C-CHARTS (ACTION CRITERIA)

GET INSPIRED!

Today, we spent a great deal of time setting our classroom rules and expectations by creating action criteria charts. We do this so it is clear to you how you should behave when walking in the halls, entering the classroom, during lessons, and during independent work time. This year, you will lean the importance of the role criteria plays in your learning.

NOTICES: Return immunization forms (Gr. 6), green forms and money, and blue leadership forms.

1.) READING: Read for 30 minutes and log it on your reading calendar and your planner.

2.) PLANNERS: Have parents sign your planner.

3.) WEBSITE: Read everything on today's post. You may have a pop quiz on what I posted today in class tomorrow morning.

4.) POST A RESPONSE:

Today, you learned how to use our class website. We modelled this in class and you had a chance to practice using it.
Your job today is to follow the instructions posted below:
LEARNING INTENTION: I can follow simple instructions.

i.) What was the purpose of making C-Charts (Action Criteria Charts) as a class today?
ii.) Answer the question above in a paragraph form (introduction, body and supporting
sentences/examples, and conclusion).
iii.) Give one student some suggestions on how they can improve their paragraph. You can give
suggestions on incomplete work, spelling, grammar, paragraph structure, etc.
iv). Edit/revise your original post based on the suggestions you were given from your peer. if you
didn't receive any comments, do a self-assessment or ask a family member for suggestions.

The purpose of making C-Charts are for knowing what to do and how to do it. C-Charts help you understand what to do and people can give you feedback on how to improve it. Once you look at a C-Chart and understand you won’t even have to look at the Chart because you’ll already know what to do.
The great part about this is that if you see others not following the C-Charts rules, you can help them out by teaching them the rules a bit better so they will understand. Depending on your job, this can also help out if your a teacher like Mr. Hong. Making C-Charts hell the student understand and make themselves better when they walk into a class or walk in the hallways. Basic the whole point is the C-Chart helps us LEARN!

You know, teachers break some rules themselves... they do some terrible things like standing on chairs, tables and worst of all, CARPETS!!! *gasp (that’s so terrible! That’s why, (luckily) our class (including the teacher) created c-charts to help us learn how to lead by example.

The purpose making of c-charts in class today was to insure that we knew the rules and also know that teachers also have a role to play when it comes to rule following and making. @Mr.Hong- I think it is great that we made the c- charts and i feel like it would help us a lot in not just grade 7 but, in all of the grades and university included. To answer your question of why we made c-charts, i think we made c-charts to set expeditions for our selves and these rules/ the c-chart will help us achieve these goals of ours. It can also help us in school for example, during class if you talk to your friends when the teacher is talking will result in you not knowing what he talked about, it may not be important or it may be something you should take notes on for a test, but you were talking to your friends so you didn't hear him. This wouldn't only make a impact on you but also those around you, when you talk we make noise, so when there are people sitting beside you they will only here your chattering chat and not the teacher. Another reason i think we make it is because it would make the teacher's job much easier but we made this not mainly because of that (or is it Mr.Hong?!!!). We made these to help our learning experience and to learn more then ever and be a good student, to have good grades, etc..

We made it as a class today because it would be like teamwork and everyone will be on the same page and not be left behind. It was also great that we all got to share our ideas so that no one got left out. Another reason we did this as a class is, so that we know that we wrote everything correctly unlike independent work when we do everything ourselves we might not have gotten as many Criteria or rules.

Today we did something that I have never done in any other classes before. Today we made a action criteria’s. Action criteria’s are basically what or how you are expected to behave for teachers and students, basically all the expection burning class and on this website.

I think it was important for us to make action criteria’s so everyone know the expectations are. It was great that we did it as a class so everyone had a saying in it.

I am having a lot of fun making c-charts with the class today, because I have never done c-charts like this before in any other classroom.I think the purpose of making c-charts together as a class is to make sure we have deep impression of the rule and behave ourself better.

