DIGITAL CITIZENSHIP

9/10/2019

Today, we learned about digital citizenship. Students in both divisions gathered together to create 'C-Charts' for online safety and for digital citizenship on our class websites. We learned the importance of protecting our private information and only communicating with people we know personally. It is important we learn how to navigate the internet safely. Parents, please review internet safety with your children and watch the two videos that are posted today.

IMPORTANT: Parents, some forms will be coming home by the end of the week. Please complete them and send them back to the school.

1.) WORD WORK:

Click here to access this week's word work. Feel free to work on this at home if you like. You will have time in class tomorrow to complete it.

2.) MATH:

Most students have completed the 'MATH ASSESSMENT', We will review them tomorrow in class.

3.) POST A RESPONSE:

Today, we built some behavioural C-Charts and had a class discussion on internet safety and privacy.
In paragraph form (introduction, body and supporting sentences/examples, and conclusion), explain at least 3 different points on how to stay safe online.
Give one student suggestions for improvement based on the GIVENS (spelling, capitals, punctuation, grammar, and sentence structure.).
Reply to the comment and edit/revise your paragraph based on the feedback you were given.
Show your parents your work.

Today we learned about staying safe online. Here are 3 things about online/social media safety: (1) Everything that is on the internet will be there forever. So don't post anything personal about yourself online. Even if you delete it, it will still be there (as long as the internet is still up and running). (2) When using social media or Facebook, always use the most secure privacy setting that there is. Then hopefully no one can hack into your account. (3) Never answer/except any calls or texts from anyone that you don't know. It may be someone trying to steal from you and that is bad:(. Only answer it if you know who is calling/texting you. You don't want anyone to know who you are or where you live. It is always important to stay safe online and in the real world. #online safety:)

Staying safe online is very important, so I'll be telling you 3 ways on how to stay safe.
First, don't put your personal information online. Everything you post will stay their forever, so make sure you think before you click! If you post your personal information, everyone can see and you could potentially be harmed. Next, make sure to have a super secure password. Nobody wants to get hacked and that's why good passwords are important. Make sure to have a password that's hard to guess but easy to remember. Finally if someone unknown calls or texts you, don't answer it. Someone may be trying to harm you. Make sure to only answer to people know. Remember staying safe online is important.

The internet is a very complicated place, especially if you don't know what your even doing. During class I learned some useful tips on internet safety. First tip is don't talk to strangers online, even thought they say they know you from school, they probably don't know you in real life and you could put yourself in a danger. Second tip is never post anything personal like addresses, schools, emails, phone numbers and more. My third tip is to never meet someone offline, it's dangerous and you never know they might say their "12 years old" but they might be someone much older than you.

Today in class we learned about the importance of internet safety. this was done with 2 videos one of which was ancient and the other one was lowish quality. Despite that they were still informative videos. some ways you can protect yourself on the internet is to cut off communications to people you do not know personally. On Instagram set your location to somewhere in Russia and only post pictures of very small cans and your cat. Another very good way to prevent kidnappings is to not use your real name and especially your last name. and to top it all off use a difficult password that isnt 12345. this should reduce the likelihood of being kidnapped robbed or hacked

@ Kyungsun, while reading your paragraph i noticed that in your second sentence you for got to capitalize the first letter, a suggestion I have for one of your sentences is and i quote "2 videos one of which was ancient and the other one was lowish quality". instead of saying " the other one was lowish quality" you could say "the other video was not very good in quality compared to videos I generally watch". Anyways that was just a few mistakes I wanted to point out. In general I think you wrote a very good paragraph, maybe just write in a little more formal way. :)

Today we learned about how to stay safe online here are three tips on how to stay safe online
1. Don’t click on pop ups or give out your credit card information to anything your not sure of because they could take your information and use it to their advantage
2.Don’t give out any personal information in your bio (ex your full name phone number school or anyone you know)
3.Don’t respond to unknown people because they could take advantage of you by trying to sell something to you or cyber bullying you

