Visualizations improve comprehension!

Today, division 1 and 2 continued improving their reading abilities with a Novel Approach lesson on reading. Students learned how to be strategic about the strategies they use to help them understand what they are reading. They set their purposes, used their background knowledge to make connections, monitored their comprehension, and made visualizations! "We don't use our eyes when we visualize!" In the afternoon, we continued our inquiry into early humans and human rights! It was an amazing day of learning! #TheLearningNeverStops

1.) READING: 20-30 minutes

2.) MATH: Complete any unfinished work from yesterday. We will mark it in class tomorrow.

3.) POST A RESPONSE:

Today, you learned about traits of good writing. Your lesson was on 'Generating Ideas'.
Many of us often get stuck when we can't think of ideas for our writing. Today's lesson helped all of us generate more ideas.
Learning intention: I can use a variety of strategies to generate ideas for my writing.
Use one of the ideas you learned in class today and generate ideas on a piece of paper (web, mind map, list, pictures, drawings, diagrams, outline, etc) and generate ideas on the topic below. BRING THIS PAPER TO SCHOOL TOMORROW. We will upload it to FreshGrade tomorrow.
TOPIC: How can you improve your performance in school?
After you do this on paper, type out the following here:

SUCCESS CRITERIA:
1.) List out 3 ideas you came up with that can help you improve your performance at school. Think
about the different ways you learn at school and how you can become a better learner.
EXAMPLE:
I came up with 3 ideas. These ideas included using my planner, making a schedule at home to
monitor my comprehension.
2.) Choose one of the 3 ideas you listed and give 3 supporting details/examples about this single
idea.
EXAMPLE:
I can monitor my comprehension more by asking Mr. Hong questions when there are concepts
that I don't understand. (you must include 3 details)
3.) Check for the givens (spelling, grammar, sentence structure, capitals, punctuation, etc)

I can do three things that can help me improve. First of all, I can contribute more to lessons, be more organized, and also ask more questions!

One thing I can do more is contribute more to the lesson. Instead of hiding in the background, I can raise my hand more and share my ideas to everybody. Otherwise I will be labeled as quiet and shy and I'm not really like that. It will also help me think on the spot. :D Next, I can stop reading during class and pay attention more. Maybe then I'll actually know what the teacher is talking about. If I need to, I could self-regulate by focusing on what I actually need to do again and stop distracting myself. Lastly, I can think of more ideas and connections so I have more to say. Usually, I just wait and see what others say but maybe I should change that.

People improve all the time. Some ways I improve my performance at school are make a schedule, being organized, and ask questions. Making a schedule helps me be more organized. It helps me be focused and have track of time. Also it show me reminders.

Today I was not present so I don't quite get the criteria but I’ll try my best to do the par! Although I wasn't here for the lesson I still have strategies that I use to improve my achievements at school.
One of my main strategies is self-regulation. This helps me stay on task and make sure I use my time wisely. I can identify when I'm not self-regulated when the noise level is high and I am contributing to that noise. That's when I stop and continue doing the task at hand. I can self-regulate by moving to a calm environment if needed.
Another strategy I use is monitoring my comprehension. I usually don't ask many questions during class but this year Mr.Hong has made me comfortable asking questions. Even though I am not fully there I am slowly achieving my goal of asking a lot of questions when needed! I can monitor my comprehension when I'm stuck and I can't focus. Sometimes I daze off and that's when I zone out entirely. So when that happens I re-enter my body and continue working.
The last method I use is writing out how I feel in a notebook at the end of the day. When I am at school sometimes I get caught up with my thoughts and secrets. So what I do is write it out so I can get it out there without anyone knowing. This helps me as a student because at the end of the day I can just release all the thoughts and secrets I've been keeping in and it's like a cleanse. It's like a heavyweight is lifted off my shoulder and I can work to my fullest the next day. Again I'm not quite sure about the criteria so this might not be entirely right. :)

First of all, I will achieve this by not distracting others/myself and regulating my environment so that I am not beside someone that I will talk to, which ensures that I don't get off task.
Also, I will keep calm and stay in the green zone so everyone has good learning conditions. A calm learning environment means people can learn more efficiently.
Lastly, I can focus and not get distracted by others so I can complete the task/tasks without getting sidetracked. If I finish a task, I will read or draw quietly, or work on other assigments. These are three ways how I will self-regulate.

Three things that can help me improve my performance at school is asking questions, monitoring comprehension and being more organized.

One thing that can help me improve is asking questions because when I don’t understand something, I can ask Mr. Hong or somebody else so I can deepen my understanding on something.
Also, I can get more interested into the topic if I know more about it and one question leads to another, and soon (I don’t know maybe?) I will have accumulated a lot of knowledge.

