Today, we started the day off by reviewing action criteria charts for walking in the halls and behaviour during lessons. As expected, Ms. Chung informed me that Division 2 was very self-regulated during music class. I was very pleased to hear this. Keep up the great work! Later, students worked on their collages and then had their first 'EARTHBITES' session. They prepared the garden for some new plants, preserved some vegetables, and learned some indigenous uses for some of the plants. In the afternoon, they started learning about the Inquiry process.

IMPORTANT: Students, please pay your $30 for your school hoodies online through our school site.

1.) MATH: No HW.

2.) LA/READING: least Complete visible thinking and graphic organizer handouts.

3.) WORD WORK: least Complete word analysis and prepare for Friday's quiz.

4.) POST A RESPONSE:

Choose 8 words from this week's Word Work and write an interesting story.
SUCCESS CRITERIA: (READ CAREFULLY BEFORE BEGINNING)

- The story must be contain at least 8 of the vocabulary words.
- The words must be used correctly and make sense.
- Your story must have an intro, body, and conclusion.
- Givens: Spelling, capitals, grammar, sentence structure, etc.
- It must be posted on Mr. Fisher's class website today! Mr. Fisher's students will post here.
- Once division 1 students have posted here, you must give at least one student one suggestion based on the above criteria.
- edit/revise your original post based on the feedback you receive or a self-assessment on Mr.
Fisher's class website.

Hi people this is my story!

I was walking to Ernest ice cream and then I was thinking did Eratosthenes invent ice cream? But then I remembered Eratosthenes invented the sieve, which is made to work with numbers.
When i got my ice cream i was getting to excited so I had to
self- regulate.
The next day I was at school, we were doing math and we were talking about product, composite numbers, multiples, factors and prime numbers.
Later on we were marking our math homework and then the teacher said who made this mistake, and i had to take ownership for my mistake and say "i did"

@ Mireya - Thank you for your post! In your last sentence, I believe the correct grammar would be ....and say, "I did!". Don't forget to put a comma after 'SAY' and to capitalize the first word in the quotations as well as including the punctuation inside the quotations.

One day when I was walking to school, I encountered a portal. I first thought I was seeing things so I pinched myself. But the problem was that it was really there. It had a statue of Eratosthenes and had the words written in bright blue colour, "MATHLAND". I was shocked. I was going to walk around it when suddenly, It sucked me into it.

I woke up in a perfectly normal place; the exact place I was standing. But something was wrong. I realized everyone in here was a number! There were 1's and 2's and prime numbers and composite numbers, numbers which have many factors, and everything! I was curious. I walked into the school to Mr. Fisher's classroom and I nearly passed out. "Mr. Fisher" was reading a book, "The total paper πgers" to the class. Everyone was a number. Suddenly someone shouted, "There is a live human at the door, Mr. Fish1!". Mr.Fish1 then gave the person (I mean number) descriptive feedback to not disturb the class with random nonsense because humans can't be alive (I mean at least in Mathland, they aren't alive) I checked Mr. Hong's class. It was the same. "The learning intention is I can use Eratosthenes' sieve to find all the prime humans between Bob and Sam. The success criteria is..." I ran as fast as I can away. I heard some person ask, "is the quotient of Jeff and Jeff a Bob?" Yes, all numbers were humans back on earth and all the humans were numbers. Everything was upside down. I ran and I rand until my legs turned to rubber and I sluggishly walked to the portal one step at a time, one step at a time...

I once again woke up at the spot I was standing but with sweat soaking my shoes, I knew it actually happened. Everything was normal again, and I even walked up to Mr. Fisher to ask if his name was Mr. Fisher. I don't ever want to go to Mathland for a very long time.

One day at school we were doing math and we were all self-regulating during the math lesson. Our teachers was teaching us prime numbers and composite numbers. The composite numbers and the prime numbers are really hard to do. While doing that I used one of the principles called ownership. We also were learning about multiple of factors it was kinda fun but hard, and our teacher was holding out the success criteria and said add lots of detail too your answers.

@ Stephen - Thanks for your post! To see if you have reached success, you should do a self-assessment to see if you met the criteria! :-)

I would do your best to make sure your sentences and ideas connect smoothly with transition words. I suggest that you change your first sentence to this - One day, we were all minding our own business self-regulating when the teacher started teaching a lesson on prime and composite numbers!