The internet can be dangerous some times so here’s three tips to stay safe. First, think very carefully before you post anything on the internet like your name, age school etc because it will stay on the internet forever (even if you delete it). Second, keep your social media accounts private and don’t accept strangers as your friend because they will know a lot of information about you like your friends, where you live, what school you go to, and what you look like etc. Also don’t write too much information about you on your profile or else a stranger just might know too much about you. Third, don’t answer a call from a stranger you don’t know and don’t ever talk or meet up with a person that you don’t know. That is very dangerous cause there’s a slight chance that you might get kidnapped. Follow these tips so you will have less of a chance to meet a creepy person online. These are all my tips and I hope you can stay safe online.

However when you wrote "Third, don’t answer a call from a stranger you don’t know" I would just like to say that the "you don't know" is unnecessary be a stranger is a person you don't know. Don't answer a call from a stranger would be sufficient. VERY minor problem, but I just wanted to point it out. Good job!

Today we were taught the dangers of the internet and how to we can prevent hackers and other people from getting a hold of our information.

Some points you'll need to stay safe on the internet is to lock all of your social media accounts and DO NOT post any personal information on any social media account. When ever making new accounts on any platforms try to make the most secure password you can think of ( just make sure you don't for get it). My last point on staying safe on the internet is to back up your computer on to a hard drive and check for viruses on your computer every now and again.

In conclusion, the internet can be a wonderful and magical place but it can also be a very dangerous tool for others to use against you.

Second DO NOT answer phone calls on your phone if you don`t know them. Third is that whatever you post online, it will be there forever( which is related to the first one kind of ).

At the end of the school day we watched a few videos about dangerous things that can happen on the internet. The first thing that you should know is that should not put personal information on any of your social media accounts because there are millions of people that could just easily find things about you like, what school you go to and where you live. You also have to make sure that you're account is private. If you have that kind of information, take it down right away. Another thing you should know about is to make your password difficult to guess so people cannot hack you which nobody wants. Finally the last tip is to not answer any calls or messages from strangers because there is chance you could get kidnapped or robbed. Instead only answer calls or text messages from the people in your contacts.

Although we all love the internet, you could possibly be harmed and you can't blame anybody but yourself.

OH NO THERE IS DANGER!!!!!
being safe online is just as important as being safe in real life. If you dont follow certain guidelines on social medi, there is a chance you could rly get hurt.

Here are some tips on how to stay safe on social media. Number one, if you have Instagram, Facebook, Twitter etc then don't put any personal information I'm your bio. Including school, address, phone number, email ect.

Number two. Do not communicate with people you dont know! Someone that you ment online could claim that they are a 13 year old boy who loves, soccer and baseball. When in reality they could be a 43 year old Male stalker. If you where to tell them your school, where u like etc then they would be able to hurt you or blackmail you whenever they would like to.

Number three. Make your account private so you can manage who follows you. Do not let anyone you dont know in person follow you.

These were my 3 tips to help you stay safe online. Hope that at least one person learned something new!

Today in class, we learned about online safety. Being safe online is very important to our private matters and personal information.

1. We should be careful when posting pictures of your life. Some people might use it for bad intentions.

2. Do not post personal information like; your address, school or first and last name (depending on the platform). There are all kinds of strangers all over the internet and not all of them are friendly or safe to interact with.

3. Be careful of who you accept when you recieve friend or follow requests. Not all people you bring into your life are safe.

The internet is a dangerous part of today's society, and we should always be safe while using it.
Here are three useful tips to browse the internet safely:

1) Firstly, don't share personal information that you don't want to be visible to the entirety of the public. Leaking personal information increases the chance of getting hacked, stalked, etc.

2) Do not answer unknown phone numbers and text messages. If you end up in that situation, block the number/account immediately and talk to a trusted adult about it. If you receive a voice call asking for private information, simply ignore the message and block the number as well.