1) I can pay more attention in class. There are three ways to do it: First of all, I will do this by not talking or make any eye contact with my friends. Also,I can talk participate and use my brain to think or visualize what did the teacher just said. Last but not least, I can prepare before class. It could helps you understand more about the things that the teacher said and if you understand a little bit about the things that teacher talking about, the lesson would be more fun and I can participate better.

2) I can self-regulate my noise level and my environment.

SUGGESTION:

LINE 1: Correct your spelling - MONITOR COMPREHENSION (Remember, always check what you're reading so you spell it like it is spelled in the assignment. This will ensure you are spelling it correctly) Also, you can use Co-Writer first and then copy and paste it over.

Line 2: Correct your spelling and capitals.
Line 3: Correct your spelling and capitals.
Line 4: Correct your spelling.

SUGGESTION: Do your work in Co-Writer first and then paste it over. This way it will save it to your Google Drive as well so you can save your work. It will also help you with your spelling using the predictive text function.

1. I can improve by being more self-regulate! But how can I be more self-regulate? Firstly, I’ll pay more attention during the class, such as not chatting with my friends. I’m sure I’ll learn more this way. Secondly, I’ll self-regulate my noise level in the class. Because sometimes I don’t realize that I’m using my outside voice in the class. So, I’ll need to always keep in mind to regulate my noise level next time. Thirdly, I’ll self-regulate my emotions and behavior in school. Because oftentimes things can’t go the way you want. Learn to self-regulate is extremely important. If you’re not self-regulating when bad things happened, It is really possible to ruin your day and of course, no one wants that to happen. For me, I’m hoping is to keep myself calm and continue the day. So, I’ve actually had my own ways/strategies for me to self-regulate.

2. I can improve by asking more questions and descriptive feedback! It’s also from the “Big 6 Principals of Learning.”

3. I can improve working cooperatively in groups. It includes communicating and discussing. Sharing my own ideas and opinions.

Colin. I think before you ask questions you should look at the steps on the P.A.R. and obviously the successful criteria. Yes, you do have to brain storm and draw diagrams or web to develop your ideas and you must bring it back school. You are going to post it on Fresh Grade.

How can I improve my performance in school? Performances in school. I can improve my performances in many ways. The great or the most important three things are to monitor comprehension, meet the learning intentions and set a purpose to reach a goal. I think set a purpose and make a goal to reach it is the most important one.

Set a purpose is in Novel Approach. It is about reading or writing. Set a purpose could also be a strategy to improve my performances too.

1) Set a purpose maybe is about your behavior or self-regulation.
2) Set a purpose can be about reaching a goal of learning or score.
3) Set a purpose can be a goal which let you deepen your understanding.

Set a purpose is to let you reach a goal to improve your performances. The learning never stops!!

Performance is very important at school, which will partly decide a student’s future university level. Performance has a strong influence on one’s grades. If a student has good grades, then he/she will have a higher possibility of getting into a better university.

The first way to improve one’s performance is to hold positive thoughts about oneself. It is usual to feel disappointed about oneself when one has bad grades. In this case, one must have positive thoughts and believe one can increase one’s grades. It is negative to feel disappointed since one would think, “ I can’t do this, I’m too dumb” or, “I should just give up”. One has to be optimistic about the situation if one can make it better. To be stubborn and say I can’t improve my grades is unhealthy, one must know one can improve one’s grades, instead of thinking “I’m a disappointment”, but transfer to “I will improve myself.” One should never give up since there are still corrections and perfection.

The second way is that one needs to search the confused source of learning knowledge on the lecture. After one has discovered the origin of the confusion, one must figure out how to solve it. A suggestion is to focus on one’s weak knowledge point in school. Moreover, one can ask one’s teacher to help one with this point. Finally, one can read books to review this point so one can collect more background knowledge.

The last suggestion is to practice notetaking. Notetaking is a great way to improve one’s performance since one can review after class. It may be difficult when one needs to revise the notes. The downside is that one may misunderstand one’s notes, which would lead you to fail your test. To ensure this never happens, one has to ask a friend or read a book on this topic to double check it. Taking notes will be helpful whether one is an adult, teenager, or child.

All in all, the three ways can increase one’s performance, if one can hold positive thoughts, search the source of confusion, and practice notetaking.

I thought of a lot of things but I think that these three will work the best. I want to start making lists at home and start organizing my time better. For example, first, if I have math and reading as homework, I would write that down on a to-do list and check them off when I've done them. Second, I want to start setting an alarm for 12:00 am as well which is when I have to go to sleep because sometimes I would accidentally go over 12:00 and I end up having to wake up at 7:00 the next day exhausted. By the time I post this, it'll probably be twelve.

This will help because you will be up to date with all of you subjects, and you wont stress.

2.) Staying on task during work time
Staying on task you will work more efficiently and be more focused.

3.) Doing the par
Doing the par on a daily basis will help alot with your writing format. Later on when doing write up the practice from the par will help.
