Congratulations to everyone on a successful first week! We have set the expectations for the year and are the learning is in full swing! On Friday, the students had a busy day of learning! They continued learning about the 'LEARNING PROCESS' through the lens of the BIG 6 Learning Principles and their name card assignment and their personal collages. Students will learn to take full ownership of their learning by following learning intentions, co-creating success criteria, asking questions, going through the self/peer assessment process, and responding to timely descriptive feedback to push their learning forward. It is looking to be a fun and exciting year with the students of div 1!

IMPORTANT:
1.) Bring a mobile device (tablet or laptop) on a daily basis to use when needed. We want to avoid sharing school technology as much as humanly possible. Keep in mind, you are 100% responsible for your device. If you are unable to bring one, I will provide one to you.

2.) Collect pictures, drawings, 3D objects, etc for your personal collage and bring them with you ON MONDAY so you can work on it at school on Monday.

LEARNING:
1.) MATH:

You will begin your 'JUMP MATH' lessons this week. Your first lesson will be on 'PLACE VALUE'.

2.) ART:

Name Cards are due on Monday as well as your self-assessment criteria sheet.
Bring materials to use for your personal collage on Monday. Refer to your criteria sheet.

3.) READING:

Daily reading requirement: 30 minutes.

4.) POST A RESPONSE:

Mr. Bains, Mrs. Kidd, and I want to really learn about your personalities.
Write a structured paragraph explaining a little bit more about who you are that we may not yet know about you. For example, maybe you are a classically trained pianist. Explain how long you have been playing and a few details about your experience as a pianist.
LEARNING INTENTION:
SUCCESS CRITERIA:
1.) Use a standard paragraph structure (intro, body w/ supporting sentences, and conclusion)
2.) Make your introductory sentence engaging! Make us want to read your paragraph.
3.) In your body, include at least 3 different things about you that you want to tell your teachers. Also explain a little bit about each of the points you tell us about.
4.) In your conclusion, tie up your paragraph and end your paragraph smoothly.
5.) Do a self-assessment of the givens (spelling, capitals, punctuation, sentence structure, and grammar) before you post your work.
6.) NEW: Read one other person's paragraph and reply to them by giving them ONE suggestion to improve their paragraphs. Your descriptive feedback to them should be specific and related to one of the success criteria points above.

Many people don’t know that I did gymnastics in holland. I did gymnastics for about 2 years. There are a lot of fun people you meet when competing. I mostly liked doing trampoline stuff like flips. My favourited part of training was the foam pit. I had a lot of fun doing gymnastics but had to stop when moving to Canada.

When I was in Hong Kong, I did a lot of swimming. I started swimming when I was about 2 or 3 and joined a teenager group when I was 6, I participated in a lot swimming competitions. During my swimming time, I also did ballet. It was a bit of struggle to balance swimming and ballet because the quantity of ballet classes would change every year as we grew. Ballet was a fun experience as we'd dance around a lot, there were also exams we'd have to do for ballet. Depending on your qualities they'd give a bronze, silver and gold pin. Although, I'd have to say, I enjoyed swimming more. This was because of the thrill that I got from winning. At first, I joined swimming unwillingly, but then I watched my brother as he won competitions and it got me excited too. I have a golden medal from a competition our school held, my brother won 2 golden medals and I won one, I was very happy. In the future, I'd hope to be able to join a swimming class here in Canada too.

I like to play video games to the point where it seems like I might be addicted, but I really am only allowed to play for an hour every day. I also read a lot of books like Divergent, Maze Runner, and The Hunger Games.

Not to be mean, but this paragraph is really short. Also you did not include a beginning or an ending. Plus, you only listed 2 things about yourself when the criteria clearly stated that you needed at least 3. Oh and just like Magnus said, most of us already knew that.

My name is Nathan and I am a student in a certain school (privacy) and here are some things some people might not know about me. I was born and raised in Indonesia for 10 years until I immigrated here. I had a lot of friends that I miss there and I hope that can reconnect with one day. Another thing that some people might not know about me is that I am very competetive. While this fact about me might be more obvious, some people still don't know. The final thing about me that I want you all to know is that I like to sing. If I could be a singer in the future then I will probably consider it. That's all that I want you to know about me and I'll see you on Monday.

More about me paragraph

Hello Mr. Bains, Mrs. Kidd and Mr. Hong. This will be a paragraph on more about me and something like that. I'm 11 years old and as you know I'm grade 7. I'm pretty good at dancing, tkd, stuff with computers and gaming. I have a YouTube channel where I post gameplay of Fortnite highlights. I stream on twitch too and I have an Instagram where I just post short clips of Fortnite clutches or short montages. My favorite thing to do is probably just create highlights for my YouTube. Otherwise from online things, I like basketball, airsoft and snowboarding. I probably like basketball the best because most of my friends like it. I think I'm really nice and really fair so yeah. I live in Vancouver and my sibling is my little brother. An interesting about my little brother is that he’s also ways screams when he dies in a game, he rages a lot and he for some reason always decides to play in my room even though I tell him not too. He’s stubborn a lot and he never shares. Even though I'm good at ballroom dancing, I don’t really like it. I prefer break dancing and like popping. I also don’t like tkd that much either but yeah. I'm a black belt in tkd and I'm a Gold/Pre-Champ in dancing. Anyways that basically all for me so thank you for reading!