3) Lastly, lock your account at all times so it is only visible to people you allow to view your account. This means to never allow an unknown account to access your images, even if it seems like someone who would be trustworthy.

The internet can be a scary place at times, which is why you should always stay safe!

The internet can be a dangerous thing. So I’m going to tell you three ways to be safe online:

(1) Do not put any personal information online because it will stay there. Remember “think before you click.(2) Do not talk to anyone you don’t know. For example, someone could ask you personal questions and stalk you. (3) Make your password difficult so no one can hack you ( make sure you remember it). Make it hard for hackers to get in.

The internet is a very deep and mysterious place. While it can have multiple benefits like better communication and entertainment, it can also have disadvantages. For example, how the internet is a dangerous place.

Before today's lesson, I haven't thought much about my digital dossier, I always knew it was there, but I never paid much attention to it. Today, I learned a few new things. First off, my digital dossier probably knows more about me than I know myself. Secondly, I should start paying more attention to my actions on the internet. Someways, I can do that is:

1. Turn all my accounts to private. It's good to know who will be viewing my profile, I shouldn't let strangers follow me.

2. Don't post anything personal, including phone numbers, emails, addresses, and age. Posting personal information can lead to people with bad intentions.

3. Lastly, only communicate with people you know. I remember when my parents told me to stay away from strangers offering my ice cream. Answering strangers is like accepting the ice-cream. You never know what their true intentions are so its best to stay away from them.

In conclusion, the internet has many advantages, but it's still very dangerous. Remember to be careful with your actions online!

Today, I learned how to be safe online and offline in the world of technology and social media, I don't use my social media as much as most of my classmates. The reason I don't use it often is because of the online safety courses I have seen all over the internet on how to protect yourself from people who will profit from what they learn about you in a productive and inappropriate form, theses people steal what information they can about you and sell it to other important/major corporations or clients. The way people tend to give this information is also well known by almost every single soul on Earth.

A few helpful and Must Know Tip and tricks for internet security!

If at any time on any day someone attempts to take advantage of your social media information that is publicly available to look at and find out everything about you in just meer minutes, its true people that have the right profession and right timing you will not know that your info was stolen and was leaked to multiple organizations and clients of this anonymous tracker, until later than months and that data may never be recoverable.
An easy way to counter this would be removing that publicly viewable info and not even mentioning anything about your age, where you live, your loved ones, and not even your last name, because if that someone finds all or some of this, it will be profit time for them and worried time for you. For example, if I have a secret kind of key that illustrates where I live and the school I go to, my key is SWL E someone out there could find this info by looking at the schools Instagram and find the same username you have and read at that is one there. Once they find what they need they will sell it and whoever buys it will somehow contact you, whether it's a phone call or and text message or email, and once you have confirmed you don't know this person delete them and report them immediately.

When you by some chance find out you have been hacked, the first thing that should come to mind would presumably change your password so your accounts on any device will be signed out and when they attempt to find out what the password is, a notification will be sent to you whom that has already logged in and will know exactly what device tried to login and call the police to report this incident. If that does not work by some chance you must take into consideration that your account has been completely compromised by hackers, and you need to activate the kill code to your account and delete it as soon as possible. Once this has been solved create and new account with a new password and new username so you can't be tracked again.

When you are doing your daily or weekly email check and you come across a huge organization sent email, that is about your account or some other type of personal data and has a link hanging around,that is supposed to direct you to the website of theirs, check the link if it is trustworthy as in you have been on that exact website before and had no issues on it. For example, I am sent an email from Apple stating that someone attempted to use your credit card to buy a list of expensive and unnecessary items for your age. first, if you haven't been checked check if your credit card advisor asked you if you tried to buy such an unnecessary amount of items. If you are sure that someone tried to hack and use your credit card lock that card, create a new incognito tab and then enter the web address and follow the policy or instruction they have for you. If it is the other way around you did spend some money on apple.com check what address it shows when hovering your cursor over the link it will instantly tell you where it will take you, if the website does not say exactly Apple.com then it is fraud, once you open that site they will immediately know everything you have done in the past few months. But if you do avoid it and realized it is a trick, call the authorities or report it to google or whatever website browser you may use.

