Today, students participated in ZUMBA for the second time. It was exciting to see them moving and grooving to the music. Later, students learned more about calculating percentages. They learned real-world-practical examples of when they would need to calculate percentages. Although these problems are tedious and time-consuming, the students were understanding the concepts and trudging through the work! ;-) Keep working hard! Our VLN students started learning how to code with the micro-bits!

IMPORTANT: PINK SHIRT DAY TOMORROW! WEAR AS MUCH PINK AS POSSIBLE!

1.) MATH: Complete all of worksheet #1 from yesterday. We will correct it in class tomorrow. Complete Questions #1-2 on worksheet #2.

2.) SOCIAL STUDIES: You will have one last period tomorrow to complete your practice mapping/scale/proportion map of China.

3.) LA: Word work test first thing tomorrow morning.

3.) POST A RESPONSE:

In a standard paragraph, based on what you have learned over the last two days, explain the steps involved in calculating the % of something. Use any example or the one provided below:
How would one go about calculating a 35% discount on a jacket that costs $145.
You may use any strategy. It does not necessarily have to be the formula/calculation you learned in class.
Don't forget your intro, transition words for each of your steps, and your conclusion.

THIS IS TAKING FOREVER! Well I am here to explain how to calculate the percentage of something. Yes, I don’t know a solution on how to do this method any faster. YOU GOT CLICK BAITED HAHA!

STEP 1: turn the % of the discount into a decimal
Eg. 35%=0.35 35+65=100/0.35+0.65=1.00 so you can multiply 145.00 by 0.65 rather than 0.35 so that you don’t have to subtract the product you got from 0.35 by 145.00

STEP 2: multiply the decimal by the number you are working with
Eg. 145.00x0.65=94.25
So you save $50.75 from that 35% discount. To buy a jacket with a 35% discount which costs $145 you pay $94.25

Sometimes you have to calculate the tax as well so what you would do is you multiply the discounted price by whatever decimal form the tax is in and you got the price of the tax. Then you add the tax price and the discounted price and you’ve got the full price of the item.

Another time you might have to calculate the commission, you do the exact same except you exclude the tax price of the item. So you don’t include the tax price.

In conclusion this is a time consuming method but it is effective. You could use this throughout the rest of your life.

The usual situation is when you have to calculate a 35% discount off a jacket which was already cost $145. The thing you have to do is first transfer 35% to a fraction or decimals. Secondly, you times the fraction or decimals with the original price, then you will have to pay for that amount. And the formula will be: 35%=0.35 or 35/100x145=$50.75. Finally, your payment (without taxes) will be $50.75.

However, when you are buying things, there will always have taxes. If the tax of the jacket is 2%, then you will have to pay more than $50.75 a little bit, 2% of $50.75. Then the formula will be: 50.75x0.02 or 2/100=1.015. Round it up, will be $1.02. Secondly, you may add them up, 1.02+50.75=$51.77. And finally, you will have to pay $51.77.

After you paid the money, the seller, who sold the stuff to you, will have a commission. Commissions are normally just around 10%, of the payment that you paid. Then, we can figure it out how much is the commission. Firstly, you transfer it first. 10% to 0.1 or 10/100. Secondly, you just time it with the price that you paid. The formula will be: 0.1x51.77=$5.177. Round it up, and you will get $5.18. Then, the seller will get $5.18 from the payment (commission).

Math is fun which you can transfer it to the real-life situation. It will actually help you a lot when you are doing numeric situations. When you are shopping, you can quickly figure out the payment and will not let the seller trick or fool you.

These are all the numbers we will be starting with, doing this in real life will take around five minutes, but that is dependent on your speed.

So our tax will add another $7.91 to our violent pokers.

