Black History Month

Today, we started the day with career education. We brainstormed different careers and then organized them into different clusters. We reviewed learning intentions and started discussing our upcoming assignment. Students will research a specific career they are interested in and will find out everything they can about it. We will co-create the success criteria this week. Later, we reviewed persuasive essay structure in preparation for students to start on their new topics. We continued working through the decimal unit and the students ended the day with Social Studies/Inquiry with Ms. Altman.

Do you know how to do long division? If you don't don't worry. I'll teach you how to do it! You will never forget how to do long division if you use the "Family" method. Dad is for "divide," Mom is for "multiply," Sister is for "subtract," Brother is for "bring down," and the dog, Rover, is for repeat or get the remainder. Firstly, draw a line like you always do. Secondly, write the numbers in it. Thirdly, do the first step of the "Family" method, "Dad divides". Divide the divisor with the dividend and put the answer on top of the dividend. Then, do the next step of the "Family" method, "Mom Multiplies". Multiply the divisor with the quotient, and put the answer under the dividend. Do you know how to do long division? If you do, there is an easier way, and if you don't, then you're going to find out. There is a very memorable way to do so, using members of the family. (Dad, Mom, Sister, Brother, Rover It should be noted that, when you do long division, there are five different steps. As well as that, you need to properly line up your digits when you write them as to not get confused or mixed up. Differing from multiplication, long division is the exact opposite, it makes things smaller. So, to get started. Firstly, you draw out the division statement, as you would normally. Then, remembering the family members, the Dad goes first. The D in dad stands for division, so you would divide the first digit in the dividend by the divisor, and don't forget to line it up. Secondly, the M in Mom. You multiply the divisor by the the number you just divided. You then put that underneath the first number in the dividend. And then, for then S in sister, you subtract. Once you find the difference, you use the B in brother, and bring down the second digit of the dividend next to the difference. Finally, as the R in Rover, you repeat the steps over and over until the until you find the quotient. You must note that, when you run out of numbers to bring down, the difference is the remainder, unless you want to find the decimal form, which in that case you would add a bunch of 0s next to the dividend, and repeat until you get the quotient. If you always had trouble remembering long division, hopefully, with this acronym, (MDSBR), you are able to remember it!

The steps of division can be hard to remember but if you remember it this way it will help you alot, if you remember the family. The dad divides, the mom multiplies, the sister subtracts, the brother brings down the neighbouring number, and lastly the dog (Rover) repeats or finds the remainder.

To start, you will have to divide the dividend by the divisor, next multiply the divisor by the quotient you just put and place the answer beneath the dividend. Secondly, write a line under the answer you just placed and a subtraction mark on the left of it and subtract it. Long division is not as long as it looks. There are only 5 simple steps. To make it easier to remember think of it as a family. First of all there is the dad for division. Secondly, there is magical mom for multiplication. Next, sister Selena that subtracts. After that there is the brother that brings down. Finally, Rover comes along and adds the remainder or repeats. Doing long division could be challenging to do unless you know some good techniques. One technique that I just learned is the family technique. There are five members of the family which is dad, mom, sister, brother, and rover. Each one of them stands for something. Dad is division, mom is multiply, sister is subtract, brother is bring down, and rover is repeat or remainder. If you have to divide 40 with 5, the first thing that you want to do is divide ( dad ) the 5 with the 4 and the 0 since 5 cant go into 4. 5 goes to 40 8 times so the second step is to multiply ( mom ) the 5 with the 8. 5x8=40 and the third step is to subtract ( sister ) 40 with 40. Once you get the answer, see if you could bring down a number ( brother ). If not, then skip this. If you could, bring the number down next to your latest answer. For the last step, you have to see if there is a remainder or see if you could keep on dividing ( Rover ). After that, you will get you answer and hopefully it's correct. In conclusion, long division gets easier after you learn how to do it and some of the short cuts.

These are all the correct steps in long division and shown in a fun way! To do it, you grab the first digit in the quotient, see if it is bigger than the divisor, and if so, you can write how many of the divisor can fit in that digit. After doing the first step, you can multiply the first digit of the quotient with the dividend which leads you to subtract the dividend digits with the number you have just calculated. After finding the answer to that part, you can bring down the neighboring digit then repeat it until you cant anymore which leads to a remainder or a clean answer. Isn't math interesting?

Well we would be more prone to fail if Mr. Hong was not to show us the slide show that he did. Here are them steps to D.M.S.B.R, that stands for Dad, Mom, Sister, Brother, and Range Rover! Wait! Have you ever used a method called " the family" during solving your ordinary long division question? Well, it starts off by the first family member the "Dad". The dad is responsible for dividing the numbers in the equation. Next, is the mom, the mom is supposed to see how many numbers that will able to go into the amount of the number you are trying to divide into. The third family member would them sister. The sister is going to help us subtract the number that we think goes into the number. Then the fourth, the brother. The brother would be charge of pulling the number next in line so you can divide it. Last but not least The dog (Rover). Rover is responsible for if there is any left over numbers (remainders). Overall, I think this method really helps me to remember the order to solve a long division question. Will you ever use this method?

