen time. I chose these two things because these are something that I struggle with and it really is affecting my mental health. I seem to doze off during school due to sleepiness. I also feel like I've become addicted to my devices. Social media has had a huge impact on my mental health/brain too. This is why I've started taking initiative and trying my best to sustain my brain at the state it is now. In conclusion, I learned how drugs and alcohol, electronics, social media, and all sorts of stuff affect our brains.

Global warming, multiverse, feminism, so many different topics to choose from.
One that really interested me was global warming. Global warming seems to be oblivious to some people and they don't see anything wrong. I find this funny because the proof is right in front of us. A question that I want to learn more about is “what is the government doing to help prevent global warming?” Global warming has always been something that interests me. In conclusion, global warming is a very broad topic and I still want to break down my question a little bit but I do want to inquire about global warming.

Yesterday, we had a presentation about our brains (teenage brains*), and I learned a lot of bizarre and interesting facts about our brains and how to keep them safe. We can be healthy by consuming fish, stay away from drugs and exercise. I plan to try to exercise more and get more sleep to keep my brain healthy.

During our socials project about beliefs, one that particularly interested me was about multiple universes (AKA the multiverse). I have always been interested with this topic but seems hopeless to pursue, because most of it are theories, because we couldn't actually PROVE the multiverse exists. "If the multiverse does exist, how would this affect OUR universe?"

Yesterday we were given a one-hour speech regarding the brain of a teenager, the speech described different actions that can both harm, and grow your brain. We were shown different pictures and comparisons of brains that were taken care of, and the ones that abused items that produced dopamine, a pleasurable chemical. There were meant everyday things that people of our age do, that we were directly told to stop doing, for reasons that harmed our brain, this included video games. He had said to stop playing any video games that we become skilled at, this is because we get used to the game, and our minds in a sense deactivate, and we let our hands do all the work. That part of the presentation shocked me, and I felt somewhat scared that I would ever be able to play games that require actual skill again. When I got home I started to think about the different things I do every day, and what should be changed, and there were quite a few things that were ok, but some habits needed to stop.

The first subject I tackled was video games, I started to think about the games I played and which ones I should play less. When I thought about games I had recently played, I noticed that almost all of them involved thinking in some shape or form. The platformers I have all require precise presses, and planning. The more story oriented games were troubling as many are quite easy to play, but the ones that I play involves thinking as well. I realized that almost all the games I play require me to stop and think about what to do next, which means I am not able to play entirely off of instinct, which was the problem the presenter had stated in the speech. In terms of video games, I feel that I can still have the fun I always had.

One of the other problems the presenter has stated was the use of phones, more specific things such as social media. I only use my phone for two things, texting, calling, and playing word-scapes. I see people who can’t let go of their phone for five minutes, when I got my phone I purposely avoided using it so I wouldn’t get too hooked on trends and social media. When the presenter brought up this subject, I felt very confident that I would not have to worry.

The last notable subject that was mentioned is addictive items. Things such as cigarettes, weed, cocaine, and alcohol all produce a pleasurable chemical known as dopamine. I feel somewhat confident that I will never get addicted to this, as I have very strict parents and I could not think what would happen if I just started shoving myself in a pile of weed.

In conclusion, there are many habits that I need to stop. However, I feel quite safe overall. Many addictions that others seem to be hooked on simply do not interest me, and I never thought about it in my life. I felt that the presentation was very helpful in understanding the risks of certain enjoyable actions, and I hope I can learn more about what it good and bad.

ONE ESSAY DOWN ONE MORE TO GO

Today, Mr. Collins had us split into groups so we can work together to categorize different phrases into belief systems. After we were finished, we were told to write about any question that we may have. There were some very interesting beliefs and phrases in our envelope, but there was only one that truly intrigued me, and that is that there are multiple universes.

This phrase made me instantly think about the multiverse theory. As a quick explanation, the multiverse theory works as so. When you are presented with choices, multiple parallel universes come to existence that mirror the other choices, if you were to be able to travel back in time, you wouldn’t be in your universe, you would be in a parallel universe. The multiverse theory has been something that intrigued me for years, but there has not been any proof of other universes. I have talked to my parents about it, but they never talk science, they just talk about god.

I absolutely want to research the multiverse theory more, and I have faith that we can find something. The multiverse theory is such a unique thought, and I want to do my absolute best to squeeze all the info out of it as possible.