There is yet another thing that we must calculate, which is interest rate. Because of how interest rate works (look at yesterday's PAR for more detail) let's pretend that we are paying our bills more than 30 days after we had purchased our realistic honedges. This means we must pay an additional 19.99% to our go to jail cards. Once again we must convert the percentage into a decimal to calculate it, which gives us 0.1999. Plugging in the numbers, we have an equation of 65.94 x 0.1999, which equals 13.181406, which we will round to $13.18. So the interest rate will add another $13.18 to our un-alive sticks.

The final equation will have us plugging in the amount of tax and interest rate into an addition format. Using all the numbers we spent calculating, we have an equation of 65.94 + 13.18 + 7.91 which gives us the final price of $87.03. After that whole ordeal, you're free to go home with your human pizza cutter only to realize you have just been arrested. Feel good about yourself.

To today, we learned about percent things again, but it’s not the same percentage as yesterday, it’s about discount,tax and commissions. We can all use it when we want to buy something.

First of all, what is discount,tax and commissions? Discount is when you pay less money to the shop or to others, it usually happens at a holiday. Taxes are when you buy stuff and then you pay another extra money for the goverment to help other people. Commissions are for the people who sells things to you, and they get 3/1 of your money.(most of the people don’t get commissions because their company pay for them in a year)

Now we know all of these words, let’s started to do some selling stuff. Pretend there’s a jackets that cost 145 dollars, and there’s 35% off, how many do we have to pay for the company after the discount? In my opinion, I think we should always translate the discount to a decimal first, how do we do that? First, 35% translate to the decimal is 0.35 because 35% has two digits and we use 145 times 0.35=50.75, and we use 145 - by 50.75=94.25.(with out taxes)

Now, how can we add taxes in it? Just pretend if a jacket tacxes is 3%, then we have to transfer 3% to a decimal, then it is 0.03, we use 0.03 times 94.25=2.8275, and we add 2.8275 in to 94.25=97.125, so that’s the final answer.

Then you should ask, what aboout commissions? We could just use 94.25 times 12%(pretent it is 12%) , the commissions does not included taxes!

Last time, we learned how to calculate the percentage of a product's price. In order to find a product's discounted price we had to multiply the original price with the discount rate. With the example below, we will be able to solve and understand the method.

How would one go about calculating a 35% discount on a jacket that costs $145? The method can easily be applied by taking the $145 and multiplying it with the decimal form of 35% which is 0.35 to give the answer $50.75. Once we have the discount price, we can find out the final sales price by subtracting $50.75 from $145 to get $94.25. Therefore the final sales price of the jacket is $94.25.
If the jacket's tax was perhaps 4%, then you will have to turn 4% into a decimal which is 0.04 and multiply it with the final sales price which is 94.25 to get 3.77. Finally, add the tax price $3.77 with $94.25 to get $98.02.

For commissions, if we have 13% of the payment we were paying, we can find out the commissions rate by multiplying its decimal form with the final sales price. So, $98.02 multiplied by 0.13 would be $12.7426. If we round that off, it would be $12.74 and that's the final commission price.

After learning this, we would surely be able to apply this in situations like shopping or eating in restaurants. Math i not a spectator sport, each thing can be applied in certain situations like this one.

In the past few days, Mr. Hong's class has learned a lot. They lerned how to calculate percentages. One thing we learned was that to find the percentage, you will have to times the number by the percentage ÷ 100. And a easier way than to find the percenatage of the tax and then add it to the number, you can mmultiply the number to the tax + 1. It will be much easier. To solve the question, "How would one go about calculating a 35% discount on a jacket that costs $145?", you would have to first subtract 35 by 100, which is 65, and then times 0.65 by 145.

In the past few days, our class has learned a lot. We learned how to calculate percentages. One thing we learned was that to find the percentage, you will have to times the number by the percentage ÷ 100. And a easier way than to find the percentage of the tax and then add it to the number, you can multiply the number to the tax + 1. It will be much easier. To solve the question, "How would one go about calculating a 35% discount on a jacket that costs $145?", you would have to first subtract 35 by 100, which is 65, and then times 0.65 by 145.

