Happy Monday everyone! It was a beautiful today! It was a nice change from the rain we received last week. Today, students dove deeper into order of operations and writing engaging hooks for their paragraphs. We will learn more about body paragraphs later this week. We are also aiming to complete our collages and Plant I.D. projects by the end of the week. Students will also learn more about reading strategies to deepen their comprehension of what they read.

IMPORTANT:

Bring all ART / COLLAGE materials to school tomorrow (pictures, cuttings, 3D object, etc).
Bring any research you completed at home for the Plant I.D. Project.

LEARNING:

Mark and correct pg 5 at home with answer key

2.) ART / COLLAGE: Continue working on your collage and bring all materials to school tomorrow.

3.) SOCIAL STUDIES / INQUIRY:

Complete 5 self and 5 world questions for your mini-inquiry. You will submit these to Ms. Altman tomorrow afternoon.

4.) POST A RESPONSE:

Today, you learned more about engaging hooks. Your PAR will require you to write a super engaging hook for your paragraph. The topic is: Fall weather! Be descriptive!
LEARNING INTENTION: I can write a paragraph with an engaging hook.
SUCCESS CRITERIA:
1.) Paragraph organization (intro, body, and conclusion)
2.) Choose a different type of hook to use that you used in class today.
3.) Make sure you have paid attention to the conventions/givens (spelling, capitals, punctuation, grammar structure, and sentence structure).
4.) After your paragraph, you should include one sentence identifying the type of hook you used.
5.) Read one person's paragraph and give them 1-3 suggestions based on criteria points above.

Crisp colourful red leaves, brisk cool air. These are the qualities of autumn. It is actually my least favourite seasons though because of all the rain. I mean, I like that it rains so I don’t have to water the lawn, but I don’t like walking home in the rain, or walking to school in the rain. 30 percent of people have autumn as there favourite season in a year. Their reasoning is that it is not too warm and not too cold, and Autumn is very colourful. Which makes up for a nice walk. But what is my take on autumn? I don’t really like autumn as it is too cold for me. In my opinion, the cold is not that appealing, and biking in the cold is a pain. Autumn is also when it starts to rain more, and who likes the rain. Autumn is usually when I want to ride in my car to school and observe nature from inside. On the plus side when you do go outside it is beautiful. When I was young we use to make lovely art from leaves and pine cones.

In the future, you could use this % instead of writing out the word.

Do not forget punctuation mark after "Who likes rain." (Add '?')

Past tense on "Use to" - "Used to".

"Young" - "Younger"

There is used to locate or show a location, Their is used to explain someone's things, They're (They are / They were) is used to talk about a group or a pair.
Next time, make sure to use the correct There, Their, They're! :D

It’s autumn! My favorite season. Because, in autumn, a cool wind blows up and makes me feel very comfortable. In autumn, you don’t have to think about swimming and eating ice cream, so why do I like autumn? Because it's beautiful, But, where is it beautiful in autumn? Let me make an example. “The leaves turned yellow, and all fall from the tree. Stepping on the yellow leaves will have a crisp sound.” I think that why it is called “fall”. But the beauty of autumn actually has to be discovered by ourselves.

1.) Have a friend read over your post to give you feedback on your grammar. Don't start your sentences with 'because'.

Grammar suggestion - Autumn is my favourite season! During the fall season, the cool wind blows and makes me feel cozy! In Autumn, you don't go swimming as often and you don't eat much ice cream! So what are some other reasons why I like Autumn? It is more beautiful than words can describe! The leaves turn yellow and fall to the ground. When you step on the leaves you hear a crisp sound! This is why they call it 'FALL'. However, you can only discover the beauty of fall on your own!

What is your favourite thing about autumn? One of my favourite things is the weather. It feels sort of crisp, cool but not too cold. It doesn't rain too much, which is great, but it's not too dry either. The leaves are also beautiful. Another thing I like about the weather is the wind. It is not too cold, but it is a nice change from the heat of summer. In conclusion, the perfect weather is one of the reasons that autumn is my favourite season.