Most of you know a lot about me but there are some things that you do not know about me. For example, I used to play tennis because I used to like it. I was enrolled into tennis classes and I stopped playing tennis a few years ago. I stopped playing tennis because I was not really interested in it anymore. I could also be seen in a Netflix movie called Christmas Chronicles. I was able to be in it because my dad worked on the visual effects for the movie. I think this happened about two years ago. So, for those of you who watched the movie, be sure that you rewind to the part where the main character turns on the TV in the north pole and try to find me on the TV. Lastly, I have eaten a snail before. The snail was cooked into a dish called escargot. I ate it on a cruise on the new year of 2019. I also enjoyed eating it even though it sounds disgusting. So those were three things you might have not known about me, and I hope you have learned a thing or two about me.

Did you know? I have an emu egg? I acquired one of the second largest eggs in the world last year, in the summer, when I visited The Kangaroo Farm in Kelowna. We got it as a prize for answering one question. What is the only marsupial that does not originate in Australia? My uncle answered this question correct when he said Opossum. So? We were rewarded a dark blue, emptied emu egg. Another thing you might not know about me, is that I own at least one million Lego pieces. I have three tables that each display a multicolored building with a mess of vehicles and minifigures inside. The fourth table has a display of the Harry Potter Hogwarts Castle. It consists of the Whomping Willow set, the Clocktower set, the Great Hall set, the Hagrid's Hut set and the Expecto Patronum set (and three more Harry Potter sets).Lastly you probably didn't know that I play the Trumpet. I started playing two years ago. I have been learning at the Long and McQuade music store at 368 Terminal Avenue. I have been taking lessons online with my teacher Chris Seddon, since Covid-19 became a problem in BC. I enjoy playing the Trumpet even though it sometimes hurts my mouth to play. I have performed at three recitals. I am pretty sure that most of you did not know these things, and I know that you all learned at least one thing about me. Thanks For Reading!

Hello my name is Kyle. In this paragraph I am going to tell you one fact that you might not know about me. When I was 4 I started doing swimming classes. At first I was pretty scared of swimming because when I started to swim in the deep ends, I would look down to the bottom of the swimming pool and that makes me feel that I am in a very tall place. But after a couple of swimming classes there it kind of got used to it. I think swimming is a awesome sport because you need to move your legs and arms to swim, this can train our legs and arms to be stronger . Swimming is also not only a sport, knowing how to swim is really important too because if you go to the beach and the waves push you father and farther away from the shore. if someone does not know how to swim it would be really dangerous for them, but f you know swimming you can swim really fast and swim to a place where its safe. Right now I am in level 9 at the UBC aquatic center. But if people want to become a lifeguard they will need to do a extra level to become a lifeguard. Thank you for reading!

There are a few more facts about me. I added the most interesting facts I could find! In Preschool I did Ballet because I really like dancing. I stopped in grade 3 and wish I didn't because I really enjoy ballet more than I thought. After I stopped ballet, I changed over to another dance school and now I'm doing Chinese dance. In Grade 1, I tried skiing. I wanted to add this because skiing is one of my favourite sports. I do skiing a lot with my cousin and Uncle so not before long, I learned to parallel ski! I wish I could go skiing this year but because of covid-19 I couldn't go. The last thing about me is that in Grade 1 I moved to Calgary to live with my cousins for a year. I went to a school name Highwood Elementary. It's a Bilingual school and I really miss that school and my friends. At first I hoped to go to the same school as my cousins but they pick students by randomly pulling out names and my name didn't get picked. I'm really glad I went to Highwood Elementary though because I made many friends and my teachers were really nice! These were my extra facts I hope found them interesting!

the first week has been awesome. we had lots of fun and everyone was well behaved science and art have been different and interesting from all other years. This week has also been refreshing since we haven't gone to school in months but it feels good to be back to school after so long. The learning principals have been outstanding from all other learning strategy's I have learned, I could see the difference in my spelling in just e week. Lastly this week has been lots of fun!