There are many different mysteries in the world that have yet to be solved, things such as reincarnation or the multiverse theory have yet to be solved. Different belief systems help organize these different subjects, and it allows you to know who also shares the same thoughts as you do.

Brains are important. Without a brain, we wouldn’t think about thoughts and even dream. The are lots of things that use our brain. If we mess up our brains with drugs, alcohol, cigarettes and, vapours. In future, I will not drink alcohol, smoke, the bad things that will affect my brain. Also I want to decrease my screen time. In conclusion, I learned that electronics, drugs , alcohol and other things can affect our brains.

There are lots of belief systems. Believe in the Sikh god is a big part of my culture and me. Caming home, I always hear prayers from tv and aloud read by my grandpa. A question I have why do people are treating differently with their races? In conclusion, religion is a broad idea so I want explore this topic.

Our brain is wider than we thought! After the presentation, I believe we all learned something new and gained some background knowledge of our brain. In addition, we realized how important it is to protect our brain.

Some ways that we could do in order to protect our brain were getting enough sleeping time, exercising, drinking water, less screen time such as video games, and absorb more omega 3. Which we have mentioned eating fishes is definitely a good choice since there's a lot of omega 3 inside the fishes. Furthermore, we had also talked about things that we should keep away from doing since it's unhelpful on our way of protecting the brain. For instance, drugs and alcohol, having a phone beside you while your sleeping and eat too sugar on a daily basis. These are all common examples of how to ruin your brain. In conclusion, I enjoyed this valuable presentation so much and I acknowledge how important is it to learn to protect our brain.

In today's social lesson. We talked about different types of beliefs and how to classify them into different types of belief systems. There are some questions that I came up after the lesson, such as "How beliefs connect to this world and each of us. Would this affect our overall worldview? If yes, how?"

The Brain Coach presentation yesterday was a really good presentation and I really enjoyed it. But the most important part of the class was about how to keep our brains healthy, and how do we keep our brains healthy? We should always be eating a healthy diet by including fish and more fruits. And much of the facts were very fascinating, and I think we should be more on this subject.

Today, in social studies we learned more about beliefs, but what interested me the most was LGBTQ, this came to my mind because I am all about politics, and in interviews, everyone talks about LGBTQ.
And I would like to know if LGBTQ was the next fortunate, what will happen will everyone treat everyone equally then or not? Why or not why?

1. Your brain is the most crucial thing in your body. After all, it's the thing that allows me to type this PAR, and for you to read it! Without our brain, we would just be corpses lying on the ground. Well, after talking about how important it is to us, how are we supposed to keep our brains safe from danger?

Some people might think that we don't need to keep our brains safe because it's already protected by our skull. If you think this, you are completely and utterly wrong. For example, if you bang your head too hard, it is possible for you to have a concussion and have your brain be knocked around your head. This can make you dizzy, forgetful and receive headaches. If you take smoke, then your brain will start to deteriorate and have holes grow inside of it. If you drink alcohol, then your brain won't even be in control of your body anymore as you become drunk.

First of all, what I will do is get more sleep. The average time i went to sleep when I was younger was about 9:30, but now that time has changed to about 11. I think that I might try harder to go to sleep earlier. Maybe I can split all the stuff I have to do into the seven days of the week in order for me to go to sleep earlier. I can try leaving the things that take more time to do over a greater amount of days. lastly, I might try to set a time that I have to go to sleep, in order to make a routine.

Secondly, I will stay away from video games and screens. From what I learned from the presentation, I can see that when you are addicted to something, you don't learn anything from it. You already know what will happen, you can predict when things will happen, and it just kind of makes you brain dead and unaware about what is actually happening around you. I can limit the time I spend in front of a screen, and also do more things outside. I can also take breaks in between long periods in front of a screen.

Lastly, I can do more brain puzzles and riddles. These both stimulate the brain and require you to think more in order to receive the answer. Also, they are fun to do and there are always more on the Internet so you can do it whenever you want. There are many different types of these puzzles as well, so when you want to do this, you can also choose a crossword, a math puzzle or just something that you like.

In conclusion, your brain is actually very vulnerable. It can be damaged or harmed in many different ways, and we need to take care of it by doing what was said in the presentation.

2. Today during social studies, Mr. Collins gave us an engaging assignment to put the beliefs that we had thought up into categories. We discussed all the slips with our group members and places them into the category we thought was connected to the writing on the slips of paper. After that, we could make possible inquiry questions and then expand on them. I had a few that I wrote down and they are written below.