Then we moved onto factors, multiples, quotient and other multiplication and division related stuff. Then he started to explain prime numbers and composite numbers, but I didn’t understand how to find prime numbers. Then the teacher told me about a sieve that a man named “Eratosthenes” made. The teacher explained to me that it wasn’t just any ordinary sieve, but it was used for finding all the prime numbers up to any given limit. He showed me how the sieve worked. And from then I knew how to find prime numbers easily.

@ Hem - Thanks for your thoughtful post. One thing that Mr. Fisher and I did not make clear on tonight's PAR is that your use of words should clearly show what the words mean. I can tell you likely understand the meanings of the math terms, but it would be great if you could make separate sentences for multiples, quotient, divisor, and dividend. :) I hope this descriptive feedback helps you improve your writing today!

Once I was stuck on doing my math homework. It included multiples and factors. So I ask my teacher (mr fisher) for help. He taught me a strategy Eratosthenes?? *hard to spell his name*. I learned what dividend is. We had a spelling pre test and I was trying my best to self-regulate my self and not talk. I asked my friend who was sitting right next to me for some descriptive feed back on how I did. I take ownership for my mark. We talked about prime numbers and composite numbers later in math period. We did novel studies at the end of the day and it reminded me about the big 6 principles of learning. I learned some success criteria and we did a peer assessment. I learned about a learning intention too.

Today I went to school with my friend Angela. We went to class together and were learning about composite and prime numbers. While doing that I used 1-2 principles called ownership! It was super hard for me but my teacher was always there to support me. She would always give us descriptive feedbacks when we need them. My teacher was super happy for me because she liked the way how I was self-regulating during the lesson. We would always have to follow the success criteria during class. We also learned about this man and his name is Eratosthenese. It was a unique and interesting name. I've never heard of it before.

One day after I got home from school I was bored. Then I almost forgot I had math homework so I jumped to it. It was math homework, the math we were learning about was the math of Eratosthenes. It had to do with prime numbers and finding the multiples of them. After I finished that I went to bed. The next day I was a bit excited coming to school so I had to self regulate. During the language arts lesson I made a mistake and took ownership for it. Thankfully I got some descriptive feedback from Mr. Fisher. While in math that day I put two dividends together to form a product. Then school ended again and I traveled home.

Does anyone know what the sieve of Eratosthenes is? The Teacher spoke out.

All of a sudden everyone started shouting out their thoughts. “Isn’t a sieve something you use to strain your spaghetti?!” “air-a-toss-the-knees?!”.
“Remember the success criteria for during a lesson!” Someone exclaimed in an usher to remind everyone to self-regulate.
“The sieve of Eratosthenes is a simple way to find all multiples and prime numbers up to any given limit.” explained the teacher. A number is prime if it has exactly two positive whole number divisors, one and itself. A number that is not a prime number is called a composite number. Composite numbers can be dividend up into smaller whole numbers called factors.

It was a long day at school and I was ready to head home. We just learned what a factor is and how we can identify one. I wanted to be done with math but right when I get home my mom gives me a book that says: Math homework. I didn’t want to do it but my mom told me to so I did the homework. I was already very tired I really had to self-regulate to focus. While doing the homework there where a lot of things I didn’t know (*disclaimer I already know this stuff*) there where many words and questions I didn’t know like: what is the product of 6*3?, what are the common multiples of 12? Show your work, what are all the prime numbers to 1000? And what’s a composite number? I had to get a peer assessment from my brother to help me finish the homework. Even after that I was still half way through. But I had to take ownership and finish the homework. And 7hours later it’s 10pm I’m very tired but I still had one question left and this was the question: what did Eratosthenes discover about math? I didn’t know who or what this thing or human was so I just randomly answered that he found out how to separate prime numbers from other numbers. Finally I was done it’s 11pm and I was ready to sleep.

Today i entered school to not see Mr.Fisher teaching the class, but to see Eratosthenes, (air-a-toss-the-knees) i was very confused due to the fact that i was almost 100% he had passed a long time ago, but just shrugged it off and thought he was just a substitute that looked like him, and Mr.Fisher was just sick.

