Creation Stories

Today, we reviewed some creation stories of various belief systems. We reviewed the creation story of the Haida people, the Jewish and Christian creation story, and the creation story of the indigenous peoples of Australia. Your homework question for Social Studies today is question #2 from Pg. 113. "Why have the First Peoples continued to embrace their spiritual belief systems generation after generation, from time immemorial to the present?

The raven creation story.

The world was dark and gloomy. The raven learned the Chiefs daughter had a cedar box with the sun moon and stars in it. One night the reason snatched the box from the girl. The raven open the box and suddenly the whole world lit up. Since that day that was always the sun moon and stars.
All the creations story’s are unique in different ways.
That is the creation story I know.

The creation story I am most familiar with is the raven creation story. The world had no light so every human had to walk through the night. There was one group that had a cedar box that held the moon and stars. The raven saw a girl going to get some water. The raven turned into a pine needle and flowed into the water. The girl drank the water and gave birth to the raven as a baby a few days later. The raven took this opportunity to go look at the box. People didn't try to stop him because he didn't look suspicious as a baby. When he got to the box, he changed back into a raven freed the moon and stars into the sky. There are many different creation story's and they are all told in there own unique way.

Do you believe that the world was created be Adam and Eve? In fact, there are many different creation stories across the world. One similarity among the creation stories is that God gave birth to other Gods and formed the earth. For example, the Australian creation story is the Sun mother gives birth to the moon and morning star. The Egyptian story is that the world was full of chaotic water then the sun god Ra gave birth to the gods Geb the earth god and Nut the sky goddess. One difference among the creation stories is that the original earth is different in all cultures. To illustrate, the world was a shell. Then light came in and the two gods Rangi and Papa gave birth to 70 powerful gods that created the world. However, in Chinese culture, there was a man named Pangu that came out of chaos, and he formed the earth. In the Cherokee creation story, the world was an island floating in the sea. To conclude, even though all the cultures have different creation stories, it is fascinating to learn about the similarities and the differences they share.

In the world, there are at least more than two thousand cultures. Amongst these diverse cultures, major cultures or religions create their own creation myth. So, to compare two different creation stories, I will be expanding on the Genesis and Navajo creation myths. To start, the Genesis creation story describes how God created heaven and earth, plants, animals, and people. Later, the first people were cast out of the Garden of Eden as punishment for eating from the "tree of knowledge of good and evil." As for the Navajo creation story, it began with a First World of darkness. It had four corners, and over these appeared four clouds. These four clouds contained within themselves the elements of the First World. As the Black and White Cloud met, the First Man was formed. Now, what is the key difference between these two stories? To speak in simple terms, the creation of the world in one myth is an “unaccompanied and individual act,” while the creation of the other is a “shared activity”. In addition, the women who played a part in the two creation stories were very different. While one was responsible for the evil they brought into the world, the other was not. Moving forward, even though cultures around the world differ from each other, creation myth stories illustrate similarities. There are many similarities that creation stories share, although there may not be a lot. Some similarities these two stories share are that both stories have a message of good and evil, with God and the devil in the Christian story and the “Evil Mind” and “Good Mind” in the Navajo story. Additionally, the most significant similarity between the two stories are their creation of humankind. While God created the first man and woman in the Genesis creation, the Black and White Clouds formed the First Man in the Navajo creation. To conclude, there are many different and unique creation stories around the world, and although some may share similarities, all cultures are diverse in their own way.

All around the world, stories are created, told, and adapted. To this day, humans continue to do this. Hence, due to both similar ideas and residing in different places, the stories are similar and different. To illustrate, in the Australian Aborigine creation story, everything is asleep until the Father of all Spirits tells the Sun Mother to give forms to all of the Earth’s spirits. Meanwhile, in the Jainism creation story, nothing can be created nor destroyed, but just changed in form. These two creation stories are similar in the sense that the things were always there, but took different forms. However, the Sun Mother did have two children, who were the foundation of mankind. Therefore, the creation stories are different as well. Alongside these two creation stories’, the Heliopolis and Greek creation stories also have their similarities and differences. The Heliopolis creation story consists of the sun god, Ra, to create Shu and Tefnut, the god of air, and the goddess of moisture. Later, they created Nut and Geb, the goddess of sky, and the god of earth. This is similar to the Greek creation story because in this story, Chaos creates the sky good Ouranos, and the earth goddess Gaea, who create other beings, who created humanity. Both include the creation of the earth and sky gods to create the physical world. However, they are different because the Greek earth and sky gods were the first gods, whereas Nut and Geb were descended from the first god. In final analysis, there are many more similarities and differences of a countless number of origin stories, and those stories may continue to adapt and grow, bringing forth new similarities and differences. But, as Jane Austen once wrote, perhaps it is our imperfections that make us perfect for one another.