First of all, Religion. I noticed that all of the slips of paper in this category were types of religions, so I asked a question. "What is the base for calling a religion a religion and what differences are there between each type of religion"? The second category is Philosophy, which is a pretty wide topic. My question is "What are some of the more famous theories in Philosophy and what reason is there to support it"? The last one is for Science and Technology. I wrote "How advanced do people believe we should let technology go? After all, if everything is tech, it is possible that hackers can then take over everything."

In conclusion, there are some very important beliefs that have to be answered because it shows how much we really aren't sure about in the world. After we ask these questions, we can then be more interested in what the answers to those questions are.

Our brains are practically a command and control center for our bodies. It is what helps us move, sleep, talk, and basically everything else! It is especially important for us to protect this part of our body because the consequences can be huge if you don’t. Yesterday afternoon, we had a visitor come to our school to talk about the teenage brain. Here is what I’ll do to help protect my command center.

First, I’ll make sure to reduce screen time. No matter if it is watching TV, playing games, going on social media, or even studying, I think that I can reduce quite some screen time to help protect my brain. It may be hard at first, but I will try to slowly reduce it step by step. Second, I will try to exercise more. I can go out for a walk after dinner. I can go to the park and enjoy the nature. Next, I would like to de-stress myself. With all the things happening around you these days, it is easy to get stressed out about things. A strategy I always use to help relax myself is to take a deep breath and sometimes even go out for some fresh air (connecting to the point on exercising). Lastly, I will make sure that I keep away from drugs, alcohol, and cigarettes. These things can be highly addictive and cause a lot of trouble if you use them.

To sum up, these are the things I would like to do in order to protect the most important and valuable part of the body, the brain. I hope that everyone can take something from yesterday’s presentation and come up with something you can do to protect your brain. I have to say, the presentation certainly delivered a very significant message to us.

Everyone has beliefs. Everyone has values. Everyone has their own experiences. So, everyone has their own worldview. Some worldviews may be similar, while others may not. Though our worldviews are likely to change as we get to see others’ opinions and experience new things. Today, Mr. Collins taught us a lesson on belief systems. We sorted different beliefs into some main belief systems: philosophy, culture, science/tech, spirituality, government, and education. We also had to come up with questions for the beliefs. It was certainly very interesting to see my peers’ ideas and questions for these beliefs.

One of the beliefs caught my attention the most. It was global warming. We all know what global warming is and the consequences of it. Everyone knows. But does everyone do something to help it? Does the government do anything? We have so done quite some things to help global warming and climate change, but is it really working? We all say that we are doing something, but in the end, will we actually save our planet Earth? I still see cars outside, factories releasing more pollution, and people wasting energy. This is something I feel very interested in and concerned about because this is a necessary topic to talk about.

In conclusion, this is one question, I think, that will carry on with me because of how important it is. This can certainly affect our future and the future of our next generations. I hope that we can realize sooner that global warming is a real issue and that we are certainly still not doing enough to stop or prevent it.

On Tuesday, a brain coach came to our school to tell us about our brains and how to protect them etc. To make my brain healthy, I am going to get fresh air and ask more questions. I could exercise more to make my brain healthy. Remember, It's always important to keep your brain healthy as it is the most important part of the body! Without it, you cannot use any of your body parts, and you will die.

In socials, we are learning about beliefs. Beliefs are where you believe in a way or trust someone. I have a question about it. Why do most religions have a very powerful god or ruler person in it? I think that there it might be weird as if the "god" is so strong, it basically means they have rule over everything. It might not be true, but personally, I don't want anyone ruling over the earth. It makes me feel like a slave, or a homeless person on the street.

From the Brain Coach conversation yesterday, what are you going to be doing to make sure that your brain is healthy going into the teenage years and beyond?

Yesterday we had a presentation on the teenage brain. It showed me the different types of brains that people can have. It was really weird to see different brains that you could have. Over the years I’m going to make sure my brain will be healthy. To do so I’m going to have to not do drugs or drink. Those are one of the worst things you could do to your brain. He showed us a photo of a teenage boy smoking everyday from 13 or 14 until he was 17. He had holes in his brain and it was very uneven. I knew smoking was bad for you, but I didn’t know it was that bad. I never want to experience that so I’m going to stay away from it. He taught us how to avoid different situations and it was actually very helpful. Smoking and alcohol are so bad for your brain and body. It’s sad to see once people get hooked from it, they can’t stop. It’s so addictive and it makes people happy. A lot of users of these things are usually depressed or upset with something in their lives. There are so many more people dying from an overdose in Downtown Vancouver. I never want to try these things, I want to keep my life away from this.