Fun Facts about me. (sry for being so late)
1. I played piano for bout 3/4 of my life. I still play the piano and I’m working on my last grade of piano.
2. I have a ton of lego including the Disney castle, Apollo 11 sets, The treehouse, the roller coaster and more. I also have a lot of the friends, and ninjago, Star Wars sets from when i was younger.
3. I do wildlife photography for animals and landscapes and I use these pictures for making montages for my YouTube videos. I would also love to be a wildlife conservationist or humanitarian one day.
4. I love to do debate. Its more of a hobby or mine than a class or club I need to go to. I personally like BP more than any other styles of debate.
5. I am a musical geek in a way. Though I haven’t been to New York I would love to go someday and meanwhile watch the musicals made into movies.
6. I am really into technology and robotics. I and teaching myself python and reviewing javascript. I also know C++ for robots.
And that was my fun facts about myself. Also sorry if it was a little long.

These are some facts about me. Well some of my favorite one's. The first one is in 1st grade i always played soccer and i wanted to be a pro soccer player and soccer was really fun but than i grew out of it. Next is that i taught myself how to play the piano(well a key board) two years ago but i have not practiced in a long time so yea, the way i taught myself it that i had my recorder notes and my music teacher said every seven notes it starts again so that's the logic i went off of. Lastly i won an art contest, my art was put in an calendar to help fundraise for the conservation of burns bog in delta.

Something you might not know about me is that I can shift realities. It’s kind of like lucid dreaming but more realistic. The method I use to shift is the raven method, basically you lay like a starfish on your bed and count down from 100, but first you have to script what you want to shift to, you can script that 1 year in your fake reality is 1 second in real life, i’ve only shifted once for a few hours just to try it but you can be in your fake reality for years and it could be a few second in real life.

Some things people don’t know about me is that I’m in a public swim club called Vikings. So far, I have 6 medals, 12 ribbons, and 1 trophy. I enjoy swimming and one of my favourite thing about Vikings is the people in there. Another thing people don’t know about me is that I am in a basketballs league. I am not very good but I find it fun. I am trying to get better. I can almost slam dunk on the school hoops. The last thing I have to share is that I play the piano. Here are some of the examples you guys may not know about me. Firstly, I am so obsessed with fishing that I am doing it for over 5-6 years! What I like about is that I enjoy the satisfaction when I hook the fish on. Secondly, me and my dad always go to pine mushroom hunting in Squamish, which can be very expensive in markets. I have fun hunting mushrooms in the mountains, but the most enjoyment for me is the time when I eat it. Lastly, I enjoy skiing in the mountains and it is very fun that my heart beat accelerates apart from the extreme exercise. These are some of the examples that you guys might not know about.

These are some things most people don't know about me. First I really love eating chicken hearts because in my opinion it tastes really delicious even if it sounds gross. Another fact about me is that I went swimming with dolphins when I went to Mexico. It was very exciting and I would do it again because dolphins are my favourite animals. Also for one or two weeks I tried to be vegetarian, which is kinda funny since I just said I love chicken hearts but obviously I didn't eat it that week. I did it to help the environment but it was really hard to find other things to replace it with but one of the nights I tried a bean burger and it wasn't that bad. Lastly I have a Brother that is like my best friend because he is very nice, funny and he does things with me like board games or card games. Hi, my names Mika and I was that I was the kid that listened to rock music to fall asleep or that human obsessed with decorating places with plants and whitish wood. Not a lot of people know this mainly because when I was younger, we kept moving around schools and houses. Now, I am going to share 3 facts with you humans about me you may have not known. The first fact is that I like putting videos on low volume. It’s not that I’m hiding something, I just prefer it more. The second fact is that I use to not know what emotions were. Now I’m like talking specifically about when I was 8 when there was this guy that kept on complaining about something that was already in the past and me just feeling this unknown but not clear emotion where I kind of didn’t care but also wanted to just put some headphones on. And lastly, I like drinking Brown Sugar Milk (with pears or boba). I used to drink Bubble Tea every week which is also probably the reason to my height. And that’s not all I want you to know so I hope in the future we can all get to know each other.

Hallo, my name is Isa. And I have so many characteristics. I am a girl who doesn't like being restrained, except for studying. I just want to do whatever I want. Just like making handwork. I can say that I have all the hand tools at home. Of course, I like to painting. I really like to paint the starry sky with pigment. But I ran out of pigment, and now I don’t know where to buy paint during the epidemic. But my favorite thing to do is to watch TV. I like to watch YouTube and TikTok. My favorite subject is math. Because I like more difficult math questions, because in China, these questions are considered to be at the grade three level. I also like to challenge myself, just like making my own slime. Did you know that playing video games can benefit us in many ways? For example, it could enhance our memory and improve our social and problem solving skills, which is why I enjoy playing them during my free time. Though most of you probably already knew that. However, something that you might not know is that I'm obsessed with doing random research and watching random documentaries. Something about it just makes me feel entertained but also feel like I'm learning something. Another thing I enjoy doing is coding. I normally do coding on java, but sometimes I would use Lua too.