I was wrong, very wrong, it was the real Eratosthenes, you wanna know how i found out? Because around 80% of the day was math, well besides lunch and recess, you cant get rid of that, we learned some complex prime numbers and composite number jazz, and the 'prime numbers can only be divined by itself and 1, or in other words the only factors of a prime number are 1 and itself,' along with saying certain multiples of numbers all weren't prime numbers, like all multiples of 5 and 2 can not be prime numbers.

But what really confused me is that i wasn't used to no one telling me to self regulate, it threw me off from the Mr.Fisher that i knew. And what really sucked, is we weren't given success criteria.

I was about to give Mr. Fisher a huge high-five when I noticed that the person hovering over me wasn't Mr. Fisher at all! It was a very tall man that looked as if he had a bad hair day. His hair was messy and was all over his face "Hello, my name is Mr. Hanks!" he said in an excited tone. He then started galloping around the classroom. There were only a couple people in their seats.
When everyone got there, Mr. Hanks chose me to read the c-chart for entering the classroom. Just GREAT! "Okay, um... So students should self-regulate their volume and environment, choose a quiet activity like working on our prime number sheet that we got yesterday," it felt as if it just went on and on... When I was finally finished I practically ran back to my seat. "Okay, now we are going to be learning about the Sieve of Eratosthenes (air-a-toss-the-knees)," Mr. Hanks exclaimed. "We learned about that like last week," we all exclaim. "I don't care. The Sieve of Eratosthenes is a very important part about learning your prime numbers. Besides, what else would we learn?" says Mr. Hanks. "Quotients, composite numbers, factors, dividends, divisors, products-" Lily starts to say... "Okay, I'm down with that, lets start with composite numbers. A composite number is when that number has at least two multiples. Other then itself and one-" Mr Hanks starts to say but,before we even start to learn about something else, I wake up and find out that Mr. Fisher is teaching everyone about composite numbers. It was just a dream.

Today we learned about the sieve of Eratosthenes. The sieve of Eratosthenes is when you sieve out all the composite numbers and you have the prime numbers. You find them by going though the multiples and factors. You can find the numbers through the dividend and divisors.

this is my story down below!

I am so excited about today because I am going to the PNE with a couple of my friends! but first i had to get ready.I was about to ask my mom what i needed in my bag and she had that face that made me know shes mad, her face looked like a tomato! any way she asked me, "Ella is it true you didn't take the garbage out?" I took ownership, "yes mom I didn't take out the trash" Anyways mom said even though it was the PNE i had to have at least have one learning intention and she gave me descriptive feedback on how to be safe while i was alone with my friends at the PNE. So now it was the next day and i had so much fun!!! but after one of the roller coasters I got super excited so I had to self regulate a little bit, and now i'm at school and we are learning about eratosthenes!

In math class we learn who is Eratosthenes and use his own way to find out the prime number under 100. I think it was clever of him to come up with such a method. I also learn what is composite number and what is multiple . Mr. Fisher also teach us how to remember Eratosthenes. Now I know a new way to find out the prime number and some numbers has many factor. In class we did a peer assessment and I got some descriptive feedback from my friend. I need self regulate when I was study , if I don’t self regulate I can’t learn very well. When I was study I need concentrate on learning, I can’t thinking about playing game when I was studying.

I was in the library and my knees were itching so wanted to throw them away but I realized they were attached to my legs, suddenly I thought of Eratosthenes because his name sounds like air, a, toss, the, knees. He made the strategy of splitting up prime numbers and composite numbers infinitely, and I thought about something that wouldn't come across my mind that often. OWNERSHIP! I realized I just owned my learning! I was really happy but I didn't want to scream because I was in a library so I had to self regulate. My purpose in the library was to borrow math related books so I could improve my learning. I borrowed a math textbook and did many of the questions. I did questions that included finding the product of two factors and finding the quotient of two dividends. After a few hours of hard work I went home, but then Eratosthenes was standing in front of my door healthy and alive.... (plot twist :))

One day in a not so far away school named Elementary Laurier Wilfrid Sir, students were working hard TRYING to complete their math work, although they didn't understand anything they were learning about, like prime and composite numbers, factors, multiples, dividends and even calculating products! Somewhere very far in the distance, the guardian angel from the washroom heard the student's problems and came to help. The angel taught them everything and gave descriptive feedback to everyone. When the teacher came in and saw everyone working quietly on their work, he was happy to see they were all taking ownership of their learning!