In conclusion, I think being safe in the real world is just the same as being safe online, and the online world is huge so look out for scams and fraud, if anyone reading this has not yet removed private info on their social media accounts please do so now!

Sometime people go on the internet and go like, oh yeah this is 100% safe so i'm going to do random stuff! Actually it's like 100% not safe, so i'm going to tell you 3 tips to stay safe online.Number one: Don't post personal information online! First you don't want people to see and invade your privacy, and second it's not safe for you because you can get spammed. You might go like oh whatever i don't care i'm just going to post all my private information about myself because I could delete it anyway. Well this is where i'm going to talk about your digital footprint. I digital footprint is your tracks you leave behind online. It's like your footprints in the physical world but never disappears. So after you post it's there forever, even if you delete it. Number two: don't use a easy a simple password.(password123456) The result in that is getting hacked, so use a hard and long password. But if you ever do get hacked, to clear all the virus in your device a change your password(s). And the last tip is: Do not ever never talk to strangers. The reason to that is you never know what they want to do to you, stalk you, hack you or even kill you. So it's best just to block strangers and don't talk to them. I hope everybody will do as said so they will stay safe, and always remember these three points.

Sharing personal information such as name, age, and school, can also cause MAJOR problems, such as getting hacked or stalked. Imagine some random creep stumbling upon your social media account. From reading your bio they can tell that you are 11-13 years old, go to Sir Wilfred Laurier Elementary School, and that you are born between either January or February. Do you feel okay with that? If you don’t here are some tips to help fix that.

1. DO NOT PUT PERSONAL INFORMATION IN YOUR BIO! I know a number of people who put personal information in their Instagram bios, and that information is available for the world to see. Even if you put something like the initials of your school, your grade, or even your zodiac sign. That’s all personal information that the public doesn’t need to know. Remember, even though your account is private, your bio isn’t. That ties into my second point.
2. MAKE SURE YOUR ACCOUNT(s) IS ALWAYS SET ON PRIVATE! You don’t want that creep to see all of your posts. Only accept friend/follow requests from people that you know. As in you’ve met them in real life.
3. USE YOUR COMMON SENSE! Don’t do anything dumb. Did you know that your future employers go through your digital dossier and look at your social media accounts? If they find something that is inappropriate they definitely won’t hire you. So make the right choice, your future self will thank you.

In conclusion my three tips to help you stay safe online are:
- don’t put personal information in your bio
- make sure you set your account(s) to private
- use your common sense

Online safety is hard to understand sometimes but some ways to stay safe are, making all accounts as private as they can be. Check your accounts privacy settings and check your privacy. If it’s public or not on private you should definitely turn it on private. Another way to stay safe is not revealing personal information. If you happen to reveal any sort of personal information,(address, phone number etc.) then you have the risk of being contacted by somebody who’s most likely dangerous or trying to kidnap you. This also could be dangerous because if you tell them your parents name and your best friends, they could easily text you and say: “ hey kaelyn, I’m a work friends of your mom. Your friends with so and so right?” Then your in trouble. One last way to keep yourself safe online is when you post a picture or you send a message, it really doesn’t matter if you delete it or not, it’s still out there somewhere. Everything you say or do will always be there. If you delete a post from 20 years ago that was a bad mistake or makes you look silly, it’s still out there somewhere.

If you don't want people to see your personal information or get hacked then here are three ways on how to stay safe on the internet.

First, don't put your schools name or your personal information on your social media account. If you do then they can just search SWL and find what school you are going to and find out information`s about you.

Second, don't have a simple password instead, have a strong password so you won`t get hacked.

Third, add people that you only know in any social media accounts just in case if they wanted to see you personal information.
So if you added a random person unfriend them.