Why do I like Autumn you say? Well let me explain why Autumn is one of my favorite Season of the year. First reason that I like Autumn better than any other seasons, is because of the weather. The weather in Autumn is just wonderful because it doesn't get to hot or cold and when the Autumn wind blows in your face, it gives you a feeling that feels fabulous. When the leaves turn colors it makes the whole Vancouver even more beautiful. But there are some cons about Autumn. When the rain starts falling down from the sky, the leaves on the ground will get mushy and it releases a weird sent if the leaves are on the ground for quite a while. Thank you for reading!!!!! "Whoosh," the sign of fall, the cool, comforting wind has came. The streets are filled with colorful leaves and animals are preparing for the cold winter. Fall is one of my favorite seasons because I can harvest the plants I am gardening and most importantly, it is the season when salmon comes up the river and I can catch them. Even though fall is one of my favorite seasons, it has some negatives too. I have to clean up the leaves fallen on my backyard, and it starts to get colder eventually, which I don't like. I am excited of the coming season!

A hook about hooks! hooks are useful to keep a viewer or reader on your book or video, but you may ask "Is there different types of hooks?" and there sure is! first off we have questions, ask questions that relate to your paragraph. Next, hooks can be shockers or facts (they need to relate to your paragraph!). those where only a few but stick until next time for more!! (thank you for reading)

Autumn really is my favourite season, red wine blowing away in the wind as rain pours down on all, the drips and drops landing in the puddles in the forest where children splash in. Giggles from children voices and yelling from the distance, chatters from students that share dumb ideas. Cars zooming to go the other classes while some sing terribly with the radio. While the leaves fill the air, thoughts of AC travel away while the cold wind slightly hits my back hand, this is where I was meant to be. -3:43 p.m.- People thin out as each goes to new pathways, the scenery makes me wonder if I could ever make art. I watch as each tree looks like it was shaped individually to look like that, no- humans could never make what mother nature has. The plants in the forest reminds me of how foolishly humans try to replicate it. Every angle, every location, everything seems like a picture. A picture nothing could capture but was posted on an account called: gamer_boiiiiiiiii or unicorn_pops1837. The temperature, the landscape, the people, I really love autumn.

When you think of "Autumn" what's the first things that comes up to your mind? Is it the pretty, colourful leaves that fall from trees? Or maybe the smell of nature when it rains? To me, Autumn feels like cold fresh air that you would take a big breath of in the morning. The leaves that are turn amber yellow, The colourful sidewalk that has
been fill up with leaves when you walk on it. The "crunch" when you step on a pile of dried up leaves. Though I don't put much interest thinking of Autumn, or maybe it isn't my favourite season, writing this paragraph, I want to experience these things once again. This is the first thing that come to my mind when I think of Autumn.

And the sun took a step back, the leaves lulled themselves to sleep and autumn was awakened. Now it is cold and the sky gets dark faster. Beaches, camping, nice bike rides and water fights are all over. It gets windy, and leaves start to fall. But remember that after fall comes Christmas so at least that is positive and exciting!

Everyone knows that the most peaceful season of all is fall. It is obvious that nothing could compare to the sound of crunching leaves under your feet. The smell of orange leaves that were recently raked is flowing through the air, and the cold air reminds you of the start of winter. Nothing could come in your way. Nothing except piles of leaves and thanksgiving food. You could picture the plates of food on your table. The roasted turkey, hot gravy, the moist stuffing, the sweet pumpkin pie, but it is the weather that makes the season fall, not the food. It may rain of course, but that is the way Vancouver is. Some people like the rain, and some people do not. From crunchy leaves to cold rain, fall is the most peaceful season of all.

The type of hook I used is a descriptive setting hook.

CRUNCH! Ah yes, the relaxing sound of crushing leaves. When you hear that, you instantly think of autumn and the beautifully coloured view of fallen leaves, when there's rows and rows of them beside a straight road. Autumn is a great balance of the temperature here in Vancouver. Unlike other seasons like Summer or Spring, in Autumn, it doesn't rain! (Excluding winter's snow) The great smell of pumpkin spice at the end of it, the warmth of your fireplace (if you have one) and the great ASMR from the leaves all make Autumn the best season.

Less storms and disasters. Imagine curling up near the fire after a long day or work, Snuggled up in a book. And the smell of Pumpkin spice and cinnamon that enters your noses. Slowly the season passed untill next year for the perfect weather.