When he looked at the paper, they were all multiple choices about factors, prime numbers and composite numbers but there were a lot of pages. All his classmates were saying that was easy and the classroom became very noisy. "Class, self-regulate." said Mr. Jerry, Tom's math teacher. Then, they started doing it. The questions were all same principles but they still couldn't finish it because there were so many pages. They still finished most of the pages. The next day Mr. Jerry gave back the quizzes to the class. He had finished marking. When the class looked at their quizzes, they were all shock and couldn't even say a word. Finally, a student asked "Why did all of us got 0 mark and also why didn't you give us some descriptive feedback?" " That was a good question but did you guys look at the success criteria on the last page? You all did bad this time." Mr. Jerry said. The success criteria was said "do the first page only". "Oh my God!!" Tom and his friends said. "This quiz was testing whether you see the criteria. It showed that you guys didn't do that. Next time you should look at the criteria first." After that time, they all remembered to do that.

One day when I went to school, the class had to make up our own questions for a math test that we could do but it had to include something to do with these things: factors, multiples, prime numbers, composite numbers, dividends, products, quotients, and divisors. There was a bonus it was to talk about Eratosthenes. A couple students talked about Eratosthenes and his sieve which helped separate all numbers from prime numbers. Everybody followed the big 6 principles to become successful. All students had to follow success criteria in order to do well. Some students had peer assessments and got descriptive feedback from their peers. After everyone finished writing the test most people were successful because they followed the big 6 principles.

This is the story I wrote using 8 of the volcabulary words from word work:

"Eratosthenes created the sieve." Mr. Fisher said. I was in math class and we had just learned what a sieve was. It's basically a type of math component that sorts out the prime numbers from composite numbers. Honestly I thought it was pretty cool! It can be hard to do math sometimes but with this, it would be easier! We continued on to do the worksheet to create a sieve, but I suddenly had an urge to tell my friend about something. Then I remembered the success criteria of doing group work. We had to stay on topic and talk only about the project we were doing. The principles of learning kept me from talking too so I self-regulated. Instead I asked for descriptive feedback from her on whether it looked right and if it mad sense. The learning intention of this is to sort out prime and composite numbers and understand how to effectively make a sieve!

The Story Of The Learning Heroines

“Ahhhhhhhh!” I heard coming down from the hallway of my school. I jumped, and water splashed all over me. I was in the washroom washing my hands, and I couldn’t help but wonder what was happening. So, as my curiosity got the better of me, I ventured out of the bathroom and what I saw down the hall made my jaw drop to my toes. My best friend, Katrina, had been sucked into a door that had appeared out of nowhere. I crept to get a closer view of the very peculiar door. I tried to look into it, but it was very obscure. I looked around for any teachers or somebody, but there was no one. So I used my knowledge of learning principles so I could deal with this dilemma the best way possible.

I single-handedly made a C-Chart on my pocket notebook that included the following: a learning intention (to save Katrina from wherever she is and come back safely with her and I unwounded), a success criteria (focus on what you are there for, be careful, don’t get distracted by ostentatious attractions), peer assessment (I asked the fish in my class fishbowl and they swam away, I guess that counts?), descriptive feedback (I asked myself what risks might there be and the only risk is not being able to find Katrina), and last but not least, ownership (I will be determined no matter what and take ownership of this responsibility).
I was super pumped for this adventure. You see, no one knows this, but I will let you in on my secret. I am the Ownership Heroine, and I have magic powers that allow me to help others gain and take ownership for what they have done. I have helped people avoid lying, cheating on tests, and not holding themselves and others accountable. A little mission to save my best friend won’t hurt. Right? I thought to myself.

Because I was busy conversing with myself, I didn’t realize that the door was opening up and illuminating. When I woke up from my daydreaming, the door disclosed a short silhouette that looked like it belonged to a girl my age. The girl stepped out and I couldn’t believe my eyes when I saw Katrina standing right in front of me. “Oh, you are safe!” I exclaimed. “Yes, I’m more than safe” she replied. “I also saved other people.”