Over the last two days, I have learned how to calculate percentages! Today we mainly focused on discount, tax, and commission. Before today's lesson, I didn't understand much of these terms but after the lesson i fully understood. So how do you calculate percentages? Let's say you want to buy a jacket that is $145. There is a 35% discount. How do you calculate the price after the discount?
Firstly you want to turn the percentage into a decimal. For this question, you would do 35%=0.35. This is because 0.35 is equivalent to 35/100 and 35% is also 35/100.
After you have converted the percentage, you will time the price by the decimal. So 145 x 0.35. When I do this step i add an extra .00 after the price since it makes the question easier to solve by aligning the decimals. My work will look like this….

When you get your product ( 50.75 ) you want to subtract that from your original price ( 145 ). In the end, you come to a conclusion of a price of $94.25.

In conclusion, this is what I learned today. There are many other strategies that you could use to solve these types of questions, but I prefer to use this one.

During math today, we had continued yesterday’s lesson on calculating the percentage. This really helped me to get a better understanding of how to calculate percentage in different situations.

To solve a question like 35% discount on a $135 jacket. I will first calculate by turning this 35% into decimal places which are 0.35. Ahah, but I always feel like it takes too much time to calculate it this way and the most importantly is that you could get really messed up easily. So I’m going to use another amazing method that I just learned in class today, “ finding the left out numbers from a hundred.” Which might sound a bit strange to you, yet it’s actually straightforward, you just have to minus discount (35 from a whole 100) That leads us to a 0.65. From this bases, I would like to multiply the original cost of the jacket ($135) with 0.65 including taxes! Guess what, an amazing discovery was that I got the same answer as I do use the original way. However, I’ve only used one step instead of two or three! This really benefits me on saving time while doing my math!

In conclusion, what I learned today had surprised me since I didn’t know there are so many tricks on calculating the percentage for us save our time and use it in a more efficient way.

Today, we learned about percentages in math today. We learned about discounts, tax, and commissions.

First of all, what are taxes, discounts and commissions? Taxes are what the government uses to pay for things. For example, for the military, the police, to provide services like education and health care, and to build things like roads and bridges. Discounts are deductions from the usual cost of something. Commissions are for the person who sells things to you and they get like ⅓ of the money you pay to buy something.

How would one go about calculating a 35% discount on a jacket that costs $145?
First, you have to change 35% into a decimal, which is 0.35. Then, you have to subtract it with 1, which makes 0.65. Next, you have to multiply it with the original price which is $145.
The equation is 145x0.65= 94.25

If the tax for the jacket was 3%, first you need to express it as a decimal, which is 0.03. Second, you need to multiply the price which is 94.25 to 0.03 which is 2.8275. Then, you need to add the amount of tax ( 2.8275 ) to the item's price ( 94.25 ). Which equals 97.08. Your final payment will be $97.08.

If the commission was 12% you can just multiply 97.25 by 12% because the commission doesn’t include tax. The equation is 97.08 x 0.12=11.65

Today in math, we learned more about tax, as well as discounts and commission. How would you calculate the price after the discount?

To begin with, tax is when you have to pay an extra amount of money for the government for health care and other community services. A discount is when you have to pay LESS, so if you buy a table that costs $75, and it says there's a 30% discount, then it means you wouldn't have to pay the 30% of $75. Commission is when a salesperson sells something like a car, they could get, maybe 15% of the money that car sells for. Not everything is commission-based though.

Now, if you were to buy a jacket that costs $145 with 35% discount on it, to find out how much the current price for the jacket is, you'd have to first change the percentage into a decimal, so 35% would equal to 0.35. You'd then multiply your original price ($145) by 0.35 and....you get your answer, which is $50.75. That's not all, though, because you still have to subtract $50.75 from $145 to find out what the price for the jacket after the discount is. Your answer should be $94.25.