Did you know? The season Autumn is only 30% of the year. This season is my second favourite time of the year (Spring being favourite). This season is only second favourite because it is colder and windier than Spring. I get cold easily so Spring is not too hot and not too cold. Spring and Autumn are both very colourful. Autumn has different coloured leaves, but they are only red, yellow, brown, orange and green. Spring has all of the colours. So I do like Autumn, but the weather of this season is not as nice as of Spring. For example, In the Fall when it rains the whole sky looks dreary long after it stops. The Spring's rain is dreary but it doesn't stay that way for long. And just like Autumn, the Spring is 30% of the year.

The breeze catches as your sneezes wind up inside, the leaves fall in a swaying motion, signaling Autumn was to come. Trees vary in colors, leaves falling in each direction, satisfaction is guaranteed. Coats and Jackets worn on everyone's backs, a chill as you put out your cinnamon scented candles. Cuddling your blanket as the long awaited Fall drops its leaves and coos, chills in your ears as goosebumps arise from the pleasure of the warm shelter. Although, the rain still pours, tiny amounts. Little droplets fall, a satisfying sound to the ear, games to play with families on a day like this, the sound of chatter. An enjoyable evening, for everyone.

When i think autumn i think birthdays because some of my closest friends birthdays are in October and October is a autumn month of some of my closest friends birthdays Simone's is the 18 Samanthas is the 6th, and my best friend from surrey is on the 19. Than luiza's in may. i love the fall because of the crispy leaves you can step on and than the cold breeze against your skin than the weather is perfect for wearing hoodies and shorts together and its the season of Halloween and thanksgiving. well those are my views on the fall/autumn.

Did you know? Trees change colour in Autumn because they stop making a chemical called chlorophyll when it becomes colder. That is why trees change from green to that beautiful red, onange, or yellow. I like the magnificent colours of the trees and the cool wind blowing but threre are still things I don't like. Rain is the thing I don't like. It makes us wet and we can't play outside. I like Summer the best than Autumn. Summer is warm and it is really sunny. Autumn is cool but lots of rain. After all, I think Autumn has lots of rain but Autumn is very beautiful.

Did you know Autumn is caused by the earth’s tilt? Most people know that Autumn is one of the most peaceful seasons, the leaves turn from green to orange and yellow, and it’s not too warm but not too cold, and the air smells like warm pumpkin. Autumn is my second favourite season because it’s warm but not too warm and halloween is coming up.

Fall

Fall? No silly not fall fall, the weather fall, also known as Autumn is one of the fourth seasons outside the tropics. It starts on Tuesday, September 22 and ends on Monday, December 21. It is the transition between Summer and Winter. In fall the trees leaves change colour, temperatures get cooler, daylight grows shorter and plants stop making there food. Now that’s what happens when fall starts, but what about what comes along during fall? That’s a good question! Mostly things like pumpkins, apple, corn and most of all, don’t forget Halloween! The reasons of why I like Fall is because of the cold weather, I like cold weathers just not rainy ones because in hot weathers, there’s nothing you can do really to make yourself cold. In cold weathers, all you have too the is wear more things. I also like Fall because it’s beautiful, well I guess all the seasons are beautiful but yeah. Leaves are also nice, once they “FALL” off the trees I like cleaning them I don’t know why but I just do. Though Fall is really nice, it’s not my favourite...but is it yours?

Autumn is possibly my favorite season, the gentle breeze and colorful leaves are some signs of autumn. I think autumn is so great because of its qualities, most mosquitos have already died in autumn, and autumn is also when you can cool off from summer. Autumn is also when many fresh fruits and vegetables are ripe and ready to be harvested. The sound of stepping on dry leaves is very fun as well, and best of all, you know that some holidays are coming soon! Autumn also has its weak points, rain, allergies, and shorter days pop up as autumn arrives. However, there are many worse things that can happen in different seasons which makes autumn a very good season.

Being taken away from your family isn’t very pleasant, and “Orange Shirt Day” is celebrated to honor and respect all the Indigenous children that were stripped of their identity and childhood. You may ask how these children were stripped of their identity and childhood, and the answer is residential schools. These schools take Indigenous children from their homes and forces them to forget about their own culture and learn French or English. The backstory of “Orange Shirt Day” is when a little girl named Phyllis Webstad wore her new orange shirt to St. Joseph’s Mission residential school. The so-called staff there took her clothes including her brand-new orange shirt. Orange then always reminded Phyllis about the traumatic experience at the residential school. “Orange Shirt Day” was created in 2013 to remember not only Phyllis, but all the Indigenous children who had to go to residential schools.