Many people have trouble learning how to do long division. Knowing how to do long division is a crucial skill in our everyday lives. Today in class, we learned a method to remember how to do long division and did exercises for practice. The method we learned is called the Family method. The family method uses the first letters of the names of the family members — dad, mom, sister, brother, and Rover — to represent the steps of doing long division. The 'D' in "Dad" represents dividing the first number in the dividend by the divisor. Next up is "Mom". The 'M' in "Mom" stands for multiply. In this step, we take the divisor and multiply it by the first number in the quotient. After comes sister for subtract. We subtract the first number in the dividend by the number we wrote under it. Finally, we get to brother. Brother stands for bringing down. We take the number to the right of the first number in the dividend and bring it next to the number we got from the sister step. Rover simply stands for repeat or remainder. If there were no more numbers after the first number of the dividend, we would write down the number from the sister step as the remainder. However, if there is more numbers in the dividend, we would repeat the process until there isn't any more. Long division may seem hard at first, but once you remember the process and do enough practice, it will become a subconscious task that doesn't require thinking much!

Did you know? If you memorize the five members of a "family", then you have long division solved? Well it's as simple as Dad, Mom, Sister, Brother and Rover (dog).Let's say you have this question. 6,431/3. How do you find the answer? First, you start with Dad. Dad is divide. 6/3 is 2. Next is Mom, or multiply. Two times three is 6. Now on to Sister, also known as subtract. Six take away six equals zero. Now we have Brother. Brother stands for bring down. We now bring down the next number to the right. Then Rover (dog) tells us to repeat or the leftover number is a remainder. So in the end, our answer is 2143 R2, or 2143.66666667. If you are having trouble with long division questions your teacher assigns, remember this. Dad, Mom, Sister, Brother and Rover. It helps me, so hopefully it will help you too.

Long division may have been very for you, but what if i told you there is a easier way to do it? Introducing nerf sneakactta- i mean the familt division step thing-y. Basically there are 5 steps, the dad the mom the sister the brother and rover, if you complete these five steps you come up with a answer, the dad is just simply dividing the mom is multiply the sister is subtract the brother is bring downm and Rover is remainder or repeat. This is not a simpler way to do it, its just the way you're supposed to do it at school obviously you cna have other ways but this is the way you do.

Have you ever done long division? I remember doing this when I was in grade 4, seemed complicated but it's not. First you need to, divide, secondly you need to multiply, then subtract, after subtracting you need to bring it down, lastly, you need to repeat or remainder. It feels like it'll take forever to memorize, but there's actually a very easy strategy. You can remember dividing with dad, multiplying with mom, subtracting with sister, bringing it down with brother and repeat or remainder by Rover (dogs name). For example, lets say we have the numbers 93 and 3. If I were to divide this, i would first divide 9 and 3, giving us 3. I would multiply 3 by 3 giving us 9. Then subtracting 9 with 9 handing us the number zero. Since 0 can not go into 3, we bring down the 3 , making it 03. Now we repeat. We divide 3 with 3 giving us 1, so we multiply 1 with 3, giving us 3. Then subtracting it gives us 0. Now since we are done with the dividing we head to the remainder. Finally, we are done, the answer is 33 with zero remainder.

This was kind of funny. This was a example i was doing but once i finished it, i realized i had messed up hard time

To illustrate, lets say that I have the numbers 40 and 5 and I need to divide them. First we divide 5 and 4, which is 1 because 4 can only go into 5 1 time. Multiplying that gives us 4. Then subtract it, so 4-5. That gives you the number 1. 5 can not go into 1 so you bring down the 0 from the 40 making it 10. Then we repeat the step, we divide 10 by 5 which gives us 2. We multiply 2 by 5 giving us 10, then we subtract 10 and 10 resulting us with the end result, 8 with a zero remainder.

To do long division you need your family method. Take your dad and divide and put it on top of the digit. Then grab mom's magical multiply and put it under the original. After that grab you sister and subtract and put it under so the brother bring it downward the next one like the games. so Rober the dog repeats the time. That is how to do long division

So like the order of operations we have a order for long division. Where we have BEDMAS, we have the long division family. In the Long Division family we have the dad, the mum, the sister, the brother and the best member of the family Rover the dog. The Dad means divide, DD. The Mum for multiply, MM. The sister to subtract, SS. The brother to bring down, BB and lastly Rover to repeat or remainder. With the Long Division order in mind now. I bet you will never forget how to do Long Division ever again.

Did you know that even long division has its own family too? There is the dad, who divides, the mom, who multiplies, and the sister who subtracts, and the brother who brings down the numbers. Lastly there is the dog Rover, who either repeats or has a remainder. When you do division you can use this family to help you solve questions! I hope long division will be easier for you with this long division family.

Many student in school struggle in with Long division, and that’s why I will be explaining a how to do it using the ‘FAMILY’ strategy. First, dad divides. Take the number your dividing it into and the first number of the dividend and divide them. Secondly mom multiply, multiply the number your dividing into and multiply it to see how many times it fits into the first number dividend. Thirdly sister subtract, now take the number dad put down and the first multiple and let sister subtract. Now brother brings down, now that you have the subtracted number bring the next dividend in line down to the answer of your sister. Lastly rover repeats or remainder, if the number you have now is smaller than than the number your dividing it into then you can do remainder. If not repeat! I hope this will help you in your math

Do you know how to do long division? Today we learned how to do it with the 5 family members; Dad, Mom, Sister, Brother, and Rover. First, you take the left most number and Dad divides it by the divisor, then Mom multiplies that number with the divisor. After that Sister subtracts those numbers and you get Brother to bring down the next number and then get Rover to repeat the whole process again.