Some creation stories are the same and some are not. What are some examples of how they are same and also what are some examples of how they are different? Genesis” and King’s “The Earth Diver” has a handful of similarities! First of all, both stories begin with water. Parallels and binaries are also ubiquitous in both “Genesis” and “The Earth Diver”; they are more so apparent in the former, but the latter has them too. God in “Genesis” creates heaven and hell, night and day, and man and woman. The twins born of Charm in “The Earth Diver” create summer and winter, roses and thorns, sunshine and shadows; just like God in “Genesis”, the twins create man and woman. In “Genesis” there is an omnipresent, omniscient, and powerful creator who exists before everything else. In “The Earth Diver”, no such figure exists. Although it is unclear whether Charm was present before the existence of the Moose and the world/universe she inhabited prior to her accidental arrival on Earth. Some differences of other stories can start with different stuff, just like some creation stories start with water, or a god, or an animal. In conclusion, creation stories can be the same and also different in ways.

盘古 And Genesis

Do you want to know the similarities and differences to 盘古 And Genesis? In the story, 盘古 is the first person on earth that came out of chaos. 盘古 Separated the seas, put the mountains in their place, and gave the earth is form. He created the earth with the powerful knowledge of yin and yang. In the next story, God is the one that created the heavens and the earth. The earth was formless and God created the living thing and separated the seas to form land. God created everything in six days and left the seventh day a day or rest. First, the two story are similar when 盘古 and God all separated the seas to form the land and put everything in their place. Second, I think the difference is that when God said there to be light there is light, but 盘古 need to use the knowledge of yin and yang to form the earth. That is what I think the similarities and differences are.

There are different types of religions in the world.
The creation stories for Christianity and Judaism are similar.

I have 2 creation stories that I am mostly interested in:

The Indigenous Australian aborigine story was about the Indigenous people of Australia told a story about how the Earth was asleep. They said that the Father of Spirits was the only one that was active and also woke up the mother (sun). The Father of Spirits told the Sun Mother to give spirits to life. She woke up any kind of biotic elements. The Father of Spirits was grateful with her work. After that the sun mother got 2 children aka the Morning Star, and the Moon, that was how Indigenous Australians proposed on how the universe existed.

Another creation story was about a myth that came from Egypt. They think that disorganized water only existed at the Nile River they name it the Nun. Sun god aka Ra appeared from Lotus flower and gave brightness to the universe. Ra created Shu aka the Air GOD and Tefnut aka Goddess of moisture. These 2 then created Nut aka the Sky Goddess and Geb the GOD of earth and that was how ancient Egyptians created a theory on how the universe was formed.

They both have similarities that they have which is proposing how the universe was created, how life was formed, and they both had gods that they proposed.

The difference between Indigenous Australians and Ancient Egyptians was that they both are located at different places, different language, and they also had different GOD names.

In conclusion I think that creation stories are interesting because If it’s true we would be thankful for these gods and I really want to know how the universe was formed (proposed).

Later on, these gods gave birth to other gods, who angered Apsu to the point that he wanted them dead. As a result, a conflict arose between Apsu and Tiamat, giving the chance for a warrior named Marduk to fire an arrow at Tiamat and split her into two. Her dead corpse created the Tigris and Euphrates rivers, the heavens, and the earth. Both of these creation stories are similar because both myths contained several god-like beings that created the earth and all living beings. On the other hand, a difference between these two stories is that the Mayans believed the earth was created peacefully, while the Mesopotamian creation story included conflict during the creation of the world. In conclusion, learning about the different creation stories helps everyone learn about the perspectives of people from all around the world.

Religions like Judaism and Christianity have the same creation story.

Things around us just merely change forms. Also, the universe has always exist and will always exist. It is different from the Australian Indigenous creation story. The story tells how Father of all spirits woke the Sun Mother and demanded Her to wake the plants, animals, and everything on Earth. Later on the Sun Mother gave birth to two children, the Morning Star and the moon. Those two then gave birth to the earliest humanity ancestors. Both creation story believe that things are surround by nature. Every creation story have something similar and different.

How was the world created? There are many different creation stories from different religions, and they all have their own unique similarities and differences. For example a way that two creation stories are similar is that, in the Genesis creation story (Christian), it says "And the earth was without form and void; and darkness [was] upon the face of the deep.", and in the Greek creation story it says that in the beginning the world was in a state of nothingness called Chaos. Both of these beliefs are very similar, both basically saying that before the world was created there was nothing. Something that is different about these creation stories is that in the Genesis creation story, God created man out of the dust on the ground and breathed life into him, while in Greek mythology Prometheus shaped humans out of mud. Also, Prometheus created humans way after the world was created, while God created humans almost immediately afterwards.