First, let me explain the difference between tax and commissions. Tax is how much the government earns for each purchase you make. Tax is not intended for stealing your money; it is simply a way for the federal and provincial governments to upgrade their facilities (such as fire stations, police stations, and hospitals). Tax on consumable products is normally 5%, while it is 12% on all other commercial products available for use.

Commissions are how much the salesperson earns per purchase made. Commissions do not include tax, as it is not related to the government. Many companies use hourly wages, which oversimplified means you are paid a certain amount of money every hour you work. Commissions are usually for Realtors and are approximately betwixt 3 and 7 percent of the final price depending on what region and company.

To find the price of anything you wish to buy after a discount (if any), simply subtract the percentage discount form 100, and put the difference over 100. Then, multiply your result by the price. Once again, we see percentages. A very useful thing in life. But what is the way for calculating taxes, discounts and commission? There are many different ways to calculate it but one way is shown right down below...

My method is to calculate the discount first, and then subtract that number from the cost. This creates the sales price. Only once I'm done that will I calculate the tax and add it to create the final price. "Why don't you do the tax first?" Well, if you do the tax first, it doesn't actually correspond to the price because the tax is supposed to be a portion of the final price.

Let's say that you want to buy a bunch of binders (5) for $9.99 each and you have a coupon for 10% off the total. You also have to pay 5% tax in order to actually buy those binders. What would the cost be? Time to use math!

First of all, I will calculate how much money five binders actually are. Since $9.99 multiplied by 5 is $49.95, we can now move on to the next step.

Secondly, we must calculate how much of a discount we get before paying with tax. 10% is equal to 0.10, so we can multiply $49.95 by 0.10 to get $5.

Once we have gotten the total amount for a discount, that would be the perfect time to calculate how much money you must pay before the tax. So I take $49.95 and subtract the $5 from it, getting $44.95.

Fourth, I will calculate the tax. Since the amount for tax is 5%, that also equals to 0.05. I would then multiply $44.95 and $0.05 together to find the tax.

Lastly, because I have that number ($2.25), I will add it to $44.95 in order to receive the final cost. After all of the math and calculations, I have reached the final cost of $47.20 for five binders.

In conclusion, percentages are extremely important for calculating costs. Although they might seem boring, they are actually one of the everyday things we use in real life.

For the past 2 days, division 2 was learning about how to calculate percentage into a decimal number. And for those days we have been working on 2 different worksheets, both relate to calculating the percentage by turning it into a decimal.

For an example question, we have bought a $145 jacket, and the company that was selling the jacket laid a 35% off tag on the jacket, so the first step to calculating this is 145 x 0.35, then in you mind you know that 100-35=65 right, well now turn 65 into a decimal, that is 0.65 and now multiply 145 x 0.65 = $94.25

And let's say there is a tax of 7% and now just use you converting skills and tell me that 7% converted into a decimal equals 0.07. And now use 145 and multiply that by 0.07 and that is the price with the tax and the commission for the employee is basically $94.25 multiple by whatever percentage it is.

We have been starting the taxes unit. It’s extremely exciting! 35% 145

One example that I know is that you can change % into a decimal. 35% would turn into 0.35. Once you that it’s way easier to find the answer for the discount
145.00 x 0.35 = 50.75. That’s how much the jacket would cost with the discount! That’s a very big discount! This is of course without tax. If there was tax of about 10%, we would have to calculate that too.

10% is equivalent to 0.10. 0.10 x 50.75 = 5.075. 50.75 + 5.075 = 55.82. If the tax was more, then it would show more.

I learned that a 15% discount is percentage is also a decimal: 0.15.

Imagine you want a PC, but it's $565. You multiply the 0.15 discount and the price to get get the answer: $84.75 discount, $457.25 sale price.
Decimals are needed a lot if you are buying things. Like PCs, Nintendo Switches, etc.