A criteria is a list of rules or regulations for one to follow. These C-charts take this concept and inject them into a behavioral manner, there is a criteria of things that you can follow during school. Not only does this help us learn and improve as a class and as single people, it can set examples for younger students helping them improve as well. Each class has their own rules but something like this can be used in any class of any age or study. Since we all just moved to this class i have not gotten a chance to memorize the six criteria boxes on the wall but one that i somewhat remember is assessment; it is inclined to look back on work that you have done, improve the mistakes, and then make the next piece better. We created these C-charts to use that with other types of class and work elements. The C-chart's purpose is not just to create certain rules and regulations, but to help us grow as a learning community.

(This next paragraph is a tangent but one that i do want to address, it does not have to be taken seriously.)

All this to some people is easily related to SOAR, which is correct. I do favor the C-charts over SOAR though. SOAR is an acronym, it stands for Supportive, Open-minded, Awesome, and respectful. SOAR is a great idea and i think that it has helped many students, but to people like me, it leaves a bitter taste. Yes SOAR is incredibly important but the way they show this is by constantly shoving it in your face, this goes for the teachers as well; If a class was having a serious lecture and SOAR was mentioned i feel somewhat annoyed because of how much its used, someone accidentally said something slightly hurtful and a teacher got involved, SOAR, someone was a little disrespectful, SOAR. Its so overused and I do believe that it could have been an incredible thing but it was pulled of with flaw in my opinion.

Thank you Mr. Hong for creating this C-chart and i look forward to helping develop these charts along with class.

Great job! It was like you taught me a lesson right there. I like how much you want to say about this. Even when you’ve written so much, you still read over all of it to make sure it doesn’t have that much grammar and spelling mistakes. Consequently, the writing was smooth to read and didn’t have that much mistakes. Excellent job!

People often say that teachers are also a student, and that’s true! Teachers also make mistakes, because they’re not always perfect. No one is perfect. And that’s why we have to learn from our mistakes. No matter who it is, they all make mistakes. This is why we have action criteria charts (aka “c-charts”). They remind you of what your behaviour should be, no matter if it’s the teacher or the students. They’re like a reminder for times when you forget to do something. For example, when you come back from the weekend, you might have forgotten about the expectations of your behaviour. That’s when this comes into use. Sometimes you might think the c-charts are unnecessary because you already know what your behaviour is. When you learn something, it doesn’t mean you’ll never forget it. C-charts make sure you always remember what is expected of you. In conclusion, (after I’ve said all about this) all I want to say is that c-charts are a great tool for both students and teachers! :)

I currently don’t have any comments so I’m just going to answer the questions hehe.
First, I think the c-chart is very helpful and I think we created it to help everyone settle into the new classroom and make us remeber a few things that could help us throughout the year. Like Mr. Hong said, we will always have it in our faces all the time so the rules will burry themselves into our minds because we’ll probably be looking at it quite a bit from now on. Since we came up with the rules ourselves, hopefully it’ll be quite easy. So yeah. That’s the point, to help us remeber rules and stay on task. Not just the students. The teacher too.

Q: What was the purpose of making C-Charts (Action Criteria Charts) as a class today?
A: I thought the whole process of making C-Charts was very fun because first of all, I have never done a C-Chart before and second, It was fun making rules for Mr. Hong. LOL ^-^!

I think the whole purpose of making C-Charts as a class was to collaborate with each other and establish the classroom rules and make a list of things students (and teacher) are required to do every school day. It also reminds you what the behaviour expectations are and what you SHOULD do and want you SHOULD NOT do. It can act as an reminder of how you should behave in class everyday. C-Charts are just like laws, only except when you fail to meet one of the expectations, you don't get arrested; you just get a friendly reminder from Mr. Hong to not do whatever you were doing bad. C-Charts are basically things that tell us how become better and more self-regulated students.

I think that if everyone in the class memorized the C-Charts and followed them everyday, then Div.2 will be the best class in the world, (even though it already is!)