Surprisingly, she was also a superhero with special powers. Katrina had gone to different houses to help students understand math. She taught them multiples, factors, divisors, anything math, you name it. She also invented a sieve for prime numbers, just like her idol, Eratosthenes. When she told me all this, I told her that I was also a superhero. When she asked,” What’s your magic?”, I just laughed and said,” We’ll save that for another story.”

We had a joint lesson with Mr. Hong's class about ERATOSTHENES and it was the last period of the week so everyone was anxious to get out of the school. When the bell rang, everyone ran out of the classroom. All of a sudden the ground began to shake and the halls became wider and began to turn making new paths. Everyone started to scatter so we formed groups to stick together. I looked around and I didn't see Mr. Hong, Mr. Fisher, or any other students from different classes. The shaking stopped and all of Mr. Hong's and Mr. Fisher's students clumped up together. We looked around and the school was like a labyrinth. We waited for about 30 minutes but there was no sign of Mr. Hong or Mr. Fisher. We all started to worry and got scared when Mr. Fisher's and Mr. Hong's voice came out of no where saying "SELF-REGULATE Division 1 and 2." We all became quiet and tried to listen for instructions or figure out where our teachers were. All of a sudden a strong gust of wind came in and pieces of paper flew into our faces as the wind stopped. We decided to read them since they were written in Mr. Fisher's and Mr. Hong's handwriting. It told us to try to find our way out by solving the math problems that we learnt today. There were a lot of groans and protests but everyone decided to go along with it. We eventually found our first question that was on a big bronze door which was "How do you find COMPOSITE NUMBERS and PRIME NUMBERS?" We all knew the answer right away since at that time we were all listening. "By using Eratosthenes's strategy." We answered so we were able to leave.We walked a few more narrow passageways and we ended up at a silver door which said "What are FACTORS and MULTIPLES?" We thought what the answer was and after a few minutes someone just yelled the answer out of no where and we were able to move along. We got lost a few times trying to find out where to go and we found the gold door which said a final question. On the door the question was 'What is a DIVIDEND and a DIVISOR?" We were all to anxious to get outside at that time so we didn't know the answer. After about 30 minutes the door changed its question to "What do all these problems have in common?" We knew the answer immediately so we answered the question and we were finally out! After a few seconds everyone forgot about what happened but we became patient and followed the success criteria at all times.

As i was wandering around i suddenly remembered what Mr.Fishers taught us, how to filter prime numbers from composite numbers. This method was made by a guy named Eratosthenes -Air-A-Toss-The-Knees-.
I started the remember many other things that Mr.Fisher Taught us, to self regulate, develop success criteria, figure out learning intentions
,and to take ownership. So many pieces of information surged at me at once, it overwhelmed me. The multiple pieces information came in and came out of my brain weirdly. It was like a tidal wave of information. I looked up and realized that Mr.Fisher was teaching, but i just had forgot everything he just said.

Yesterday, Mr. Hong gave us an assessment sheet to see what we remembered from last year, math. On the assessment there were various questions on various topics for instance there were factor and multiple Questions those seemed quite easy due to my last year’s knowledge of math, and in addition to this at the very end they were multiple conversations number and prime number questions most of which were about sorting which numbers were a prime number and which ones were Kompa questions those seemed quite easy due to my last year‘s knowledge of math, and in addition to this at the very end there are multiple composition number and prime number questions most of which were about sorting which numbers were a prime number and which ones were composite.

But soon after I realized I did not look and follow the learning intention which was “I can refer back to last year‘s math and be able to show my learning.” And I didn’t refer back to the success criteria for the assessment, and if it wasn’t for my classmates and friends quick reactions and descriptive feedback I would never fully complete the assessment.

And after that day I would follow the learning intentions, take into account the success criteria, respond and give descriptive feedback to classmates, and when doing all of these I am taking ownership in my learning.

Today I joined this math class and at the start they gave me this math test they said to stop whenever I don't understand it . they have a lot of math problems like name the of factors of 25, multiples of 5, prime numbers and composite numbers and finding the product and things I don't understand. I asked a question during the test since I didn't know what this word meant and they helped me. During the test I self-regulated myself and I think the learning intention for this test was so they can know what my levels math is and what level to place me in.