He also talked about using technology. When my dad was a child, he didn’t have phones and other electronics like we did today. It was different for him. He used to go to the library to get his research. Now everything is online. He said if you play over 5 hours on a device a week, it’d bad for you. I already kind of knew that, but I didn’t think it was that bad. So many people use it and are addicted to it. It’s hard to get off it because everyone is on their phones now. Everyone has like a Instagram or a hangout that no one really calls on the cell phone. Even when people are at a restaurant with their family, everyone is on their devices not talking. This is a problem that is taking over the world. It’s going to be hard to quit, but you should take your time. Try not going on for an hour or so and work your way up. Soon you should only use your phone if it’s needing. It’s going to be very hard for people, but I think everyone could at least try. For myself I go on it a lot. I’m not going to lie about it. I should cut down a bit, but at home I’m actually quite bored at times. That’s why I watch a lot of stuff and I’m always active on Instagram:) Over the months and years, I’ll try and cut down, but it’s a lot more addicting now.

What questions from our Belief Systems lesson today are you hoping to pursue further, in school, or on your own?

We all have our own beliefs. Even if we stand alone, we are still strong. I didn’t really have any deep questions about beliefs systems. Some of the questions I saw were questions I already knew about. I want to learn more about belief systems because there are so many different types that I didn’t know about before. It’s really amazing to see all the different ones. I don’t have much to add to this since I don’t have that much knowledge on this. I hope to learn more about belief systems so at the end of the year I’ll know so much about them that I can explain to people what they’re and explore their beliefs!

I definitely think that I need to start eating healthier. I usually don’t eat very much at night but every time during art lessons, I’ll go grab a bag of chips or a drink. Drawing may not seem tiring but oh boy, it stresses me out sometimes haha. I think I could be able to eat healthier during lesson though.

To be honest, I didn’t write down a lot of questions since I couldn’t think of many at the time but there were a few. One of them was “What can we do to make the world a better place?” I think that this is one that I might look deeper into. I’ll probably do the research at both home and school if I have time. Obviously there are already answers I know to that question but maybe there are more that I don’t know about yet since there are many problems with our world today.

Have you ever been asked what was the most important thing in your life? Well, before I listened to a presentation, I would have said my computer or my house. After, my statement has changed drastically in my brain. Why? Firstly, because I wouldn’t be living and writing this essay without it. My heart would simply stop beating. Secondly, it’s where our knowledge comes from. Your brain would easily be considered as the first or second most significant organ. It’s the “captain” of your body, it controls all your external and internal organs.

After we’ve learned the vitalness of this “organ”, I can explain how to keep it healthy. One of the best ways is to not play video games. It reduces the rate the brain grows. There are many attractive games nowadays including, fortnite, PubG, and apex. These games may seem and are fun but they are extremely hazardous. They are similar to drugs. Highly addictive and kill brain cells. We’ve all seen one zombie movie in our lives, if we don’t want to be like them, STAY AWAY from video games and drugs. These games can also make us highly antisocial. They make us think differently, therefore, other kids will be repulsive of us.

Furthermore, we can protect our brains even more by staying away from drugs. being paranoid for this fact even good. Since we've all eaten scramble eggs before (or I assume) we know how it looks like. That's the result of a person taking drugs. when our brains look like scrambled eggs, we know it isn't good. Drugs and alcohol are also highly dangerous, even more, perilous then games. Games can only make us antisocial and repulsive whereas drugs can easily kill you with an overdose. We must stay away from these things if wish to survive.

Lastly, the best way to keep your brain healthy is to exercise every day. It will help your brain keep the "wall' well, hence allowing us to remember better when we are old. The wall also allows us to be healthy.

In conclusion, the most significant thing we own is the brain. The brain helps us do a lot of things. It keeps all the internal and external organs running. In other words it keeps you alive. To keep this awesome organ healthy we must do three things. Stay away from games and drugs. Lastly, we must exercise.

On Tuesday a brain teacher came to our school to give us lessons about rings and now I just know that if I take weed and alcohol my brain will be ruin for my brain I need to stay away from the weed and alcohol those are the 2 things that will damage my brain so I have to stay away from them.

What questions do I have about the belief system I think my question will be that why are people having different beliefs and how does belief system work