Everyday, I hope to follow all the rules on the C-Charts and become a student that is very respectful and has good behaviour. I am confident that I will be able to do this, and when I am in high school or university and I become one of the best students, I'll remember to thank Mr. Hong for those C-Charts!!

i think that the reason we made C-charts today is because as students we must know how to act, mainly in the classroom, but also around the school. the C-charts made the standard of the classroom a lot clearer.

another reason i think we made the C- charts was because there are a lot of things that are criteria based. for example, swimming. swimming competitively has some rule. a basic one is that in order to go to provincials or other big meets you must meet a time standard. i think it is important that we learn how to make, learn, and follow criteria.

Today, we learnt c-chart.I think c-chart is a very helpful tools that remind us what should we do in the classroom. The purpose of c-chart is a list of rule that student and teacher have to follow.The teacher should be a good example, and c-chart is also let the student work together as a team.

We used C-Charts as an inspiration for who we are: 7th Graders. We are leaders, creators, brave, respectful, friendly, world changers, important and always ready to help other people. With a teacher like Mr. Hong, nobody can left out. You should always support and encourage the younger graders. So, if we show the our talents to the world, anyone can support and change the world.

Today, we made the Criteria Charts for a few different reasons. Sometimes, people don't know what to do during the lesson or walking in the halls but the C Charts will tell us what is the right thing to do during these times. Also, the C Charts not only encourage the students to remember what to do, they also tell the teachers what to do. It is important to follow the criteria in these charts because they tell us how to act during school. The C Charts were also important because we were the people who made them. If we can't follow our own rules, how are we supposed to learn to do things the right way. Finally, that is my conclusion of why the C Charts are important.

The purpose of making c-charts was so that we(both students AND teachers) can remember what we should be doing everyday in our school, either when we are waiting for the doors to open to start the day in our classroom, or in class, out on the hallway or at the end of the day.

We made c-charts today and we we did not make it for fun or to rip or burn etc.We made them for a reason.

Sometimes, people are not that smart and thinks,"Maybe I should RUN in the hall because I can get to music class quicker.", but with the c-charts, you will know to NOT RUN in the hall because you could crash into someone, get hurt and get in TROUBLE.( That was just a example because I don't think that everyone is that not smart and smash into people all day long.)

Another reason is that maybe you are smarter BUT, you have a bad memory, so you think,"I'm supposed to...not walk in the hall?Not jump in the hall?Do not roll in the hall?", but with the C-CHART, if you forget, you can read it again and remember it.( That was just a example because I don't think that everyone has that bad memory and forget things all day long.)

My last reason is that you are Albert Einstein and the best memory in the universe,BUT, your best friend has a bad memory AND is not that smart.Then, you can make a c-chart and help your friend.(remember to be supportive! ^-^)

@ Raymond - I disagree. I know you are capable of much more. A good tip is to read the responses of others to see what you can do to make yours better. You can learn a lot from others. For example, you could definitely fix your capitals. You could also give specific examples from what we did in class today within your paragraph. Do your best! Reach for the stars!

In class today we made c-charts,first everyone thought of ideas of what to put on the c-charts then we type it out and put it on the walls.
The first reason I think this idea was awesome is if you forget the rules, then you can read it again to remind yourself what to do. My second reason is if you don't know the rules then you can see what they are. And the last reason is,it is really helpful for the whole school and even teachers.

I think the purpose of making an C-Charts is basically what everyone wants to behave at school, for setting a good example to the younger grades as a grade6/7 students. To make a C-Charts. First, we’ve wrote ourselves idea in a line paper. Afterwards we needs to communicate together as a class, to help summarize our ideas, and also help us have a better understanding to the questions.

It help us setting goals of how a student, a grade 6/7 should behave at school. As you all know grade 6/7 is the oldest grades in an elementary school, so that we should be more careful of how we behave in class and around school. A C-Charts, it’s really straightforward! A list of goals that really helps us, make it easier of how we should behave. I’ve never done this before, but I really think that it’s a great way to help us, get a better understanding of how we should behave, and also to be “SOAR!”
